Having played a lot of bad games in my time and completely been turned off from the game and the series after the experience I can tell you that if a developer says the game isn't ready I'm inclined to believe them.


I'd rather anticipate a game in November that works than play a bugged version in October that turns me off. I still won't buy any Wolverine Studios games after trying to get one of the buggy basketball management games to work years ago.

Not releasing a buggy game and zero communication are two vastly different things. Can’t get excited when I know nothing. Either way it’s not like FH8 and FHM9 don’t have bugs. There’s still a facegen bug that’s been there since atleast FHM7.

We're not ready to talk about it yet. We're getting close, but we're not there. By announcing anything or discussing it more than we want to, people speculate or take our words out of context which doesn't help anything. We have lots to share in time, but until then, you'll have to hold on.

I'd love more marketing for the game, but I don't blame them for not wanting to show what isn't ready either. I'm anxious for the game already and I'm sure once they do finally reveal it I'll be even more excited.

There’s a big difference between zero communication and not getting the communication you want. There’s been plenty of communication regarding the game not being ready yet, something being announced towards the end of the month, the timeline being similar to last year’s, etc. That’s just not exciting to you. If the game’s a month or two away, why would you expect them to get you excited? They want you to be excited about the game when it’s about to go on presale, and we sure as hell don’t want them to put the game on presale before it’s anywhere near ready.

I want the game as much as anybody, but if it’s not ready then it’s not ready.

Agreed... it's a shame they can't get this game out early like they can with baseball. I think this is going to be the first year I don't bother with the new version and just stick with last year's game. The excitement for a game, to me, comes with the build up and anticipation of the season starting soon. That's already come and gone.

There has been zero communication. Sorry, it's just true. And I get that this game is probably on the back burner most of the year compared to baseball, but there's just no excuse for it to lag behind the season. The juice is gone from this year already, at least for me. FHM 9 works just fine. But if they want to keep excitement in a product they have to at least remember it exists enough to mention it, and tease it, once in a while.

I agree on that one. From a marketing perspective, it's a missed opportunity. I think the core fans are happy that there is a new version and we understand that creating a new year on a short timeframe (a year) is quite a challenge. Ok with a release anytime during the Fall. But I could be the occasion to know more, what is on the developpers' mind. Give breadcrumbs.

They have communicated on their weekly Twitch stream and I've relayed that here on the forum.

Zero communication…besides the communication that I listed in the post you’re replying to? It’s literally right there. Digressing, you’re still talking about what they should be doing if they want people to be excited, as if I didn’t just explain to you that they have no reason whatsoever to care if you’re excited right now.

They want you to be excited when you can buy the game. You can’t buy the game right now, because it’s not ready. (How do I know that? That’s right, because they’ve communicated that.) Telling us what’s in the game a month before we can buy it isn’t going to generate a single sale, and runs the risk of producing lowering sales because the excitement could dissipate by release day. It’s nice for the loyal, die hard fans that are going to buy on day 1 no matter what to know what they can look forward to, but the casual fans need to be targeted when the game is available, not year round or weeks/months ahead of time.

I don’t watch twitch. I don't even see a link to it on these forums.

And yes some people have relayed information. No offense but I’d rather hear that from people who actually are associated with the game. AdamB's comment in this thread is the first I've seen anybody actually associated with the game comment anything at all about it.

You know what they say, out of sight out of mind. Opening week would have been perfect time to remind the casual forum observer or casual hockey fan that a new game is coming. You don't have to list every single new thing in detail at that time.

Our focus and attention is often on our Social Media/Discord platforms because more often than not that's where those questions are. We stream the same time every week on Twitch, which is even linked in FHM9 (and I believe 8 as well).


Being that this thread seems to be devolving into arguments, I'm going to lock it for now.

The truth is no matter what we do we will never satisfy everyone. I said this on our official Discord earlier in the week;

"While I understand your excitement for our next game, we work hard on our game and our marketing. Sometimes we choose to do things for specific reasons that are not always public knowledge. We feel confident in what we are doing and look forward to bringing it to our fans when it's ready."
