How do you 'download' the skin files? I'm using the classic skin, but when I look in the directory for the files you referenced I only see defaults.cfg and skin.bin.

Make sure you are starting the game as administrator (right-click the game start icon and choose Properties/Compatibility/Run this program as an administrator). Funny thing, that. If you DON'T run the game as administrator, it seems to download and install the skin files in Add-Ons Central but it actually doesn't do anything. Something about Windows. Don't forget to delete the skin.bin file when you are done.

Well, I hope so! The ideas should be the same.

I tell you, the more I use this year's Classic Skin, the more I like it (with those two minor changes that I described above). Everything crisp and clear, harmonious, and easy on the eyes. If OOTPB 21 is the end of the line for me, I am very happy.

Running as Admin doesn't seem to make a difference for me. I still don't get any additional files in the Skins subdirectories.

It's unbeatable, especially with these tweaks you were nice enough to post.

I've spent months covering up parts of this when I've posted screenshots to my stories, I suppose I could have saved a ton of time had I just fixed in in the game once

When I was going through the process for OOTPB 21, I updated some notes that I had taken awhile back. The first paragraph reveals that I, too, had a problem similar to yours in the past:

Skin Files Notes

For programming reasons, the game may not be able to install skin files from Add-On Central. If that is the case, open the skin_files zip file and manually extract the skins folder to the C:\Program Files (x86)\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 1X\data\skins folder.

Also for programming reasons, OOTP may need to be run as administrator for it to recognize when to rebuild the skin.bin file so as to use image customizations in the skin folder. Right-click the OOTP program icon, choose Properties, click the Compatibility tab, and choose "Run this program as an administrator." Click Apply, then OK.

Images in each of the three skin folders can be edited. The game will not reflect the changes unless the following procedures are followed. End the game before proceeding.

The edited image files should be included in all skin folders. In each folder, locate the skin.bin file and change the extension to .old. This is just in case; the old bin file can be reused merely by changing the file extension back to .bin.

Now restart the game. Whatever skin was selected in preferences will now be rebuilt. The game hesitates for about a minute while starting up in order to rebuild the skin. Basically, it is taking a snapshot of the images in the skin folder and the settings are stored in a new skin.bin file.

The game will then start as normal. Check to see that desired image changes have been put into effect.

Note that the rebuilding of the skin.bin file happened only for the current skin selection. To ensure that the other skins will be ready if and when they are ever selected, go to OOTP Preferences and change the Current Skin to the other selections. The game will hesitate for the same minute or so while it is rebuilding each skin.bin file.

Here is a link to the Classic Skins zip file that I successfully downloaded from Add-Ons Central this time; I kept it just in case of emergencies:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_cQ...ew?usp=sharing

The file is clean but you shouldn't take my word for it. Scan it with your own anti-virus program.

Ah, but it's a thing of beauty, isn't it? Maybe it's the news of the company being sold that intensifies my feeling of satisfaction with what I have now, but my heart leaps every time I experience this year's Classic Skin.

Sorry. I will shut up about it now.

In the future, you can purchase a loot crate that has a 1 in 20 chance of giving you a wood grain theme

Thanks for the shared file. That allowed me to use the image from the original post and it looks great.

My pleasure. For next year, they should consider returning the wood grain motif to the Classic Skin, IMO. And get rid of that overlay in the pre-game lineups screen. With those two changes, this year's Classic Skin is darned near perfect. Even the Icon Bar, which I don't choose to use to save screen space, is well done.

By the way, I will take this opportunity to share my Award and Mood icons here. The Award icons are the result of my hunting, gathering, and editing but the Mood icons were somebody else's contribution from years ago. I forget his forum name but I remain quite grateful for his work.

My custom award is "Most Popular Player" which explains the heart icon. I am currently using only the first 10 icons which are the ones properly named to coincide with skin image files:

Yes, but photographs did not. Funny though; I never thought that you could think of those images as looking at the players over the top of their dossiers rather than as their photos pinned to them.

A bit of graveyard humor, that.

OK, let's talk ratings bars. I toyed around with replacing the various bars with blank files...but all the empty real estate just looked, well, lonely. The bright colors don't seem to go with the Classic theme. Anyone play around with alternatives and have something to share?

Why would you replace them with blank files when you can just disable them?
