Game 1: Texas 4, Chicago 1- Villanueva gave up just one run and struck out eight over seven innings, but Shawn Camp and Carlos Marmol blew it late, allowing three runs to break a 1-1 tie. Lone Cubs run was on an Alfonso Soriano home run.

Game 2: Chicago 3, Texas 0- Dave Sappelt hit a two-run home run and the Cubs beat Yu Darvish- however, Joe Kelly left with an injury but shouldn't miss time. James Russell threw five shutout innings in relief for the win.

Game 3: Texas 7, Chicago 4- Samardzija was awful, allowing five earned runs over just 3 2/3 innings of work. Darwin Barney hit a solo home run in his return from the DL and Brett Lillibridge added three hits but Leonys Martin came up a home run short of the cycle for Texas.

Record: 8-8, T-2nd, 0.5 GB
Next: First place Milwaukee (8-7) for a crucial three game series.
