It has also been mentioned by developers that it understands sample size (i.e. a guy who is 5 for 10 isn't going to be considered a superstar just because you have a heavy emphasis on current year stats).

I've used something along the lines of 30-30-25-15 for quite a while and think AI teams behave pretty realistically.
Thank you. I'm trying to prevent the AI from "giving up" on and waiving (or releasing) minor leaguers who still have not exhausted their minor league service time yet, and who still have the potential to at the very least make it to MLB as a secondary piece.

1) How does 30-30-25-15 work for the minor leagues and players who may only have one or two years of professional service?

2) Once the offseason starts, do you re-allocate the 30% from "current year" elsewhere since those stats would no longer then be counted as current year stats?

I don't redistribute. I feel like the game handles that pretty well already and I think it would potentially be disjointed to have, say, different evaluation settings for the off-season vs. the regular season (i.e. when you change things out...you are now changing the AI's perspective which they have previously been relying on). IMO, you want the "current season" stats to just slowly creep up in weight from the original offseason weighting.

I'd recommend testing for your specific questions about those type of minor leaguers.

I don't think there is any distribution that is likely going to be perfect. So, I've tried to find the one that smooths things out the most and I rarely see AI moves that give me major pause.

I also do not typically play as a GM myself (more often Spectator/God mode). I think for a better GM challenge having higher Ratings weight is generally more "difficult" but unrealistic IMO because you see teams moving on from players quicker than they would when more rated towards the stats.

Interesting. I had not thought of it that way.

For 25, I used 100-0-0-0 from the start of the season until mid-July. Then I'd go to 35-35-20-10 (or something along those lines) up until trading deadline day (apply changes now and recalculate GM tendencies), after which I'd go back to 100-0-0-0. Once the offseason started, I'd go to 35-0-35-30 (assuming that "current year stats) no longer applied. Once the new season started, I reverted back to 100-0-0-0.

What I noticed with this setup is that the AI almost never waived/released good or semi-good minor leaguers, which had previously happened regularly and annoyed me greatly.

The great thing about OOTP is that there isn't just one way to enjoy the game. And I appreciate the insights from users such as yourself who have much more experience than I do. Thank you!

It is interesting that OOTP moved to move weight on ratings in 25.

See chart under Prior Version Functionality HERE

No need to switch during the season. Unless things have changed recently, the distribution is prorated based on IP and PA.

FYI, ratings will always matter, even at 0, it's like a fail-safe.
