Walter Lynch - Red Sox?

I've been looking for an image of Lynch, whose ML career consisted of 3 games with the Sox in July of 1922.

Found this in the July 8, 1922 edition of the Boston Globe - I will say that it certainly COULD be him in a Sox uniform - the quality and orientation of the image is such that pinstripes could be obscured and the color of the bill of the cap would be invisible.

Having said that, what is the likelihood of it being a Sox uni? I don't know what day he was signed on, but he debuted on the 8th, the day this appeared.

Also, this page of the paper contained a column where readers could write in for interpretation of rules. One question and answer went like this:
Q: The batter hit the ball out of the lot, and while he was running between third and home, a player of his own side took a bat and held it over the baseline and the batter jumped over it. Did that put him out?
A: No, however it is just as well to omit jinks of that kind.

True then, true 100 years later.

Norm McMillan - Red Sox

I had not been able to locate an image of McMillan with the Sox in '23 previously - here he is with others before a game with Cleveland from the July 23, 1931 edition of the Boston Globe - probably just before they all got into those little cars.

Camp Skinner - Red Sox

Another Sox I had never seen before - Camp Skinner, from the April 30, 1923 edition of the Boston Globe.

Tom Barrett - Red Sox

I had never seen an image of Marty's brother with the Sox during his brief stint in the summer of 1992 - here he is, with Greg Vaughn of the Brewers, from the August 16, 1992 edition of the Globe.

Biff Schlitzer - Red Sox

If anyone needs an image (as I did) of Schlitzer with the Sox in 1909, here is one taken from the Boston Globe on 6/8/09.

Brace for a Brace question....

I haven't seen anything on this topic here in a long time, so what the heck - any updates on the status of the Brace collection?

Thanks for the Barrett - what is your thought on whether the Lynch image represents him in a Boston uni?

Walt Lynch

I'm satisfied, being in the Boston Globe I would say it's probably a Boston Uni. but I'm no expert.

I think that the info provided in the link below, although from 2020, is still current. There is a private group that has acquired the collection and has been attempting to catalog it, but they don't plan to sell the photos to individual collectors like Brace Studio did.

Don hahn 1975

Don Hahn was traded to the Phillies in December of 1974 with Tug McGraw and OF Dave Schneck for P Mac Scarce, John Stearns, and Del Unser

He made the Phillies out of spring training and went 0-5 in 9 games before he was released on May 21st. He ended up playing for 3 teams in 1975 (Cardinals and Padres to follow) before his career was over in MLB

The great e-bay follow Dr. JTEEEE has this photo of Hahn during his one 1/2 month in the big leagues w/ Philly

PHOTO LOCATED Tug Thompson 1882 Cincinnati 1884 Indianapolis

I located a photo of Joseph Parkinson "Tug" Thompson, a Canadian catcher who played briefly in the AA in 1882/1884.

He was a member of the Harriston Browns, and I found this great photo of the 1878 on the website for the Wellington, Ontario archives. He formed a battery with Bob Emslie. https://www.wellington.ca/en/discove...on-browns.aspx

Question about Ed Callahan 1884

I went down a rabbit hole looking into E. Callahan, who was with Columbus in 1877 (and possibly in 1876, but I can't confirm that), and I was briefly wondering if he was Ed Callahan (he wasn't). However, while going down that hole, I found that Ed Callahan played for Boston College in 1878. That leads me to wonder if anyone has ever tried to find a photo of him in a Boston College yearbook. I briefly searched online, but the Boston College archives (online at least) don't go that far back.

(I never did figure out the first name of the guy with Columbus. He seems to have come from New York with Bill Barnie.)

1877 was the first year BC conferred degrees. That's very early BC history! Alas, it looked like 1913 was the very first yearbook produced by the school:

Ralph Citarella - White Sox

Anything of Citarella from his mid-season call up with the Sox in 1987? Thinking he's something of a Whale...

Stan Papi - 1979 Sox

Good news: while scouring the internet, I tripped across a color photo of IF Stan Papi in the much sought-after gray BoSox unis.

Bad news: It seems to be from a post card and the image is a tad out of focus.

Any chance anyone might have a better version of the pic they can share?

Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays to you as well!

This is the MyHeritage website photo enhancement of it. Maybe Remini can be used too and the results assessed. They are two different attempts, so a crop and zoom of the wider view one might be better than the close-up I put through the enhancer...
