Brad Turner has been given the role many thought he should have had since spring training. Both players seemed to take the news in stride with Carr remarking “what can I say? I want to close but wanting and doing are two very different things. I'm not doing the job. Chad deserved better after all that last night and no one feels worse than I did.” “I just throw the ball when they tell me to” the 29-year-old 3 time Gossage Award winner Brad Turner remarked. 5/21: Detroit 10 Florida 3 W-I Taylor (2-4 6.45) L-Balderas (2-1 4.55) HR: FLA-Cortezo (9) Hayashi (7) DET-Ogarro (9) Pannebaker (9) POTG: Pannebaker 3-5 HR 2 RBI (27) Nakamura 3-4 R Balderas 5.1 IP 9 H 4 BB 8 ER 5/22: Detroit 9 Florida 5 W-Sato (6-3 4.60) L-Pollock (4-3 4.05) HR: LV-Piggue (2) FLA-Funicello (2) Hayashi (8) POTG: Hayashi HR 4 RBI (26) Pollock 4 IP 6 H 4 BB 5 ER Hallamore 3-5 2B (10) SB (21)

GM'S OFFICE I am beginning to pare down the minor league rosters. I need to shorten the rosters a bit to get the prospects more playing time. I also have a pressing issue. I acquired OF Chad Linn from Texas in a trade 2 years ago. He's 24 and blossoming into the stud our scouts said he would. He had a great 2010 .295/.358/.513 with 24 HR and 86 RBI's He's on pace for 26 2B 10 3B 36 HR and 111 RBI's at Alamogordo. The problem? He's an asshole. I cannot find even one guy in AAA, player, coach or clubhouse guy, that likes this young man. He appears to be aware f that, but doesn't care. He has no place in this organization so I need to find a way to maximize the return. He's the ABA's 69th rated prospect and could be called up right now with no problems performance wise. 5/25: OFF DAY 5/26: Florida 13 Memphis 11 W-Ballard (3-0) L-Camp (1-1) S-Turner (5) HR: FLA-Chase (13) Makowski (1) MEM-Goodman (14) Ansell (7) POTG: Dan Goodman 3-4 HR 2 RBI Adams 3-5 2 2B (11) 2 RBI (23) Willoughby 3.2 IP 11 H 3 BB 9 ER Eric Parsons (OK) shut out Austin 6-0 to win his 4th (4-3 3.95) 5/27: Memphis 10 Florida 8 W-Camp (2-1) L-Balderas (2-2 5.67) S-Birch (12) HR: FLA-Chase (14) MEM-Malveaux (12*) Goodman (15) POTG: Dan Goodman 3-4 HR 4 RBI (39) Saldana 3-5 2 RBI (27) Chase 2-4 HR 4 RBI (46) Funicello 3-5 RBI (18) Luis Anguiano (OH) Struck out 10 in beating St Louis 9-0. I keep talking to various GM's and there is a ton of desire but I can't get comfortable with any deals yet. I think I'm also going to ensure he ends up in the NL. Tyshawn Ogarro leads all AL Vote getters. Chase, Hallamore, Turner lead at 3B, SS and RP respectively. Funicello, Cortezo, and Bursey are all in the mix. Former Tarpon Mike Haupt leads all NL Vote getters. GM'S OFFICE Toying with the idea of trying to pare down payroll without losing talent. I was speaking with some folks in Oklahoma about some minor league matches we may have when the discussion switched to Ismael Saldana. That grew to 2nd place finisher in the NL MVP voting last year left fielder Dave Grohs. In case you don't remember Grohs hit .370/.447/.645 with 46 HRs and 138 RBI's. The deal then reigned in Juan Flores and their 2nd round pick (46th overall). In the end, I could not pull the trigger. Grohs is an FA at years end and both Saldana and Flores are locked in. However, I know that's a potential route now should I choose to go that way. I have McMullen in AAA who is going to be a stud. I have Elizondo in left as the RHH hitter in that platoon. The biggest issue is our scout's rate Grohs and Saldana as very similar players. The one big difference is Grohs hits lefties far better than Saldana (both are LHH). 6/2: St Louis 2 Florida 1 W-Morales (3-5 3.58) L-Pollock (4-5 4.43) S-Lawrence (15) HR: NONE POTG: Morales 6.1 IP 4 H 1 ER 3 BB 7 K Pollock CG 8 IP 6 H 2 ER 3 K Mike Clary (NE) (5-6 4.64) struck out the and scattered 5 hits in New England's 9-0 rout of San Francisco. 6/3: St Louis 7 Florida 4 W-Nakai (1-0 5.16) L-Sugihara (6-4 3.56) HR: FLA-Chase (16) STL-Love (1) Granado (12) POTG: Chase 3-5 HR 3 RBI (53) Nakamura grounds out with the bases loaded to end it. MAY RECAP
Keizo Sato (A) took home Pitcher of the Month for Farmington. He was 3-0 2.04 (.4-2 3.20) Things are starting to clear up a bit. As usual Chicago and Ohio are back up top. Cannot remember the last time I saw Phoenix in the top half of the AL West. Denver's panicking as witnessed by them clearing house just a month in. Pittsburgh and Washington, again, in the NL East but is that Buffalo I see creeping towards .500? Austin went on a 1-9 run to move them out 7 games now but it's cool to see the organization starting to produce. LA and San Diego in the West, with the Bears getting red hot to join the race. Ben Chase is who I thought he was. Our starting pitching is anything but great but it's nice to see those two atop the leaderboard in wins. Turner's move to closer has stabilized the back end of the bullpen.

2011 draft
Here is the ABA listing of the top 10 prospects for this year's draft. St Louis has the 1st overall pick.
We are picking 24th in the 1st round, then 14th (38th overall) in the Supplemental round which has 17 picks. 2nd in the 2nd round (43rd overall) 18th in the 2nd round (59th) 3rd in the 3rd round (67th). The Surge selected USC shortstop Chad Donley as the top overall selection. He projects to be an SS or 3B with line to line power. Rd Pick Player 1) #24 Savion Galbreath 6' 195 A switch-hitting catcher out of Northwestern. Consensus pick and one we didn't expect to be able to have this late in the round. Projects as a legit 3 hole bat with power and is a bit better from the right side than left but not enough to warrant a platoon. Sup) #38 Mike Neal 5'10” 175 Right-handed power arm out of Illinois. Works 97+ with easy mechanics and has a Clydesdales stamina. While certainly not a leader he's a great teammate according to all reports. A bit on the small side for starters as far as we are concerned but the mechanics+stuff made it an easy pick. 2) #43 Curt Gardner 6'1” 180 Left-handed power arm out of Nebraska. Another kid who works consistently in the upper 90's with 225+ inning potential. Fastballs a little too straight right now but has all the makings of a top of the rotation arm. 2) #59 Joel King 6'1” 175 High school left-hander whose already sitting in the 90's. Huge upside projections and just 19 years old. 3) #67 Ted Sanders 6'7” 205 RH high school kid with huge physical presence. I wanted Chris Post, whom I believe is a huge power bat that shouldn't still be here. But our folks think Sanders will be gone by our next pick and there's some consensus this kid could be a legit #1. 4) Chris Post is still on the board and we take him. Many think it's an impossible sign but we will see. We don't pick again until the end of the 6th 6) Jim Landry 21 6'1” 195 LHH OF 7) Jerrod Wallach 21 6'2” 200 SWITCH OF 8) Pat Thomas 21 6'1” 190 RHH 2B 10) Pat Yaboah 21 6'2” 190 LHP

Aba at the break
What will the Austin Colts do? Great story to see them in the thick of things. Been awhile since Texas has been in charge at the break. Nothing freakish in the statistical races but some interesting numbers heading into the 2nd half. The left side of our infield will start for the AL in the all-star game. I think we could see both of them in the top 3 in the MVP voting.

Week 13
SCHEDULE:
3 @ Minnesota 3 @ New York 1 vs Detroit RESULTS:
TARPONS MINOR LEAGUE NEWS: Chris Linn continued his torrid 2011. The 2008 first rounder went 9-22 5 HR 13 RBI and is now hitting .332-25-74 for AAA Alamogordo. Unfortunately we are not seeing ANYTHING resembling maturation off the field. Teams lined up when I mentioned him as available but nothing close to enough value being offered back.

Week 14
SCHEDULE:
2 vs Detroit 3 @ Las Vegas OFF DAY 1 vs Memphis RESULTS:
GM'S OFFICE I managed to sign 2 16-year-old international free agents today. 16-year-old 3B Alfredo Luquin out of the Dominican and Kennan Saslove, a 6'5”16-year-old right-handed pitcher. Saslove was a 700K commitment and Luquin signed for 485. I have one outstanding offer out to Venezuelan 2B Jorge Mazzucato for 115K. I wasn't able to reach deep into this crop given our budget and our need to get to the postseason, deep into the postseason, to at least break even. There are some incredibly talent teenagers in this market including 3 asking north of 2 million. 16-year-old Ismael Tamayo out of Puerto Rico looks like the gem in this crop.
Doug Caputo ® went 10-24 2 HR 11 RBI to take home Rookie League A POTW (.358-3-24)

July recap
Familiar faces in familiar places. Jets, Miners? Check. LA? Check. Vegas? Ohio? Chicago? Check, check, check. Both eastern division races are over. Pittsburgh and Washington will both make the postseason, it's all about who has to play the extra game now. The other two AL races could prove interesting as could the AL and NL Wild Cards but right now there look to be only 1.5 actual races.
