Lew Drill 1902 (Baltimore uniform)
Lew Drill began his major league career in 1902 with the Washington Senators. This thread contains fabulous images of him in his Washington home uniform (post# 30596) and road uniform (post# 26209). When the American League restocked the Baltimore Orioles in the summer of 1902 with lent players, Drill was sent by the Senators. He appeared in just two games for Baltimore, one as a catcher and one as a first baseman, and then was returned to Washington.
This image is from the Baltimore Herald of July 19th, 1902, and shows Drill in the Baltimore home uniform. |

Tub Welch 1890
I've been looking for an actual photo of Welch, who played major and minor league ball for many years. He was pictured here with the 1896 Kansas City team in the 11/6/1921 edition of the Kansas City Journal.

Ed Wojna 1985
After three seasons in San Diego, Woj tried to make the White Sox in Spring Training 1988 (courtesy of Larry Fritsch Cards on Ebay)
But he failed, and spent the season as a Vancouver Canadian. For 1989, he was mostly a Colorado Springs Sky Sox, but the Indians did call him up for 3 games at the end of the season (Courtesy of Steve Moore Photography) |

Miguel Dilone Padres 1985
Outfielder Miguel Dilone came up with the Pirates in the mid 70s, at a time when many teams including the Bucs were dazzled by sheer speed. Dilone was indeed a fine baserunner, but he didn't hit in four years of limited trials with Pittsburgh so in the spring of 1978 the Pirates dealt him with Elias Sosa and a PTBN (Mike Edwards) to Oakland for Manny Sanguillen. Dilone didn't hit for the A's either so in mid-season '79 they sold him to the Cubs. Dilone hit .306 in limited duty for the Cubs but as the 1980 season opened he was back in the minors. The Indians, desperate for outfield help, purchased Dilone that May and he caught fire for them. Dilone had a career year for the Tribe, hitting .341 with doubles and triples power, stealing 61 bases with only 18 CS, walking enough to post a .375 OBP, and scoring 82 runs as leadoff man for a lousy team. Dilone was good again in '81, but less good--.290 avg., .334 OBP--and in 1982 he crashed back to earth and hit just .235. He was no better in 1983, and bounced from Cleveland to the White Sox and back to the Pirates that year. Dilone seemed to be done, but he signed as a free agent with the Expos and had a surprising comeback as a reserve for Monttreal, posting a fairish .713 OPS off the bench and stealing 27 bases while being caught only twice. Dilone was ineffective for the 'Spos in the first half of the '85 season and so they released him. The Padres had a very thin bench that year so they took Dilone on, and he finished out the year with them. He hit just .217 in 46 AB but he ran well to the end, stealing 10 bases and being caught three times, a nice ratio. This Fritsch postcard shot from ebay is the first image I have seen of Dilone as a Padre.

I finally found it in my master folders after a good bit of hunting. It's JB934.

Carlos Guevara 2008 (MLB The Show 09 photo)
Here is the rare photo of Carlos Guevara that appears in MLB The Show 09 on his player card in the game that i talked about months ago. I was unable to find this photo anywhere online so I can't find it without the text and card design over the picture itself but it's still a pretty nice shot of him in a Padres uniform.

Mike Shea 1887
Here's a slightly better option for brief major leaguer Shea. He was pictured in the 1888 Houston team composite that was re-printed in the 3/12/1911 edition of The Houston Post.

John Puhl 1898 MISSING PLAYER
I found a very nice team photo in the 3/6/1937 edition of The Day (New London, CT) paper which features several obscure players. Happily, Puhl was pictured in the front row. He had a tryout later with the New York Giants and again in 1899. He died in 1900 of consumption.

Billy Ging 1899
Also featured prominently in the 1898 New London team photo is Ging, who pitched in 1 game for Boston in 1899. This player looks considerably different than the previous image I had in the Facepack so I may have had the wrong person in there. Ging pitched for New London in 1898 and 1899.

Pete Lamer 1902
Lastly, Pierre "Pete" Lamer was also pictured in the 1898 New London team photo. I had a few terrible images of him but I believe this is a nice upgrade.

Does anyone have a complete list of every missing 19th century player?
I know we always update the list everytime a new player is discovered but does anyone have the current full list as of today?
