Some of you guys are flat out idiots......
Name: Questdog Hometown: Williamstown, KY Current City: Williamstown, KY (near Cincinnati) Favorite Team: Cincinnati Reds Year Born: 1962 Do I prefer the DH? : No Starting Pitchers (Pick five)- Lefty Grove Walter Johnson Randy Johnson Sandy Koufax Tom Seaver Relief Pitchers (Pick two)-There is no such thing as all-time great relievers who were not either closers today or stoppers back in the day, so I'll pick 3 of them. Aroldis Chapman Billy Wagner Tom Henke P.S. I could just as easily have picked Mariano Rivera, Goose Gossage and Rollie Fingers. All 6 were awesome and above anyone else, I think. Closing Pitcher (Pick one)- C-Johnny Bench - anyone who ever saw him play before the lung issue knows no one else was even close. 1B-Lou Gehrig 2B-Joe Morgan 3B-George Brett SS-Honus Wagner - would love to have seen him play. By contemporary accounts he was not graceful, but effective as a fielder. LF-Ted Williams CF-Willie Mays RF-Babe Ruth Subs (Pick 3, not pitchers)- Pete Rose, Ty Cobb, Stan Musial Last edited by Questdog; 07-14-2015 at 01:25 AM. |

If I made Old Hoss Radbourn my pitcher, could I give the other seven pitching slots to hitters instead?

Pretty good does not equal all-time great,
Did you know that in 1986 he declined the offer from his manager to get him enough innings to qualify for the ERA crown and maybe take it from Roger Clemens? He said he did not think it would have been fair for a reliever to steal the title from a starter. The title would have been his if he could avoid giving up 15 earned runs in 5 innings. |

LF- Barry Bonds CF- Willie Mays RF- Babe Ruth Subs (Pick 3, not pitchers)- Ted Williams, Hank Aaron, Stan Musial

So I wanted to thank the 13 of you who have posted teams so far. This is a good turnout! At this point I'm going to reveal my personal team, just if anyone was curious. It's really not the greatest, but it's guys I'd want to have playing. If you all know anyone who could fill out a team, then please ask them to do so, as my goal is about 100 people for every state. Thanks again!
Name: Red14 Hometown: Albuquerque, New Mexico Current City: Carbondale, Illinois (though I've recently lived in Dayton, Ohio and Austin, Texas) Favorite Team: St. Louis Cardinals Birth Year: 1995 DH:No SP- Nolan Ryan SP- Randy Johnson SP- Bob Gibson SP- Sandy Koufax SP- Phil Niekro (Come on, who doesn't love a good knuckleballer) RP- Aroldis Chapman (Saw his fast ball from first row seats) RP- Bruce Sutter CP- Mariano Rivera C- I really want to put Yadi Molina here, he was on pace to surpass Bench, but his last couple years have been down so I have to go with Johnny Bench. 1B- Lou Gehrig 2B- Roberto Alomar! This man was a stud 3B- Pete Rose, he started 634 games here. SS- Derek Jeter, the man was the symbol of my childhood. LF- Lou Brock, total Cards bias, but 3000 hits and 2nd all time in steals. CF Willie Mays, GOAT in my opinion RF- Ichiro, again just loved this guy growing up. Subs- Babe Ruth, Stan Musial and Rogers Hornsby |

I love, love, love watching knuckleballers pitch.
I think it was this game, but my father and I were at Candlestick park, Giants vs Marlins. We got there a little early, and we were sitting near the Marlin's bull pen. 46 year old Charlie Hough was standing on one of the bull-pen mounds, smoking a cigarette. He puts his arms over his head and stretches left and right. My dad turns to me and says, "I'm glad to see Charlie Hough still around baseball. He must be a great coach, because he was a heck of a ballplayer." Me: "He's the Marlin's starting pitcher tonight."

Do the Negro League Players show up at all in OTTP historical simulations? Because if not I'm filing a complaint. I unlocked Satchel Paige in the MVP video game as a kid, he threw a 105 MPH fastball, a 59 MPH knuckle and a 69 MPH curve. Though this is probably exaggerated, if the stories about him are half true, he would still be one of the best to play the game.

I have a soft spot for all the guys who should never, ever have been professional athletes. Whether it's the old guys like Hough, Niekro, Jamie Moyer and Julio Franco, or the fat guys like John Kruk, or the little guys like David Eckstein and Jose Altuve, they always end up being my favorites. Of all non-Angel players, Altuve is probably my current favorite. That guy is ridiculous.
