This bloke would need to know how to fight with a name like that.

Ben Brown
Here is a good middleweight whose absence from the game is surprising. (If someone else has already rated him, I apologize.) Boxrec lists him as a light-heavy, but he fought all of his fights at just around 160 pounds. Ben "The Belter" Brown fought out of Atlanta from 1936 to 1946. He defeated Teddy Yarosz (twice), Paul Pirrone, Eddie (Babe) Risko, Joe Dundee, and Carmen Barth among others. Al Hostak and Tony Zale knocked him out, and he lost repeatedly to Ken Overlin. (The challenge in rating him was to get him to lose consistently to Overlin while consistently beating Yarosz, both of whom are rated 11 in the game.) Overlin is clearly better than the attached version of Brown, although he does not beat "The Belter" as regularly as he should. If anyone can tweak my ratings to achieve these results more predictably, I hope you'll post the changes. In the mean time, here is Brown. I couldn't find a picture of him.

Ben Brown
David,
I've got Ben Brown rated a 4 Middleweight. I've got i noted that this version was rated by Mark Elwood. Sure I got from somewhere here or cornerwork possibly were he'd posted it. Might ask him about his version for comparison. Rocco |

Guys;
Ben Brown was one of the middleweights I rated for my 1940s universe and included in the zip at CornerWork and the ratings group. Many more where he came from ... LOL!

Mark,
Don't know how I missed your version of Ben Brown. Sorry to have duplicated your efforts. With all due respect, though, I think my version may be a little closer to the historical fighter. According to Boxrec, Brown was 42-15-5 over his career with 23 knockouts (he himself was knocked out five times). I play-tested our two versions against every light heavyweight, middleweight, and welterweight that I've got. (Over 700 fighters at all levels.) Ben Brown, rated 9 by me, averaged 46-13-2 with 29 knockouts and seven stoppages suffered. Brown, rated 4 by you, averaged 29-29-3 with 13 knockouts and 14 stoppages suffered. For what it's worth, both of our versions lost to Ken Overlin and beat Teddy Yarosz. Perhaps 9 is a little high for Brown--there are probably not enough tomato cans and club fighters in my universe--but 4 strikes me as too low for him. What do you think?

JMW Richard Swindell (current fighter)
Richard Swindell is 33 years old with a record of 1-13-0. His one victory is via KO, and all 13 of his losses have been either KOs or TKOs. He hasn't fought anybody in TBCB.
Some people have noted the need for a lot more club-level fighters in the game, so here he is. He will lose almost all of the time against the other 1-rated JMWs in the game. Thirteen stoppages in fourteen fights...perhaps this fellow should seek another line of work.

FW Yodmongkol Sithsopha (current fighter)
Here's another young man who should probably find another job. His record is 0-6-0. Four of his losses were by stoppage. He hasn't fought anybody in TBCB. All of his fights have been in Thailand or Japan. He fought only once in 2000, 2001 and 2002, and twice in 2003. Boxrec does not list a date of birth.
Anyway, he's a 1-rated fighter to pad the records of the better fighters in your current era universes. I like researching and rating these lower level guys. I'll admit, it's not too hard. But anyway we need more guys like this in TBCB. I'll leave the more complex and skilled fighters to extremely knowledgeable fellows like Rocco, Dave, etc. Yodmongkol, please remember to protect yourself at all times.

FW Omar Vega (current fighter)
Here's yet another noble but doomed 1-rated fighter.
Omar's record is 0-4-0. He has suffered 2 KOs and 2 TKOs, all in the first or second rounds. He fought only 3 times in 2003 and once so far in 2004. His last fight was on Feb 2, 2004. He was KOd by Manuel Perez, who was making his pro debut. None of Omar's opponents are in TBCB.

Enzo Maccarinelli (active British Cruiserweight) 18-1 (13)
This is Enzo Maccarinelli, those from the States may not have seen much of him but in Britain he is regarded as one of our best Cruiserweights. He is still only 23, but he is a very hard-hitting Cruiserweight with a very big future.
Picture to use: ![]() Enzo Maccarinelli is from Swansea in Wales, though his Italian sounding name may be deceiving. His career began in 1999 with a 4 round points victory and since then he has acquired a respectable record. Maccarinelli's record is currently 18-1, with 13 knockout wins. He punches as hard as any other Cruiserweight in Britain, maybe in the world. He has a good chin, although this has not been tested by the best as yet. Many of his KO victories have come within the first 2 rounds. Maccarinelli has never fought outside of Wales and the United Kingdom, but his fanbase believes he can get to the top. Veteran Cruiserweight Johnny Nelson has been impressed with Maccarinelli's progress and already there is talk of a Nelson-Maccarinelli showdown in the future. On 3rd July 2004, Maccarinelli was taken the distance by the Belgian Ismael Abdoul who is in TBCB. This fight was a very one-sided affair, but Maccarinelli couldn't quite knock Abdoul out and easily won on all 3 scorecards. This was Maccarinelli's fourth defence of his WBU Cruiserweight Title. The only other fighter to come up against Maccarinelli that is in TBCB is Garry Delaney of the UK, who Maccarinelli dispatched of with an eighth round TKO. Finally, Enzo Maccarinelli is currently ranked 15th in the world by boxrec.com. |

Graham Earl 21-0 - British Lightweight Champion
This is Graham Earl, a talented Lightweight from Luton, England. He is the current British Lightweight Champion.
His record stands at 21-0 with 10 knockout wins. Steve Murray, who is in TBCB, was TKO'd by Earl when they met in February 2003. Earl also has two controversial victories over Bobby Vanzie, another fighter who is already in TBCB. Both times Earl and Vanzie met, it was pretty clear that Vanzie had won each fight. Bobby Vanzie has found himself in trouble for his comments after both fights, as he criticised the referee in both fights for their decision to give Earl the points victory on both occasions. Earl was no push-over in those fights however, and his talent has shown with a number of hard fought victories. He has never fought outside of the UK. On 30th July 2004, Earl will face Steve Murray for the second time at York Hall, Bethnal Green, England. I don't have a picture of him but if anyone does have one it would be great if you could post it here. Thanks. |

Anybody working on Manu Ntoh?
Has anybody rated the 36 year old 15-8-1 LHW Manu Ntoh? He fought recently on Friday Night Fights, losing a 10 round UD to Omar Sheika. I really liked his style and his attitude. He has a really hard punch, and if he had been able to catch Sheika a few more times, he might have taken him out.
I really want him for my current fighter group and have been working on rating him, but maybe one of you more knowledgeable guys would be better at it...

Good one. Some believe, if he could have stayed straight, that he would have been on the same level as Holyfield.

I'm back!
I didn't see Richie Woodhall rated anywhere, so here it goes. I watched him fight a few times and came away impressed. Also the discovery channel did a show on him and Roy Jones where they hooked up different body muscles with devices to measure speed and power. The results were that Woodhall punched 1 1/2 harder and 3 times faster than the average male his age and weight and Jones was 4 times harder and 5 times faster. I believe it was the discovery channel? The progame aired 4 or 5 years ago. Richie Woodhall 26-3 16 KOs SMW Champ 97-2000 Faught Keith Holmes for the Middleweight Title LTKOby12 in 1996. Key wins Errol McDonald TKO8 Vincenzo Nardiello TKO6 Glenn Catley MD12 Thulane Malingo UD12 Silvio Bronco TKO9 Art Serwano TKO11 Key Losses Joe Calzaghe TKO10 Markus Beyer UD12 Keith Holmes TKO12 His pic was in one of the packages on cornerwork.com
