Typo, check box score, plus I looked up Battern, and no such player in 1908 Jersey or Philadelphia. All the box scores for Cedar Brook that I checked it was spelled Batten. May not be George, I'm just putting it out there.

George Batten
Quote:
Meanwhile, a Batten shows up playing for Brown Prep in 1910 (Philadelphia Inquirer, April 16, 1910, pg. 11) There seem to have been multiple Batten's playing in the Philadelphia area around that time. Added 10/24/2022: In light of the photo of Batten below (from the 11/9/1911 Boston Globe), I don't think the player with Cedar Brook is George Batten. The chin looks wrong. I've removed my matches. The Cedar Brook is the only photo I have found of a Batten and the age could be about right if it was George. Not saying its George but at least a photo of a Batten is found. Here's the Phillips Exeter 1911 baseball team. Last edited by Dto7; 10-23-2022 at 01:43 AM. |

Here's Batten on the 1911 Exeter football team assuming it is the same player. This comes from the 11/9/1911 edition of The Boston Globe.

Nice find.
The Sunday edition of the Boston Globe did an article about the Andover 23-5 win over Exeter and used George Batten name. Last edited by Dto7; 10-23-2022 at 06:03 AM. |

I clipped and enlarged some of the yearbook photos with similar chins. Also ran them through a photo enhancer. Let me know if I missed any prospective ones but the chin was what I focused on. The resulting files are here:
https://www.mediafire.com/file/38rgs...ttens.zip/file His brother Herbert Batten has a picture as an older man. I can see some of the chin there too but it's a tough angle and not my expertise. There might be a handful of faces that can also be knocked out as possibilities from the overall team photos too if they had senior pics in the last of the posted yearbooks on e-yearbook. The team photo on the 9th of Nov 1911 in the Globe also shows Batten and provides names against the other faces.

To my eyes, this Batten from the Boston Globe strikes a remarkable resemblance to the George Batten that Marc Okkonen had found for his book (see below).

Roy Hutson 1925
To the best of my knowledge Hutson did not play with a beard during his professional career. Here's a clean-shaven image of him from the 8/20/1928 edition of the Portland Evening Express.

My point was that Hutson is nearly always depicted as a member of the HOD team, including Target's Dodgers cards, when he had a lengthy minor league career prior to that. I believe it is more representative of his ball playing career to show him clean shaven.

An interesting topic - here's a list of Pro-Ball players who had don the HoD
's uniforms... http://houseofdavidbaseball.com/players/hired.asp Interesting facts are mentioned in this site... Thank you for the cleaner version of Roy Hutson - nice find!!

Red Murray Howell
Saw this Red Murray Howell on ebay as I looked for a picture for a facegen. I ended up using a newspaper clipping and wish I saw this photo first. I had not seen too many Red Murrays even though his family was on the thread looking for pics. I am posting both for the record.

Who do we think this is?
Newly listed in Heritage Auctions as a cabinet of an unidentified Giant. From the type of tie, looks more like the 1892-93 photography of the team, than the 1895 shots used in the Newsboy Tobacco cabinet photos of Rusie, Burke, et al - but it could be from anywhere in that span of four or five years.

I think it may be Silver King. I did face recognition search using Pimeyes and several photos of King showed up. He was with the Giants in 1892-1893 and I can see a resemblance.

Silver King 1886
Nice work. And the baby face works too -- he was only 24 when he got to New York. I actually thought it might have been a mascot!

FWIW, that cabinet (or an identical one) was listed as Lot 181 by Hunt Auction in March 2019 and misidentified as Pop Schriver. BMarlowe, in a collectors' forum, stated that it was actually Silver King.

Just to be sure... is this Jack Caulfield (1946)? I can't confirm in the thread since all the previous pictures of him were deleted...

Thanks for the confirmation! It wasn't colorized, I use a website to do it since sometimes it's easier to do a FG if you have some colors to work with.
