This is a less distorted sketch than the one shown on Baseball Reference. It was included along with a brief writeup of his career in the Evansville Courier and Press on August 2, 1891. Schulze was the captain of the St. Louis Browns Reserve club at the time. He played his only MLB game on August 7, 1891.

I found a sketch of Quinlan in the 1895 Lewiston, Maine team photograph. The image was published in the 5/8/1895 edition of The Lewiston Daily Sun.

I had the attached image in my files as Quinlan with Lowell. Has this image been discredited?

We had pretty much ruled the player you have attached out as the major leaguer as there were several similarly named players in the Boston area playing at the same time. Chickazoola did the following research several years ago:

Regarding the Quinlan image, I spent a lot of time on that one in the past. It's a confusing case in the least, as there are multiple Quinlans playing in the Boston area at the time. Most damningly on May 10, 1890, the Marlboro club played the Lovell Arms club and each side featured a Quinlan. Since multiple notes have Quinlan being from Marlboro, I am hesitant to definitively ID the Lovell Arms player as Quinlan. There is a Quinlan who regularly plays the outfield for Lovell Arms in 1890 and a Quinlan for the Marlboros all year as well.

So not ruling it out, but I don't think the Lovell Arms woodcut as lovely as it is, features our guy. On the plus side, Frank Quinlan did play in the minors in New England for a few years, including a full season with Pawtucket in 1892, so he wasn't just just some scrub emergency replacement, but an actual prospect. He may yet be in a team photo.

Nice work Cinemaodyssey - I found this note in the April 17, 1895 Lewiston Sun-Journal that confirms it is the major leaguer. Frank Quinlan was known to be from Marlboro, MA.

Some shots of him in the old brick colored Houston Astros uniforms that he never wore in a major league game along with some pics of him in the newer uniforms that he actually did wear in a major league game. The old ones were from spring training 2010.
