Thank you for the additions Scot, and by the way - you will not find a pic of Edward Smith anywhere unless Cap magicaly turns one up. That photo of Gunboat what what caused me to put the guy you rated up on the list.

My appologies to you, my eyes must have been crossed on that one

DON GRANT LHW / border-line MW

Hometown - Los Angeles, California, USA
Born - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA

18(10)-6-0

Grant rattled off 15 straight wins in 1953/1954. Most of the 15 were local stiffs although 4 of his victories came over very experienced boxers if not well known ones. Those four opponents all had winning records and a combined record of 147-62-21. In 1954, at 15(8)-0-0, Grant faced Esau Ferdinand for the California State Light Heavyweight Title. Ferdinand took the 12 rounder on points and Grant's career never got back on track.
In the years following the Cal. State title loss, Don went 3(1)-5-0 before retiring. During that period, he scored an eighth round KO over Chebo Hernandez and beat Garth Panter on points. Don also suffered fifth and seventh round stoppages to Floyd Patterson and Bobo Olson.

Vista, sorry I missed your call that my son received. Asked him about it last night and he seems to remember someone calling but can't remember why he didn't let me know about it. Teenagers, a pain in the butt.

JOHNNY GRAY HW

Hometown - Chicago, Ill., USA

16(7)-10-1

Gray had some good bouts, he decisioned Sonny Ray in six, fought five rounds with Sonny Liston before being taken out in the sixth, and in 1958 he handed Ernie Terrell his first pro loss - an eight round decision. Then one year later, he did it again, handing Terrell only his second pro loss. On the other hand, Gray was beaten by the likes of Joe Hemphill, Billy Hunter, Bennie Thomas (three times) and Al Lane.

GEORGE GREEN WW

Born - USA (New York?)

9(4)-6-1; 1 NC

Green, comming off a victory over Owen Ziegler, claimed the World Welterweight Title when he defeated Mysterious Billy Smith (Tommy Ryan had moved up to the Middleweight division, leaving the title vacant). After one successful title defense over Charles McKeever, Green chased Ryan up to the middleweight ranks. He was knocked out in the eighteenth round by Joe Walcott in 1897 but received a title bout with Tommy Ryan the following year. Ryan and Green fought a total of three bouts over four years with Ryan stopping Green twice and only losing when he was disqualified for hitting Green while he was down.

Green also defeated Dan Creedon on points over twenty rounds and knocked out Charles Goff in the nineteenth as well as losing a rematch with Smith by stoppage in the eighteenth.
