Southpaws Gain Some Breathing Room in OL R65

Cary went a solid 17-10, while Port Ruppert wilted to 9-12 in the summer heat, allowing the Southpaws to put some distance between themselves and the other contenders. However the final month of the OL season will be a busy one, with enough games on tap to open possibilities for as many as eight teams. Of course the chasers would need help from the top teams, but Cary, with 19 games remaining, 12 of those on the road, and the Mundys, who play 7 of 10 as visitors, will have ample chances to stumble and open the door for another team to go on a hot run.

HelthWyzer, 7-3 in August, has a packed slated of 25 games, 14 at home. Waffletown, which moved up with a 16-9 month, has only 9 to play, but all are at the Spile. Shinbone, also 16-9, has 7 home, 9 away. Coney Island, 11-9, has 5 home, 6 away. Annandale, who were 11-9, have 9 home, 7 away. West Burlington, which slumped to 6-7, has 6 home, 5 away.

New York, among the leaders most of the season, slumped badly in August, going 6-13 and dropping from the race.

With all the above being said, of course, another solid month for Cary makes it all academic.

1) The OVR ratings should be closer (none of the other ratings are much different)

2) Based on my use of these players, Wilks is great - Worrell stinks.

I agree with all your conclusions - when I first looked at Worrell's card by itself I was shocked that he was rated an 86 whereas just looking at the numbers he doesn't seem better than even some of my Bronze relievers! And the game loves him. On my non-OL team that is doing well in Stone, the AI has made him one of my two setup guys. On Annandale, the AI has made him my closer. He's 4-7 with 23 saves (only 3 blown saves tho) and has an amazing ERA of 6.34 (to be fair to the Toddster, his FIP is 4.55).

He is the textbook example of why you can't blindly look at ratings.

I also wanted to say that given my lot in the universe, Worrell is a card I have pulled from packs on BOTH my teams...

Yes, Uncle Floyd I know and watched. I think the radio show was the Italian American Serenade.

Coffee brewing and this weeks packs are waiting to be ripped.

I finally remembered to do Challenge mode this morning and look what I got. As it turns out, Klepfer is pretty dang good. And the BAL Baines was just the icing on the cake. I got a BAL Hanley Ramirez overnight and put it on the AH at 15k+ and someone bought it. I'm definitely a seller of those BAL cards (would probably hold on to Raines and Rose). I suspect we will be able to buy them in the future for a lot less than today.

Well, I just learned that overnight, Cary Southpaws won a Perfect Draft tournament, yielding 94 RP Bobby Parnell. Now, his L10 is 100k, but I don't know how much to trust that. At any rate, I have him on the AH asking 95k, and I might be convinced to drop it to 90k for an aspiring OL team!

Nice! That one pack is better than I did opening 26 this morning.

Sadly, there is little of the Uncle Floyd Show left to find as they were shot on video tape and the station reused the tapes due to budgetary constraints. Some years ago, I got some VHS tapes from Muggsy, who had taped quite a few of his song parodies. Was really nice to see Bruce Stringbean and Neil Yuck and the like again. I should probably dig those out and transfer them to digital before that's no longer an option. Muggsy passed away five or ten years ago. You can find more of his stuff on line than the other guys, as he did a show as Capt. Fork, among other things.

Such a wonderful array of bits and characters on that show. My friend and I used to go to his appearances at the small amusement parks that were once so ubiquitous in New Jersey. He and the others were a delightful group.

Aside to the rest of Our League - Sorry for the recent trips down memory lane, but it's what old guys do.

Another thought... maybe the OVR isn't meant to be an "average" of all other ratings - but an "additional" rating used by the AI for various decisions. That would explain why Worrell is seen as a better reliever and used as such... and Wilks is seen as an "also ran". OVR may be something totally unrelated to actual quality - or contains a value not available to us.

I don't know what the OOTP guys want to impart by the OVR concept but doesn't it stand for "Overall Rating"? As with any system that boils down a bunch of numbers to one value, it's not perfect. I think the earlier we realize that OVR is a flawed way to compare two players, the better off we are.

was THRILLED when I pulled a future legend Diamond & Perfect Diamond until I realized both were unusable in OL.

already clinched & looking at home field. I'll do my best to rep OL.

The Red Sox have improved a lot, now hovering around 10 games below .500. Not a good season, but a lot better than it started.

We're still thinking about a name change in the Sunday "offseason." The Bar Harbor Boaters, Maine Lobsters, and Bangor Bangers are some possibilities.

What I meant was, OVR can still mean "Overall" but might include some "un-viewable" variable(s). In any case, I agree we have shown that there are certain cards that are better or worse than others regardless of what OVR says.

I think the most important variable to accept is that the variable range "inside" the game can far outpace card ratings - which is actually the way it should be. This is why your BA .185 bench player can come in and hit a double to score two runs when your cleanup hitter just struck out.

But it is frustrating...

Arrow Breaking News!

Hot from the scuttlebutt wire.....

Keystone Kops are in the 11th hour of negotiations with Port Ruppert for the loan of Jobu.

With the Keystones being in such a bad position, they are willing to consider anything and everything to turn the tide in their favor.

After the unsuccessful use of a Medicine Man and a Witch Doctor, the idea of using Jobu came to light.

A person very "familiar" with the Keystone organization, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly, said the the deal may include several "Get Out Of Jail Free" cards!

Say tuned for more information as it becomes available!

I swear the game is having a laugh at me at the moment. Since I added the OL tag, my packs have been almost completely devoid of historical cards above silver. On the plus side, I suppose, I've got most of the live missions up to about 80%+. So I'm taking as much pleasure as I can from live non duplicates .

Paxville will be in Iron next week after going 99-63. With flakey defense, I wouldn't say they have much hope of a title, but who knows... Anyway, it's crowns that the Kings are interested in competing for!

Morning all, hope your teams are doing well. Annandale put on a late surge and made the playoffs so we have quite a few OL teams in the Rookie .65 playoffs.

It also appears any team in that league with a better than .500 record is getting promoted so we should have quite a few in Stone next week. Here is the first of (I'm sure) many reminders to make sure your friend lists are up to date.

To add the many Sunday reminders I ask you please remember to add Edster007a, Sugar Hill Gang for next week.

The barely hung on and will remain in Stone next week after finishing the season 67-95. They were tucked comfortably between promotion and relegation heading into August but as I started shedding lives to make the team compliant they nose dived.

Good Luck to all in the playoffs

Southpaws Leave No Doubt Who Rules OL R65

Cary sizzled at a 16-3 pace in the final month of the OL season to romp to an easy crown. Waffletown also closed strong to grab a share of second.

I grabbed a few logos and tried to smooth or sharpen the images as needed, but it would be nice for folks to post their logos, if it is new to the league. By the way Mr DanBoy, have you switched the Daytona Beach logo or shall I continue to use the be-gloved tortuga one?

PT playoff and final standing are attached. We'll, hopefully, have OL teams in the World Series, but the only two OL teams in the AC meet in the divisional round. However, one of those teams is the dominant Cary squad so there is hope for an OL World Series match up.

By the way, the promotions Charlatan posted are final, so you can go ahead and fix your friends list.. With 14 teams going to stone (seven from OL), the playoff results have no bearing on promotion.

By the way...

Here are a couple of the logos I was able to clip, and a prospective logo for consideration. If they are acceptable, please say so. I have developed generic coins (slightly like the old Topps coins) which will be use with the team name typed in for use with both OL crowns and PT playoff hardware. That said, I will cease my continuing harangue about logos after this. Got some packs to open, hopefully to pull something to challenge Cary a bit.
