Looking to bolster their sagging starting rotation, the St. Louis Cardinals have landed a pair of starting pitchers from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for outfielder Jaison Chouria.
Heading from the AL East Division Rays to St. Louis are 28-year-old right-handed starter Gary Gill Hill and 29-year-old righty Ryan Reich.
Hill has gone 6-6 this season with a 3.55 ERA in 18 starts.
He has been a member of the team's starting rotation since 2028.
Over the course of his career, he has gone 68-57 with one save and a 3.89 ERA in 187 games/182 starts.
Reich is in his third season as a starter for the Tampa Bay.
This season, in 18 games, he has gone 5-6 with a 3.63 ERA.
He owns a career record of 27-30 with a 3.64 ERA in 93 games/92 starts.
The Cardinals signed the 28-year-old Chourio to a one-year free agent contract just before the start of spring training.
Chourio, a year ago, hit .272 with 13 home runs and 56 RBIs had a hard time finding a role with the Redbirds.
In 62 games/59 starts, he has hit just .229 with three home runs and 21 RBIs.
With the Rays in need of a major-league center fielder, and the likelihood Chourio, would be allowed to leave as a free agent in the off-season.
The trade to fill a couple of holes in the rotation only made sense.

The St. Louis Cardinals have been informed that relief pitchers Juan Amarante and Alberson Ventura will be members of the National League All-Star team.
It is the third selection for the 29-year-old Amarante, his first two coming before his trade to St. Louis last July.
This season, in 28 games, the left-hander is 1-2 with 17 saves and a 1.80 ERA. He has pitched 30.0 innings, during which he has struck out 35 and has a 1.01 WHIP.
Amarante has two blown saves.
This will be the first trip to the All-Star game for the 27-year-old Ventura, who is presently suspended for instigating a brawl in a July 16 loss to the Cubs, but should be eligible for the All-Star game.
In 33 games, he is 0-1 with two saves and a 1.89 ERA.
Ventura has pitched 33.1 innings, during which he has struck out 38 and has a 0.96 WHIP.
Ventura has one blown save.

The St. Louis Cardinals have learned that High-A pitcher Manuel Perez and Rookie League outfielder, also named Manuel Perez, have been named to the National League team for the Prospects Games.
The right-handed pitching Perez, 20, began the season at AAA Memphis before being demoted to AA Springfield and later High-A Peoria.
In 20 total games, the 20-year-old right-hander has gone 10-8 with a 5.06 ERA.
The outfielder Perez, 17, has played the entire season in the Carolina? rookie league where in 33 games he has hit .397 with eight home runs and 46 RBIs.
