The St. Louis Cardinals have traded veteran middle infielder Max Muncy to the Detroit Tigers in exchange for AAA minor-league right-hander Warren Wilder.
The 27-year-old Wilder has spent this season at AAA Toledo, posting nine saves in 13 appearances with a 0.00 ERA and no decisions.
He has pitched in 23 major-league games for the Tigers, going 1-0 with a 2.03 ERA.
St. Louis signed Muncy in the offseason as depth in the middle infielder.
He started the season at AAA Memphis and played well -- hitting .259 with three homers and nine RBIs in 16 games -- but struggled in the majors.
In six games/five starts, he hit .062 with no homers or RBIs.
He also complained about a lack of playing time.
With the team's middle infield pretty much set, he needed to go.

Looking to clear some unhappy players from their roster, the St. Louis Cardinals have acquired minor-league first baseman Ed Lalinde from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for right-handed reliever Emmanuel Clase and infielder Jose Tena.
Lalinde, 24, has spent the season at AAA Buffalo where in 23 games/17 starts, he has hit .203 with four home runs and 12 RBIs.
He has yet to appear in a major-league game.
Clase, 35, has been with the Cardinals since the start of the 2032 season.
A year ago, he was fine going 9-3 with 10 saves and a 2.25 ERA in 54 games.
The 2033 season, however, has been a different story after getting a contract extension.
In 12 games, he has two saves, no decisions and a 5.56 ERA.
The 32-year-old Tena was signed in the off-season to provide depth on the infield.
But he has complained about not being a starter.
In 12 games/five starts, he has hit .136 with three RBIs.

The St. Louis Cardinals have placed infielder Gustavo Melendez on the 10-day injured list after he suffered a torn abdominal muscle during an 8-3 victory over the Boston Red Sox on May 23.
After a good start to his major league career, injuries have led to some major struggles for the 25-year-old Melendez.
And this season seems to be the latest.
In 34 games/33 starts this season, he has hit just .189 with two home runs and 12 RBIs.
Menchaca, 25, has spent this season at AAA Memphis, where in 27 games/21 starts he has hit just .164 with two homers and five RBIs.
But he did get some experience in the majors in 2032.
He played in 56 games/44 starts for the Cardinals and hit .244 with three home runs and 18 RBIs.
Menchaca also provides more than adequate defense at second base, third base and shortstop.
