Vern Geishert 1969
Almost done with our parade of obscure Angels pitchers in the bottomless Brace pit.
Search for color of this 11-game '69 Halos pitcher and you won't find any, though a poor copy of the pitching pose has been out there awhile. Never saw the troubled portrait before.
Topps did not shoot Geishert while he was with California, though they did get him after his trade to the Reds with Pedro Borbon and Jim McGlothlin for Alex Johnson and Chico Ruiz, and they put him on a three-player 1970 rookie card. He never pitched for Cincinnati. Ever heard of the infamous deal the Giants made with Cincinnati, giving away George Foster for shortstop Frank Duffy? It wasn't as bad as it seemed. The Giants also got Geishert, who promptly said he'd had enough and quit without even pitching a game for a Giants' farm.
