1977 Rangers Team Photo

Does anyone have the key to this photo from 1977? I believe I have ID'd all the players except the guy on the top row, far right, and the guy standing in between Billy Hunter and Pat Corrales.

I am trying to date the image but there are a number of unexplained presences and absences.

A full key would be great, but at least those two guys are really needed.

Thanks!

Never mind - someone surfaced this key which ID's the two unknowns as Doyle Alexander (top row right) and Darold Knowles.

Thanks!

A quick dip into Newspapers.com indicates that the Braves invited at least four non-roster players to the '81 camp, namely Ken Dayley, Dan O'Brien, Greg Field, and Jim Acker. None are listed on the winter rosters in the Hollander and Street and Smith guides.

Newspapers.com comes to the rescue again. Non-roster players reported in the papers were pitchers Rick Camp, Gary Melson, Blane McDonald, and Dan Morogiello (who was eventually put on the roster), catchers Harry Saferight, Matt Sinatro, and Larry Owen, and infielders Bob Beall, Chico Ruiz, and Mike Miller. Camp and Ruiz played for the Braves in 1980 and the others didn't, though Bob Beall did get a cup of mocha java with the Pirates that year.

The invitation of three non-roster catchers that spring is noteworthy because the Braves already had Joe Nolan, Biff Pocoroba, Bill Nahorodny, Bruce Benedict, and Dale Murphy on the roster. Nolan wasn't much with the glove, Benedict was still young and inexperienced, Pocoroba was recovering from an arm operation, Murphy was better suited to other positions, and Nahorodny had never played regularly in the big leagues.

Jack Kull 1909

I received an email looking for information on the image purportedly of Kull on Baseball Reference. Does anyone know where this came from? The only image I have of Kull came from 1911 in a Trenton newspaper.

Jacob Doyle 1872 MISSING PLAYER

I found an image of Jacob Doyle while he was serving as a circuit court bailiff in the 4/7/1925 edition of the Chicago Tribune. He served many years in the Navy and was a Lieutenant Commander during WWI. He was a long-time resident of Lake Bluff and the Waukegan newspapers are filled with his witticisms. The papers refer to him almost exclusively as "J.D. Doyle" or "Commander Doyle" for the duration of his life.

I found a photo of Dave Pierson, who is pictured as an older man in his obituary in the November 11, 1922 Newark Evening News.

Okay, why is the name of the league in the home of Ohtani, et al, subject to a block? That's very confusing. I would have honored it if I knew.

1988 Opening Day Line-ups

Looking for 1988 AL and NL opening day line-ups - my usual source for these, the Sporting News, doesn't seem to have published them, and Newspapers.com hasn't helped yet either.

Thanks!
