1923 Offseason

Talks of a potential New York team grows with Joseph A. Chester (1872-1965), owner of Chester Food Produces has gained ownership of the new team though no name has been announced yet. More news in the following year.

The New York Hockey Club, as it is temporarily called will be joining the league for the 1924-25 NHL season.

In other news, the Hamilton Tigers are undergoing severe financial difficulties due to the lack of ticket sales and general small size of the fanbase. Talks of a relocation or folder have circulated though no such announcement has been made.

1923-24 NHL season

The Montreal Canadiens come out on top of the league after an incredible season, especially at home where they went 14-0-2 in 16 games!

Unfortunately for the Marlboros they had another very poor season, if they don't improve soon what will their future look like?

And finally, Hamilton. In the offseason there were rumours of a relocation or a folder, these rumours have been getting stronger as they finish last in the league for attendance, very rough for the young team.

Young Canadiens superstar Stéphane Lefebvre leads the league in points alongside Trent Kalmanovich. The young man is only 20 years old but he is looking to be the leagues next great player.

The Canadiens had three players in the top five of scoring, an impressive feat that they manage to do again. Scoring seems to be trending downwards in general compared to previous seasons, what will this mean for goalie statistics?

1924 Offseason

The New York Hockey Club has announced delays into joining the league due to the lack of a proper NHL arena in the area. The so called 'Madison Square Garden' Arena will be ready for the 1925-26 season.

In other news, the owner of the Hamilton Tigers have put themselves up for sale, the National Hockey League Press Office has stated that they would not approve a sale until after the 1924-25 season.

1924-25 Season
The Toronto Marlboros post their first winning season in their history, the first winning team Toronto has hosted since the Arenas a few years ago.

The Montreal Canadiens versus the Toronto Marlboros in the 1924-25 season.

For this season I gave ties one point, something I forgot to do in the previous years so that's why the point totals are different.

Canadiens forward Lefevbre leads the league in points for the second year in a row (nearly).

Garrett Frederick, a long time veteran and former scoring leader for quite a few leaders earlier on comes back after missing the entire previous season due to injury.

Scoring again trends downwards in the league.

The Montreal Canadiens win their SECOND Stanley Cup in a row! So far only teams from Quebec have won the cup, will this change anytime soon?

The New York Huskies join the league as the 6th franchise! They will be playing at 15,925 seated Madison Square Garden.

Unfortunately, many of the names/logos I would've wanted to name the teams were very hard to find. I spent a few hours looking for a good huskies logo acceptable for the era but I found nothing. As for Boston, I wanted to name them the shamrocks but again, no good logo. Then the St. Patricks but still, it's a shame but we'll do with what we have.

The Hamilton Tigers have relocated to become the Boston Bulldogs! They will be playing in the 4,666 seated Boston Arena for their inaugural season.

1925-26 NHL Season

Forgot to add this but due to the addition of six teams, the top four teams make the playoffs with the first seeded team playing the fourth and the third seeded team playing the second. In addition to this the league has added four games.

The inaugural New York Huskies have a horrible first season only winning one game out of thirty-six...The worst record so far.

Zack Boutin, the Canadiens Goalie posts an incredible 23-2 season with a 2.15 GAA. An incredible feat which truly shows that defense dominates the league.

1926 Offseason

The NHL has announced the expansion of two more teams for the upcoming 1926-27 season.

The Pittsburgh Hornets join the league! They will be playing in the 5,500 seated Duquesne Gardens

Team Logo

In addition, the Detroit Spartans have joined the league! They will be playing in the 4,500 seated Windsor Arena for their first season while a rink in Detroit is built.

To Compensate for the addition of two teams, the league has expanded to two different divisons.

The "American Divison" will host the Pittsburgh Hornets, Detroit Spartans, Boston Bulldogs, and New York Huskies.

The "Canadian Division" will host the Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators, Quebec Voyageurs, & Toronto Marlboros.

In addition, teams will be playing 40 games with the top three teams of each division making the playoffs.

1926-27 NHL season

The Toronto Marlboros have a great season, unfortunately they are playing in the stacked Canadian Division. Compared to the American Division it is much much more competitive, with no team having a sub .500 record.

The Bulldogs come out on top of the American division and surprisingly the Huskies come out second after arguably coming out of the worst season in NHL history

Last season's scoring leader Lefebvre was injured and missed most of the season.

After the success of the NHL in an American market, the league has approved two new expansion teams to begin play in the 1927-28 NHL season.

The Chicago Black Hawks have joined the league! They will be playing in the 6,000 seated Chicago Coliseum.

The other expansion team is the New York Rangers! After seeing the success of the Huskies, Madison Square Garden management decided to look to buy a franchise for itself.

In other news, the Detroit Spartans move to the 11,000 seated Detroit Olympia Arena.

To work around having six american teams, the New York Huskies have agreed to move to the Canadian division.

The league has expanded to 44 games with 6 teams making the playoffs, three from each division.

1927-28 NHL season
The 1927-28 NHL season was a very interesting one. Trent Kalmanovich, a forward for the Boston Bulldogs set a new record in points and goals in the league with 73 and 36 respectively. While Bulldogs forward Brad Jones set a record for assists in 43!

Veteran goalie Nicolas Lepage for the Quebec Voyageurs set a new record for wins in a season with 30 and 11 shutouts! While Matt Merrill, a young goalie for the Ottawa Senators set a record save percentage with .922!

A seasons of record indeed, especially with the Voyageurs' incredible season, but a question must be asked, even with the longterm success of the Voyageurs is the Quebec City market big enough to sustain a team?

Unfortunately for the Senators, even if they posted a great record they were playing in the most competitive division, meaning they will not be making the playoffs.

The Rangers and especially the Black Hawks have a terrible first season, it's not unexpected considering the lack of talent on each of their squad but it still does not look good for either franchise.
