Walkers news: Sept. 19 -- St. Louis 4, Peoria 2, Game 1

Record: 82-67, 1st, 0.5 GA Cedar Rapids
Rookie starting pitcher Juan Farias allowed two runs over 6.2 innings, he also drove in three of his team's runs in a 4-2 win over Peoria in the first game of a doubleheader at Globe Like Park.
The River Walkers were the home team due to this being a game that was rescheduled a game that had been rained out in St. Louis earlier in the season.
Farias (6-5) allowed two runs on seven hits over 6.2 innings. He struck out six and didn't walk a batter.
The first run he allowed came in the top of the first -- a two-out RBI single by Eric Nichols -- the second happened in the seventh -- on a solo homer by Ethan Rives to lead off the inning and make the score 4-2.
Farias left the game with two outs in the seventh after having thrown 93 pitches.

Craig Fritzler allowed two baserunners in the ninth but still earned his 25th save.

Manuel Coke hit his 47th home run of the season off Goshe in the third pushing that advantage to 3-1.

Columbus right-hander Cesar Gamez pitched his first no-hitter at the major league level in the Golden Bears 2-0 win over Cincinnati at Forbes Field (1959).
Gamez (10-11) allowed just one baserunner -- it came when the River Sharks Brian Vargo reached on a booted ground ball by Columbus third baseman Justin Schneider -- while striking out five and walking none.
It is the third no-hitter of the season.
Milwaukee's Pablo Maldonaldo no-hit Chicago on August 8.
Evansville's Ben Wilson tossed a no-hitter 10 days later against Dayton.
Gamez effort also helped Columbus wrap up the American League East Division title with a 92-59 record.

It is the ninth division championship for the Bears.
Columbus has reached the World Series five times (2019, '21,'27, '29 and '38) and won three championships (2019, '29 and '38).

Former River Walker Brad Monroe limited St. Louis to one run over 7.1 innings and Peoria beat up on St. Louis rookie starting pitcher Nate Simmons in his major league debut as the Rivermen breezed to a 9-1 win at Globe Life Park.
The win was Peoria's third in a row to complete the four-game series.
Monroe (8-14), who went 15-6 in 2038, his lone season in St. Louis, allowed one run -- on a Rich Dodson homer in the top of the third inning which tied it 1-1 -- on just four hits. He struck out four and didn't issue a walk.
Francisco Perez pitched the final 1.2 innings for Peoria and did not allow a base runner.
Tied 1-1, some sloppy defense opened the door for a three-run bottom of the third for the Rivermen.
First baseman Tom Porter and Dodson at third both made errors to open the inning and put two runners on.
Tony Gamez, who went 3 for 4, followed with an RBI double off Simmons to snap the tie.
Simmons then uncorked a wild pitch, allowing Noah Smith to score the inning's second run.
Eric Nichols plated the third run of the frame with a deep fly ball to center.
The Rivermen tacked on three more runs in the fourth.
Simmons retired the inning's first two batters but then fell apart.
He walked Danny Camargo and Gamez followed with his second double in as many innings, scoring the base runner.
Bobby Dotson was given an intentional walk.
Nichols followed with a single to load the bases.
That brought Victor Rosiles to the mound.
Bradley Mondesir greeted him with a two-run single.
The Rivermen got their final two runs in the seventh off Chris Willett.
Ethan Rives hit a one-out solo homer.
Jesse Chappelow and Monroe then followed with back-to-back doubles making it 9-1.
