I have now been competing with Dean for about 4 seasons in the GMC and 11 in the NABL and have never questioned his value as a commish or a GM. He's a great guy with some very good teams.

Yeah when finances get out of whack it can really seperate a couple of elite teams from the pack.
I'm in a league that has two teams that are like this. One has merchandising revenue of 41 million, one with 35 million....the next highest is like 11 million....and alot of teams in the 5-7 million dollar range All the Market Sizes were reset to Average...but that can go up....merchandising revenue however will stay with in a range of where ever it starts at. I fear that over time this is going to create a huge inbalance in competition...atleast in the regular season. Only is season two but the team with the largest gap...also has a winning % of well over .700. I had my one rant on our forums...but I'm done. It turned into a me vs him kinda thing....so if no one else in the league sees it as a problem....than I guess I'll just have to live with it. |

![]() As a commish, I am all for being competitive, but as an owner I want to win.... the work I put into the trade chart - a fair chunk of time - is something extra for my team, not the league... |

For those intersted, the GMC introduced the following:
ONE-TIME correction of finances A) Top Revenue Stream teams are scaled back to $100m (affects 4 teams) B) Low Revenue Stream teams are brought up to $65m (affects 5 teams) This will lower the gap from $69m to $35m.... Luxury Tax Introduced Luxury Tax is a way of allowing the free spenders to do what they want, but giving them a dis-incentive to do so. The Luxury Tax takes a look at Total Expenses at the end of the season, following the World Series. A) Between $90m - $95m, teams are taxed at $0.50 on the dollar (rounded up) B) Between $95m - $100m, teams are taxed at $0.75 on the dollar C) Over $100m, teams are taxed at $1.00 on the dollar |

My league has a very similar problem (although my winning hasn't gone on as long and my revenue isn't as high). We plan on introducing a luxury tax in the offseason, but I'm not sure how much it'll affect me.
The problem is on one hand, it gets kinda boring just cruising with a team that good. On the other hand, I always seem to get eliminated from the playoffs, so it can't be THAT good. ![]() The main issue is that although part of me wants to rebuild and start fresh, the common sense part that says not to rebuild a 120 win team that's making a profit takes over. We may possibly restart with the release of V6, so then that would solve the problem anyway. ![]() Sorry to semi-hijack your thread... I just wanted to state that it's not odd for a commish to have a good team. Naturally, there'll be owners in your league who think you're cheating with no actual evidence other than the win-loss record. They usually piss me off. But as long as you're not actually doing anything wrong try not to let it bother you. Just try to do what's best for the league, but don't purposely compromise your team for it. This is important I feel so it gets its own paragraph. When a commish owns a team ANY DECISION THAT COMBINES THE ROLE OF OWNER/COMMISSIONER SHOULD BE AVOIDED. Most people think of this as cheating by making your team better, and although it's not a normal type of cheating, making your team purposely worse for the benefit of the league still should not be done, as when you're playing the "owner" role, your job is to make the team better. The two roles should not collide. I'm done. Sorry about all that.

I was in this league (GMC) back when it was in OOTP2-3. Computer issues forced me to leave the league....it was one of the best leagues I was ever involved with and Dean Gordon was the 2nd best commish Ive ever been in a league with (Fidel Montoya of Asahi2 being the best).....

Not only can it happen. It can happen when the GM is not the commish or even in any sort of official role in the league.
Check out this guy. San Diego Team Index - HFTC History Yeah he is in my league so I am biased and yes sometimes his methods rub people wrong (and make commishes life a nightmare, ain't easy being commish!), but you know his fans ain't complaining. Bear in mind this is a 30/32 (expanded in 2010) team league that rarely has openings and never had a full season with a vacant team. So this guy is competing against 30+ other folks no AI for almost 6 real life years and puts up those numbers... demands respect. There was an old thread where someone was taking nominations from commissioners for best GMs to start a league of only these nominated GMs. I nominated Eric for this league, but I don't think it got off the groud. I wish it did, I bet he would do well in any league. |
