September 2296 - News and Notes - Sep 1
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 1 September 2296 - Gadz Missing Salem Witch Hats reserve third baseman Mike Gadzinski is missing, according to a caravan operator who was traveling north with him. According to the caravaneer, whose name we do not have, their group was ambushed by raiders north of the Commonwealth patrol zones. Gadzinski was headed to Boxford, Massachusetts, following the CBO regular season. The caravaneer and others were able to escape, but they said that they saw Gadzinski get “collared.” Being collared means that a person had a slave collar placed around his or her neck. Raider groups are notorious for capturing people and putting them into slavery, especially the young and strong. They are kept in captivity by having an explosive collar that limits their movements. The CBO office and Brotherhood of Steel operatives have been alerted and will search the areas from Salem to Boxford for the whereabouts of the raider gang and stronghold. When Gadzinski did not get drafted in the 2296 Inaugural CBO Draft, he figured the best team to try to sign with was the Salem Witch Hats since he was from Boxford, just northwest of Salem. His family stayed in Boxford, while Gadz, as he is called by everyone he meets, moved to Salem three years ago when he was 14 to play in the Charlestown Youth League’s Salem Museum People. For three years, he played ball for the Museum People, so he was excited to get a chance to play for the Salem Witch Hats as an undrafted free agent. Unfortunately for him, he was never able to break through to the active roster, so he remained a reserve all season. Once the season ended for the Witch Hats, he decided to return to Boxford to spend time with his family rather than rejoining the Museum People for fall ball. All players from 14-18 are allowed to play youth league baseball. Next season, the CBO will move to allow only players 18 or older to move to the CBO or join an independent adult team. Players under 18 will have to remain in the youth leagues unless they are already on a CBO roster. We will update you when we receive any word about Gadzinski. We at Publick Occurrences also would like to remind our readers that areas outside the Boston Commonwealth area are still highly dangerous. Take extra armor and weapons with you wherever you go!

September 2296 - News and Notes - Sep 3
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 3 September 2296 - Stadium Entrance Banners Completed for Playoff Hosts Both the Atom Cats and The Slog Ghouls were able to unveil their stadium entrance banners today before they face off in their playoff games. The stadium banners also give some insight to co-sponsors for the franchises for the 2297 season. The CBO will be announcing at the conclusion of the playoffs the names and co-sponsors for all 24 minor league teams in the CBO. A few have been revealed already, but now the Cats and Ghouls can add their names to the list. For the Atom Cats, they are already self-sponsored thanks to the Atom Cats Garage. As we see in their stadium banner, the Cats will be co-sponsored by the Cabot House Estate. The Cabot House is a famous pre-War relic inhabited by its original owners, including once by Emogene Cabot, the owner of the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys. Emogene's brother Jack studies something called the Mysterious Serum, a serum that is mysterious. What we know is that every once in a while, the Cabots are suddenly much younger looking. Nate Howard has hinted that alien technology is behind the Mysterious Serum. Nate has closed off some parts of the Commonwealth, including the basement of the Parsons State Insane Asylum, which apparently has some link to the Cabots. Emogene does visit there from time to time, which leads people to believe a family member is detained there. The PSIA serves as the prison for the Commonwealth's more disturbed criminals and riffraff. Not everyone is immediately put to death in this civilized Nate-led Commonwealth. The Cabot House investment with the Atom Cats is purported to be related to the Cats' minor league team, which will play in the square outside the Cabot House. There are not a lot of settlers in that area due to the private property restrictions, but the team should be well-funded. The Cats are the eighth-seed in the CBO playoffs, but they upset Oberland in the first round. They will now host the first two games of the Semifinals against third-seed Finch Farm. The Slog is also self-sponsored thanks to its tarberry crops. It has made a partnership with reopened Drumlin Diner restaurants that can be found in many settlements throughout the Commonwealth. Drumlin Diners were a pre-War Boston-area franchise that had 24/7 American food service. These days they serve mostly what the wastelands offer, but they have become popular eateries in the settlements, including one just outside The Slog. We do not yet know where the Ghouls' minor-league team will play, but it should be somewhere around the Malden area based on other teams announced in the Brotherhood League, including that Nordhagen Beach's team will play in Greentop Nursery and Salem's team will play in Breakheart Banks. Speculation is that The Slog's team will be in Malden, as far north as Outpost Zimonja, or even as far east as Nahant or Lynn.

Machine has been a true hidden talent on the Cats, something I didn't notice. He only hit four home runs during the regular season, but otherwise he hit well. In the entire CBO he was really productive as a batter from the catcher position, leading all catchers in WAR (2.0). He finished second behind Egret's Tony Tamez in batting average (.363 to .352). He led all catchers in extra-base hits (45, second was Adam Henderson of East Boston Prep with 35). He led all catchers in doubles (38) and triples (3). He had the most runs (48), but he finished fifth in RBI (45); Stuart Constantino for Quincy had the most with 63. On defense, he was second behind Cozy Kazar of Oberland in defensive efficiency. Machine definitely has been productive, and he may see himself winning the CBO award for the best catcher.

September 2296 - News and Notes - Sept 7
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 9 September 2296 - Small Bertha Taking Her Business Elsewhere Small Bertha and Vim! Corporation announced that the company was moving its sponsorship from Sunshine Tidings to a location much closer to Bertha's home on Mount Desert Island. Vim! will become the sponsor of the Salem Witch Hats beginning in the 2297 season. In addition, Bertha has worked out a deal to expand the sponsorship of the team beyond just the Witch Hats. She has worked out an exclusive rights deal that Vim! will be the sole drink product of all home Brotherhood League stadiums. The six teams of the Brotherhood League--Salem, County Crossing, East Boston Prep, Finch Farm, Nordhagen Beach, and The Slog--will begin that exclusive rights deal in 2297. Bertha called the move a win for her, the Witch Hats, and the Brotherhood League. She said that travel from Maine to west of Boston had been tiresome, so it would be nicer to travel from the northeast area of the Boston Commonwealth to save time. "Port to port," she said. Nate Howard did not release a statement but did state that he had approved both the deals and announcement. More information will come as it is available. Bertha will claim no stock in the Witch Hats organization nor make any changes to the team. The Vim! logo will appear at all six stadiums and all Brotherhood League correspondence. All radio and TV broadcasts of games will also mention the Vim! name when covering Brotherhood League games. Talia McGovern, owner of the Sunshine Tidings Chemists, also released a short statement: "I am relieved to have the chance to work with another company in the Commonwealth." McGovern and Bertha had a tumultuous relationship since the beginning of their partnership. Apparently, Bertha had ordered McGovern to draft Bertha's brother Tony Bertha. Instead, McGovern selected Front Porch Potter, which threw Small Bertha into a rage. McGovern was seen sporting a shiner on her eye shortly after, leading many to believe Small Bertha was responsible. After insistence, McGovern agreed to a three-way trade among the Chemists, Starlight Lady Killers, and County Crossing Bloodbugs that included a total of 12 players, including Tony Bertha and Potter. Tony Bertha did not enjoy a particularly successful first season with the Chemists. In 20 starts, he finished with a 6-9 record and a 5.15 ERA. He also released a short statement: "I understand if Ms. McGovern wishes to get rid of me now that my sister has moved on, but I want it to be on record that I like it here in Sunshine Tidings, and I will work hard to win a championship here if I am here next year." McGovern has indicated that she is thrilled that there will be full staffs for the 2297 season and mentioned that she would leave all personnel decisions to the staff. For the Salem Witch Hats, they are happy to welcome Vim! after the disappointment of not receiving a sponsorship from John-Caleb Bradberton and Nuka-Cola. Team owner Barney Rook was insistent that the team remain as it is, thus spurning Kasumi Nakano's offer. Small Bertha stated that she was happy to put the Vim! name on the stadium and the Vim! products in Brotherhood League stadiums, so she was content to make money. As she put it, in Salem she would be "hands off." McGovern probably wishes that was true in Sunshine Tidings.

To help organize myself: Sunshine Tidings and Vault 81 are the only two organizations without a main sponsor. I guess I had better hurry those announcements before the big minor league announcement comes with all of its details. There will be a whole lot of offseason posts related to that announcement, but I am hoping to go faster through seasons, so the whole DCR and WRVR features are probably going away. They slow me down a lot!

September 2296 - News and Notes - Sept 8
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 8 September 2296 - Mechanist to co-Sponsor Silver Shroud For their first year of existence, Fort Hagen Silver Shroud owner Isabel Cruz, known throughout the Commonwealth as the Mechanist, has declared that baseball suits her, so she is going to put more money from her company, General Atomics, into the Fort Hagen baseball team. Though Cruz paid the salaries of the Shroud players and Hubris Comics Park, she was reluctant to put much other money in player equipment and practice facilities. The Shroud, for example, played in the only stadium without a shower facility or a doctor on hand. Cruz said that 2297 would be different. "While I will let Kent [Connolly] continue pushing the brand and working on his movie series," Cruz said, "I will put as much money as necessary to turn this team around." Commissioner Nate Howard has indicated that turn arounds in the league are likely, especially with a fledgling league where diamonds in the rough can become stars. Should the Shroud strike gold with the #3 overall pick in the 2296 Rookie Draft, there could help close the gap from the 13-game deficit they found themselves behind Institute League winner Abernathy.

September 2296 - News and Notes - Sept 10
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 10 September 2296 - Abernathy Unveils Stadium Entrance Banner The Abernathy Adamantium need a big home series. Trailing two games to zero in the best-of-five semifinals against The Slog Ghouls, the Institute League champions and fourth-seed in the CBO playoffs will have to step it up to move on to the Sole Survivor Series. Today, before their home stand against the Ghouls, Abernathy unveiled their stadium banner at Tato Field. Through the banner, we also see that the Adamantium now have a co-sponsor for their team, Wicked Shipping. Though Wicked Shipping is not currently operating to full capacity, we know that the headquarters near Abernathy Farm has seen some settlers working in the warehouse. It is unknown how moving vehicles are going to work or even if that technology is available, but the Corvega Assembly Plant is in operating order. When vehicles will be produced is currently unknown. In the meantime, Wicked Shipping is building its company through caravan "trains." They are using teams of brahmin dragging multiple caravan carts to transport more goods, with their specialty currently moving tatos from Abernathy Farm to other settlements in the Wastelands. Wicked Shipping has also transported some granite from Thicket Excavations to places like Concord, Cambridge, and Lexington.

September 2296 - News and Notes - Sept 11
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 11 September 2296 - Finch Farm Unveils Ballpark Banner, Minor League Location The Finch Farm Four Leafs had to delay the unveiling of their stadium entrance banned because of changes made to the Brotherhood League sponsorship. One day later, the Four Leafs are on the brink of moving on to the Sole Survivor Series, so they are hoping for one more boost and rub of their lucky charms. Before today's scheduled 8:05 PM start, the Finch Farm unveiled their stadium entrance banner at Finch Family Park. The unveiling of the banner now reflects the Vim! sponsorship for the entirety of the Brotherhood League, as well as Finch Farm's co-sponsor, General Atomics Galleria. To clarify, though General Atomics Galleria, an all-robot run shopping center pre-War was owned by the General Atomics company, in the current Commonwealth, the General Atomics Galleria is independent of Isabel Cruz's General Atomics, Inc. Instead, the Galleria is owned still by the robots there with humans performing maintenance and occupying housing just outside the Galleria. Thanks to Nate Howard and some hacking abilities by Heather Casden, the robots were compliant and welcoming to human inhabitants. Finch Farm owner Abraham Finch also revealed that the minor league team would be located at a small baseball park built at General Atomics Galleria and would be known as the Robotics Experts. Uniforms are not currently available for the team. The stadium will be called General Atomics Galleria Park. We now know more about the Brotherhood League's minor affiliates, as opposed to other leagues in the CBO. In addition to the Robotics Experts, we know there will be the Greentop Nursery Night People (Nordhagen Beach), the Breakheart Banks Wasteland Whisperers (Salem), and a team for The Slog co-sponsored by Drumlin Diner that is expected to be at Outpost Zimonja, a settlement west of Lake Quannapowitt in the area of a town called Wilmington, Massachusetts.
