Mike Flynn 1891

The current Facepack image (and on Baseball Reference) does not depict the 1-game major leaguer, instead showing another Mike J. Flynn from the 1909 Springfield team. By 1909, the real Flynn had long retired from baseball and was running a bowling alley. I have yet to find a picture of him so for now he is to be considered a missing player.

Here are Azcue's Cleveland blue cap, and other choices for Angels's small a cap.

Mike Kosman 1944 UIN

Kosman appeared in one game as a pinch runner for the Reds. He is pictured here on Opening Day courtesy of the 4/19/1944 edition of The Dayton Herald.

Jim Begley and Gus Sandberg

Here are a couple rarities from the 1924 Cincinnati Reds team photo that was put up for auction today on RMY. Begley appeared in a doubleheader on May 28th for the Reds and that was it. Sandberg had more exposure as a backup catcher in 1923 and 1924 but I didn't have a decent Reds image of him. The Remini app worked some magic here as well.

A Tale of 2 McDermotts

There are two Michael McDermott's, both pitchers, in baseball history and both from the 19th century. Coincidentally, both pitched for Louisville and also strange is that Baseball-Reference features the same photo for both of them.

I am of the belief that the Facepack image for Mike J. McDermott actually pictures Michael McDermott, who pitched briefly for Louisville in 1889 and was from Fall River. I've attached that image, plus a confirmed image of Mike J. McDermott (from the 1896 Louisville team photo) for comparison.

Tom Asmussen 1907

Facepack upgrade, pictured in the 8/20/1907 edition of The Boston Globe. Asmussen played in 2 games for the Boston Doves that year.

Of the two images you posted, cinemaodyssey, the photo below will confirm that your image on the left is of Michael J. McDermott. The photo below comes from the book, Baseball Treasures, by Douglas Congdon-Martin and John Kashmanian, published in 1992. The caption for this photo was "Michael McDermott, pitcher. Mike played for Louisville (American Association, 1889 and National League, 18995-6), and for Cleveland and St. Louis, 1897. From the Kashmanian Collection."

The photo which appears for both McDermott's on Baseball-Reference.com comes from a team collage of the 1886 Poughkeepsies. That team collage appears in the book, The Beer and Whisky League, by David Nemec, published in 1994. The Baseball-Reference record for Michael H. McDermott does not show him playing for any minor league team in 1886, but the timing of this photo makes it much more likely that it's Michael H. than Michael J.,whose pro career didn't start until 1895. So it's a pretty safe bet that the Baseball-Reference photo is Michael H.

Thank you for that. It's obvious the two men's careers were merged in the annals of baseball history at some point. I also found an old-timer's reunion where Mike J. McDermott is towering over the other people which likely means his height and weight on BR is incorrect as well.

John Kelly 1879

I believe this player is another victim of mistaken identity on Baseball Reference. It appears his career has been merged with Kick Kelly and maybe another minor league John Kelly. I have attached a woodcut that depicts the real John Kelly from the 7/20/1884 edition of The Cincinnati Enquirer showing him as the catcher for the Cincinnati Unions. This image differs greatly from the Baseball Reference photo, which shows John Kelly the manager of the 1888 Louisville Colonels (also attached). Lastly, I have attached an image of Kick Kelly during his playing years with the 1879 Syracuse team.

Charlie Krehmeyer 1884

Here's another option for Krehmeyer, which was found in the 6/18/1886 edition of The Tennessean.
