BEST SKIPPERS SELECTED BY IPA
This year's IPA Manager of the Year Awards went to Rocco Belasario of the Arlon Champions in the Tycobbian Union and to Vanya Vasylenko of the Valmara Vipers in the Ruthlandian Union. Belasario, a Hall of Fame player, took his club from a seventh-place finish in 2042 to the TU West crown in 2043, improving the team record from 57-97 (37 GB) to 85-69. Valmara under Vasylenko climbed up from fourth in the standings to first place in the Ruthlandian North Division, rising up from a 75-79 mark (17 GB) to the top spot with an 84-70 record.

This was the second time the IPA has given Belasario the top skipper award. He also received it in 2039. Belasario beat out Todd Simons of North Hills and Mick Cronyn of White River for the Tycobbian Manager of the Year. Simons moved his club from third to first in the TU North, while Cronyn boosted his Rascals from sixth to second place in the TU North.

Vasylenko, a first-time honoree, had three tough competitors in the Ruthlandian race. Gibby Bobkins of the Sugar Valley Rattlers was second in the voting. He won the RU East this year after finishing third in 2042. In third place was the Ranford skipper Chris Bernhoffer, who guided his Bulls up from sixth place (19 GB) to a close second in the RU North. Number four in the poll was Crystal Lake's Baby George. The Crushers jumped from fourth (4 GB) in the RU South to first place.

DIVISION CHAMPS FORECAST IN IPA
Defending Pro Cup champion Valmara and Southport head up the list of division winners in the IPA. The Vipers were picked to repeat in the Ruthlandian North and the Sun Sox were chosen the best in the Tycobbian South. Otherwise, new division champions are forecast in the other six divisions. Valmara and Southport are expected to meet in the Pro Cup Finals.

Valmara is forecast to run away with the RU North, getting only token opposition from the LaGrange Sports and the Glasco Athletics... the Claxton Diamonds are to reign supreme in the RU South with San Dimas, Waleska and last year's winner Crystal Lake providing the most competition... a tight race is predicted in the RU East with Wynnamac a slight favorite over Eastshore and Elnora... the Beechwood Bobcats are only given an outside chance to win... Sugar Valley, last year's East Division winner, came in fifth in the poll... over in the RU West, Rocky Rapids looks like it will prevail in a very close race with last year's champ Volusia and the Middlefield Roosters.

In the Tycobbian North Division it will be a four-team tussle with the Blue Lake Blue Sox outperforming Fairfax, Hartsdale and last season's pennant winner and Pro Cup finalist North Hills... down in the TU South, defending division champ Southport gets a slight nod over the Cape Coral Hurricanes with Summerland and San Alejo close behind... in the RU East the cream of the crop is the Red Bluff Red Sox, who are expected to outduel last season's flag-winner South Fork and the Tuckanarra Blue Jays in a pretty close race... in the Tycobbian West Division, a four-team battle seems likely with Chicopee favored over last year's titlist Arlon, the Rolling Hills Reds and the Kenwood Wildcats.

RU STARS NIPS TU STARS 6-5 IN 13 INNINGS
In the 44th edition of the IPA All-Star Game, played at War Memorial Stadium in Valmara, Ruthlandia took advantage of terrible defense by Tycobbia to score five unearned runs and take a 6-5 decision in 13 innings... the TU Stars logged 7 errors in a very poor display of baseball... the Ruthlandian All-Stars won for the second straight season and cut the Tycobbia lead in the series to 28-16.

Ruthlandia was outhit 16-11 by the TU Stars... top hitters for the RU Stars were SS Mel Smith (Beechwood) and C Ryan Nelms (Taranto) with two hits apiece... LF Nioka Inkamara (Wynnamac) has the RU Stars only homer, a solo shot... Tycobbia was paced by six players with two hits each: LF Rikky Van Dalen (Cape Coral), RF Paolo Teixeira (San Alejo), C Corky DiNozzo (Kenwood), 3B Elton Jacoby (South Fork), RF Warren Sonnier (Turon) and 2B Jerry Culpepper (Bayview)... SS Kent Mantle (Cape Coral) homered in defeat for Tycobbia.

The game's Most Valuable Player was Sammy Wright (Cold Creek), who notched the victory with five innings of relief, holding the TU Stars to one run and three hits... he worked the final five innings of the game... the loser was Van Johnson, who tossed six and two-thirds innings, yielding two unearned runs on six hits.

IPA DIVISION ROUNDUP
Only one division is safe and secure in the IPA going into the final weeks of the season... the Southport Sun Sox have pretty much wrapped up the Tycobbian South with a 12-game lead over Summerland... three of the Ruthlandian divisions are fairly well decided with one of them in doubt... defending Pro Cup champ Valmara has a 6-game edge over Far Mountain in the RU North... in the RU South Crystal Lake is in front of runners-up Waleska and St. John by 7 games... and Rocky Rapids is up by 6 games over Forest City in the Ruthlandian West Division... but there is a tense, four-team battle going on in the hotly-contested RU East... Sugar Valley is a game ahead of second place Cold Creek, two up on Elnora in third place and three better than Wynnamac in the fourth spot.

Southport is far ahead in the Tycobbian South and will soon cinched the pennant... the Kenwood Wildcats head into September with a 5-game margin over last year's champ Arlon in the TU West... however, the other two divisions are going down-to-the-wire... last season's division winner North Hills has the lead in the TU North by 2 games over tough Blue Lake... and it's a two-team duel as well in the Tycobbian East between the defending champ South Fork and the revived Red Bluff Red Sox... the Stallions trail by two games with 18 left to play.

2044 IPA REGULAR SEASON COMES TO A CLOSE
The Wynnamac Sundowners, Crystal Lake Crushers and the Red Bluff Red Sox won dramatic showdowns to capture three of the eight spots in the IPA Pro Cup playoffs. The Sundowners had to win a tense three-way playoff from last year's division champ Sugar Valley and Elnora to take the Ruthlandian East pennant. It was the second time in three seasons they have won the division. The Crushers held off the Waleska Westerners in the Ruthlandian South by 2 games to garner their second title in a row and third in five seasons. The Red Sox edged out the South Fork Stallions in the Tycobbian East race, also by a pair of games. The Stallions won the division the previous three seasons. This was Red Bluff's first division crown since 2009.

All of the other division champions won fairly comfortably. IPA Defending Pro Cup holder Valmara whipped Claxton by five games in the RU North to get a chance to repeat as the Islandian champion. Rocky Rapids finished five games ahead of the Middlefield Roosters and Forest City Lumberjacks. The Snappers ended a 25-year postseason drought. The Southport Sun Sox ran away with the Tycobbian South, winning an IPA-best 104 games and coasting in 17 games better than the Summerland Sunsets. That gave the Sun Sox three division titles in a row. In the TU West the Kenwood Wildcats had a fairly easy time, topping Denton City by 7 games. It was the Wildcats third pennant in four seasons. North Hills won its 10th flag in the last 11 years in the TU North, but it was a tough task. The Hawks won by only four games in a season-long struggle with Luxora, Hartsdale and Blue Lake.

VIPERS WIN 2ND STRAIGHT RU NORTH
The defending IPA Pro Cup champion Valmara Vipers will get a chance to win it all again... they captured their second straight Ruthlandian North Division crown with a second-half surge that blew them by second place Far Mountain (7 GB) and third place Ranford (11 GB)... the Vipers (33-38) trailed by 10 games at the All-Star Game, but revved it up and won going away by 7 games... Far Mountain (43-28) and Ranford (42-29) had the first half to themselves, but they fell apart in the last half of the campaign.

Valmara got fine pitching from its starters (3.50 ERA-6th) and great pitching from its relievers (2.23 ERA-1st)... coupled with good scoring (775 runs-7th)... that was the formula for winning the Pro Cup last year... maybe lightning will strike twice... it's doubtful the Vipers will be overlooked this year.

VALMARA: 1st Place

Far Mountain improved greatly, rising up from seventh place last season (11 GB) to the runner-up spot, going from 73-81 to 86-68... last pennant in 2039... has won three Pro Cups (2011, 2012, 2013)

FAR MOUNTAIN: 2nd Place

Ranford ran a very close second last year, losing out by just 2 games... record was the same 82-72 this year, but they dipped to third, 11 games off the pace... last division crown was in 2041... only Pro Cup came in 2040... the Bulls can bang the ball... led the RU with 810 runs... good power with 182 homers (4th).

RANFORD: 3rd Place (tied)

Glasco came in fourth last year with a 79-75 mark, 5 GB... ended up tied for third this season with Ranford at 82-72, 11 GB... the A's have made the playoffs only twice in history... many, many years ago... 2002 and 2003... never has won a Pro Cup... the Athletics have fairly good pitching, but are only fair at the plate.

GLASCO: 3rd Place (tied)

After coming in second (5 GB) and third (2 GB) the previous two years, the LaGrange Sports fell to fifth place (22 GB)... falling from 82-72 in 2043 to 71-83 this year... last division pennant was in 2037... they have won six overall, but have no Pro Cups... just a mediocre ballclub in most respects.

LAGRANGE: 5th Place

Taranto has been sixth the last two seasons... 9 GB in 2042 and 26 GB this season... has won four pennants in its history... most recent was 2019... one Pro Cup title in 2015... possesses weak pitching and not much in the batter's box.

TARANTO: 6th place
