This is a condensed version of something that I posted in the 'looking for second opinion(s)' thread this morning. I'm re-posting part of it here because it may be of interest to those seeking data on the new drops...apologies for semi-duplicate post.
![]() Above is my pitching staff for the second half of this week's Diamond season. Hudson and Waddell are my back-ups in case somebody self destructs. If you count, there are five of the new prime performers in there and, trust me, I tested every one of the new drops. The worst of the new pitchers? Tanana, Rijo and Price all had ERAs over 12.00 in multiple appearances. The others (besides the five shown above) all were between 5.50 and 9.75). You may not agree, but that's my team data and assessment for FWIW. Bottom line: Gagne, Rixey, Kaat, Wells, Scott = GOOD. Tanana, Rijo, Price = VERY BAD. Waddell = Uncertain, possibly good. The others = mostly not playable in Diamond.

Rijo has 1.5 WAR as a reliever for me. 53 appearances, 3-7 10 saves 3.03 ERA. 74 IP, 58 HA, 3 HR, 39 BB and 66 Ks (1.3 WHIP, 0.4 HR/9 and 8.0 K/9) By far the best reliever on my team in double the innings Gagne has. If you're letting pitchers throw 10 games and considering them trash, you really need to explore baseball sample sizes.

I admit it. I didn't try ALL of the new perfect performer pitchers. I sold a few immediately because the prices were so attractive. Those that come to mind are Smoltz, Harvey and Brown. They may, in fact, be playable. Sorry if I misled anyone. Was just trying to be helpful. Still, Gagne has 23 of 24 save opportunities and 1.67 ERA in Diamond. He's the real deal.
