We finished the regular season with an 87-75 record and found ourselves tied with St. Louis atop the NL Central standings!
We won 5 of our last 6 games in the regular season, including 2 of 3 vs the Brewers just to get to this point. Milwaukee lost game 162 vs Pittsburgh. Had they won, we would have had a 3 way tie in the NL Central. In game 163, we went to extra innings. We scored 3 runs in the top of the 10th, but gave up 5 runs and lost on a walkoff homer by backup catcher Julio Rodriguez (not the Seattle prospect). ![]() Next, we faced off in the NL wildcard game vs the Arizona Diamondbacks (who finished 91-71). Our starting pitcher left in the first inning with a hamstring stain, but our bullpen held it together. Ultimately, it didn't really matter because our hitters obliterated the opposing pitchers and put up 21 runs!!! ![]() Next up, we will face the Los Angeles Dodgers, who steamrolled the league to finish with a record of 114-48!!! There was actually a fairly even league wide competition this season. Rays, Phillies, Cardinals and Mariners all led their respective divisions with less than 90 wins! ![]() Here is our regular season pitchers stats. ![]() Hunter Greene had an amazing year! Atfer posting a BB/9 over 4 last year, he had a BB/9 of only 2.4 this year! He gets the ball in game 1 vs LAD. Nick Lodolo followed up a terrific rookie year with a very successful sophmore season. He was somewhat lucky as his FIP is about 0.75 runs higher than his ERA. Vladmir Gutierrez had a strong first half and a poor 2nd half. He will be in a relief role this postseason. Brandon Marklund is not included on the playoff roster, Franco Aleman is in AAA and Tejay Antone is injured for a few more months still. Here is our regular season batters stats. ![]() Joey Votto has been hurt since September 17th and his recovery time is listed as "unknown". What a massive hit our lineup takes without having his bat. Masahi Yokoyama had a great first season. Mostly used only vs RHP and splitting time between LF & RF. Had he qualified for a batting title, he would have been 10th in on base % with .384. Teoscar Hernandez took awhile to get his bat going after coming over in a trade but finished with an OPS of .799 with us (.836 overall). Jesse Winker really struggled after missing the first four months of the season. Jonathan India had an up and down year and finished with an OPS of .808. We will likely be moving him over to 1B next year. Tyler Callihan and Michael Siani are both in AAA. Michael Taylor was left off the playoff roster. Our next update will be the playoff recap and we will see how we made out vs the league's top team! |
