As far as I understand, at this point, the game is installed, but won't run. At any point, did you patch the game up to its latest version? Are you installing it via a setup file you've downloaded from this site? I assume that the company has made a new "setup file" out of the latest version of the game (either v9.2.2 or v9.2.3); I wonder if the setup file you're using is this latest version?

I realize that you've been uninstalling it, then re-installing it, but when you "uninstall" the game, that really doesn't delete all the files which the game had installed.

This is what I'd like to try: uninstall the game, using the usual method, and then I'd like for us to somehow delete all the files and folders which the game had placed on your hard drive. There might be a guide on how to do this somewhere on this Technical Support subforum, in one of the posts; some sort of guide on how to completely eliminate all the files and folders from an install, even after the game has been "uninstalled" by the typical method.

Then, after that, when you re-install the game, make sure that the game is patched up to its latest version before you try to open it. That is, check that install file and get the data off of it to determine its version; this might be listed in its "Properties" somewhere, or we might be able to make sure it is the latest, up-to-date, version of the game by checking the exact file size (down to the byte) or the date stamp on it.

I'd also like to get help from someone else, like Nutlaw, or some other specialist, or representative from OOTP Developments.

When you're installing the game, are you letting it install itself into the default folder it creates, with all the folder names left at their defaults?

How many hard drives do you have hooked up to your machine? Are you installing the game onto your main, internal hard drive? And is it labeled as your C: drive?

Also, just to check on how everything started: what process did you go through, putting the game on your computer, and buying the license?

Did you learn about the game, buy the license right away, and then download the setup file as part of your purchasing process? So you've never had the game working on your machine; it's installing, and you're entering your license, and the game is telling you that everything is complete, and then when you've gone to actually launch the game, that's when you get the crashes? You've gotten the game "installed," gotten your license entered, and approved, and then the game never has launched or worked?

So the first time you downloaded the setup file, it was part of the purchasing process, but, since then, you've been downloading a setup file from another page on the website, just the general setup file download page? Or do you have a setup file on your machine that you got during that purchasing procedure, and you've been using that same setup file every time, when you've installed and re-installed? Every time you've re-installed, has the game re-asked you for your license information?

Maybe we should try installing it differently. We could install a setup file that we get from a different source. And maybe we could install the game in "demo mode," that is, install it and not put in the license code at first; then try to see if the game will run, and then enter your license code later.

Like I mentioned before, I've heard of crashes being related to running in widowed mode, versus full-screen mode. I believe there's some way to toggle these modes without actually running the game; if we keep striking out, at some point, we need to try and get your game to boot in full-screen mode, as opposed to windowed mode.

SATCHEL, it is my dream now to get this game going...

Okay, I heard of the game on Gamespot, while reading about 2k FOM. This started it all. I came to your site, read a ton of reviews, everybody loves this, and it's not graphic intensive, like a lot of newer games so, after making sure I have at least the min. req's I Downloaded and Installed the game following all default instructions (basically, agreeing and clicking next to everything) through the OOTP PC download Icon.
Then I installed the game thinking am I paying for this?

When I launched the game, a screen came up to purchase, silly me I thought I somehow avoided that. So I purchased and there was some prob's with getting the license, all the cut and pasting, getting messages like "perhaps you didn't copy the whole file", etc. This is where it got strange. I remember finding a file called "license" in my My Documents folder. I didn't think I saved anything there. I guess I was copying the wrong license into the space? When I tried this new license I found, it was accepted quickly almost too quickly.

Now, I don't remember if this was when the game crashed, or if I loaded the game again and then it crashed. The crash window was simply your standard Windows needs to close program, would you like to send an error report?

At this time I believe I had several windows open on the internet, as I just downloaded the game and set up the license and what-have-you. So when I restarted the game I was sure to close all of these and that's when I was told in a OOTP Window that "the game has been flagged for a crash on start up, and that OOTP will reset to default graphics in order to load, and that I may change these graphic settings later."
I clicked okay and then, like before an OOTP maximized window opens, the crash/error report window overlays it, and the OOTP screen in the background goes white with a busy (Hourglass) pointer over it.

Later, in the Forum, I noticed a Download 2.2 prior to posting. I did not notice this before I originally posted, and I thought I found a MAC person with the same error message posted but no answer was given. So I did download the 2.2 OOTPSETUP.EXE file that's appx 230MB and tried again.

When this didn't work is when we began our threads. I thought it was graphic related, not processor, and having never seen the game before other than some screenshots, I didn't know if it was heavy on graphics. NUTLAW was talking memory, but when I see my task manager available memory at times over 500M, I figure it should work.

Since then there have been a number of updates I have installed. I have been prompted to restart for the effects to take place, and there is an ATI program running on the lower right of my ques, but other than that, I have no idea if the updates are working. Perhaps there's something there?

After several uninstalls, deletes (since the game appears in my startup menu, through programs, OOTP, etc. and a desktop Icon) and reinstalls the results are exactly the same, except for one time right after successfully installing the .NET and ATI graphic suite when I was prompted that the OOTP file "Database" could not be found and I should reinstall the game. I thought we got it here. I found out 15 minutes later we did not.

I went into My Documents and found a blank folder OOTP and another folder Out of the Park Developments which seems to have the entire game files. I DID NOT ASSIGN THE DOWNLOAD TO MY DOCUMENTS!

I also noticed that a 100MB file exists when going to "control panel - add/remove programs". So I have removed that as well.

You're right, there are multiple places that need to be uninstalled/deleted for me to feel I've done the job. This is as far as I've got. And I have reinstalled both the OOTP9 setup.exe and the OOTP9 v2.2 setup.exe (if necessary?) To the best of my knowledge, the only thing I have not deleted is the License file? Could I delete that and resubmit for a new license?

For all your words and thoughts and time, thank you.

The only other place where you ought to have files stored is at: C:\Documents and Settings\(user)\Application Data\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 9

You could try deleting those. They are just setting related. Note that the Application Data folder is hidden.

It sounds as if you were accidentally installing the game to multiple locations at one point. Were you using the shortcut or desktop links to open the game, or were you going directly into the installation directory and running ootp9.exe from there?

I used both the desktop shortcut, the START - programs - OOTP - OOTP9 and the recently used programs in my start menu to launch.

After I uninstall everything, and redownload, do I need to go to the link in the forum for OOTP 9.2.2 and update before starting to run the game?

What about the program starting when I got the license. Everything seemed to work fine there. Only after the license the problems started?

And finally, Satchel is saying the game should not launch in a maximized window like on my computer, but rather go to full screen, like my other games. Is there a way to switch this setting?

Please, give me a step by step (proper way) of making the uninstall and file deletes to completely erase all traces of this game from my computer so that I may start over.

Next, outline a sure fire way to download, install and run this program.

Then, if it still does not work, it was not meant to be, and you can inform me of how I will be getting my money back.

Thank you. All of you.

DuckSnort, what point are you at now? Have you cleaned up everything as well as you can?

According to Nutlaw, that place in your My Documents folder is the only place where there will be extra OOTP files.

Here's how I would uninstall the game: go to your "Start" menu, open the "Programs" (or "All Programs") list, pick "Out of the Park Developments," go to "OOTP Baseball 9" and choose "Uninstall OOTP 9".

Once that is finished, go to your Control Panel, and choose "Add or Remove Programs" and go to "Out of the Park Baseball 9" and note how big it is. How large is it? You said before that there was one 100MB in size. That sounds small to me. Are you sure it wasn't 1,000MB in size? Either way, note how big it is. Then, choose the "Remove" option. Th

Then, go to your "Program Files" on your hard drive, and look for the folder which holds you OOTP game. Delete it too.

Then go to your My Documents and find that "Out of the Park Developments" folder and delete it too.

Then empty all those deleted things out of your Recycle Bin, and restart your machine.

This next time that you try to install, don't enter your license number. Tell the game you're going to do it later, or test out the Demo Mode, or whatever you have to do, in order to circumvent entering your license. TSee if the game will run in this "Demo" mode; it's identical to the regular game mode, except that you can't play a whole season. If the game will open, mess with it a little bit and see if it functions normally.

It seems like you have the latest version's setup file, if you've got the zip file that's called Setup9.2.2 (or whatever it's labeled exactly) and it's 240MB. Once you've got all the old OOTP stuff cleared off, run that install file and re-install the game. But don't try to run it yet, look at my "Side question" first.)

(Side question: what screen resolution are you running on your monitor? You can find this info by going to your "Control Panel" and choosing "Display" and then going to "Settings" and the "Screen Resolution" is on the lower left. What are those dimensions? There's an outside chance that you're running at a resolution that's below the game's required minimum. If the numbers listed as your screen resolution are smaller than 1024×768 then raise it to that setting.)

Once you've done these things, see if the game will open (and don't enter your license yet, like I said above.)

I'm also determined to get this to work!

thanks to DuckSnort for starting this thread and for satchel & Nutlaw's assistance...

I'm encountering the exact same issue when I try to launch OOTP9 with the "Red Flag for previous crash, OOTP resetting default graphics, etc." message then Windows giving me the error report send/do not send option -> game fails to start.

I'll breakdown my long story with my personal OOTP history... initially started with OOTP6 and have played that for years, have been intrigued with getting one of the new versions for awhile but have held off. Downloaded the trial version of OOTP9 this past summer, it didn't run very well (but it ran) and upon further inspection realized that my system (it's old) did not meet the minimum requirements.

I've recently upgraded my machine to a 1Ghz processor & 1.25GB RAM running XP professional SP3 which meets the minimum requirements for OOTP9

I re-downloaded the game after a minimal uninstall and hoped to run a trial to see if it worked with my new, improved machine. There must've been something lingering from my earlier trial because even with the new install, it indicated that my trial had expired. Putting my faith in Markus (very much enjoyed my OOTP6 experience), I decided to purchase the game and go from there.

Upon an attempt to start, I got the identical error message that DuckSnort received -> went to the forums, saw "Update patch prior to posting" -> did that, re-boot & still same message upon attempting to start the game.

Upon further perusal of the forums, I found this thread. Tried everything that was suggested here:

downloaded .NET -> restarted machine, attempted to start OOTP & got same error

checked my directx (it's v. 9.0)

updated my video card driver (it's an old card, but a significant upgrade over the previous card that was able to run the trial version) -> attempted to start & got same error

I have 55GB free hard drive space, running 1600x1200 resolution

Tried satchel's suggestion for a complete uninstall:

chose the uninstall from the programs list -> that went fine

went to "add/remove programs" and found no OOTP9 folder there

in "program files" no OOTP9 folder there (both had an existing OOTP6 folder, could that cause a conflict?)

found an OOTP9 folder in both "my documents" & "documents and settings/user/blahblahblah" -> deleted those

cleared the recycle bin, restarted the machine & re-installed the game from the 9.2.2 patch file, opened and... arrgh!

i wasn't prompted for a license (unable to start in demo mode). i assume somewhere in the machine that i can't find there is a setting that contains that info

I didn't get the "Red Flag for previous crash, OOTP resetting default graphics, etc." message for the first time, but still got the "ootp9.exe has encountered a problem" Microsoft error message with the send/don't send option.

another attempt at launching the game returned me to the "red flag...." message & subsequent Microsoft error message

...also the white window shell of the game did not come up in full-screen mode (more like 1/2 screen), not sure if that matters but saw it mentioned here

I attempted to copy/paste the error document that Microsoft provided, but apparently there was a formatting issue as it wouldn't display. If any tech-savvy individuals out there would like to take a look at that, I'm more than happy to provide it via email/pm/etc.

huge thanks to those who provided suggestions here

so i've been all over these boards trying to find possible solutions just to get the game started. a couple things were attempted with still getting the same results.

then i attempted to run the game as admin -> still got the "resetting default graphics" message but then got this:

"ADD_FRAMEWORK::startup-unable to find the folder 'database'. Please reinstall Out of the Park Developments"

....and did not receive the usual "ootp9.exe has encountered a problem" message

Prior to this, I've installed/re-installed the game 5-6 times. I'm skeptical as to whether or not it would actually make a difference this time?

There is a large OOTP9 folder in "My Documents" (377MB). Do they belong there? I copied all of those files into the Program Files\OOTP folder in hopes that it could then locate the database, but that was unsuccessful as well.

There's a .txt in the OOTP folder in "My Documents" that seems to contain some of the settings/locations.

Does this look right?

This next time that you try to install, don't enter your license number. Tell the game you're going to do it later, or test out the Demo Mode, or whatever you have to do, in order to circumvent entering your license.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game a number of times and I have not been asked for a license number or taken to a license screen since the first time I launched the game. As you may remember, getting the license is the only thing that has worked for me so far (and even that's a little funny).
As far as screen resolution, I came back down to 1024x786 thinking that might help. So we're good there.

I am reading it now, in add/remove programs 100.00MB OOTP files, occasionally used. There is an Out of the Park Developments folder at 377MB and an empty folder OOTP9 in MY DOCUMENTS?

I thought these files were set in Program files when I installed them?

So I wonder why I have game files saving in both program files and my documents? None of my other games behave this way. Is the game somehow using excel or word or something? Notpad? I don't get it.

All my other games install right where they say they'll be when I install them through the wizard in program files. The only thing I can think of is maybe the computer is getting confused because there are Program Files and My Documents files?

I appreciate the additional tags from our new guests, it seems as though they've gone even farther than I in solving this. Perhaps when we get this working we can get a league together...

To the OOTP Development/Support Team

I'm not sure how a program dependent on so many factors being just right can be openly sold like this? With all respect, I suggest you include more detail/instructions about downloading and installing the game, the license, etc. (even a warning that there are factors beyond system requirements to run the game) because I for one have felt as if I needed to figure it out. That should be your job OOTP, mine is to play.

I'm not opposed to doing some work on my end, anyone interested in the game this much would be willing to do this. But come on, this is the best you can do for support? Writing a post every other day or something. Boo!

I'm trying not to take it personally, but the "Hamburgler" is making me wonder where my money is going?

In the Start Menu under OOTP there should be an option in the Tools submenu to launch OOTP in trace mode.

Can you run it from that point, and then when it crashes (if it does) go to My Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 9 and check if there's an ootp.log file listed in that directory. If there is, could you attach it to your reply.

First, I need to do a reinstall, I followed the program laid out by Satchel to uninstall everything. He says I should just pick up the OOTP9 2.2 patch on the forum and install that.

Is this good? Should I RUN during the download, or SAVE TO FILE, and install after the file is saved?

Either is fine - save to file just means you won't need to re-download it if necessary.

If you go to C:\Program Files\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 9\data\skins

and then in each of the three sub-directories, remove the skin.bin file

and then try to relaunch the game in tracemode.
