We have signed RP Jayden Cabbagestalk (0.5, 0.5) to a minor league contract. We only signed him because of his last name.

Victor Cervantes was off, Diego Flores was on. O's lost 3-4.

WP: Diego Flores (8-11)
LP: Victor Cervantes (18-1)
SV: Michael Jones (24)

Lots has happened today. Let's review.

A few days ago, the New York Yankees had placed 3B D.J. Mitchell (2.5, 2.5) on waivers. This was a surprising move as Mitchell had been a mainstay for the club since the beginning of the save in 2021, playing in 893 and batting .292/.345/.754 with 54 HR and 353. He put up 15.4 total WAR in that time.

This being said, the Orioles claimed him off waivers and took an opportunity to trade him. Here's the official transaction log.

- Baltimore trades 3B D.J. Mitchell (retaining 100%) to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for SP Tyler Quick (2.5, 3.5) and 2B Dan Waggoner (2.5, 3.0). Tyler Quick has pitched in 91 career games (42 starts) with a record of 23-21, an ERA of 4.47, and 362 strikeouts in 350.2 innings.

Dan Waggoner was subsequently placed on Triple AAA Irving's roster, while this happened to Tyler Quick...

- Baltimore trades SP Tyler Quick (retaining 80%), along with LF Danny Prado (0.5, 1.5), RP Tony Victoria (0.5, 1.5), C Carlos Rivera (0.5, 1.0), and SP Adrian Mallicoat (0.5, 2.5) to the Columbus Sea Lions in exchange for CL Alex Sierra (2.5, 4.0).

This trade got rid of a bunch of prospects that had no future in the league as well as acquire a relief pitcher to bolster our future bullpen. Tyler Quick could have contributed for Baltimore, but there is currently no room for him in the rotation or roster, even with Tyler Boykin injured.

Alex Sierra has been assigned to Triple AAA Irving. So far this season, he has put up a 1-5 record, an ERA of 4.84, 47 strikeouts in 35.1 innings pitched, and 19 saves in Double AA.

- 3B Preston Ballard (5.0, 5.0) returned from the 10-day Injured List today, allowing him to slot back into the lineup. In a corresponding move, the Orioles optioned SS Alvaro Gonzalez (3.5, 3.5) to Triple AAA Irving. Gonzalez had not played well for Baltimore in that stint, hitting .242 and playing shaky defense. Glad to have Preston Ballard back!

Also on the Injured List:
- SP Tyler Boykin (Torn UCL, 10 months recovery time)
- RP James Rusnak (Sore Wrist, 2 days recovery time)

CF Mike Hall and 2B Joe Miller are dealing with day to day injuries

- Baltimore has placed CF Mike Hall (4.0, 4.0) on the 10-day injured list. This makes sense because even though he's only expected to miss five days, he is still dealing with two injuries that limit his throwing ability (bruised thumb and elbow contusion, ironic then that he had an outfield assist). His bat had also been struggling recently, so he also gets an opportunity to rest.

In a corresponding move, the Orioles have called up SS Alvaro Gonzalez (3.5, 3.5) from Triple AAA Irving.

The game against Cleveland was postponed due to bad weather. A make-up game is schedule for the next day.

But more importantly, some sad news...

- RF Scott Kinsey (5.0, 5.0) has been diagnosed with torn ankle ligaments after making a diving catch, and will miss three months of action. He has been placed on the 60-day Injured List and is out for the rest of the season, including the playoffs. His final 2028 stats: 100 games, .290/.430/.979, 25 HR, 80 RBI, 6.5 WAR.

- LF Enrique Cruz (2.5, 2.5) has been promoted to Baltimore, where he will eventually make his Major League debut.
