I've seen this many times for MLB guys actually in the seasons where they played IRL - they'll come in juiced up, have an off-the-charts rookie season and then tank for a few years or permanently. For mine, the whole import process is often hinky and have posted about it in the bugs forum numerous times. I think it all comes down to the fake HS / COL stats the game feels compelled to generate for Draftees but the higher-ups continually pooh-pooh this idea.

I compiled data from America's Team 1975 and posted about the problem to the general discussion forum where it is more likely to get the attention of the devs.

Here you go.

As a preview, the 1975 percentages are much higher than 1964.

SPs 34%
RPs 45%
Position Players 19%

I have a question and figured you would be someone that might know the answer. Are players in the historical minors db subject to recalc? I don't think they are. How would the "make bads" work if they are?

AFAIK they are and it works the same as for any player, except of course there's the added penalty associated with the stats being minor league. Therein, I think, might be one of the problems here as a lot of these guys only play for a few seasons, realise they are going to have to get a "real" job and leave the game before their stats decline a la the Sandy Koufax deal discussed elsewhere.

How else to explain guys like this? It can't all be TCR...

Oh no, is this guy taking playing time away from Lavar Burton?

You'll have to explain that reference, DW - as an Aussie it went straight over my thick head...

Are you using development in these games or recalc only? Also, by any chance, were these games created in OOTP23 or an older version of OOTP24? There were some major issues with minor league player ratings calculations in earlier versions of OOTP24, where players with great A level or AA level stats were getting MLB-level ratings. This was tweaked and mostly eliminated in later versions, but I've still seen a few cases here and there. Also, if you're using development, you're always going to see career minor leaguers develop and do better than they did in real life, but I'm assuming that you're using recalc.

Even if you're using recalc and it's a newer saved game or you're using a newer version of OOTP24, you could still see a fair bit of these results. I posted some details on this in the main forum, but, if these are players who had quite good AAA stats in real life, then this is going to happen. They will have good MLB-level ratings, and the AI doesn't discriminate based on whether they ever made the majors. It's going to go with whoever has good ratings and recent stats. That's where your settings for current, last-season, and two-years-ago stats come into play. If they're posting really strong simulated stats in AAA, that can potentially influence their opportunities, and if they get to MLB and post good stats too, then the AI will be more likely to use them regularly and keep them in MLB.

I use 70/20/5/0 for my AI evaluating settings, and this helps make sure that things are overwhelmingly based on ratings and not based so much on stats, especially for the previous season and two years ago. It puts the AI on much more equal footing with the human GM in terms of evaluating who truly has the most value from an OOTP performance standpoint. This doesn't necessarily address what you're seeing, though, unless your stats evaluating settings are contributing to this.

Sorry, we're toggling - I just posted my replies over in that thread.

How does OOTP calculate that input since it doesn't add up to 100? I'm surprised it will accept the entry.

Ron Leflore would be the Tigers CF starting in late 74 and pretty much full time in 75. The Tigers actually signed Leflore when he was serving time in prison. A movie was made "One in a Million, The Ron Leflore Story" back in the day starring LeVar Burton

The Tigers signed Gates Brown when he was in prison. He liked to say that when he was in school he took English, math, hub caps, and wheel covers.

The Tigers had no Black players. Brown said he figured they'd have to have some Black players someday so he thought it was an advantage to him to be one of the few in the organization. Don't know if I'd have gambled that if I were him, but it worked out OK.

I didn't know about LeFlore and Burton.

The first number should have been 75. Or sometimes I use 70/25/5/0. So, in my settings, it always adds up to zero.

Gates Brown was loved by Tiger fans. If you get a chance look up the hot dog story.

In 1968 he had 100 PAs against RHP and 2 PAs against LHP.

Looked up the hot dog story. LOL.

I don't know which way to go with AI setting. I tend a bit of bias toward ratings because I think it helps AI make better trades and FA signings. OTOH, doing that causes AI to hit good rated guy hitting .200 in the cleanup spot all year.

Based on the comments in the thread about breaking players out of slumps, there is a lot of thought among OTTPers that slumps in OOTP are real, not the result of multiple random ABs happening to go the wrong way.

Right, then yes, I'm afraid he is. Ron went 6-for-20 early in the season and was sent down to AAA Evansville.
