Awards Not Without Controversy Only two years into the awarding of trophies for excellence in individual achievements, the League, or at least the First Division, are facing some controversy in their choices for their 1902 plaudits. Pitcher of the Year went to Edwin Burnham, and to the appearances of most deservedly so. Burnham led the Division in both wins with twenty-one, and earned runs average with 1.93, the only full season starter under two. But a vocal minority are railing against the choice, insisting that Jesse Morgan is the real pitcher of the year for the 1902 division campaign. Despite that he had four fewer wins, three more losses and a higher ERA at 2.16, his supporters point to his dominance of batsmen, to wit, leading the League in strikeouts with 126 and the fewest walks per nine innings of any pitcher, far under one. Visually, few can contest that Morgan is the superior in form and potential to Burnham, and has last year’s Pitcher of the Year trophy to back that up. But in our opinion the only truth is that results are what count, not the form displayed in getting there, and the results show Burnham to be the superior hurler in 1902. Less controversial, as it were, is the agreement among practically all in retrospect that the Newcomer of the Year Award should not have been awarded to William Buxton. The award is predicated on superior performance by a new player in the League, yet the only interpretation of the guidance for the award that one could conclude, if read to the letter, is that the honour is to go to the best player who is new to the Division, since each division hands out its own award. Buxton is new to the First Division and thus satisfies the letter of the law, as written, but since he played a full season in 1901 for the Clapton Orient club—a member of the League yet, even if not in the same division—nearly everyone agrees he is not a Newcomer in the strictest sense, and thus should not qualify, even if badly worded award protocol stipulates he should. Look for a change in the award soon, perhaps even next season.

I noticed a while back one of your players went to America...how's he doing there? Do the Major Leagues exist in this universe, albeit in the background?

Good to see another post. Did you want me to continue with your team's uniforms?
I don't know if you'd like to go with the traditional uniforms or go with something more fictional. I was using this site for referencing at least the early era.

But you don't actually play out the US major leagues, do you? Will other UK players go to America, or will Americans play in your UK league?
