Yes, and they were particularly bad against the Four Leafs. Split the season 6-6 with The Slog.

Sad to see the Atom Cats go down in defeat. Hopefully we can come back stronger next year!

After the collapse they had at the end of the regular season, I think it was a huge accomplishment to make the playoffs and then knock off the #1 seed T-51s. They can be proud of their season!

September 2296 - News and Notes - Sept 12
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 12 September 2296 - The Slog, Finch Farm Make Agreement The Slog Ghouls and the Finch Farm Four Leafs are division rivals, and their settlements are only hours apart. Therefore, the two Brotherhood League teams have agreed to play in the Sole Survivor Series on a short schedule. From a suggestion by Commissioner Nate Howard, the teams have agreed to start the series tomorrow, September 13, 2296, with the full schedule of the seven-game series looking like this: Sunday, Sept. 13 - at Finch Farm Monday, Sept. 14 - at Finch Farm Wednesday, Sept. 16 - at The Slog Thursday, Sept. 17 - at The Slog Friday, Sept. 18 - at The Slog (if necessary) Sunday, Sept. 20 - at Finch Farm (if necessary) Monday, Sept. 21 - at Finch Farm (if necessary) Since pitcher fatigue may be a factor, Howard has also agreed that the league would provide Ultra Jet for players on both teams. Players can choose if they do or do not want to take the chem, but pitchers will be encouraged to take it. Howard noted that there would only be two approved opportunities to take Ultra Jet, once on each of the off days in the series: Tuesday, September 15, and Saturday, September 19. Any players taking different chems or taking them on unapproved days will be suspended from the Sole Survivor Series. Starting pitchers will be unable to start any game on one or two days' rest. Having the first CBO Sole Survivor Series as a matchup of two teams from the same league is probably something Howard did not anticipate, but it shows the strength of the Brotherhood League. On the season, the Ghouls won 7 and the Four Leafs won 5 in their head-to-head matchups, so it is a series where the two teams will be extra motivated. Finch Farm won the Brotherhood League. A full preview of the series is coming tomorrow. In the meantime, here is the updated playoff tree for the 2296 CBO Playoffs.

2296 Playoffs - Sole Survivor Series - Preview
SEASON SERIES MATCHUPS THE SLOG TEAM PAGE FINCH FARM TEAM PAGE ANALYSIS This series provides a good opportunity for the two teams knowing each other well. Although the Four Leafs won the Brotherhood League, The Slog got the best of them, winning the last five games. Overall, Finch Farm probably has more talent, but all of the players are new to baseball at this competitive level. That means the head game is going to make a difference. The Four Leafs know they are on that long losing streak to The Slog, and a Game 1 defeat could be enough to make them hang their heads for the rest of the series. Therefore, Finch Farm needs Game 1. The Four Leafs also have the advantage on the 1-2 pitcher punch, which would go a long way towards stopping the batters for The Slog. With the aid of Ultra Jet allowed in this series, Matt Pageturner and Steve Rocky (and Montes Evans if they use him) could give the Four Leafs some relied from high-scoring games. If the Ghouls can jump on the starting pitchers early, they should be confident in winning shootouts. The Slog's offense has been potent, especially with the 1-4 hitters in C.T. Woodard, Boots Yellowhair, Millioncap Go, and Lernz Tentsleep. At the 5 and 6 spots, OK Dustin and Stoop Bugwing have also been dangerous. Therefore, the Four Leafs must shut down the Ghouls' offense. We just do not see that happening in four games needed to win the series. PREDICTION The Slog upsets the BL Champs and wins it in SIX.

Wow, that's another turn-up! But to be fair to the Ghouls, once the series got under way, they never looked like losing. Congratulations to everyone at The Slog!

September 2296 - News and Notes - Sept 20-21
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 20 September 2296 – Nicholson Takes Screwdriver to Gun Fight University Point Deathclaws first baseman Jeremy Nicholson had a good year on the baseball field. He probably should be a little smarter off it. While out drinking with friends at Gwinnett Restaurant in South Boston, Nicholson and his friends got into a verbal dispute with other patrons of the restaurant. Words were exchanged and the two groups of idiots stepped outside. Instead of knuckle punching each other and drinking away the pain, Nicholson decided to pick up a screwdriver and threaten one of the idiots from the group of idiots. That idiot, identified as Samjohn McNasty, answered by pulling out a 10mm handgun and shooting Nicholson in the leg. One group of idiots including McNasty ran off but were apprehended later by Minutemen patrols. The other group of idiots tended to their bleeding friend Nicholson. Nicholson was later taken to The Castle to receive emergency medical treatment. The bullet punctured his artery and he had to be kept alive through surgery. McNasty is also at The Castle in a lockup cell. He will have his hearing sometime this week. 21 September 2296 - Personnel List Released, Minor League Announcement Next Weekend The CBO Front Office has released a full personnel list today, with teams starting negotiations either in person in Diamond City or through the ESAU system. Each of the 24 teams in the CBO will hire a total of 10 personnel for the 2297 season, starting today and continuing until all staffs are full. The positions hired are as follows: general manager, manager, bench coach, pitching coach, hitting coach, scouting director, team trainer/doctor, minor league manager, minor league pitching coach, and minor league hitting coach. In addition to a full staff, the CBO office is releasing its full scouting document for teams to use while they continue to get their front offices in order. There has also been word that the CBO has expanded looking for players outside the Commonwealth, but not all will be available for scouting and analysis until after the draft. At that time, the CBO would hold a random draw of adding talent to rosters. With the addition of a minor league system, the fear is that there may not be enough talent to populate the entirety of the minor leagues. Commissioner Nate Howard has stated, though, that he would find talent somewhere, even if he had to cross the country to do it. One bit of speculation is that there have been random leagues popping up near Bradberton and Nuka World. Should there be developing talent there, Howard would find a way to get them in the league. As of now, though, there are currently 144 draft-eligible players who registered from Commonwealth-area youth leagues and travel ball squads. The league will unveil its entire minor league system before the start of the CBO Parade to be held on Saturday. Featured in the parade will be the CBO champions, The Slog Ghouls, who took the Sole Survivor Series over the Finch Farm Four Leafs.

Association Blues #...3?
I loved the idea of the association in OOTP and have used it through most of my dynasties, but I would like a lot more to be on autopilot in coming seasons. Another problem with the association and having four separate leagues is a limitation of sorts. I wanted to use it because of the schedule, but I may just make my own schedule in the future and fuse all separate leagues into one big league with separate schedules. OR maybe the Corvega Plant and ArcJet systems can make breakthroughs and we can have some mass transit in the Commonwealth soon. Then teams can travel place to place every single day. Anyway, when selecting awards, I was limited to voting in one league, which means that three other leagues will be AI selected and will NOT choose my custom award, which is unique per league. I can manually select award winners, but I would love to see how the AI interprets the same data. Anyway, for what I want, I'll just manually vote and then next season change the manual award to something different.

I thought they may take the series, but I really thought in 7 before 5. Still, The Slog dominated Finch Farm late in the season. The Ghouls ended up winning 9 of their last 10 against the Leafs.

It was a terrific first season. A really imaginative project, incredibly well realised and written with real flair. Thanks for sharing it with the community - and good luck through the off-season!

Some Offseason Organization
This is my offseason to-do list. I'll add to it if necessary.
In no particular order: CHECK 1. Check that teams are hiring a full staff. Currently, I simmed a few days and they have! Story coming. CHECK 2. Check that the draft order is populating correctly. It should be the worst regular season record in the CBO first to the best choosing last, so Shaw HS is first overall, Jamaica Plain second, Nordhagen Beach 6th, Oberland/Warwick 23rd and 24th. If it does not work as expected, then Association Blues #next. I will probably then have a good reason to move to one league sooner than later. 3. Roll dice for October-March for random events. (CHECK Oct-Nov) 4. Work on (and possibly post) stories around the Commonwealth. Like the Historian's offseason business did but maybe more story-driven. 5. Create the post-draft players to fill out minor league rosters. 6. Create banners (as needed) for The Slog and for all stadiums. 7. Try to find some more good settlement builds around the internet so that I can feature my dynasty settlements that are not actually settlements in the Fallout 4 game. 8. Change JP Treasures to the Red Rockets maybe January 1? CHECK 9. Figure out what I want to do about the awards problem. Post award winners. Choose CBO Team.

September 2296 - News and Notes - Sept 25
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 25 September 2296 - Personnel Carousel in Full Swing When County Crossing owner Doc Weather petitioned the league in July to allow a full coaching staff, he probably did not anticipate that the Commonwealth Baseball Organization would give the go-ahead and turn it up a notch. Not only did CBO Commissioner Nate Howard approve a coaching staff, but he decided it was worth the invested caps to give each team what he called a full front office, which includes coaches, scouts, a team doctor/trainer, and a general manager. Howard said it would take pressure off the owners not to have to micromanage and help eliminate the gaps for the teams whose owners are not active, like the Jamaica Plain Treaures were under Smiling Larry. As of the offseason, Kasumi Nakano has taken over ownership of the Jamaica Plain franchise. This week, Howard unleashed the mutant mutts and opened all personnel to joined the personnel carousel, and some teams have been active, including Weathers' Bloodbugs. Several teams already had a manager for their team, and all but Jamaica Plain retained their manager; the Treasures demoted Squirt Becker to their minor league squad. No team will be allowed to use a player-coach starting the 2297 season. Some teams have been slow to sign personnel. Diamond City owner Moe Cronin said he feels as though he knows a lot more than most of the coaches on the carousel. He hired his friend and drinking buddy Tommy Doddy to be the general manager with hopes that together they can better vet the list and pick a staff their happy with. On the other hand, Weathers did not wait to fill his staff, hiring all 10 positions already. The first person he hired was Dr. Jix Thompson, a traveling doctor who made frequent trips through County Crossing for medical supplies and chems. Weathers said he was honored to have Dr. Thompson on board for the season. Weathers also was able to sign his first choice as manager, though he is up in years: Biff Future. Weathers feels Future's "grandfather style" will help keep the players on the right track. The rookie draft is in 10 days, so teams will probably want at least their GM, manager, and scout in place to make informed drafting decisions for their teams' needs.

September 2296 - News and Notes - Sept 26
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 26 September 2296 - Shaw HS Trades Hitman to Yao Guai for Three In an effort to add some depth to its roster, the Shaw HS Knuckle Punchers have swapped 28-year-old 3B Jon Hitman to the Fairline Hill Estates Yao Guai for 30-year-old RHP Tom Mannequin, 23-year-old reserve 3B Mike Oldtimer and 30-year-old reserve RHP Odysseus Blades. The Knuckle Punchers new GM Kyle Wolf told reporters, "We saw a chance to upgrade our ball club and took it." Hitman started all 60 games for the Knuckle Punchers in 2296, hitting .342 with three home runs and 35 RBI. He was a 12th round pick in the inaugural draft. Mannequin appeared in 13 games for Fairline Hill Estates, allowing 10 earned runs in 21 innings pitched for a 4.29 ERA. He was drafted in the 11th round by the Yao Guai. Oldtimer and Blades did not play in 2296. Oldtimer was undrafted, but Blades was drafted in the 20th round.
