This is illogical. You say the game has been going down. If true then it's happened with Markus in charge. Then you say losing him will make the supposed decline worse. I don't see your logic. This is a highly developed product. There's not much more to do. To make it worse you'd have to remove existing features or devise new features that disrupt the existing ones that work properly. Those, of course, could easily be removed when the problem is observed. There are some things that could be fixed. Hopefully they will be. However I'd say that a bigger threat to OOTP is the probability that with each new version the age of the average purchaser increases by one year. |

Minecraft immediately comes to mind. Dungeons and Dragons as well, although there are rumors that some multi-billionaire or other is about to purchase it from Hasbro.

I've been playing since 17 and the game is much, much better now than then. I don't know how you think it's been going down. The sims are more accurate, by a mile. |

I don't even play D&D anymore, but it just doesn't sit right with me. Fingers crossed! Oh, and I don't feel OOTP is going anywhere. Markus will still be around, so there is that too.

Nothing wrong really. Just the circumstances around it are classic Elon Musk, (threatening to buy Hasbro because he didn’t like the preamble of a book). But I’m sure, much like Twitter, Hasbro will soak him for a ton of money and then watch the company valuation plummet into the ground.

You know, BlueSky exists if you want to experience the nightmare that was the old Twitter. Personally, I don’t see the point you were trying to make. Twitter, because of him, now feels like it did before the Tumblr invasion: balanced, fun, and free from the constant fear of "triggering" some overly strict moderator.
As I said, there are alternatives if you prefer social media platforms that cater to a single point of view—whether on the right or the left.

That man doesn't owe anyone here anything. We've been really fortunate to be part of a game being built from scratch, with unparallel developer access and watching the growth over the years. I've long felt like any last version of OOTP has been good enough to play for a long time, so I feel confident you wouldn't give up your lifes work -- especially as good as it is -- only to see it ruined. I'm sure we'll get a game and we'll play it.
But as for MH, he should go live his life unencumbered. The game is just a game.

After following this game for 23 years one thing is certain; every time a change was made in ownership/merger, the common response was "The End Is Near". Even the one time the initial release of a specific version came off a lot worse than everyone expected, the team recovered.
I'm sure we will all have comments and issues with future releases, but I'm fairly certain the continuation of this game will continue until someone else comes out with something better - and 23 years has proven to me that simply isn't going to happen any time soon. Take a deep breath and take that next step.

Been playing since OOTP 5, and no question OOTP 25 is the best iteration yet. For those who say the game has been going downhill for the last several years, I'm curious what you've been looking for. Yes, there are some features that have gone away that I would have liked to see stay, but the ones that have come in far outweigh the ones that have disappeared.
Markus will be missed, but this hasn't been a one-man operation in a long time, and I'm sure the others will keep things going. |

You do not have the experience that Rain King has with the development team. They are not saying anything to anyone, it is just his experience and mine on how good this development team is.
TBH, no one is asking you to stay or forcing you. If this is your goodbye letter as well, just understand, Markus's letter was much better. |

It's like saying... "I was already going downhill as a baseball player due to aging, and then my leg got amputated." "This is illogical. You say you were declining as a baseball player for some time. If true then it's happened when you had your leg. Then you say losing your leg will make the supposed decline worse. I don't see your logic." i.e. the leg alone wasn't enough to prevent the other bad thing, but the leg getting amputated will still clearly have an effect. FWIW I personally figure that this is probably it, this is probably the end of OOTP and we'll never see another version, but Markus & his team have given us more than enough to remain a staple of my leisure & hobbies for years, if not decades. They owe us nothing. I'm just sad to see this whole thing go. And hey, if I'm wrong and there's an OOTP 26 and it's another step up from 25, then I won't be too upset about being wrong.
