BNN Report

News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

17 June 2312

CBO Analysis

We are right at the halfway point of the season, and, as we move from early to late June, we should start seeing teams make their moves to build for the playoffs. If a .600 winning percentage would be considered having a great year, then only three teams are at that level currently: Salem, Fort Hagen, and Roxbury. This season has more stories to tell.

Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization:

Teams (Total Points, Tendency):
1) Salem Witch Hats (119.2, o)
2) Roxbury Rad Sox (113.5, +)
3) Goodneighbor Hancocks (112.7, ++)
4) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (111.5, -)
5) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (108.7, o)
6) Egret Ninjas (104.1, ++)
7) FHE Yao Guai (103.1, +)
8) The Slog Ghouls (95.3, ++)
9) Bunker Hill 75ers (94.3, ++)
10) Starlight Killers (93.3, --)
11) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (93.2, --)
12) Cambridge Coursers (91.6, -)
13) Diamond City Swatters (91.4, --)
14) Oberland T-51s (91.3, ++)
15) Vault 81 Dwellers (91.3, ++)
16) University Point Deathclaws (88.6, ++)
17) County Crossing Bloodbugs (88.4, --)
18) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (87.6, -)
19) Quincy Gunners (82.3, ++)
20) Concord Radstags (80.9, ++)
21) Easy Town Assaultrons (80.7, o)
22) Atom Cats (78.2, +)
23) Southie Brews (76.9, -)
24) Spectacle Island Reapers (73.9, --)
25) Glowing Sea Radscorpions (73.3, o)
26) Nahant Celtics (72.8, --)
27) Malden Grognaks (71.6, -)
28) Lexington Synths (49.4, o)

If the playoffs started today, these would be the seeds:

NCA
1. Salem
2. Fort Hagen
3. Nordhagen Beach
4. Starlight (3-2 vs Bunker Hill, 2-0 vs The Slog)
5. The Slog (2-0 vs Bunker Hill)
6. Bunker Hill

SCA
1. Roxbury
2. Jamaica Plain (2-1 vs Goodneighbor)
3. Goodneighbor
4. FHE (3-2 vs Egret)
5. Egret
6. Oberland (3-2 vs Vault 81)

Brotherhood League

While no team has been outstanding in the NCA in the past two weeks, Salem continues to do what needs to be done to stay atop the Brotherhood League. At 5-5 in their last 10, only 7th-place Malden did better at 6-4. Nahant is currently on a six-game losing streak, dropping them from being back in the race to 12 games out and a 6th-place slot.

The Slog has worked their way up to 3rd place, 8 games back of the Hats but only one game back of Nordhagen Beach. Most of the Ghouls' success is due to their offense, ranked tied for 6th in runs scored (297). A few outstanding players include SS Gavin Deux-Gas (.331/19/41), CF Bill Lazarus (.324/3/19/33 SB), 1B Kilometers Davis (.317/10/47), and C Silvam Fourteen (.291/11/39).

Institute League

Fort Hagen was allowing Starlight back in the race but now ride a three-game winning streak while the Killers are on a three-game losing streak, giving the Shroud a five-game lead over Starlight and Bunker Hill. Sunshine Tidings and Cambridge are close to being in the race, while Concord and Lexington take up the rear of the Institute League.

The Killers are not content right now after winning the league two of the past three seasons and on a six-season playoff streak. In 2312, they have been good but not great compared to last season when they seemed primed to win their first championship before slipping in the NCA Championship Series. Starlight is 5th in runs scored (334) and 7th in runs allowed (304). They are surprisingly low in home runs, currently tied for 10th with 64. LF Glenn Higinbotham (.262/8/33) and C Biter Trout (.283/8/26) leade the team with eight apiece.

Minutemen League

This league is a two-team race with Jamaica Plain and Goodneighbor at the top of the standings while the rest of the league is below .500. University Point at 31-32 is the only other team that appears it is still alive for the playoffs.

The Deathclaws have seemed to fall off, but then again, we are having deja vu as though this story has been written before. The once powerful offensive team is now middle of the pack, ranking 7th in runs scored. They are still good at hitting the long ball, currently tied for 2nd in the SCA with 88. 1B Barker Cocoa (.284/20/48) is not his usual dominant self, but he does lead the SCA in four categories. Surprisingly, walks is NOT one of them, a statistic he has led the CBO in every season since 2301. SS Rock Rampage (.310/14/42/7 SB) has also hit well, along with RF Aesed Hayjen (.358.8/20/13 SB).

Railroad League

Roxbury comes in again atop the Railroad League and the SCA. FHE and Egret are tied for 2nd, while Oberland and Vault 81 are tied for 4th. In 6th place, Diamond City is very much in the playoff hunt at 32-31.

Egret started the season 0-8. Since that time, they have gone 35-20, the second-best record in the last 55 games behind Salem. The Ninjas have now jumped up the standings and statistics categories, currently 4th in runs scored (328), including 1st in stolen bases (93), and 5th in runs allowed (278). SS Austin Engill (.276/14/47/19 SB) is the only players with double digits in home runs, so the Ninjas need to improve there. 2B Justin Tootles (27) and CF Pockets Aintfull (22) lead the team in stolen bases.

CBO Standings

CBO Players of the Week

June 10 - Jig McGhee went on a week-long hitting streak against North Charles Association pitchers and captured the Player of the Week honors.

The Bunker Hill left fielder battered the opposition for 11 hits, 4 home runs, 10 RBIs and scored 10 runs. He hit .458 and posted a .519 on-base percentage.

McGhee is hitting .356 so far this season with 49 RBIs and 48 runs scored. He has 68 hits including 10 home runs, 33 walks and .445 OBP.

Esau Babz demonstrated his potential to be a star in the game last week and today he took home the South Charles Association Player of the Week Award.

The Spectacle Island left fielder wreaked havoc on opposing pitchers last week, pounding them for a .550 average (11-for-20) with 3 home runs and 6 RBIs on his way to claiming the honor.

So far this year, Babz has hit .275 with 10 home runs, 26 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

June 17 - The #1 hitter in the North Charles Association was Bunker Hill shortstop Aaron Squire. He was selected as the Player of the Week.

During the week Squire banged out a .393 batting average (11-for-28), 3 home runs, 7 RBI and scored 8 runs.

For the season, Squire has hit .294 with 16 home runs and 56 RBIs. He has played in 59 games and scored 48 times.

Shane Stabb showed his stuff this past week as the veteran rode a hot streak all the way to South Charles Association Player of the Week honors.

The 35-year-old Cats third baseman compiled a .591 average (13-for-22), 2 home runs and 4 RBIs.

Stabb is batting .346 with 9 home runs and 30 RBIs this season.

CBO Noteworthy News

June 16 - There is not much going on for accomplishments in the past two weeks, so we can mention that 2B Peter Pan Calvillo of Salem and 1B Barker Cocoa of University Point are the current votes leaders for the 2312 All-Star Game.

MML All-Star Game

All-Star Providence Warlocks' center fielder Izdere Lifunn-Mars had a night to remember.

Not only did he take the field with the game's best players, he was also a huge factor in the 5-3 Stars League victory over the Legends League All-Stars.

"We had a meeting before the game, and I was struck by the talent in the room. Old stars, young stars, it's a game I'll never forget," Lifunn-Mars said. "I talked to a few of my friends from back home, and they told me to go out and win the game for them. I'm sure they'll be thrilled."

BMU All-Star Game

Justin Lower cemented his status as one of the best in the game with his performance tonight.

"It's an honor to even be invited to the game. To be rewarded as the MVP of the game is extra special," the Massachusetts Association star said after his great showing. "Just playing on the same diamond as some of these guys is a pure treat."

In the game itself, Justin Lower certainly wasn't the only great player out there, but he did enough in the Massachusetts Association's 4-3 win over the Commonwealth Association All-Stars.

Lower boasts a career batting average of .292 with 95 hits, 25 homers and 68 RBIs.

How would you like to manage a team with more star players than you can play? It wouldn't be an easy chore. That's the dilemma facing the two managers at the annual Boston Minor Union All-Star classic -- how to get all the talented All-Stars in the game. But it's a joy for the fans -- to see all their favorite stars on one field at the same time.

Here are the official All-Star rosters:

GBRL All-Star Game

Cupper Galvan shined brightly tonight against the best talent that the GBRL has to offer.

The all-star was named MVP for the annual mid-season showcase held at Ballpark of Freight Depot, as his South League All-Stars downed the North League All-Stars by a count of 16-4.

"It's humbling to even play in a game like this with legends of the sport all around you," he said.

Galvan went 2 for 2 to capture the honor.

The North League All-Stars versus the South League All-Stars. It happens every year halfway through the season. It's a baseball spectacle for the fans and the players alike. It's the 2312 Greater Boston Rookie League All-Star Game. The fans get to see all their favorite stars perform in the same game, and the outstanding players get to play against each other. The players are out to prove that their league is the best. Players are chosen by a vote of the fans.

CYL

We are in the Commonwealth Youth Series right now with the Marblehead Mess taking on the Woodlawn Gnomes. That series will go final either tomorrow or the 20th. Once it does go final, we will report on the full playoffs. It's the first CYS for both teams.

Marblehead Sweeps Woodlawn for CYL Title

And that was all she wrote on the 2312 Commonwealth Youth Series. With a 11-1 victory, the Marblehead Mess swept aside the Woodlawn Gnomes 2-0 and set off a much-anticipated celebration.

"It was a lot of hard work," said winning manager Jose Mora. "But it was good hard work and a lot of fun along the way."

The Mess were all business this year, with their eyes fixed squarely on the goal of winning the team's 1st championship. The champs finished the regular season 41-27 and claimed second place in the North Region Paul Revere Division.

"We had our doubters along the way," series MVP Everton Elwell said with a smile. "But we made them eat crow today."

It is now trade month as we can start determining which teams have realistic shots at the playoffs and which teams should look to the future. In our individual leagues, we will look at a few player on the pretenders teams that could make an impact down the stretch. As we stand now, 14 of the CBO's 28 teams are above .500 and 12 are below .500 with only two teams--Salem and Roxbury--winning more than 60% of their games and only two teams--Lexington and Malden--losing more than 60% of their games.

Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization:

Teams (Total Points, Tendency):
1) Salem Witch Hats (123.4, +)
2) University Point Deathclaws (113.0, ++)
3) Goodneighbor Hancocks (109.6, +)

10) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (99.2, --)
11) Oberland T-51s (95.7, --)

27) Spectacle Island Reapers (63.4, --)
28) Lexington Synths (51.5, o)

Brotherhood League

Salem continues to cook in the 2312 season, now four games up on the CBO's best record. The Witch Hats are winning nearly 2 out of every 3 games on the season and currently are tied with County Crossing for the best record in the last team in the CBO at 8-2. Only University Point at 9-1 has been better. The Slog and Nordhagen Beach are tied for 3rd place with 40 wins apiece.

Nahant won the BL in 2311, but the Celtics are currently in 5th place at 35-41 with a huge dropoff in productivity in 2312. As of today, the Celtics are 8th in runs scored (349) and 11th in runs allowed (391). 3B Diamond Ball (.338/24/65) has not been the problem on offense, which is the 2nd-best team at stealing bases with 110. Part of the problem has been hitters 5-8, where C Stuart Costantino (.254/1/18) is the only hitter hitting over .250. The top two starters--Zack Million (5-2, 3.45) and Astro Puptent (3-5, 3.56) have been decent, but the bullpen has been terrible with only Old Glory Radcliffe (2-1, 2.87) pitching decently out of the bullpen.

Looking at teams like Nahant, Easy Town, and Malden, it may be time to start looking to the future and how they can deposit unneeded players for some future help.

For the Celtics, they may want to consider moving one of the 28-year-old starters in Million or Puptent. They also could look to deliver a still-decent 34-year-old LF Boots Yellowhair for a team needing depth in the outfield.

Easy Town has a lot of talent in the minors right now. A starting point would be to consider moving 1B/OF Baktu DaWell in his 30th year. The seven-time all-star has been productive, batting .349/12/39/4 SB, but the Assaultrons could turn his star power into a number of useful prospects.

Malden is still years away, so they may have to give up their one "star" in 1B Andy Stamey (.278/5/26). We're not sure what they could get for him. The reality is that the Grognaks need time to develop their own talent, which will be the beginning of their turning point as a franchise.

Institute League

Fort Hagen has not been blowing any team out of the league with their power, but they still have been able to maintain the IL lead for most of the season. Bunker Hill has made a bit of a move up, including recently sweeping Starlight, to grab 2nd place with Sunshine Tidings sitting in 3rd place at .500.

Concord has been the IL's hottest team, going 7-3 in their last 10 to technically be back in the race. The Radtsags are the NCA's top pitching team, allowing an NCA-low 329 runs and the best Starters ERA (3.24). While their records are not impressive, all four starters have an ERA of 3.58 or below: Leyden Aigg (5-9, 3.58), Chad Nailgun (5-6, 2.68), Mel Gorgeous (6-5, 3.42), and Fio Treelover (8-6, 3.10). On offense, though, Concord is badm ranking 11th with 326 runs scored. Only two players have been particularly impressive on offense: CF Duff Fee (.320/15/42/27 SB) and second-year 2B Greenthumb Gray (.298/21/46). With the acquisition of 1B Hax Kim (.314/7/29) in a trade with Vault 81, the Stags have one more big bat to wreak havoc for the second half of the season.

Cambridge and Lexington appear to be the only sellers in the IL with the Coursers not really out of the playoff hunt but not likely to get in it either. Cambridge is a young team that has several players who look to be close to busting out, so we most certainly do not propose busting up the entire team. One player that could get some interest to add some more talent is 19-year-old 1B Front Flash Gordon (.189/3/7). With 1B Jimmy-James Sessoms, the 5th-overall pick in 2311, probably set to be the long-term solution, Gordon could grab a pitcher or a middle-infield prospect.

Minutemen League

Goodneighbor has been able to maintain its lead over Jamaica Plain with a two-game led. As mentioned earlier, the Deathclaws are the CBO's hottest team, currently on an eight-game winning streak to push themselves just four games back of the Hancocks. No other team is considered to be a contender in 2312.

Spectacle Island is the most disappointing of the ML teams, sitting in a 6th-place tie with Atom and tied with Glowing Sea for the SCA's worst record. Hoping to build on just missing the playoffs in 2311 after finishing 69-61, the Reapers are on pace to have their worst seasons since 2304 when they finished with a .367 winning percentage. Few players have stood out, but 1B Zod Gaycey (.309/18/53) has been the most productive on offense. Rookie LF Esau Babz (.274/12/33) has looked good in his jump straight from the CYL to the CBO. SP Chris Teddybear (6-3, 4.25) has been the best pitcher.

Along with Spectacle Island, Southie, Quincy, and Atom are all out of the playoff race for now and should make moves while they can. For the Reapers, they should look to move some veterans, especially 1B Homestay Lovetap (.373/6/18) who has been relegated to the bench this season after being one of the top home run hitters over the past nine seasons with 31 being his previous career low. In fact, we are pretty sure that the Reapers have intended to move him all season. Other veterans they could offload include Teddybear, RF Dan Squirrel, C Knicker Trout, and injured SP Jalep Temper.

Southie's oldest player on the CBO players is a tie among three 27-year-olds in RP ugly Ed Baker, RP V108 Robinson, and LF Pudding Ohnderitz. The Brews should stay put unless they want to consider positional trades in the minors.

Quincy's team appears to be going nowhere fast with an aging team and few eligible veterans for helping other teams. RF Baywatch Fischler (.267/3/19) is probably the most talented player that they could get something for, and the Gunners have seemed to indicate that he can be had.

Atom is also a team with few overall veteran prospects that seem desirable. 3B Shane Stabb (.342/11/36) is still productive at 35 years old. Cats fans may rebel if they get rid of one of their favorite players, but he would probably return the most talent.

Railroad League

Roxbury has had a few struggles this week but still holds a lead in the league. FHE, Egret, and Vault 81 have all made some progress in making it a league race, trailing by 2, 3, and 5 games, respectively. Oberland and Diamond City are trailing right behind those three teams for six teams in the playoff race.

The Swatters thought they may have something going on in 2312 but have faded in the past six weeks. Part of that fade is having the SCA's worst offense, ranking 14th in runs scored (309) while ranking 1st in runs allowed (288). In other words, Diamond City needs to win low-scoring games, but they are just 10-19 in one-run games without that additional run support. The reason Diamond City has been successful is to have the SCA's best Starters (1st at 3.17 ERA): SP Paul Stains (8-6, 2.50), Phil Pearlman (8-6, 3.97), Macho Lopez (6-5, 3.24), and Aldo Sanch (6-6, 3.09). RF Magnum Peaeye (.284/24/62) is the offensive star. Second-year C Cole Spice (.315/11/46) has been good, too.

At 31-45, the Glowing Sea Radscorpions are probably ready to sell. Like the other expansion teams, though, the Scorpions are still thin across their franchise and will need time to build up their team. A couple veterans that could bring in some extra talent include C Garth Invader and 3B Quay Swimmer. However, we are not expecting trading those two players away to get much more potential. Like Southie, we think that Glowing Sea should pretty much hold steady.

CBO Standings

CBO Players of the Week

June 24 - Veteran Babs Rooth had a great week at the plate for the Bloodbugs to capture the majority of votes for Player of the Week in the North Charles Association.

The 33-year-old County Crossing right fielder built a .556 average on the strength of 15 hits in 27 at-bats, 7 home runs and 13 RBIs.

So far this season, Rooth is hitting .373 with 26 home runs.

The South Charles Association made it official today: Purple Gupta is the Player of the Week.

He really stood out on the diamond this week with a .545 average to take home the award. The Roxbury shortstop went 12-for-22, drove in 14 runs, scored 6 times and hit 1 home run.

Thus far this season, Gupta is hitting .279 with 7 home runs, 44 RBIs and 37 runs scored. He has 68 hits in 244 at-bats and has played in 69 games.

July 1 - Hax Kim demonstrated his potential to be a star in the game last week and today he took home the North Charles Association Player of the Week Award.

The Concord catcher wreaked havoc on opposing pitchers last week, pounding them for a .667 average (12-for-18) with 3 home runs and 8 RBIs on his way to claiming the honor.

Thus far this year, Kim is hitting .314 with 7 home runs, 29 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

His hard work and hustle paid off this week. The hard-working and hard-playing Sebastian Lort was rewarded with the South Charles Association Player of the Week honors.

The scrappy FHE Yao Guai right fielder hit .769 while collecting 10 hits in 13 at-bats, 1 home run and 9 RBIs.

In his 2312 season totals, Lort has 9 home runs, .361 BA, .378 OBP, 41 RBIs and 43 runs scored.

CBO Players of the Month

NCA Hitter - Jig McGhee battered North Charles Association pitchers all June and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Commonwealth Baseball Organization long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 30-year-old McGhee told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 27 games, McGhee hit .446 with 9 home runs, 28 RBIs and scored 25 runs.

In the 2312 season McGhee is hitting .369 with 14 home runs.

SCA Hitter - To survive in the bigs, you've got to be a scrapper like Barker Cocoa. It never pays to take a day off from the batting cages or to shrug off the advice of the hitting coach. It all paid off today as University Point's first baseman pinned down the South Charles Association Batter of the Month trophy today.

He hit .320 in June collecting 10 home runs, 26 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

This season, Cocoa is batting .303 with 81 hits and 27 home runs. He has scored 65 times and has 65 RBI.

NCA Pitcher - When Fio Treelover takes the hill, chances are good for a Concord victory. At least that's the way it was in May.

He excelled with a 6-1 mark and 2.09 ERA in 7 starts, tossed 43 innings, fanned 19 and held others clubs to a .213 average.

That's why the Radstags star was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the North Charles Association.

Treelover has started 16 times this year, pitched 90 innings, fanned 53 batters and walked 33. His current record is 8 wins and 6 losses with a 3.10 ERA.

SCA Pitcher - Paul Stains certainly found a groove in June. The Diamond City starter posted 4 wins last month to easily claim the South Charles Association Pitcher of the Month.

During the month Stains was 4-0 with a 1.38 ERA. He made 6 starts, tossed 45.2 innings and had 29 strikeouts.

This season, Stains shows a 8-6 record in 19 games, 140.2 innings, 90 strikeouts, and a 2.50 ERA.

NCA Rookie - Campy Madrid's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Lexington left fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In June he was voted the Rookie of the Month.

During the month he hit .359 with 6 doubles, 2 triples and 4 home runs. Madrid also scored 15 times and drove in 14 runs.

Madrid is hitting .357 this year with 5 home runs, 18 RBIs and 17 runs scored. He has 40 hits in 112 at-bats, 1 walk and a .365 on-base percentage. Madrid has played in 29 games.

SCA Rookie - Last month Frank Heart overwhelmed South Charles Association clubs and nailed down 4 victories.
Today the Jamaica Plain starter was awarded the league's Rookie of the Month trophy.
He was acclaimed for his outstanding performance during the month of June.

Heart soared through the SCA with 4 wins and 2 losses and a 3.74 ERA. He struck out 25 in 33.2 innings and other clubs to a .246 average.

To date this year, in 19 starts, Heart has crafted a 6-5 mark with a 4.22 ERA.

CBO Noteworthy News

June 20 - CBO Updated Propects List: With the mid-season mark upon us, now is a great time to update the pre-season BNN Top 100 Prospect list with what we have learned to this point. This year, 19 year-old 3B Tommy Whitetiger of the Lexington Synths is the #1 prospect overall.

Here is the top 10:
1) 3B Tommy Whitetiger, 19, Lexington Synths
2) 2B Duff Cooly, 20, Concord Radstags
3) LF Campy Madrid, 18, Lexington Synths
4) SS Geralt Rivia, 20, Lexington Synths
5) RHP Gary Harvard, 20, Diamond City Swatters
6) LHP Melvin Terminator, 18, Atom Cats
7) RHP Jared Porch, 18, FHE Yao Guai
8) 2B Will Hell, 19, Quincy Gunners
9) LHP Kevin Gauzeman, 18, Quincy Gunners
10) LHP Freon McMahan, 21, Cambridge Coursers

June 23 - "I tried to approach this game like it was just another day, but when I walked out there on the mound, it was different," said Oberland star reliever William Butcherman. "I'm supposed to have ice water in my veins, but not today. It felt like my first day on the mound in my rookie season."

It certainly was different. Butcherman was about to try for his milestone 300-th career save and put his name in the record book.

As he has endless times before, Butcherman rose to the occasion and disposed of the FHE Yao Guai to save the T-51s 8-5 victory, allowing no runs and 1 hit in 1 innings of work.

Butcherman has appeared in 553 games in his career and put together a record of 46 victories and 44 losses, 3.31 ERA and 300 saves. He has thrown 600.2 innings, struck out 599 and walked 324.

June 27 - Sebastian Lort truly did it all at BosCom Circle.

The FHE Yao Guai right fielder hit for the cycle -- collecting 1 single, 1 double, 1 triple and 1 home run -- as he paced his club to victory, 6-5, over the Roxbury Rad Sox.

"You know that sweet sound you hear when you hit the ball just right? I heard that every time today," Lort said later. "It was a heck of a feeling."

It was a game good enough for him to make a little history. He bombed Roxbury pitching for 4 hits in 4 at-bats and his name will now go into the record books. Lort also racked up 4 RBI and 1 run scored in the game.

Sebastian Lort hit a three-run double in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, tripled in the 5th and hit a solo-shot off Justin Hale in the 7th.

To date Lort has chalked up a .359 average with 9 home runs, driven in 40 runs and scored 43 times.

BNN Report

News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

The July Super Post, Part 2

MML Analysis

We are now in the final month of the 2312 MML season with the following divisional leaders: Abernathy Adamantium, Finch Farm Shamrocks, Worcester Cannons, and Branitree Robobrains. The Shamrocks have the biggest lead of 10 games, making their Magic # 19 games with 28 to play.

MML Players of the Month

LL Hitter - Knife Bowie hoped June never ended. The Clifton star was hot throughout the month and the first baseman's .357 batting average has led him to Legends League Batter of the Month honors.

Also on the month, he posted a .438 on-base percentage and had 15 home runs, 36 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

A look at his current stats shows Bowie with a .370 average, 16 home runs, 38 RBIs and 27 runs scored. He has played in 24 games.

SL Hitter - For a rookie just breaking in, Slammin' Sammy Holloway certainly put together a successful month. It was good enough to win the SL Batter of the Month award for June.

The 20-year-old third baseman for the Braintree Robobrains hit .429 with 18 home runs, 48 RBIs and 28 runs scored.

So far this season, Holloway has 34 home runs and a .409 batting average.

LL Pitcher - The top pitcher this past month in the Legends League was Awright Capecod of the Medford Radguards. He really bewildered league hitters, finishing June with an excellent 5-0 record and 2.45 ERA.

The Radguards hurler made 5 starts and surrendered 31 hits in 33 innings. He struck out 24 and walked 9.

So far this season, Capecod has a record of 8-1 with 57 strikeouts and 26 walks in 69.2 innings and a 2.84 ERA.

BMU Analysis

The BMU season is winding down but no teams have a single-digit Magic Number at this point. League leaders are the Covenant Refractors, Sanctuary Hills Zetans, Neponset Park Criticals, and Mayoral Shelter Tricentennials.

BMU Players of the Month

CA Hitter - Hey Jay Skinnt made his presence known as one of the best young stars in the Commonwealth Association this past month.

The Fiddler's Green T-60s second baseman shined through the month of June and has won the Batter of the Month award.

The 21-year-old hit .386 with 12 home runs, 28 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

In the current season, Skinnt has put up a .366 batting average with 63 hits, 25 home runs, 47 runs batted in and scored 44 runs.

MA Hitter - Charles View Cannibals fans may just have witnessed a star player blossoming before their eyes in June.

Nest Morfa put up a remarkable month at the age of 24 and has been named the Massachusetts Association Batter of the Month.

For the month, Morfa hit .382 with 12 home runs, 27 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

So far this year, Morfa has hit .301 with 24 home runs, 55 RBIs and 48 runs scored.

CA Pitcher - The Winchester Bashers celebrated today after the news filtered through the clubhouse that Chris Brahmin had been selected as June's Commonwealth Association Pitcher of the Month. Brahmin's zest for the game has been a frequent topic on the sports pages and his numbers of late have made his fans even more enthusiastic.

"Our coaching staff really helps me prepare well," Brahmin said, "and the fans feed off good pitching. Your pitches just seem to have that extra pop to them when the fans are behind you and you feel confident you can get outs."

Brahmin tossed 47 innings last month, holding opponents to a .189 average while striking out 38 batters. In 7 starting assignments he came away with a 5-0 record, putting together an ERA of 1.15.

This season, Brahmin has a 7-5 record with a 2.44 ERA.

MA Pitcher - Qazal Mabry is the latest Massachusetts Association Pitcher of the Month award winner. The Charles View starter shone on the hill repeatedly last month and finished June with a sparkling 5-0 record.

In 5 starts he tossed 38 innings, posted 23 strikeouts, and put up a 2.13 ERA.

This year in 17 starts, Mabry has recorded 13 wins and absorbed 3 losses. He has pitched 117.2 innings, allowed 114 hits, struck out 83 and has a 2.83 ERA.

GBRL Analysis

One team is close to clinching their division in the 2312 season, while the other three division leaders have to win a few more games. The Union Hope Lifegivers have a 14-game lead, giving them a Magic # of 3. Other leaders at the Med-Tek Eyebots, DB Tech Nuclear Physicists, and Greater Mass Vans.

GBRL Players of the Month

NL Hitter - Even though he is a newcomer to Greater Boston Rookie League, Shin Adachi put up some good numbers in June and earned the NL Batter of the Month award.

He was one of Coastal Cottage's offensive leaders with a .368 average in 24 games. He also racked up 9 home runs, 25 RBIs, and 21 runs scored.

This year, Adachi is batting .279 with 11 home runs and 44 RBIs. In 52 games he has scored 34 times.

SL Hitter - Huge Hugh Testerman has a lot going for him. The Cabot House left fielder just broke into the majors this year and now the South League has just picked him as its top hitter for June.

In 26 games this season, Testerman has compiled a .361 batting average with 30 hits and 18 home runs. He has also scored 31 times and knocked in 39 runs.

NL Pitcher - There was little doubt around the North League that Tiny de Grande would be awarded Pitcher of the Month honors for June. Today, they made it official, naming the 18-year-old Coastal Cottage Buds starter the latest honoree.

He thoroughly dominated the hitters who stood in against him, holding them to a .139 batting average while fashioning a 2.15 ERA in 7 starts. His record for the month was 5-0 in 46 innings of work.

This year, de Grande has worked 101.2 innings with 116 strikeouts en route to a 10-2 record and 1.95 ERA.

SL Pitcher - Freight Depot starter Hot Lips Houlihan claimed the South League Pitcher of the Month Award today with his strong performance in June.

The 18-year-old starter tossed 49 innings of solid baseball, putting up a 0.92 ERA, 53 strikeouts and a 4-0 record in 6 starts.

This season, Houlihan has compiled a 11-3 mark with a 2.01 ERA in 16 starts.

CCBL Awards

Hitter - The future looks extremely bright for Finnan Hunt. At the age of 19, many players are still trying to find their way in Commonwealth Collegiate Baseball League.

Hunt has not only found his way, he's already established himself as one of the game's brightest stars, today being named the winner of the Commonwealth Collegiate Baseball League Top Collegiate Hitter Award.

"I didn't expect to hit .472 this year, that's for sure," the shortstop said.

The Stonehill College Skyhawks star also put up a .571 on-base percentage this year, with 108 hits, 18 doubles, 10 triples, 4 home runs, 19 RBIs and 71 runs scored.

State of Minor League Baseball

There are still lots of details to iron out, but the 2313 season will bring some more big changes to the way baseball operates in the Commonwealth. Here are a few things we now know:

The CBO will add a fourth minor league that it plans to take over as the AAA league. There are some new teams coming in for the highest league, which will be called the New England Baseball League (NEBL). That means the MML will drop down to the AA level, the BMU will be at the A level, and the GBRL will remain at the Rookie level. None of the MML, BMU, or GBRL have plans to change their league names.

Some of the teams expected to join the NEBL are in settlements including Fall River, Greenfield, Lawrence, and Haverhill in Massachusetts. Outside of Massachusetts, the NEBL is seeking new locations in Manchester (NH), Hartford (CT), and Pawtucket (RI).

More details will emerge as the CBO determines where current teams are and what leagues some current teams may move to. The CBO has also taken over ownership of the Bradberton Boys League and Maine Youth Leagues. Commissioner Nate Howard has indicated that players from those teams may find sponsorships in the Boston area to join teams there. Otherwise, those two leagues are expected to fold either at the conclusion of this season or next season.

The Season Pass Association is also considering downgrading its minors with the possibility of folding the rookie leagues. The CBO has been making purchasing deals with many of the team names throughout the current Season Pass Association with plans that many of those team names will make their way to the minors and Commonwealth Youth League.

We will continue to report on this developing story as the CBO is working on its monopoly for baseball in the former New England Commonwealth.

Nuka News Update

Reporting on the NWL, APL, NWLR, and BBL Leagues

by Evan Guy

1 July 2312

Quantum, Cherry Continue to Lead

Another month of the NWL is now complete, and the Quantum Nukalurks and Cherry Ghoulrillas continue to lead their divisions in the race for the 2312 Nuka Series. Both teams were the preseason favorites to win their divisions.

The Nukalurks are still dominating on defense, allowing a league-low 182 runs with the best Starter ERA (3.56) and Bullpen ERA (3.47). SP Cameron Biehler (10-1, 1.88) has been dominant all season, and CL Christiansen Mandelbrot (2 SV, 1.50) has been good in his new role with regular CL Tummy Urchin (18 SV, 4.71) out for the season.

Cherry has been the NWL's top offensive team, leading in runs scored (255) along with most other categories. LF Everlast Barron (.385/14/33) has stood out the most, with contributions from RF Genius Jerry Kordic (.359/9/35/7 SB), 1B Swamp Dantin (.377/7/32), and 2B Tick Garrett (.340/8/41).

The NWL is on its All-Star break, so let's give that story, too: How would you like to manage a team with more star players than you can play? It wouldn't be an easy chore. That's the dilemma facing the two managers at the annual Nuka World League All-Star classic -- how to get all the talented All-Stars in the game. But it's a joy for the fans -- to see all their favorite stars on one field at the same time.

For players of the month, Quantum Nukalurks fans believe they've got a talented young star in Jukie Robbins.

He did nothing to dissuade that notion in June, as he hit .441 with 3 home runs, 14 RBIs and 28 runs scored.

The end result was the right fielder being named the Nuka World League Batter of the Month.

Looking at his stats this year, Robbins has compiled a .396 batting average, while hitting 4 home runs and driving in 31 runs. He has played in 48 games and scored 42 runs.

In June, when the name of Shoestring Caravelli appeared on the Orange lineup card it was a virtual lock on a victory. He started 6 times and chalked up 5 wins and no losses. With those stats it was also a virtual lock that he would be named the Nuka World League Pitcher of the Month.

Caravelli shackled opposing batters on 39 base hits and a .271 batting average. He rang up 23 strikeouts in 38.2 innings of work, surrendered 10 walks and fashioned a sparkling 2.33 ERA.

This season, Caravelli has 6 wins and 2 losses and a 3.21 ERA.

Everlast Barron of the Cherry Ghoulrillas has been chosen the top Rookie in the Nuka World League.

In June he racked up 37 hits, 10 home runs, 24 RBIs and 23 runs scored. He hit .359 with a .374 OBP.

Barron is batting .385 with 14 home runs and 33 RBIs this season.

In the Amusement Park League, the Bradberton Disciples and Nuka Town Operators have slight leads. The Operators have the APL's top record at 18-12, while the Kiddie Kingdom Cappies are the worst team at 12-18, showing that the league is close from top to bottom.

Fisher Ryba put together a good June to earn the Amusement Park League Batter of the Month prize. A virtual unknown, he made the most of his chance to prove to Bradberton officials that he belongs on the big league roster.

The Disciples shortstop posted a .339 batting average with 9 home runs, 20 RBIs and 12 runs scored.

Bighair Harrington of Grandchester excelled on the mound in June with a 3-1 record and was named the Pitcher of the Month in the Amusement Park League.

Harrington restricted opposing batters to 54 base hits and a .274 batting average. He rang up 32 strikeouts in 51 innings of work, surrendered 11 walks, and fashioned a 2.82 ERA.

We have now found out this is the last season of the NWLRL, which will fold following the season. Currently, the Nuka Jolly Elves and Hubologist Camp Barkers are in control of their divisions.

Mox Burtolemey may be much younger than other hitters in the NWL Rookie League, but he performed like a seasoned veteran in June to win the Batter of the Month award.

The 18-year-old Dunmore left fielder hit .333 with 10 home runs, 23 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

The Pitcher of the Month Award has been announced and the NWL Rookie League winner is Northpoint Reservoir hurler, Blasphemy Perez. For his fine efforts in June he has been named the league's #1 pitcher.

During the month, Perez excelled with a 1.78 ERA and 2 wins and no losses. In 25.1 innings he struck out 29 and gave up 17 hits and 19 walks.

Also in its final year, at least in this iteration, the Bradberton Boys League season is now final. We have reported the final regular season standings below.

A celebratory mood filled the air as the Fizztop Mountain Conquerors closed out the season with a 10-9 victory over the Forest Park Brahmiluffs at The Brahm Pasture at Springfield to capture the Bradberton Boys Series, 2-1.

Giving the Brahmiluffs credit for a hard-fought series, Conquerors players said they believed throughout the postseason that their "destiny" was to be crowned Bradberton Boys League champions.

"We felt like this was our year all season long," said second baseman Bucket Corbett, who was named series MVP. "It was our destiny to win it and we did."

It was the 6th in franchise history. During the West Division regular season Fizztop Mountain put up a 28-15 record and finished first.

"They're the champions and they deserve it," said a dejected Forest Park manager Bugs Villar. "We played good ball, they just played better than us."

With back-to-back championships for the third time in BBL history, the Conquerors finish as the all-time best BBL team. We plan to feature the all-time bests for this league later, but for now, let's name the BBL's two all-time best players: Ol Sugartop's 1B Rush Clovis and mad Mulligan's SP Rude Rube Waddell.

Clovis, the #1 overall pick in the SPA's 2305 Rookie Draft, finished his BBL career tops in average (.371), OBP (.452), SLG (.966), OPS (1.417), hits (216), total bases (562), home runs (108), RBI (180), and WAR (13.51).

Waddell was the #1 overall pick in the 2310 Rookie Draft. He is the BBL's all-time leader in wins (16), IP (217.0), and WAR (9.81).

Far Harbor Maintains Lead, Dalton Farm-National Park Tied

Last month, both the Dalton Farm Fog Crawlers and Far Harbor Ghoul Whales were in charge of the Fog and Harbor divisions, respectively. While the Ghoul Whales have maintained their lead, up four games over Cranberry Island, the Fog Crawlers have faded to fall into a tie with National Park.

No team in the Vim! League seems particularly dominant. If we look at runs scored and allowed only, the top offensive team is Cranberry Island (282), which dominated in most offensive categories but is dead last in runs allowed (291), and the top pitching team is Eden Meadows (219), which is dead last in most offensive categories, including runs scored (191).

Not known for his offensive prowess, Mack Triggerfinger set the league afire in June and took home the Vim! League Batter of the Month award.

The Cranberry Island right fielder posted a steady .394 batting average, 8 home runs, 25 RBIs and 27 runs.

For the year, Triggerfinger is batting .379 with 14 home runs, 46 RBIs and 49 runs scored.

In June, the elite pitcher in the Vim! League was Riff Tamson, thanks to some great numbers coming out of the bullpen.

The Grand Hotel relief specialist posted a 4-0 mark and an ERA of 1.05 in 25.2 innings with 26 strikeouts and 5 saves in 5 save opportunities.

This season, Tamson has crafted a 4-4 won-lost mark, pitched in 10 relief appearances and rung up 5 saves. He has a 4.14 ERA and has allowed 66 hits over his 54.1 innings of work, struck out 42 batters and walked 14.

Bryce Shea earned June's Rookie of the Month honors in the Vim! League for last month's performance. The boyish Echo Lake first baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Shea hit .368 with 9 home runs, 23 RBIs and 16 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

Shea is batting .339 this season in 46 games with 14 home runs, 39 RBIs and 29 runs scored. He has 64 hits in 189 at-bats.

It is not an easy task to pick the best players for the annual baseball classic -- the All-Star Game. It is not possible to please everybody. Whether we agree or not, they have been chosen ... and here they are. The rosters for this year's Vim! League All-Star Game have been announced.

The VIML manager conceded that not every deserving player is rewarded with a spot on the roster. "Every year," he said, "someone is disappointed to be left out. This year's no different -- too many good players, not enough roster spots."

In the MDIL, the Cliff's Edge Actors and Rayburn Point Patcheyes are division leaders by two and three games, respectively. The Actors have been the best pitching team, allowing just 103 runs in 30 games so far. The Patcheye have been outscored on the season, 141-143, but still are tied for the MDIL's best record.

Legend Jurenka is not used to being associated with Batter of the Month-caliber players, but today the Southwest Harbor first baseman joined that select company when the Mount Desert Island League announced the results of June's voting.

Jurenka totaled 9 hits, 1 walk, 4 home runs, 11 RBIs and 5 runs scored last month to put together a .750 batting average and .769 on-base percentage.

The best pitcher this past month in the Mount Desert Island League was Robber Mega of the Oceanarium Oceanics. He really razzle-dazzled league hitters, finishing June with a standout 3-0 record and 1.93 ERA.

The Oceanics hurler made 4 starts and surrendered 32 hits in 32.2 innings. He struck out 18 and walked 11.

In the Vim! Rookie League, both divisions are tied. In the Western Atlantic Division, both the Rock Point Barnacles and Glowing Grove Brainiacs are tied at 18-12. In the Eastern Atlantic, there is a 17-13 tie between the Longfellow Pips and Huntress Island Ug-Qualtoths.

When Quadir Westwego stepped up to the plate in June he did it with confidence, and today he was honored with the VIM! Rookie League Batter of the Month award.

The young Longfellow right fielder posted a .493 batting average with 22 home runs, 41 RBIs and scored 29 runs. Westwego also worked pitchers for 8 walks to post a .553 on-base percentage.

June's top-rated pitcher was Tony the Natural Olguin of Longfellow Pips. He demoralized VIM! Rookie League hitters in posting a 3-0 record and captured the Pitcher of the Month award.

In 5 starts, Olguin limited opposing batters to a .276 average. He rang up 39 strikeouts in 33 innings of work, issued 14 walks, and crafted a 3.55 ERA.

In the final season of the Maine Youth Leagues before being transferred under control of the Commonwealth Baseball Organization, the Mount Desert Island Four winner was the Beaver Creek Bowlers and the Great Diamond Island League winner was the Echo Point Glowers.

It's party time in Echo Point. The confetti is flying and residents are smiling.

The Echo Point Glowers have reached the mountaintop, capturing the 2312 Maine Youth Series today. They defeated the Beaver Creek Bowlers 10-9 at Echo Point Park to officially wrap up the series 2-0.

Asked how it feels to be a champion, right fielder Naim Nagel was to the point.

"It feels great, like a million bucks. I'm so happy right now, not just for me but for all the guys," he said. "We put a lot of work into this and deserve to be champions."

The team is planning a victory parade and fan appreciation day later in the week. Echo Point finished the regular season 25-15 and claimed first place in the Great Diamond Island League.

Really pulling for the Witch Hats this year, the longer they keep it up. Might still be too early to dream.

Sorry for the lack for comments, things have been crazy at work.

Salem is perhaps deceptively good. If I just look at their lineup, I do not see more than two outstanding players in 2B Peter Pan Calvillo and 1B Brian DeLong. Their OF is old: LF Dan Erb (35), RF Chris Treestump (34), LF Carney Cornseed (33), and CF Andy Dogleash (32). Theor bullpen is mostly serviceable dudes but no studs. Their starters have two quality pitchers. Yet, they keep siting atop the standings and pulling away more and more each update.

I understand busy. I am too busy sometimes to make updates but try to find time (like now at 8 PM on a Friday night ). Do not feel obligated that you have to comment. If you do, you do.

The reliever was today named the MDIF Reliever of the Year Award winner for 2312.

He won the award with a strong year that saw him put up no saves in 16 relief appearances and 25 strikeouts in 16.1 innings. He had a record of 0-0 to go with his 1.65 ERA.

He received 6 first place votes out of a possible 8. Higby Higgins of the Beaver Creek Bowlers finished second in voting with 2 first place votes, while Ralphie Fogdrinker of the National Park Rangers finished third.

Player - Team - First Place - Total Points
Marsh Hill - Far Harbor Dockdwellers - 6 - 36
Higby Higgins - Beaver Creek Bowlers - 2 - 28
Ralphie Fogdrinker - National Park Rangers - 0 - 8

GDIL Reliever - At the age of 15, Lapdog Sideburn says he still has a lot to learn about life in Maine Youth Leagues.

But he certainly seems to be a quick study, as the Diamond Cove Fort Knights reliever was better than all others this year and has captured the 2312 Great Diamond Island League Reliever of the Year Award.

"I hope to win this a few more times before all is said and done in my career," the
Waldoboro, Maine native said.

For the season, Sideburn had no saves in 11 relief appearances, which totaled 15. He fanned 15 betters, while walking 2 and put up a record of 0-0 to go with his 1.20 ERA.

He received 4 first place votes out of a possible 8. Pax Trapper of the Echo Point Glowers finished second in voting with 4 first place votes, while Cobra Moore of the Diamond Cove Fort Knights finished third.

I understand busy. I am too busy sometimes to make updates but try to find time (like now at 8 PM on a Friday night ). Do not feel obligated that you have to comment. If you do, you do.
See it's prime baseball time though, the playoffs, so I really feel like now's the time to do OOTP things. Perhaps I am just a little less enthusiastic this year because the Cardinals are in a "historic slump" (try saying that with a straight face, even if it's the worst of my lifetime, it's still objectively not really that bad haha).

As I've said previously, simulation games, by their very nature, have a hard time displaying, at least, when something just clicks without being singularly outstanding. Those that put all their eggs in one basket would do well to heed the children's tales, but I'm sure the denizens of the Wasteland are probably just going to chalk it up to luck

BNN Report

News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

15 July 2312

CBO Analysis

Now through 14 weeks of the 2312 season, we are now deep enough in the season that we think we know for sure the contenders and pretenders. We are also featuring the last four teams heading into the last legs of the 2312 season with every team finished with 88 of their 130 games. Three teams--Salem, Fort Hagen, and Roxbury--have won 50 or more games, so we are pretty sure they will be in the playoff race until the end. Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization:

Teams (Total Points, Tendency):
1) Salem Witch Hats (119.6, o)
2) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (113.4, +)
3) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (105.3, ++)
4) The Slog Ghouls (105.1, ++)
5) County Crossing Bloodbugs (103.3, ++)
6) Vault 81 Dwellers (102.1, ++)
7) Roxbury Rad Sox (101.4, --)
8) FHE Yao Guai (101.3, --)
9) Concord Radstags (100.0, ++)
10) Starlight Killers (100.0, +)
11) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (99.3, --)
12) Oberland T-51s (99.1, -)
13) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (98.0, ++)
14) Egret Ninjas (93.1, --)
15) Bunker Hill 75ers (93.0, ++)
16) University Point Deathclaws (86.1, --)
17) Cambridge Coursers (82.9, o)
18) Diamond City Swatters (82.9, ++)
19) Goodneighbor Hancocks (82.1, --)
20) Nahant Celtics (80.9, +)
21) Atom Cats (80.7, -)
22) Easy Town Assaultrons (80.7, +)
23) Southie Brews (71.8, o)
24) Malden Grognaks (70.6, ++)
25) Lexington Synths (70.4, ++)
26) Spectacle Island Reapers (66.5, o)
27) Glowing Sea Radscorpions (63.6, --)
28) Quincy Gunners (62.6, --)

Brotherhood League

Salem continues to ride atop the CBO. Though they are 5-5 in their last 10, they enter today on a three-game wining streak and an eight-game lead in the BL over both Nordhagen Beach and County Crossing. The Slog is the only other team above .500, so all of Nahant, Easy Town, and Malden are probably looking to the future to see how to compete for a championship.

Easy Town is the one team we have not featured in 2312. At 39-49 and in 6th place, the Assaultrons can be sure that they are missing the playoffs for the fifth-straight season after their four-year run in the playoffs from 2304-2307. The Trons are not the worst team in the NCA by far, but they are nowhere near in talent to lots of other teams in the NCA. In fact, looking over the current roster, current Red Rocket Rookie Award leader CF Eden Babz (.341/11/56/36 SB), 1B Baktu DaWell (.347/13/44), and SP Scott Fuhr (7-8, 4.22) are the only top players on the roster. Outside of 1B prospects in Bullet Minnow, Victor Yes, and Tiger McQuaid, the Assaultrons are also not sporting a lot of talent in their farm system. We have no answers of what to do in the next few seasons of probable misery, but developing talent will have to be the answer. Trades are not going to garner enough talent to be competitive within the next five years or so.

Institute League

Fort Hagen is tied with the Hats for the CBO's largest league lead of eight games. At 45-43, four teams are currently tied for 2nd place in the league and the 6th playoffs spot: Bunker Hill, Concord, Starlight, and Sunshine Tidings. Cambridge and Lexington have bright futures, so they can look forward to what dreams may come.

The Synths have been the CBO's most vexing franchise. Not only have they never made the playoffs in the full CBO, but they have only finished above .500 once in the CBO, in 2299 when they finished 57-51 and in 4th place. Unlike Easy Town featured above, the Synths do have a lot of talent in their farm system. Assuming the talent develops or there are capable players traded for in their place, Lexington could see itself competing for a championship in the next five years. Some excitement is already afoot with the callup of 2311 2nd-round rookie 3B Tommy Whitetiger (.294/3/9 in 22 games) who was acquired from the Chemists in a one-for-one trade for LF Family Sam Partridge. Other sparks of hope abound throughout the franchise: RP/CL Hunter Kim (3-6, 2 SV, 4.57) who may become a starter one day, 1B Eugene Jeep (.303/14/51), 2311 1st-round pick LF Campy Madrid (.335/5/22/9 SB), RF Speedy Bugg (.259/10/38), and minor leaguers, CF Packs Ton Kling, SP Diesel O'Neal, 1B Flip Solitary, 3B Tarry Chik, and CF Dude Lebowski. There is also plenty of talented players they can trade to start upgrading the CBO team as early as 2313. Lexington is currently on a five-game winning streak but still three games below Spectacle Island for the CBO's worst record.

Minutemen League

There is a three-team race in the ML with Jamaica Plain, Goodneighbor, and University Point separated by three games. After that, the rest of the ML is out of it with 4th-place Aton 10 games below .500, followed by Southier, Quincy, and Spectacle Island.

At first glance, you would think the Cats would be in the playoff race. With the 4th-highest scoring offense in the SCA (463 runs scored), and what appears to be a talented rotation, it would seem they would be competitive. However, pitching has not answered the call, currently 14th in runs allowed (523) with the 12th-best Starters ERA (4.99) and 14th-best Bullpen ERA (6.31). Atom ranks 1st in average (.296), as well as thre other offensive categories. Six of the eight batters are hitting above .300 with veteran 3B Shane Stabb (.341/12/46) leading the way. Stabb and Deer Quickwalker (.000 in 5 AB) are the only two hitters over 30 on the team, so there is a lot of hope that the Cats can turn things around in 2313, especially if they can shore up their pitching. They do not have a lot of standout players in their farm system, but could benefit by offloading a few for an uptick in pitching talent. We would recommend waiting until the offseason to do that.

Railroad League

The strongest league in the CBO, the RL has five teams above .500: Roxbury with a two-game lead, FHE, Egret, Oberland, and Vault 81. At four games under .500, Diamond City is still in the race but not really. In fact, we think that they Swatters should make a few splashes in the trade department to make a future run. With some talented youngsters on the mound, they could be a tough team to beat once their offense catches up.

The T-51s is our last team to feature in 2312. Unlike the other three teams featured, Oberland is in the playoff race and stands at only four games back of the Rad Sox. Ranked 3rd in scoring (468 runs) and 9th in runs allowed (440), Oberland knows that now is just as good a time as any to make run. The T-51s have already made a trade splash by acquiring 36-year-old SP Chris Teddybear (8-3, 3.89) from the Reapers. They already had four serviceable starters in Emperry Alizm (), Ahsoka Tano (), Zaire Inquisitor (), and Lannie Tykeson (). Now Tykeson () can concentrate on hitting in his time. The big blows to Oberland's title quest have been losing CL Aaron Geneva (8 SV, 2.25) for the season and SS Stormin Normin MacDonald (.325/4/23) for half the season. MacDonald should be back next week, though, which will again make the T-51s perhaps the best team talent-wise in the SCA.

CBO Standings

CBO Players of the Week

July 8 - One of the league's most exciting young players, Foo Fieterz of the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud earned himself North Charles Association Player of the Week honors with a standout performance in last week's games.

For the week the 24-year-old right fielder had a lofty .667 average (6-for-9), collecting 2 home runs, 9 RBIs and 5 runs scored.

To date this year, Fieterz is batting .240 with 9 home runs.

Veteran Barker Cocoa had a great week at the plate for the Deathclaws to capture the majority of votes for Player of the Week in the South Charles Association.

The 33-year-old University Point first baseman built a .381 average on the strength of 8 hits in 21 at-bats, 4 home runs and 8 RBIs.

Cocoa's current batting average stands at .309 and he has chalked up 31 home runs and 73 RBIs.

July 15 - Gavin Deux-Gas has the tools to stick in this league for many years. The 23-year-old shortstop of the The Slog Ghouls had a hot bat in the North Charles Association over the past seven days and won the Player of the Week honors.

Deux-Gas batted .560 with 14 hits in 25 at-bats, 1 home run and 6 RBIs.

Batting .323 to date, Deux-Gas has 21 home runs and 53 RBIs.

21-year-old Cyclone Bolt sent shock waves through Commonwealth Baseball Organization last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the South Charles Association Player of the Week Award.

A newcomer to the league, Bolt made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .545 average, 6 hits in 11 at-bats, 2 home runs and 8 runs batted in.

Where the FHE Yao Guai third baseman goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but Bolt certainly made his mark last week.

Bolt on the season is batting .412 with 2 home runs. His totals include 8 RBIs and 5 runs scored. He has played in 5 games.

CBO Noteworthy News

July 6 - The Concord Radstags had no answer for Malden Grognaks pitcher Ty Gibbs. They failed to score a single run against him, losing, 2-0. Concord managed only 2 hits off Gibbs, who had 9 strikeouts.

The extraordinarily popular Gibbs got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd.

"Grognaks fans are the best fans, in my opinion," he said. "It's a great feeling to throw a shutout under any circumstances, but to do it with the crowd behind you like that is just incredible."

Over the season Gibbs has thrown 109.2 innings and dished out 88 strikeouts with a 4-8 mark and a 3.53 ERA.

July 7 - After the game the Sunshine Tidings Chemists outstanding reliever Cush Baker celebrated his 300th-career save by reminiscing about his first save. "I remember it clearly. I was a rookie and the last one standing in the bullpen in an extra-inning game. Our staff was worn to a frazzle and was desperate for a pitcher. So they put me in. I faced four batters, rung up the victory and took the first step toward 300 saves."

The 35-year-old Baker got number 300 by preserving the Chemists 2-1 win over the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys.

So far in his career, Baker has appeared in 520 games and saved 300 games. His lifetime record is 33-49 with 476 strikeouts and 225 walks in 555.2 innings and his ERA stands at 3.22.

July 8 - Deathclaws right fielder Aesed Hayjen never thought his name would be associated with some of the great players in league history. Now that he has reached the 2000-hit threshold, that's all but guaranteed. Hayjen collected his big hit in a 3-2 loss to Easy Town.

Afterward, he thought about the achievement: "Overwhelmed," he said. "That's how I feel about it right now."

Hayjen went 2-for-4 for the game.

Hayjen has chalked up a career batting average of .321 with 2001 hits, 325 homers and 974 RBIs.

BNN Report

News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

29 July 2312

CBO Analysis

As we enter the All-Star Break in anticipation of this season's All-Star game at Southie's Gwinnett Brewery Park, we are just over a month away from the completion of the 2312 season. Some teams can already smell the bubbling cauldron of playoff time, while others can taste only their own toil and trouble.

Let's take a look at the Power Rankings and the current playoff seedings. Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization:

Teams (Total Points, Tendency):
1) County Crossing Bloodbugs (113.4, +)
2) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (108.2, o)
3) Salem Witch Hats (107.6, -)
4) Goodneighbor Hancocks (104.0, ++)
5) Concord Radstags (103.4, ++)
6) FHE Yao Guai (103.0, ++)
7) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (100.0, ++)
8) The Slog Ghouls (100.0, -)
9) Oberland T-51s (99.0, --)
10) Egret Ninjas (98.2, ++)
11) Starlight Killers (97.8, ++)
12) Vault 81 Dwellers (97.4, +)
13) Roxbury Rad Sox (94.8, --)
14) Bunker Hill 75ers (94.6, --)
15) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (92.2, --)
16) Diamond City Swatters (90.2, +)
17) University Point Deathclaws (89.6, --)
18) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (88.8, --)
19) Southie Brews (87.8, ++)
20) Easy Town Assaultrons (85.8, +)
21) Nahant Celtics (82.6, o)
22) Cambridge Coursers (80.8, -)
23) Atom Cats (79.8, --)
24) Lexington Synths (70.4, o)
25) Glowing Sea Radscorpions (67.2, +)
26) Quincy Gunners (65.2, +)
27) Spectacle Island Reapers (60.6, o)
28) Malden Grognaks (52.6, --)

NCA
1. Salem
2. Fort Hagen
3. County Crossing
4. The Slog
5. Nordhagen Beach
6. Concord

Still in the race:
Bunker Hill, Sunshine Tidings, Starlight

SCA
1, Roxbury
2. Jamaica Plain (5-3 record vs Goodneighbor)
3. Oberland (5-3 record vs FHE, 2-0 vs Goodneighbor)
4t. Goodneighbor (1-1 vs FHE)
4t. FHE (1-1 vs Goodneighbor)
6. Egret

Still in the race:
Vault 81, University Point

Brotherhood League

Salem's big lead is not as big as they have struggled as of late (4-6 in last 10), while County Crossing is surging (802 in last 10). The Slog and Nordhagen Beach are still hanging back as they hope to make their run in the playoffs. The Party Boys have represented the NCA in the Sole Survivor Series the past three seasons. Nahant, Easy Town, and Malden can all prepare for next year.

The Bloodbugs are suddenly looking very dangerous. Not even predicted to make the playoffs in 2312, the Bugs are just four games back of the Hats and a game back of Fort Hagen. County Crossing is a beast on offense, ranked first in the NCA in runs scored (612), average (.278), and home runs (153). RF Babs Rooth (.360/34/96) is the likely Nuka Hitter Award winner, which would be his fourth and first since 2309. Other top contributors include All-Star CF Bumpy Redfern (.331/18/79), 1B Zeldoplh Violet (.293/15/48), and 2B Yoink Yukon (.277/9/30/28 SB).

Institute League

The further we get into the 2312 season, the more it appears that Fort Hagen is consistent enough to hold on to its 1st place standing. Currently up six games on the red-hot COoncord Radstags, the Silver Shroud are the team to beat. In order, other playoff contenders are Bunker Hill, Sunshine Tidings, and Starlight. Cambridge has faded and Lexington has been hot enough to move out of the #1 draft pick position.

The Shroud are not at the top of any statistical category, but they are up there. In terms of runs scored, they are 4th (566), including 2ns in average (.277). They are tied for 5th in runs allowed (471), including 3rd in Starters ERA (3.99). In an interesting trade, they trued to boost their power numbers with the trade for RF Orcin Cardinal (.245/15/46) who was unhappy in a supporting role with Oberland. Outstanding players include SS Brennan Colt-45 (.305/14/71), LF/SP Admiral Kelm (.291/14/57/22 SB; 11-6, 5.10), SP La"Ray Kalel (14-5, 2.90), and CL Nien Nunb (23 SV, 2.53).

Minutemen League

Jamaica Plain and Goodneighbor are knotted up at 55-45 with University Point just three games back. All of Atom, Southie, Quincy, and Spectacle Island are pretty much out of the race. The Reapers are tied with Malden for the CBO's worst record.

The Red Rockets have seemed as though hey are back after a two-year absence from the playoffs, including a CBO-low 6th-place finish in 2311. First-year manager Fowl Rivera has turned the team around after taking over the last five games--all losses--to finish 2311. The Rockets are the SCA's top power team, leading in home runs (156), thanks to the play of four in the lineup: LF Ken Debate (.286/26/74), SS Brandon Larsonist (.224/17/26), 3B Tre Morgueman (.249/17/66), and 2B Kyran Millar (.308/14/53). Veterans SP Derek Green (7-6, 3.67) and Chris Deathclaw (10-5, 2.91) have pitched well. Deathclaw has had a resurgence after finishing 2311 at 8-17 with a 5.86 ERA.

Railroad League

This league is tight with five teams all three games within each other, in order: Roxbury, Oberland, FHE, Egret, and Vault 81. Diamond City is just two games under .500 100 game into the season, so they are in the playoff race. They would just need to overcome the gauntlet of powerhouses above them. Glowing Sea can prepare for next year.

For the Yao Guai, we are still trying to figure out exactly how good they are. FHE is 4th in runs scored (536) and 9th in runs allowed (494). The offense is good pretty much throughout the lineup, but it also does not have anyone challenging for the Nuka Hitter Award (spoiler: that award belongs to UP's Barker Cocoa). The three best are probably RF Sebastian Lort (.345/12/53), SS Dathomirian Zabrak (.310/5/39/30 SB), and LF Makin Jobear (.305/9/33).

CBO Standings

CBO Players of the Week

July 22 - Today the North Charles Association announced the Player of the Week Award. This week's honoree is Sunshine Tidings third baseman Ross Merchantman. When he steps into the batter's box, it's usually bad news for pitchers.

For the week he batted .526 (10-for-19) with 5 home runs and 8 RBIs.

To date this year, Merchantman is batting .263 with 21 home runs.

Veteran Barker Cocoa had a great week at the plate for the Deathclaws to capture the majority of votes for Player of the Week in the South Charles Association.

The 33-year-old University Point first baseman built a .526 average on the strength of 10 hits in 19 at-bats, 3 home runs and 12 RBIs.

Currently Cocoa has 35 home runs and a .329 batting average.

July 29 - Nobody in the North Charles Association had a better week than Alibel Contacts... Noooo-body! That's why he was voted the Player of the Week.

During the week the Fort Hagen third baseman compiled a .889 batting average (8-for-9) with 2 home runs, 4 RBI and scored 5 runs.

This season, Contacts has banged out 41 hits in 115 at-bats for a .357 average with 8 home runs. He is getting on base at a .475 pace and his totals also include 22 RBIs and 29 runs scored.

There was no one hotter in the South Charles Association last week as Magnum Peaeye attacked enemy pitching with a vengeance to collect the Player of the Week Award.

The 27-year-old Diamond City right fielder batted .448 with 13 hits in 29 at-bats, 4 home runs and 8 RBIs.

This year, Peaeye has collected a .316 batting average to date with 115 hits in 364 at-bats, 82 RBIs, 31 home runs and scored 64 times. He has played in 98 games.

CBO Noteworthy News

July 16 - He has done it!

Zeldolph Violet has reached the 400 home run mark. He did it today, but the County Crossing Bloodbugs still dropped the game to the Nahant Celtics by the score of 9-6.

"Number 400 was hard to come by. I think the pressure was getting to me a little bit. I got a call a few days ago from a couple of guys that have been through this and they just said, 'Keep going, have some fun. Just be you.' I think that helped me a little bit, having those guys make a call to me and try to settle some of the nerves down."

On his historic day Violet was 1-for-4 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored.

Over his career Violet is batting .314 with 319 doubles, 12 triples, 400 home runs, 1216 RBIs and scored 1030 runs in 1514 games.

July 23 - What would you do after you had just won your 150th game? Run around Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury doing cartwheels, jumping for joy and waving to the crowd? Well, maybe you and I would do that, but not Urm Rehfeldt -- that's not his way.

After he notched number 150, the 32-year-old Roxbury hurler spoke to the press like he always has -- in a soft, quiet voice. He wasn't doing any cartwheels or even anything resembling a jump for joy. "Obviously it feels very good," Rehfeldt commented. "To win this many games, you've got to have a lot of help."

Rehfeldt got his milestone victory by beating the Diamond City Swatters 7-3. He held them to 8 hits in 6 innings and rung up 4 strikeouts with no walks.

After sharing his thoughts with the press, he went to the clubhouse. There he was greeted by the guys who had helped him get #150. His teammates drenched him and then gave him a rousing round of applause. That got to him -- for the first time today, Rehfeldt's face broke into a big smile.

Rehfeldt has a lifetime ERA of 3.83 with a record of 150 wins and 76 losses.

The Railroad league is looking fun! 5 teams within three games! Heck the SCA has a whole has eight teams within two games of a playoff spot!

All while the NCA has no teams within 3 games of the division lead lol

I will say though, if the season ended now, I like all the teams that would win the divisions. Though I'd love for the Boys to fall off. Once they get to the playoffs, they just keep the party going!

This has been a tough year to really gauge what team is the IT team. If I had to take a guess with 30 to play, I would put Oberland over Fort Hagen as my Sole Survivor Series prediction. The T-51s were missing their star for a while and still found ways to win regularly. I feel they are going to surge past everyone in the end.

For the Boys, they only have a two-game lead on a wildcard spot, so this very much could be the year we finally see them out of the running before the playoffs begin. All their mid-30s guys are showing their age.

BNN Report

News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

31 July 2312

Southie - During the star-studded affair, the 2312 North Charles Association All-Stars defeated the South Charles Association All-Stars by a score of 5-3.

The fans in attendance at Gwinnett Brewery Park certainly enjoyed the show, seeing the best that the game had to offer.

Chief among the stars was Duff Fee, who led the North Charles Association to victory.

"I will admit I was nervous out there. To share a field with such incredible players is always a humbling experience. But after the first couple pitches, you just have to ignore the talent out there and focus on your game," Fee commented as he accepted his award after the game.

For his career, Fee has hit at a .307 clip. Among his lifetime numbers are 609 hits, 79 doubles, 24 triples, 113 home runs and 306 RBIs.

News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

1 August 2312

The August Super Post

CBO Players of the Month

NCA Hitter - At only 25 years of age, Jim Geiger could very well have many more months like this last one during his career.

That would be great news for fans of the Cambridge Coursers, as July was one to remember for the right fielder and he has captured the North Charles Association Batter of the Month award.

On the month he hit .451 with 4 home runs, 15 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

Geiger is batting at a .361 pace this season, picking up 120 hits in 332 at-bats with 7 home runs, 53 RBIs and 57 runs scored.

SCA Hitter - When guys like University Point's Barker Cocoa win Batter of the Month awards, it just makes you feel good. In a productive July, the longtime South Charles Association veteran toyed with opposing pitchers, collecting 35 hits in 86 at-bats.

The veteran first baseman hit for a .407 batting average and collected 11 home runs, 31 RBIs and 28 runs scored.

This season, Cocoa has delivered 116 hits in 353 at-bats for a .329 average with 38 home runs. He is getting on base at a .448 clip and his totals also include 96 RBIs and 93 runs scored. This year Cocoa has played in 100 games.he is on pace to hit 50 home runs for the third time in four seasons.

NCA Pitcher - County Crossing starter College Luckyman really put the chill on opposing teams in July and today was acclaimed the North Charles Association Pitcher of the Month.

He excelled with a 4-0 mark and 2.16 ERA in 6 starts. In 41.2 innings, he fanned 24 and walked 10.

Thus far this season, Luckyman has posted a 12-6 record, started 25 games, struck out 90 batters in 151.1 innings and compiled a 3.33 ERA.

SCA Pitcher - Oberland T-51s hurler Zaire Inquisitor was rewarded today with the South Charles Association Pitcher of the Month honors. Inquisitor, 26, realizes that pitching isn't all about how hard you can throw, it's about accuracy and about picking yourself up even when you've had a run of bad luck.

"I'd like to say I don't give them anything to hit," said the Oberland starter, "but that's not true. Every pitcher gives up a long ball now and then. Usually there's at least one mistake in each at-bat, but you've got to battle through your mistakes and build some positive momentum. The rest will fall into place."

Things did fall into place for Inquisitor. In July he took the ball for 39 innings while notching 26 strikeouts, a 3.92 ERA and a 4-0 record.

This year, Inquisitor has fanned 89 in 141.1 innings and collected a 13-7 record with a 4.33 ERA.

NCA Rookie - The best North Charles Association rookie in July was Easy Town's catcher Jasha Varnikov.

He hit .342 with 25 hits, 6 home runs, 13 RBIs, and 10 runs scored. He also walked 11 times on his way to a .435 OBP.

On the year, Varnikov is hitting .246 with 73 hits, 9 home runs, 44 RBIs, .317 OBP and has scored 28 runs.

SCA Rookie - Slip Knotty is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest South Charles Association Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In July the FHE hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .309 average with 29 hits, 6 home runs and 11 RBIs.

This year, Knotty has hit at a .266 clip with 51 RBIs, 16 home runs and 46 runs scored.

Nuka News Update

Reporting on the NWL, APL, NWLR, and BBL Leagues

by Evan Guy

1 August 2312

Quantum, Cherry Continue to Lead

With just three weeks remaining in the 2312 NWL season, the Quantum Nukalurks and Cherry Ghoulrillas continue to lead their divisions in the race for the 2312 Nuka Series. Both teams were the preseason favorites to win their divisions. The Ghoulrillas have the tightest race, up just two games on Orange with 18 to play.

What does a .424 batting average, 10 home runs, 26 RBIs, 30 runs scored a .468 on-base percentage get you?

Honors as the Nuka World League Batter of the Month, evidently.

Doman Northsea was given the award today for a campaign that saw the Orange Tourists first baseman lead all other hitters.

Northsea is currently hitting at a .370 pace with 16 home runs, 57 RBIs and has scored 58 times.

It doesn't happen often, but it did in July. A reliever, Shamar Hunt, is the recipient of the Nuka World League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Ghoulrillas bullpen ace starred with no saves in 1 relief appearance with a 3-0 record, logging 30.2 innings, 19 strikeouts, 10 walks and a 2.35 ERA.

Hunt has earned no saves and a 4-0 mark this season with a 2.85 earned run average in 11 relief appearances. He has worked 53.2 innings, yielded 49 hits, struck out 32 batters and walked 21.

The Nuka World League made the official announcement today. The Rookie of the Month award went to Big Bear McIntosh of Orange. He was named the best rookie in July.

Last month, the 27-year-old Tourists second baseman played in 24 games and hit .462 with 16 doubles, 1 triple and 5 home runs. McIntosh also scored 23 times and drove in 25 runs.

This season, McIntosh is hitting .394 with 113 hits, 10 home runs, 62 RBIs, scored 56 runs and played in 70 games.

In the Amusement Park League, the Bradberton Disciples hold a three-game lead, and the Grandchester Flying Ants have a 2.5 game lead. All other teams are within eight games of .500 and officially alive in the playoff race.

When Wally Oppenheimer stepped up to the plate in July he did it with confidence, and today he was honored with the Amusement Park League Batter of the Month award.

The young Dry Rock Gulch left fielder posted a .366 batting average with 7 home runs, 20 RBIs and scored 17 runs. Oppenheimer also worked pitchers for 9 walks to post a .458 on-base percentage.

In 48 games this season, Oppenheimer is batting .299 with 55 hits and 15 home runs. He has scored 43 runs and driven in 37.

The premier pitcher this past month in the Amusement Park League was Dante Brown of the Galactic Zone G-Force. He was one mighty tough pitcher, finishing July with a sensational 3-0 record and a 2.22 ERA.

The G-Force star made 4 starts and surrendered 25 hits in 28.1 innings. He struck out 10 and walked 10.

Brown has made 9 starts this season, posting 5 wins and 2 losses. Opposing clubs are batting .267 against him and he has 23 strikeouts in 56.1 innings with a 3.36 ERA.

Both leaders have a two-game advantage in their divisions in the NWLRL. Leaders are the Nuka Jolly Elves and Hubologist Camp Barkers.

Not known for his offensive prowess, Ruins Rogers set the league afire in July and took home the NWL Rookie League Batter of the Month award.

The Wixon third baseman posted a steady .431 batting average, 6 home runs, 26 RBIs and 20 runs.

In 48 games this season, Rogers has compiled a .393 batting average with 77 hits and 12 home runs. He has also scored 43 times and knocked in 52 runs.

Nuka Jolly's reliever Longbow Lou Deere really put the chill on opposing teams in July and today was acclaimed the NWL Rookie League Pitcher of the Month.

Deere made 9 relief appearances, picking up 6 saves and compiling a 1-1 mark. He struck out 17 while walking 4 and put up a 0.82 ERA in 11 innings.

This season, Deere has 8 saves in 22 relief appearances with a 1-1 mark and 1.71 ERA.

Vim! View

Veracious, Vivacious, Vainglorious Vision of the Vim! Leagues

1 July 2312

Far Harbor Maintains Lead, Dalton Farm-National Park Tied

It is bizarre that an entire month has passed, and the headline remains the same. Exactly one month ago, we ran this headline. At the end of July, the Far Harbor Ghoul Whales still have control of their division, and the National Park Gulpers and Falton Farm Fog Crawlers enter again tied atop the Fog Division. There are 18 games remaining in the regular season, so let's see what may change in that time.

Hazmatt Zuniga has been the model of consistency over the past month and has been a tough out, claiming the Vim! League Batter of the Month trophy for July.

The Far Harbor first baseman hit .367 with 4 home runs, 16 RBIs and 19 runs scored. He was also walked 17 times and posted a .479 on-base percentage.

This year, Zuniga is hitting .310 with 77 hits, 17 home runs, 55 RBIs and has scored 50 runs.

The Pitcher of the Month Award has been announced and the Vim! League winner is Dalton Farm hurler, Birdman Galvan. For his standout performances in July he has been named the league's best pitcher.

During the month, Galvan excelled with a 2.20 ERA and 5 wins and no losses. In 32.2 innings he struck out 31 and gave up 33 hits and 13 walks.

This year, Galvan has compiled a 6-3 mark with a 4.79 ERA.

Birdman Galvan was awarded July's Rookie of the Month trophy by Vim! League officials today.

The pitcher for Dalton Farm registered a 2.20 ERA in 5 starts, logging a 5-0 record and 31 strikeouts in 32.2 innings.

In 10 starts this year, Galvan has posted 6 wins while suffering 3 losses. He has pitched 67.2 innings, allowed 76 hits, struck out 45 and has a 4.79 ERA.

The Mount Desert Island League also has one team in control and one division tied. The Rayburn Point Patcheyes lead the Old Longfellow Diviwsion, while the Cliff's Edge Actors and Brooke's Head Behemoths are knotted up in the Small Berha Division.

It's perhaps an award he'll win many more times through his career, as at age 24 Cookie Roberts has a lot of baseball ahead of him.

But for now the young Southwest Harbor Rippers star can enjoy the numbers he put up in July, which have garnered him the nod as the Mount Desert Island League Batter of the Month.

His breakout month featured a .333 average with 7 home runs, 18 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

Roberts is hitting .290 for the season with 12 home runs, 31 RBIs and 38 runs scored. He has 53 hits in 183 at-bats and played in 48 games.

Sean Jones of the Haddock Cove Engineers strung a bunch of high quality starts together in July to earn the Mount Desert Island League Pitcher of the Month trophy.

For the month he finished with a superlative 4 wins and no losses and a 2.25 ERA. The Haddock Cove star started 4 games, pitched 32 innings and struck out 17.

To date this season, Jones sports a 8-3 mark with a 3.54 ERA in 12 starting assignments. He has held the opposition to a .271 batting average and has 44 strikeouts in 86.1 innings.

There are two division ties in the Vim! Rookie League Standings. In the Western Atlantic Division, the Glowing Grove Brainiacs and Rock Point Barnacles are tied at 26-22. The same goes for the Eastern Atlantic Division where the Longfellow Pips and Huntress Island Ug-Qualtoths ae both 28-20.

Even though he is a newcomer to VIM! Rookie League, Ricky Quan put up some good numbers in July and earned the VRL Batter of the Month award.

He was one of Vim Factory's offensive leaders with a .500 average in 18 games. He also racked up 7 home runs, 21 RBIs, and 23 runs scored.

Quan is batting .364 with 12 home runs and 35 RBIs this season.

The VIM! Rookie League scribes have selected July's Pitcher of the Month and have awarded the honor to Wash Ington of Longfellow. He was outstanding on the hill last month and has the numbers to prove it -- a 5-0 record.

The Pips star performer made 5 starts with a 3.16 ERA and surrendered 30 hits in 37 innings. He struck out 42 and walked 25.

Ington has gone 5-2 this season with an ERA of 7.38 and 81 strikeouts in 68.1 innings pitched. Other clubs are hitting .272 against him.

The Sanctuary Hills Zetans have reached the mountaintop, capturing the 2312 Boston Minor Series today. They defeated the Mayoral Shelter Tricentennials 7-6 at Nora Howard Memorial Park to officially wrap up the series 3-2.

Asked how it feels to be a champion, right fielder Cosmo Spacely was to the point.

"It feels great, like a million bucks. I'm so happy right now, not just for me but for all the guys," he said. "We put a lot of work into this and deserve to be champions."

The team is planning a victory parade and fan appreciation day later in the week. Sanctuary Hills finished the regular season 62-26 and claimed first place in the Commonwealth Association Cambridge League.

CBO's 2312 Rookie Draft Prospects

Now that all eligible players have declared for the 2312 draft, we have a list of some of the outstanding prospects for the draft. Pundits believe that this year's draft is low in top talent with only nine players considered "can't miss" prospects and just 20 players rated in the "probably CBO" category.

Let's start to break down some of the top talent leading up to the draft with the OSA's original top prospects list and a breakdown of the Top 5 there:

For the entrants in this year's rookie draft, released today by the league, the possibilities are endless. Some will immediately seize their opportunity to play in the bigs with a venom, doggedly working their way up through the system to arrive on the pro circuit in three to five years, if they are lucky. Others will struggle, have their hopes dashed, reborn and dashed again, all the while not fully giving up on the dream. Still others will take each day as it comes, while not losing sight of the end-game. They will figure it out, quietly work their way into the professional ranks and have solid, if not spectacular, careers in Commonwealth Baseball Organization. At any rate, teams now can scout the draft pool for the next 30 days.

The Transactions page also gets a new section dedicated to the pool and will be available for 90 days prior to draft day.

The early favorites to be high picks are the following:
1. Voodoo Sycamore, 20 year-old 1B out of college.
2. Moktar Wakihuri, 19 year-old 3B out of college.
3. Jack of Diamonds Cordero, 20 year-old 2B out of college.
4. Sincere Grey, 17 year-old SS out of high-school.
5. Slocum Simpleton, 20 year-old 1B out of college.
6. Ogre Serrata, 17 year-old 1B out of high-school.
7. Jannar Arbor, 20 year-old LF out of college.
8. Richard Burns, 17 year-old RHP out of high-school.
9. Harvey Aard, 20 year-old C out of college.
10. I.C. Reader, 17 year-old 3B out of high-school.

1. Voodoo Sycamore, 20 year-old 1B out of Quincy College - Depending on the team that takes him, Sycamore is considered to already potentially be CBO-ready straight out of college. The junior batted .385/22/46 for the Masons in 2312. Scouts like that he improved his pitch recognition and learned better how to lay off bad pitches. They see him as being an elite power hitter in the middle of a lineup.

2. Moktar Wakihuri, 19 year-old 3B out of Greenfield College - Despite being banged up his junior season with the Greenies, Wakihuri showed a lot of improvement, finishing the season .399/18/51. While he will never be a star, scouts like his consistency of improvement, showing a better skillset each year, though he may want to work more on his defensive abilities to be a CBO 3B. Still, he can hit with power and could pop his away to a .300 average with 30+ homers.

3. Jack of Diamonds Cordero, 20 year-old 2B out of Holy Cross College - Another player who may be CBO-ready straight from the draft, Cordero may turn out to be the #1 overall player taken. The Crsdaers' junior hit ,390 with 12 home runs and 41 RBI. Right now, he will be more about getting on base than hitting for power, though he does have decent enough power potential to hit in the double digits. His defense is excellent, and if a team wants him to play in the minors, he could also spend more time improving at SS for a better career path chance.

4. Sincere Grey, 17 year-old SS out of Beantown - OSA's top-rated youth league player, Grey is currently projected as a definite 1B in ability, but teams may want to work him elsewhere. He could pretty much play any corner IF or OF spot, along with middle IF. His best projection may be at 2B. As far as hitting is concerned, scouts see his patience at the plate as his greatest asset where he may one day take over the walks leaderboard in the CBO. He has good all-around potential to be a threat at the plate.

5. Slocum Simpleton, 20 year-old 1B out of Glowing Sea College - The three-year starter for the Glowing ones, Simpleton has the ability to be a powerhouse in the middle of a CBO lineup. Scouts like the lefty's ability to take control at the plate, forcing the pitcher to fool him to get him out. Scouts see Simpleton as aggressive but still needing to better recognize his pitch before he is CBO-ready. In the end, they expect him to be hitting 3rd or 4th in the lineup. With the glove, Simpleton is good at nabbing balls, though his limited range and arm will keep him parked at 1B and not moving to the OF.

MML's Worcester Takes 2312 Crown

It was a hard-fought battle for both teams to make it this far. But as the saying goes, "to the victors go the spoils." For the victorious Worcester Cannons, that meant the Massachusetts Minor League Massachussetts Minor Series trophy.

The Cannons took a 7-3 victory over the Finch Farm Shamrocks at Finch Family Park, winning their 2nd championship after taking the series 4-1.

"We've got grit," said Cannons second baseman Burtie Cuttooth, who was named MVP of the series. "We know how to win when we have to."

The new titleholders completed the regular season with a first-place finish in the Stars League Ted Williams Division and a 71-37 record.

I suppose this is in line with the discussion we just had, but it's interesting the power rankings have the Witch Hats third. Not arguing really, just like, hmmm, yes. But still, a feeling in my gut, and that's what this is all about, right? I think I'm just really feeling Halloween this year too for some reason, normally not really my sort of holiday, but eh, I'm feeling festive, and it's just around the corner.

I still have a couple of days to sim before writing the next update, which may not happen this weekend. Anyway, as you'll see in the next update, the BL is now very much in doubt, so it makes sense that the Witch Hats have dropped. They have recovered in their past 10, but the other team that has been hot since the All-Star Break is still hot. Just a couple of game days ago in my sim, the BL was tied. In other words, three teams are in contention for the #1 seed right now.
