2296 CBO Combined Individual Statistics

In addition to each league having its awards, there will be CBO awards selected by me since I don't think OOTP does much with associations. Here are the individual leaders regardless of league:

Batting

Pitching

18 August 2296 - Rumors Galore Out of Brotherhood League

Teams have not made the full switch to the offseason, yet rumors are swirling around the Brotherhood League for teams looking to make changes.

The Brotherhood League was one of the more competitive leagues in the entire Commonwealth Baseball Organization. Last place County Crossing finished 12 games back of league winner Finch Farm. That was the closest of all last place teams. Even going into the final weekend of the season, four of the six teams had legitimate playoff shots.

Perhaps the competitiveness in the Brotherhood League made it the best league overall and that is why the teams there are not waiting to announce their intentions, even if they have yet to hire a full front office or coaching staff for their clubs.

Here is what we have heard:

The Bloodbugs blame their lack of victories entirely on their lack of offense, noting that outfielders Mushy Levy and Tom Mastodon were the only two players to consistently produce. They are looking to move a pitcher for a goo bat, but they also said that they would not consider dealing Front Porch Potter unless a bat they could not resist was offered.

On the flip side of that equation, The Slog may be in the playoffs, but they feel their pitching did not help them and may lead to an early exit in the playoffs. Apparently manage Mack O'Shea is often upset at pitching performances. We're not sure who would be on the trade block should they lose out in the playoffs, but Po Greenzone, Millioncap Go, Lernz Tentsleep, and C.T. Woodard were their most effective producers on offense. Players like Boots Yellowhair and Stoop Bugwing were productive, too, meaning the Ghouls can be in a good position to improve their pitching while not hurting their top-ranked BL offense.

Nordhagen Beach has had the worst luck with pitching, especially when pitching with late leads. The Party Boys led the CBO in blown saves with 12. They converted only 10 saves on the season, which is the lowest in the CBO. One would think they would move anyone to get a true closer. Six different pitchers had at least one blown save. Sia Abber had the most saves (5) and the most blown saves (4). Ray Human, who was traded to Quincy, was the most successful, earning three saves in three opportunities. That trade was a head-scratcher since Human, who wished to be a starting pitcher, was probably the best closer the Party Boys could have.

The final rumor involves Salem and shortstop Sean Koester. We are not sure why, but there are rumors that his defensive production was the reason despite his good offensive numbers. The 7th-round pick was second in the Brotherhood League in total errors behind Nordhagen Beach third baseman Tommy Talkington. Koester also made some critical errors that could have led to a few more late-season victories for the Witch Hats. The Witch Hats lost to The Slog in a playoff play-in game. Koester did not make an error in that game, but some of those other victories would have meant no end-of-season tie.

2296 Playoffs - Quarterfinals - Game 1

Changing the schedule may help my pitching, but it has thrown all OOTP news stories off. I have no choice but to edit them or turn them off. Sorry if I overlook anything. I am multitasking!

I also decided to add the boxscores instead of just the stories. No full linescores just yet. The nest post will be more organized.

20 August 2296 - Warwick Escapes in The Slog

The Warwick Mirelurks took a 1-0 series lead, downing the The Slog Ghouls on the road at Tarberry Field Forever by a score of 8-7. Mirelurks center fielder Warwick Homestead went 5-5 with 2 doubles and 3 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3.

In the top of the first, with the game still scoreless, Homestead hit a run-scoring double to put his team in the lead.

"Huge," Homestead said. "Getting a win in the first playoff game is huge."

The next game is scheduled for tomorrow in The Slog. Slated to start are Justin Sphinx for the Warwick Mirelurks and Gary Estate for The Slog Ghouls.

20 August 2296 - Super Swinger -- Homestead Slams 5 Hits

It doesn't happen very often, but it did for Warwick Homestead today -- a 5-hit effort. He went on a rampage at Tarberry Field Forever and paced the Mirelurks to a 8-7 win over The Slog Ghouls.

After his dynamite batting performance, the Warwick center fielder told reporters that he "just tried to get in a good count and have a good at-bat. That's all I can control."

His philosophy paid dividends today. He slammed 5 hits in 5 tries and put his name in the record book. Warwick Homestead hit an RBI double in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, hit a two-run single in the 6th and singled in the 8th.

In his stats this season, Homestead has posted a batting average of .353 with 95 hits in 269 at-bats, 5 home runs and 53 RBIs. He has also scored 51 runs, walked 16 times and compiled a .388 OBP.

20 August 2296 - Lady Killers Hammered by Basile, Fall Back 1-0

Finch Farm Four Leafs right fielder Matt Basile was the difference-maker at Valentine Detective Agency Field today, as he led his club to victory in a pivotal Game 1 of the Quarterfinals. The Four Leafs took the 11-4 win over the Starlight Lady Killers to seize a 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series presented by Diamond City Radio.

In the top of the first, with the game still scoreless, Basile hit a run-scoring single to put his team in the lead. The Four Leafs never trailed.

"We're going to have to play flawless baseball from here on out," Starlight player-coach and losing pitcher City Moore said. "Which, let's face it, we haven't been doing lately."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow. Slated to start are Steve Rocky for the Finch Farm Four Leafs and Enrique Rodriguez for the Starlight Lady Killers.

20 August 2296 - Cats Shut Out 51s in Game 1 Matchup

Matt "Ace in the Hole" Hope knew he couldn't win the series for the Atom Cats because it would take a lot more than one start. The best he could do, he figured, was put the Cats up a game and give the Coolest Field in Town faithful a good time. Check and check.

The Atom right-hander threw a complete-game shutout against the red-hot Oberland T-51s to get the Cats on the board in the series, striking out 2 along the way. The Cats will be looking to keep the momentum the next time the teams meet. With the 5-0 win, Atom now leads 1-0 in the best-of-5 series presented by WRVR.

The T-51s had trouble solving Hope, who surrendered no runs on 5 hits over 9 innings.

"I'll be honest," said Hope, "I didn't have much left in the tank."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Coolest Field in Town. The scheduled starters for the game are Matt Udder for Oberland and Wyatt Wallace for Atom.

20 August 2296 - Oberland Blanked by Hope

Everything clicked on the hill today for Matt "Ace in the Hole" Hope as he hurled the Atom Cats to a 5-0 shutout win over the Oberland T-51s, limiting them to 5 hits while recording 2 strikeouts and yielding 3 walks. He overpowered some batters with fastballs and buckled knees with sharp breaking pitches.

"We had our shot at him a couple of different times," T-51s player-coach Jonathan Abern said. "We just weren't able to get to him."

Hope has made 21 starts, tossed 126.1 innings, struck out 76 batters and walked 46. His record is 7-8 with a 7.05 ERA and he has limited other teams to a .317 batting average.

30 August 2296 - Big 9th Propels Abernathy

Abernathy shortstop Austin Engill was the key at Fallon Field at Egret Tours Marina today, as he powered the Adamantium to victory in a critical Game 1 of the First Round. The Adamantium took the 12-9 win over the Egret Scrappers to seize a 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series.

Abernathy used a clutch hit from Kevin Covert to get the win. The pinch hitter drilled a grand slam home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Adamantium ahead, 12-9. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"Every team in baseball loses," Scrappers player-coach Troy Phillabum said. "We're in the playoffs and we still have the same guys that got us here. We'll bounce back."

The next game is scheduled for tomorrow at Fallon Field at Egret Tours Marina. The scheduled starters for the game are Joe Penaltybox for the Abernathy Adamantium and Nick Poppa for the Egret Scrappers.

I was going to say that the T-51s look like the class of the bunch and also that, for some reason, I had an inkling that the Scappers could do well Not feeling too confident now that both lost their first two games - though breathing slightly easier now that both have drawn level. Now, where did I put that box of chems?

With all four series tied 1-1 and the remainder of the games at the higher seed, I expect all four league winners to win the first round. With that said, if any of the wild cards are going to win, I think the Scrappers and Lady Killers are most likely, while the Cats and Ghouls have tough teams to beat.

August 2296 - News and Notes - August 24-26

24 August 2296 - Concord Outfielder Victim of Lure Scheme

Concord Radstags reserve outfielder and 21st-round draft pick Gene Leftswipe thought he was going to meet a potential mate. While using an intranet chatting program, Leftswipe thought he had met a young woman in the Cambridge area near Union Hope Cathedral. Instead, the person he met used a new intranet scheme called a “Lure Scheme” to rob him of his money, dignity, and potentially his baseball career.

The attacker has not yet been caught, but Brotherhood troops are doing a search sweep for the culprit. Leftswipe was badly injured and unable to give a witness statement. Others in the area only said that they saw a masked person running towards the Charles River from the place where Leftswipe was found.

Leftswipe was assaulted with a mahogany baseball bat, ironic since he was unable to use one all season. He was left with multiple head, torso, and leg injuries. He is currently fighting for his life in Kendall Hospital.

Teammates said that Leftswipe has expressed loneliness and was determined to find a girlfriend "one way or the other." Maybe the intranet is not the best place to do that.

25 August 2296 - Finch Farm Holds Fan Festival

The Finch Farm Four Leafs have at least two more games to play this season, but they want to set the attendance mark for the playoffs. They started off the excitement for the playoffs with a fan festival.

The big draw at the festival was the unveiling of their Brotherhood League Champions banner. Team owner Abraham Finch unwrapped the banner to hang from the press box at Finch Family Park. The Four Leafs, who finished the regular season at 37-23, won the division by 5.5 games over The Slog.

The Four Leafs will host the Starlight Lady Killers this weekend in a best-of-three weekend. The team that wins two games will win the Quarterfinals Round five-game series and move on to the Semifinals Round of the CBO Playoffs.

26 August 2296 - Mirelurks Reveal Second Banner

The Warwick Mirelurks look to be destined for greatness this season. After finishing tied for the best record in the Commonwealth Baseball Organization and having the best record in the Minutemen League, the Mirelurks are one of the favorites to win it all.

That follows the spring award Warwick won when they Silver Shroud Invitational Tournament. The Mirelurks have never known a lack of success so far, as they hope to continue with a Quarterfinals Round series win over the visiting The Slog Ghouls.

Roger Warwick, owner of the team and de facto mayor of the Warwick Homestead, held a barbecue for fans and players from both Warwick and The Slog. He then hung the banner next to the Silver Shroud Invitational Tournament championship banner from the press box window.

Warwick and The Slog resume their series on Thursday. The teams are tied at one game apiece in the five-game series.

27 August 2296 - Nordhagen Beach Finds Sponsor, Reveals Minor Teams

The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys may be able to call themselves the Fat Boys in the future, as they fill themselves on sweet coffee and donuts. Owner Emogene Cabot and executives signed a deal today with Slocum's Joe, a pre-War chain of donut restaurants that have been restored throughout the Commonwealth.

The headquarters of Slocum's Joe is located in Malden, which is not far away from the location of the Brotherhood League's minor league, which appears to be in and around the Malden and west Charleston areas.

Nordhagen Beach's affiliate will be located in Greentop Nursery, as was assumed when the Red Rockets uniforms were first revealed. Due to changes in sponsorship, Red Rocket and Kasumi Nakano has purchased the Jamaica Plain Treasures. That means the Greentop Nursery team is no longer the Red Rockets. Instead, they will be known as the Night People.

Nate Howard has stated that he was working to secure investments from every settlement and fledgling companies. Most companies are not new at all but renovations of pre-War buildings and productions. In some cases, that has gone without a hitch. However, some companies like BosCom, Poseidon Energy, and the Corvega Assembly Plant are still struggling to make pre-War technology function as desired.

Below we have attached the Slocum's Joe logo, the Night People logo, and home and away uniforms for the 2297 team.

2296 August 27 - Abernathy Holds Picnic in the Park

Three hours before first pitch at Tato Field, owner Blake Abernathy and the Adamantium hosted fans and served tatos and melons. During the event, the team revealed its league championship banner.

The Adamantium, who are tied with the Egret Scrappers in the first round of the Commonwealth Baseball Organization at one game apiece. They start Game Three today at 2:05, with scheduled first pitch at 8:05 PM tomorrow and 5:05 PM on Saturday if necessary.

The league championship banner is pictured below.

28 August 2296 - Oberland Looking for Boost with RL Banner

The Oberland T-51s were the last of the league winner to raise their banner, and they hope it is not too late.

Trailing 2-1 in the best-of-five series against the visiting Atom Cats, the T-51s are the #1 seed in the CBO playoffs, but they need to win the next two to advance to the final four teams.

Team owner August Oberland gave a speech to the fans asking for their support and to "use the power of the banner to push us to victory."

Team leaders Sheng Kawolski and B.J. Perez and player-coach Jonathan Abern helped in unveiling the banner. The banner is pictured below.

I don't want to say I'm confident in the Cats, but being up 2-1 in a best of five as the underdog isn't a bad place to be. Let's close this out!

Great performance by the Cats, did not see that one coming. I think it's wide open now.

Not only did they get in to the playoffs by the skin of their fur, but they also beat the best team in the CBO in four games. What a turn around after that huge seven-game losing streak to finish the regular season.

Three Game 5s are coming today, so we shall see. If Warwick stays alive, they are the definitive favorite. However, any of the seven remaining teams could win it. That's why you play the games and murder bloatflies, after all!
