The St. Louis Cardinals have learned that right fielder Charles McAdoo will miss up to four weeks after he suffered a sprained elbow while making a throw from the outfield during an 8-7 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 27.
McAdoo, 31, was hitting .254 with 13 home runs and 47 RBIs at the time of the injury.
The team has not determined a roster move.

Just two days before the trade deadline, the St. Louis Cardinals have completed a trade with the Chicago White Sox.
St. Louis will send starting pitcher Hagen Smith and reserve catcher Francisco Alvarez to Chicago in exchange for right-handed minor-league relief John Lakin and minor-league third baseman Rouselle Shepard.
The Cardinals' acquired the 29-year-old Smith from the White Sox in an off-season trade on Dec. 2, 2031.
Smith, a left-hander, had a solid first season in St Louis going 13-8 with a 3.55 ERA in the 2032 season.
But the 2033 season has been a rough one, with him going 5-9 with a 4.85 ERA in 20 starts.
Due to be a free agent at season's end, and the team had discussed an extension before he dropped five consecutive starts between June 15 and July 7, but later broke them off because of Smith's demands.
The team then decided to make the trade and open a rotation spot for one of its younger pitchers.
Smith owns a career record of 71-77 with a 3.61 ERA.
Signed in the off-season, Alvarez, who started 100 or more games nine times in 10 seasons with the Yankees, did not like it when J.D. Gonzalez won the job in spring training and has gone on to have the best season of his career.
The 31-year-old Alvarez had a decent first couple of months but has faltered as the season has progressed.
In 44 games/34 starts, Alvarez has hit .220 with four home runs and 17 RBIs.
Originally drafted in the 17th round of the 2029 draft by the Baltimore Orioles, the 25-year-old Lakin has yet to pitch above AAA.
The hard-throwing right-hander has split the season between the White Sox AA (Birmingham) and AAA (Charlotte) affiliates.
In 17 games, he has a 0-2 record with one save and a 5.00 ERA.
The 25-year-old Shepard began his career in the Seattle Mariners system and made his major-league debut with the team in 2031.
Chicago claimed Shepard off waivers on Jan. 30, 2032.
He has split this season between AAA Charlotte and with the White Sox in the majors.
At AAA, Shepard hit .263 with three home runs and 31 RBIs in 64 games/63 starts.
With Chicago, he has hit .261 with no homers and eight RBIs in 29 games/all starts.
For his major league career, Shepard is a .239 hitting with eight home runs and 66 RBIs in 208 games/203 starts.

For the second consecutive day, the St. Louis Cardinals have completed a trade with the Chicago White Sox.
This time, they have sent outfielder Tom Mason to Chicago in exchange for outfielder Lamar Edwards Jr.
Mason, 24, comes off the major league roster, where in 14 games/eight starts, he has hit .108 with one RBIs.
At AAA Memphis, he has been much better hitting .310 with six home runs and 44 RBIs in 78 games/77 starts.
Mason has played 32 starts/42 games in the majors, and during that time has hit .223 with two homers and six RBIs.
Edwards, 26, has spent the entire season at AAA Charlotte where he has hit .231 with seven home runs and 32 RBIs in 75 games/43 starts.
He has never appeared in the majors.
