The St. Louis Cardinals have learned that left-handed closer Juan Amarante has been named recipient of the National League's Reliever of the Year award.
Acquired in a July 2 trade with the San Diego Padres, the 28-year-old Amarante appeared in 26 games for the Cardinals going 3-1 with 16 saves and a 1.45 ERA.
In San Diego, he pitched in 31 games and went 5-4 with 17 saves and a 1.64 ERA.
This made his combined numbers 57 games with an 8-5 record, 33 saves and a 1.55 ERA.

The St. Louis Cardinals have made a trade of minor-leaguers with the Chicago White Sox acquiring outfielder Bob Lankford and starting pitcher Ricardo Arias in exchange for second baseman Steve Campbell and catcher Jim Bishop.
The 24-year-old Lankford is the only one of the players with any major league experience.
After making his debut in 2031, hitting .241 with five home runs and 19 RBIs for the White Sox, a year later he played in 39 games and hit .234 with three home runs and 14 RBIs.
He spent the remainder of 2032 at AAA Charlotte, where he hit .305 with 19 home runs and 65 RBIs in 106 games.
Lankford is expected to be given a chance to earn a starting job with the Cardinals in spring training.
Lankford was acquired by the White Sox in the first round of the 2027 MLB draft.
Signed as a free agent out of the Dominican Republic by Cleveland in 2028, the White Sox acquired the 20-year-old Arias in an off-season trade on Dec. 1, 2031.
Arias spent the 2032 season at High-A where in 23 games/13 starts, he went 7-3 with three saves and a 3.40 ERA.
Taken by St. Louis in the second round of the 2031 draft, the 22-year-old Campbell split time between Rookie League, Class A Palm Beach and High-A Peoria in 2032.
In 90 games/87 starts, he hit a combined .285 with 12 home runs and 55 RBIs.
An eighth-round pick in the 2030 draft by the Cardinals, the 24-year-old Bishop split time between AA Springfield and AAA Memphis last season.
In 64 games/57 starts, he hit .341 with eight home runs and 33 RBIs.

The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired third baseman Luis Almeyda from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for 1B/OF James Triantos and minor-league right-hander Deven Sheerin.
A two-time All-Star, Almeyda hit .250 with 33 home runs and 81 RBIs in 155 games/145 starts for the Angels a year ago.
For his career, since breaking in during the 2027 season, Almeyda has hit .252 with 123 home runs and 324 RBIs in 709 games/686 starts.
Trinatos, 29, had a nice run with the Cardinals since being acquired from the Cubs during the 2028 season.
He batted .315 during the 2031 season and had a career batting mark of .283.
In 2032, Triantos played in 149 games/142 starts, he hit .277 with six home runs and 51 RBIs.
During his time with the Cardinals, over 611 games/568 starts, Triantos his .283 with 28 homers and 188 RBIs.
Acquired in a trade with the Yankees before the 2032 season, Sheerin, 27, got a chance to earn a spot in the St. Louis rotation but struggled going 2-7 with a 4.84 ERA in 20 games/19 starts.
He spent the rest of the season at AAA Memphis, where in 10 games/6 starts he was 0-6 with a 6.35 ERA.
