well maybe if Ruth's uniform number wasn't #61 he'd do better. You're practically rubbing it in his face he's no longer the HR king.

real life babe ruth didn't have to face a stretch of starting pitching that may have consisted of: deGrom, sale, verlander, Kershaw, kluber, syndergaard, walter Johnson, Clemens, Nolan ryan, greg maddux, bob Gibson, etc every single week

Even with that, we are now supposed to accept that a Perfect Babe Ruth is a .199 hitter and Honus Wagner strikes out 200 times a season? Sorry, but if that is true, the game balance is laughable.

Same could be said in reverse. Those pitchers don't/didn't face stacked lineups IRL every start.

Ruth isn't going through a mere slump. Some of us have even named what's going on after him ("The Ruth Effect"). As you progress through the leagues and get to stronger and stronger leagues, more and more of the hitter cards hit for power. Ruth still ends up with more homers than most cards but when almost no batter has weak power it isn't as extreme as it was in weaker leagues. And since there seems to be an overall "pot" of allowed HRs based on the era, Ruth's HR total will drop. (That's not even considering all the high-Movement SPs in the good leagues.) That's half the puzzle.
The other half is that a player's Contact rating depends in part on their Power rating. Contact isn't even a base rating; it's a combination of BABIP (which is hidden), AvoidK, and (slightly) Power. So in the top leagues high-Power guys tend to underperform both in terms of their home runs totals (as described above) and their batting averages (since their Contact ratings are overly optimistic). TLDR: because of how the game's underlying engine works, 100 Ruth will rarely be a great card in top leagues. That's too bad, but it's how OOTP is in ridiculously extreme environments such as top perfect leagues. |

This is very interesting and useful to know, if true. Can you tell me how you know this? Did the developers share this info or ...?

The BABIP stuff is on the forum if you search diligently for it. I don't have any links handy atm, sorry. The rest of it is based on personal experience in PT19. It's absolutely possible that the devs could pop up and say I'm full of it, so take my interpretation for what it's worth...but I'm pretty confident that Lukas is wrong in this case and that Ruth will habitually underperform in extreme league environments.
