I have another steam related question... (would love to know release date but I know thats in valves hands)

For the Steam version does it have its own installer through Steam... I bring this up because I use a 64bit distro for Ubuntu and have been having trouble getting it to install through the ootp installer..............

thanks!!!!

Steam has 75 million users - or shall I say potential OOTP customers?

Exactly. You don't like it, never use it.

But if Steam and OOTP Developments eventually give OOTP a mod Workshop and online multiplayer I can see a lot of people liking it.

What exactly is the benefit of installing through Steam?

Only games I have in Steam are because I have to.

I have both a desktop PC and a Macbook. I use steam for all of my games because many of the games can be played on both PC and Mac through steam. Once the game is activated with the Steam key, I can play it on any computer of my choosing. So let's say I activate a game and two weeks later, my hard drive crashes. Without steam, if I was out of activations, I would SoL. But with steam, I would just get a new hard drive, log in to the Steam client and all my games would be right there ready for download.

The one thing I don't know is if you still need your OOTP serial number in addition to your Steam key to activate. If the Steam key counts as 1 of your 2 activations, that would drastically diminish the value of the Steam key in my opinion.

I want to play it today but I don't want to be stuck out of a Steam copy so I might just wait a week or two. : \
I may be wrong but I thought only pre-orders got a steam key.

yes you do it all from steam: buying, downloading, playing. Plus it downloads any new patches by himself when you open Steam. Personally its an easy way to manage my games.

I have nothing against Steam but this is not accurate. If your hard drive crashes on any esellerate licences you can have it reset and resume the game on a new HDD or computer. Steam may be convenient and offer more freedom but such misinformation may confuse people who want to buy directly from OOTPD.

My favorite part about Steam is the community, it has reviews, discussion boards, game guides, and more. All in one place for your game. Of course many games have their own websites that can serve the same function but it is nice having it all in one place with one account.

Personally, I like installing through Steam so my friends can see what I am playing and when which might lead to someone inquiring about OOTP 15 and then VOILA! I have a new friend to discuss and play the game with.

Another thing I enjoy is it keeps track of how many hours I have logged on a game and it is neat to see which games I have played the most.

The biggest + is to the developers of the game though. With Steam the game will get much more sales and hopefully rise in popularity allowing OOTP Developments to be able to put more resources into future iterations in the game.

I wasn't trying to spread misinformation. I am not familiar with that feature of esellerate so I apologize but I was mainly referring to other games that may have been bought via physical copy. I know I used to play Spore and after 2 or 3 installs, the game locks you out. This would not happen with steam. Sorry about the confusion.

The community - guides, discussion boards, chats, achievements, badges, records etc. - is the obvious thing.

The subtler things are auto-updates and games recommended to you based on what you buy and play. Not to mention the amazing sales.

Multiplayer is huge on Steam.

Mod workshops are amazing - you just select what mods you want and Steam auto-installs them.

Then there's the fact that you can log into Steam from anywhere and download and game. You get two installs with OOTP and a buttload with Steam.

If you're old-fashioned, conservative, anti-social or stationary, then you likely won't be able to see the point of Steam. But 75 million Steam members around the world do see the point, and I am one of them.

Steam is reason i am pc gamer. the only reason is steam it give me lot more than what no other distrubtion. DRM to it iis not because u can play any time u want anywhere reinstall yup. i mean overall not just ootp. It feels not like drm. That to me is what makes drm haters like steam. Pluse L4D2 u want music of ur own there is creator for that. Mods ur game that can be mod ur way. I see steam as huge benefit it keeps most of my game in one place instead of have to remebering where the freak i put my cds. or video games lol. now it keeps me do i want to isntall this or not i can uninstall games. in short steam is awesome

OOTP 15 will be available on Steam ASAP. And once it is, pre-order OOTP 15 customers will be able to retrieve their Steam keys for the game through an online tool. We'll keep you posted

I really want it on Steam but I don't know if I can wait until it is released!
Only pre orders came with a steam key. You will either have to wait and buy it on steam when it gets released or just buy it and use it not through steam. I was kinda hesitant to buy this when it wasn't on steam, but i got it and it's amazing. It's my first time also and I recommend not waiting. I can't stop playing it, and then at work I can't stop thinking about what I am going to do next. Great game. Steam is unnecessary for this. And every other game I own is in steam.

Well let me tell you there are ways to make money through Steam by selling items and I have made enough to cover most of the cost of this game so yeah I will want to know when it is on Steam.

If you were to include people that purchase the game now from your site to the STEAM key offer I am sure your sales would go up.. I would buy it for my best friend but I will wait for STEAM and gift it to him there.........
