I would think Fort Hagen is finally flexing its muscles and ready to take over the IL. At the same time, if three or four of the teams could finish within a few games of each other, it would make the regular season just as exciting as the playoffs.

June 2314
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 15 June 2314 CBO Analysis We are not quite at the midway point of the season since we are 10 weeks into a 21-week season. But this is the midway point update, meaning our annual foray into the contenders vs pretenders. With nearly 65 games played in the 130-game regular season, only two teams--The Slog and Vault 81--have reached the 40-win mark, with two teams--Sunshine Tidings and Starlight--being the only teams with 40+ losses. We will break down the Power Rankings and the current Playoff Order below. Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization: Teams (Total Points, Tendency): 1) Vault 81 Dwellers (131.9, +) 2) The Slog Ghouls (127.9, -) 3) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (117.5, -) 4) FHE Yao Guai (114.7, +) 5) Diamond City Swatters (104.1, ++) 6) Concord Radstags (102.8, ++) 7) Bunker Hill 75ers (102.1, ++) 8) Oberland T-51s (101.1, ++) 9) Quincy Gunners (99.8, --) 10) University Point Deathclaws (97.8, --) 11) Cambridge Coursers (97.1, --) 12) Atom Cats (96.2, --) 13) Glowing Sea Radscorpions (96.1, o) 14) Lexington Synths (94.2, o) 15) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (88.7, o) 16) Egret Ninjas (83.3, ++) 17) Southie Brews (83.2, +) 18) Roxbury Rad Sox (82.2, -) 19) Malden Grognaks (80.9, ++) 20) Salem Witch Hats (80.8, -) 21) Easy Town Assaultrons (78.8, --) 22) County Crossing Bloodbugs (74.4, ++) 23) Spectacle Island Reapers (70.5, -) 24) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (66.7, ++) 25) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (66.5, -) 26) Starlight Killers (63.8, +) 27) Goodneighbor Hancocks (61.6, --) 28) Nahant Celtics (58.6, -) Current Playoff Order: NCA 1. The Slog 2. Fort Hagen 3. Concord 4. Bunker Hill (3-2 record vs Cambridge) 5. Cambridge (2-3 record vs Bunker Hill) 6. Lexington Unless something really goes right for other team--Nordhagen Beach is the 7th seed, four games back of the Synths--or awry for teams seeded, this will be the six playoff teams with maybe some jostling of order. The Coursers of all teams just made a blockbuster trade, which we will cover in the league updates below. SCA 1. Vault 81 2. Quincy (4-1 record vs University Point) 3. FHE 4. University Point (1-4 record vs Quincy) 5. Diamond City (6-4 combined record over Glowing Sea and Oberland) 6. Oberland (4-4 combined record over Diamond City and Glowing Sea) The SCA playoff race appears that it will be a good one with the Radscorpions currently the odd team out for three teams tied at seven games above .500. Atom has also started to make its move at just a game back of the wildcard spot. That puts eight teams legitimately in the playoff race and six teams needing to do something different to get into it. It is likely, though, that the eight teams currently in the race will be the top eight seeds in the end. Brotherhood League The Slog's lead continues to grow, now up 13.5 games on 2nd place Nordhagen Beach. Salem, Easy Town, and Malden are all right on the Party Boys' tails with County Crossing and Nahant taking up the rear. In the BL, really the Ghouls are the only contending team. The rest of the league has been inconsistent, though all of places 2nd-6th have been hovering around .500 in their last 10, pushing them all up from where they were 10 games ago. The Celtics have struggled mightily and trading away their ace Zach Million in the offseason now leaves them with a huge pitching gap that they have not been able to overcome in 2314. The Boys are back? Well, they are looking much better, which begs a second question. Why did they trade away their best player over the weekend? Cambridge and Nordhagen Beach came to a huge deal that sent C Clownie Blammo (.279/6/31) to the Coursers for outstanding CF prospect Miky Mytook, and prospects 2B Packy Dillan and RF Gram Baylor. Nordhagen Beach, which is 9th in runs scored (309) is now without one of its best offensive threats and a great defensive catcher. The Party Boys do still have 1B Slammin' Sammy Holloway (.357/16/59) and RF Mork Mendee (.294/15/47) in the middle. But will they be enough? Nordhagen Beach is 5th in runs allowed (294), which keeps them in the playoff hunt for now. Ace SP Beachboy Nut (6-3, 3.64) still is the team leader with Deedee Martinson (5-5, 3.64) who appears in the Noteworthy News section helping. CL Yank Daley (17 SV, 3.60) has been decent but not dominant. Institute League Just last week, the top five teams were all within a game of 1st place. Since then, there has been some separation with the hot Fort Hagen Silver Shroud taking over first place. They are now two games up on 2nd place Concord. Bunker Hill and Cambridge are tied for 3rd with Lexington at 5th. Easy breakdown of contenders (the five named above) to the CBO's two worst teams and IL's current punching bags, Sunshine Tidings and Starlight. The Killers are actually on a three-game winning streak to place them back near the pack for the race to the CBO's #1 overall draft pick. The Shroud have flexed their muscles and seem to be back to their winning ways. Their 8-2 mark in the past 10 ties FHE for the CBO's best run in the last 10 games. Offense has not been Fort Hagen's strength, currently 8th in runs scored, partially because of the 11th-ranked batting average (.265). Only C Sleve McDichael (.353/11/42) is above .300 right now for those eligible with enough at-bats. 1B Nick Coulter (.342/7/14) has been good in limited action. On the mound, the Silver Shroud are 2nd in runs allowed (265), with the 4th-best Starters ERA (3.89) and 2nd Bullpen ERA (4.52). The three top starters all have ERAs below 4.00: Nuke laloosh (5-4, 3.58), Sarthis Idren (6-5, 3.65), and Clubhouse Treelover (5-3, 3.24). CL Crazylegs Jones (18 SV, 3.13) has been about average. Minutemen League No team is "hot" in the ML with Atom having the best ten-game stretch of 6-4. They are currently on a three-game losing streak, including two right now to the Shroud. Quincy and University Point, both 4-6 in their last 10 are tied for 1st place with the Cats two back. Southie has faded away, now four games below .500. True pretenders are all of Spectacle Island, Jamaica Plain, and Goodneighbor. The Hancocks keep stewing in mediocrity and may need to take a good look at what their overly large ballpark is doing to their team success. With the deepest center field (430 feet) in the CBO, power hitters are not going to find success, including Goodneighbor's CBO-worst 50 home runs, many of which have come on the road. The Hancocks are 13th in runs scored (267), though, which should not be the case with a deep park. Perhaps talent is the problem, especially since they have shipped off a lot of good, young talent in recent years. The best all-around hitter has been RF jay gabby (.286/12/44), which is not saying much. CF Gnaw Lynns (.331/4/21/13 SB) is the only hitter above .300. Third-starter Jared Porch (3-7, 3.88) has been pitching decently well but gets no run support for the team 8th in runs allowed (308). Sticky Hill (1 SV, 3.32) has taken over as closer from Midnight Flowers (14 SV, 5.01). Railroad League Vault 81 continues to be steady good and leads by six games over the hot Yao Guai. All of Diamond City, Oberland, and Glowing Sea are tied for 3rd, two back of FHE. Egret and Roxbury can start looking to next year The T-51s are currently the 6th seed in the SCA, but could make a move. Oberland is in the middle in statistics: 7th in runs scored (324) and 6th in runs allowed (303). Therefore, they are about where they should be. They are also without two of their best pitchers in SP Ahsoka Tano (2-4, 3.83) and RP Aaron Geneva (2-1, 4.94) with injuries. On offense, they could use more power (tied for 7th with 76 home runs) but otherwise seem to be doing well despite not getting runs in. The middle of the lineup is decently good in 2B Odd Todd Walker (.294/11/37), 1B Foo Fieterz (.286/16/47), and SS Stromin Normin MacDonald (.320/12/40). On the mound, ace Emperry Alizm (7-4, 4.52) has struggled though he gets good run support. Starters Spider Caddell (5-6, 3.73) and Chemmix Tailorman (4-2, 3.10) have been pretty good. CL William Butcherman (15 SV, 3.38) has been decently good. CBO Standings CBO Players of the Week June 8 - One of the league's most exciting young players, Bumpy Redfern of the County Crossing Bloodbugs earned himself North Charles Association Player of the Week honors with a standout performance in last week's games. For the week the 25-year-old center fielder had a lofty .520 average (13-for-25), collecting 3 home runs, 9 RBIs and 5 runs scored. For the year, Redfern is batting .394 with 61 hits and 9 home runs. He has scored 28 times and driven in 30. Sheedy Smith demonstrated his potential to be a star in the game last week and today he took home the South Charles Association Player of the Week Award. The Jamaica Plain first baseman wreaked havoc on opposing pitchers last week, pounding them for a .423 average (11-for-26) with 6 home runs and 13 RBIs on his way to claiming the honor. On the year, Smith is hitting .353 with 67 hits, 14 home runs, 46 RBIs, .384 OBP and has scored 31 runs. June 15 - Once you hit 35, it's hard to say how much time you've got left in baseball. Babs Rooth has been fortunate as his numbers for the past week bear out. The 35-year-old right fielder, a favorite in the County Crossing Bloodbugs clubhouse, hit .565 last week as he put up Player of the Week numbers. Rooth also put together 13 hits in 23 at-bats, 4 home runs and 7 RBIs for the week. This season, Rooth is batting .304 with 33 RBIs, 36 runs scored and 10 home runs. It's always a thrill for fans of the team and students of the game alike when a superstar in the making shows what he's got. Enigma Montgomery, the Glowing Sea Radscorpions 24-year-old center fielder, put himself in the spotlight last week making him the clear-cut choice for South Charles Association Player of the Week honors. He ripped 11 hits in 25 at-bats, compiling a .440 average with 2 home runs and 4 RBIs. Montgomery is hitting .377 for the season with 13 home runs, 42 RBIs and 48 runs scored. He has 86 hits in 228 at-bats and played in 60 games. CBO Noteworthy News June 2 - Commissioner Nate Howard has spoked about some potential rules changes to aid pitching in the league. A commission of CBO personnel has looked at rules changes in the MLB, especially in the 20th Century, that aided pitching. Instead of the "Deadball Era" where few home runs were hit, there were other changes, like raising the mound to help pitching. Howard has noted that strikeouts are extremely low right now and would like to assist pitching in future seasons. June 7 - Rookie 1B Sheedy Smith (2313 6th overall pick) already had May's top performance. Right now, he also has June's after he tied another CBO record, this time a 4-home run game. Smith had a history-making game against the Southie Brews, clobbering 4 home runs in an awesome display of power in the 11-2 Red Rockets victory. The Jamaica Plain first baseman, who is tied for 4th in the SCA in total bases with 124, went 5-for-5, had 9 RBI, and scored 4 times in the game. "There have been a few times when I consciously tried to hit one out," said Smith later. "It doesn't often work, but it did today for the last one. I guess this day was just meant to be." Sheedy Smith singled in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Sham Killarney in the 3rd, hit a three-run home run off Sham Killarney in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Cohort Williams in the 6th and hit a three-run home run off Ugly Ed Baker in the 8th. As of June 7 this year, Smith has hit at a .353 clip with 67 hits, 14 home runs, 46 RBIs and 31 runs scored. He seems to be the favorite to be the SCA's Red Rocket Rookie Award recipient. June 7 - The Party Boys Deedee Martinson wrote his name in the league history books by picking up career victory number 150 today against the Easy Town Assaultrons. In the Nordhagen Beach 5-4 triumph at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium, the 34-year-old hurler went 6 innings, allowed 1 hit and had 6 strikeouts and 4 walks. "I won't forget this day," an emotional Martinson told reporters. "It's hard to stay at the top for so long and to win 150 games is quite a feat." Lifetime Martinson has a 150-117 won-lost record with a 3.98 ERA. He has become the 20th player in CBO history with 150 wins. His teammate, BeachboyNut, is the all-time leader with 243 as of June 7. CCBL Award Winners Hitter - He may have less experience than most of his Commonwealth Collegiate Baseball League peers, but that didn't slow Terror Scheer down at all in 2314. At the age of 18, the Endicott College shortstop has been named the winner of the Commonwealth Collegiate Baseball League Top Collegiate Hitter Award. He had a .405 batting average and a .480 on-base percentage this year. In 60 games he piled up 96 hits, 14 doubles, 5 triples, 28 home runs, 58 RBIs and 70 runs scored. "I'm blown away by the season I was able to put together," he said. "I'm looking forward to trying to do it all again next year." He received 44 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Puny Muljana of the Westerly Education Academy Owls finished second in voting, while Door Doright of the Nahant Marine Institute Aquas finished third. It's Bullets Barnes, this year's Commonwealth Collegiate Baseball League Top Collegiate Pitcher Award selection. This blossoming hurler wowed fans, peers and sportswriters with a fabulous performance. Barnes, also the winner in 2313 and a possible #1 overall pick when he declares for the draft, compiled a 10-2 record in 16 starts, tallied 81 strikeouts in 114.1 innings and recorded a 2.36 ERA. Other clubs managed only a .265 batting average against him. He received 16 first place votes out of a possible 44. His teammates and manager said he had a poised demeanor about him that was typical of someone much older and more experienced. His poise has paid off, as the 19-year-old turned in a sparkling season and has been named the winner of the Commonwealth Collegiate Baseball League Top Collegiate Reliever Award for 2314. The Carver, Massachusetts native won the award with 2 saves in 24 relief appearances, 21 strikeouts in 25.2 innings and a record of 3-2 to go with his 1.40 ERA. He may only be 17, but it will be hard to top the first baseman's 2314 campaign, as he has been named the winner of the North Region Most Valuable Player Award. His winning campaign featured a .425 batting average and a .509 on-base percentage this year. In 50 games he piled up 79 hits, 12 doubles, 2 triples, 28 home runs, 76 RBIs and 56 runs scored. He received 48 first place votes out of a possible 88. At the age of 17, many players are still trying to find their way in Commonwealth Youth League. Luge has not only found his way, he's already established himself as one of the game's brightest stars, today being named the winner of the South Region Most Valuable Player Award. "I didn't expect to hit .398 this year, that's for sure," the first baseman said. The Spectacle Island Specters star also put up a .493 on-base percentage this year, with 76 hits, 12 doubles, 1 triple, 27 home runs, 52 RBIs and 45 runs scored. He received 36 first place votes out of a possible 88. In a standout year he went 10-3 in 14 starts with 109 strikeouts in 100.1 innings and a 2.42 ERA. He received 68 first place votes out of a possible 88. He received 51 first place votes out of a possible 88. But he'll certainly be getting a lot more respect now, as the Georgetown Scholars rising star has won the North Region Reliever of the Year Award for 2314. He captured the award on the strength of his 0.41 ERA over 22 innings. He also had 2 saves in 15 relief appearances, 28 strikeouts and only 11 walks. He received 85 first place votes out of a possible 88. But he certainly seems to be a quick study, as the Harwich Fishheads reliever was better than all others this year and has captured the 2314 South Region Reliever of the Year Award. "I hope to win this a few more times before all is said and done in my career," the Boston, Massachusetts native said. For the season, Joneson had 7 saves in 20 relief appearances, which totaled 23. He fanned 24 betters, while walking 15 and put up a record of 1-0 to go with his 1.57 ERA. He received 33 first place votes out of a possible 88. And then in the Brotherhood you have The Slog, well, slogging everyone in their division. Them and Vault 81 (as expected) look tough to beat. Nice that the Institute is still keeping things close for us, but yeah with Fort Hagen's top three in the rotation I'd bet on them turning things around. Lineup is solid too since they hit homers and get on base. I think they'll start scoring more

I am not sure what the single-game runs scored record in the CBO is nor how to check it. However, the 27 runs scored by the Radscorpions has to be up there. They did it against Atom's ace, too.

BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, CYL, and CBA by Nat Wright-Kawolski 17 June 2314 CBA Awards The CBA awards were announced last night, and to us new to basketball, the MVP award was a surprise. Southie's Vee Tsankov was the winner, beating out Boston's Tre Davis for the award. Tsankov averaged 24.1 PPG, 9.8 APGH, and 4.7 RPG. He had 39 double-doubles on the season. He had one of the CBA's 17 triple-doubles. Salem's Licker Sam Arnold led the CBA with 14. Davis was not held out of all awards, though. Every player in the league was technically a rookie, but the 26-year-old Davis was named Rookie of the Year as well as earnign 1st team honors for All League, All-Defense, and All-Rookie. Airport's DA Forte was the only other player to land 1st team on all three lists. In addition to being on all three 1st teams, Forte as we already knew was the Playoffs MVP for the champion Aviators. Southie's Matt Coulter was named Coach of the Year. The Boston Mayoral Shelter resident before becoming the Jammers' coach was a leading member of building the league and took a team expected to be just OK and made them contenders in the first CBA season. Southie also had two other awards. Isaac Tibbetts was the Defensive Player of the Year. The Jammers' Corey Dixon was also named the Sixth Man of the Year for the league's best player off the bench. June 2314
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 29 June 2314 CBO Analysis At the nearly 60% mark of the season, we have now hit that time where we are a month away from the trade deadline. Some teams are trying to improve their teams in "win now" mode by grabbing some valuable veterans, while other teams will be looking to improve their future prospects. Right now, Vault 81, The Slog, and FHE are all appearing to be the "best" championship contenders, while teams like Goodneighbor, Jamaica Plain, and Sunshine Tidings need to think about what it will take to be in the championship running again. Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization: Teams (Total Points, Tendency): 1) Vault 81 Dwellers (130.5, o) 2) FHE Yao Guai (122.2, +) 3) Diamond City Swatters (116.6, +) 4) The Slog Ghouls (111.2, -) 5) Glowing Sea Radscorpions (107.9, ++) 6) Lexington Synths (104.9, ++) 7) Bunker Hill 75ers (101.5, +) 8) Quincy Gunners (100.9, ++) 9) Concord Radstags (100.5, --) 10) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (100.2, --) 11) University Point Deathclaws (98.9, --) 12) Atom Cats (98.0, -) 13) Cambridge Coursers (96.0, +) 14) Southie Brews (89.7, ++) 15) Malden Grognaks (89.0, ++) 16) Oberland T-51s (86.3, --) 17) Salem Witch Hats (85.3, ++) 18) Easy Town Assaultrons (85.0, +) 19) Nahant Celtics (78.1, ++) 20) Starlight Killers (74.4, -) 21) Egret Ninjas (74.2, o) 22) County Crossing Bloodbugs (72.9, o) 23) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (72.8, +) 24) Spectacle Island Reapers (72.4, --) 25) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (70.5, --) 26) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (65.8, +) 27) Roxbury Rad Sox (59.1, --) 28) Goodneighbor Hancocks (56.6, o) Brotherhood League The Slog continues to hold a large lead in the BL, probably making this league the least dramatic and most certainly the weakest league in the CBO. After the Ghouls, Salem, Easy Town, Malden, Nordhagen Beach, County Crossing, and Nahant are all grouped together below .500 and within six games of one another. The Witch Hats trail Cambridge for the final playoff spot by five games. The Grognaks are 4th in the standings of the 2310 expansion teams, though their .461 winning percentage currently would be their best in franchise history. They finished 55-75 (.423) in 2311. There are still some talent gaps for Malden, but there is also a promising young base in 2B Jack of Diamonds Cordero (.338/4/20), 3B Jacob Tarberry (.305/16/64), and SS G.B. Means (.292/5/19). The Grognaks are a bit better in the pitching department, currently 7th in runs allowed (382). Rookie SP Edgar Drezek (5-5, 3.78) who was a 3rd-round pick out of Nuka College in the 2313 Draft, has surprised acting as the ace. Ty Gibbs (4-10, 4.27) has a decent ERA but gets little run support. Institute League The top five teams in the IL are still rather tight. Fort Hagen holds a one-game lead over Lexington, Concord and Bunker Hill are tied for third at two games back, and Cambridge takes up the rear of the five at three games back. Starlight and Sunshine Tidings are fading away, making the season already seem "late" for them. With a 6-4 mark in their last 10, Lexington has closed the gap with the Shroud and could be in position to win the IL for the first time in team history. The Synths did win the IL in 2297, but that record does not count toward the CBO. Right now, Lexington is struggling on offense, 11th in runs scored (356) thanks in part to the 14th-ranked average (.256), OBP (.313), and OPS (.732). The two players leading the way on offense are CF Packs Ton Kling (.279/23/54/19 SB) and 3B Tommy Whitetiger (.323/14/51). Whitetiger and CF Speedy Bugg (.301/11/32) are the only regulars hitting over .300. On the mound, the Synths are good, currently 3rd in runs allowed (337). Ace Lyle Pine (7-6, 2.72) has been pitching great despite little run support. SP Admiral Kelm (7-8, 3.56) is having good results in his first season not acting a full-time two-way player. Minutemen League No team is standing out right now, but there is a mucky contingency in the ML, much like the IL. Quincy and University Point are currently tied for 1st place with Atom just two back. Southie has been doing a little better as of late and now sits just a game back of .500. Spectacle Island, Jamaica Plain, and Goodneighbor are both a mouthful and in rebuilding mode. The Red Rockets are only four years removed from being a regular contender. Now, they are trying to find something that works, which is not much. On offense, the Rockets are 10th in runs scored (368) with their one redeeming stat being home runs (5th at 101). Rookie 1B Sheedy Smith (.318/18/55) has emerged as the team leader, with aid from leadoff 3B Tre Morgueman (.281/11/44) and LF Ken Debate (.281/15/49). Pitching is 13th in runs allowed (435) with the 14th-best Starters ERA (5.44). All four starters' ERAs are over 5.00 with the best success coming from 35-year-old Dereek Green (8-4, 5.66). Ace Frank Heart (2-10, 5.70) needs time before he is fully ready, but he has taken a step back from his first two years with ERAs of 4.24 and 4.15. Railroad League With a 7-3 mark in their last 10, Vault 81 actually "struggled" and lost ground. That's because FHE went 9-1 in that stretch and have now closed the lead to just six games. Diamond City has been 8-2 in their last 10, making their mark only behind the Yao Guai. Glowing Sea is still holding on to the 6th playoff spot, while Oberland, on a four-game losing streak, is four back. Egret and Roxbury need to consider how to improve their teams for future seasons. The Ninjas took a long time to male the playoffs, making their debut in 2305 and then becoming a semi-regular before dropping off again in 2312. With their current .440 winning percentage, Egret is having its worst year since thet finished 43-77 (.358) in 2304. The Ninjas are 8th in runs scored (374) thanks in part to the 7th-best OBP (.346). The middle of the lineup has been their best part of the lineup, with C Malificent Shaw (.336/9/37), 1B Dynamo Barnes (.329/11/41), and CF Copper Quartz (.305/15/52). The pitching has allowed the 10th most runs (392) thanks in part to the 13th-ranked Starters ERA (5.21). Rookie SP Sheldon Mayoral (3-5, 4.14), former 25th overall selection by Roxbury in 2311, is the only starter with a sub-5.00 ERA. Fellow rookie, Jafar Khassanov (6-9, 5.02) has the 2nd-best ERA. RPs Mike Pond (3-3, 3.45) and Outie Lett (4-1, 3.19) are the best in the bullpen. CBO Standings CBO Players of the Week June 22 - This week's premier performer in the North Charles Association was center fielder Grandson Quarles of the Nahant Celtics. He banged out a .500 average and was voted the Player of the Week. Over the last week Quarles socked 13 hits in 26 at-bats and 4 home runs, drove in 7 runs and scored 9 times. In the current season, Quarles has put up a .314 batting average with 77 hits, 13 home runs, 31 runs batted in and scored 43 runs. Barker Cocoa showed his stuff this past week as the veteran rode a hot streak all the way to South Charles Association Player of the Week honors. The 35-year-old Deathclaws first baseman compiled a .500 average (11-for-22), 3 home runs and 10 RBIs. Looking at his stats this year, Cocoa has compiled a .329 batting average, while hitting 24 home runs and driving in 62 runs. He has played in 69 games and scored 58 runs. June 29 - It's always a thrill for fans of the team and students of the game alike when a superstar in the making shows what he's got. Mike Fountaineau, the Concord Radstags 20-year-old third baseman, put himself in the spotlight last week making him the clear-cut choice for North Charles Association Player of the Week honors. He ripped 14 hits in 25 at-bats, compiling a .560 average with 2 home runs and 3 RBIs. Currently Fountaineau has 18 home runs and a .281 batting average. Jay Gabby of the Goodneighbor Hancocks had a fantastic week and today was voted the Player of the Week by the South Charles Association. For the week Gabby batted .481 (13-for-27) with 2 home runs and 9 RBIs. This season, Gabby is swinging the bat at a .299 rate with 88 hits in 294 at-bats. To date he has hit 14 home runs, scored 42 runs and driven in 58. CBO Noteworthy News June 18 - With the mid-season mark upon us, now is a great time to update the pre-season BNN Top 100 Prospect list with what we have learned to this point. This year, 21 year-old LF Lance Tinter of the Malden Grognaks is the #1 prospect overall. Here is the top 10: 1) LF Lance Tinter, 21, Malden Grognaks 2) RHP Aaron Noluh, 20, Lexington Synths 3) 3B Ivan Abeyta, 19, Sunshine Tidings Chemists 4) 2B Zed Zded, 20, Goodneighbor Hancocks 5) 2B Gabe Clark, 21, Egret Ninjas 6) 1B Keen Sugiura, 21, Roxbury Rad Sox 7) RHP Petie Pembroke, 18, Diamond City Swatters 8) 3B Shane Powers, 18, Egret Ninjas 9) RF Clean Blake Dean, 20, Lexington Synths 10) SS Paper Mills, 21, Concord Radstags June 27 - His goal at twenty was to win twenty games one year, pitch until he was thirty, win the league pennant and to make some money. Well, Alex Alexson did something even better -- the 35-year-old University Point Deathclaws star has now won 150 games in his career. That put him in a very select group of pitchers. He joined that exclusive club today at Third Rail Stadium by whipping the Goodneighbor Hancocks 6-1, holding them to 4 hits in 6 innings while chalking up 4 strikeouts and 2 walks. In the postgame interview, the modest Alexson said, "It's special to win 150 games. You don't do it by yourself. You do it with good stuff and a good bullpen. You are only as good as the guys behind you. Years from now I might look back on it and give myself a little pat on the back." Over his career Alexson has 150 victories and 99 defeats with a 4.07 ERA. The 35-year-old hurler also has struck out 1576 batters in 2194 innings and surrendered 2121 hits. NEBL All-Star Game There's a whole lot of pride on the line when the best baseball players throughout New England Baseball League gather for the all-star game. It was no different this year, as the Patriot League bested the Yankee League by a score of 9-2, in a spirited contest played at Firemen Park. "It might be a little lower intensity than the regular season or playoffs, but everyone in that clubhouse still wants to win this game," said John Windman of the Patriot League, who was named the game MVP. In a career spanning 148 games, Windman has batted .256 with 86 hits, 37 home runs, 75 RBIs, and 61 runs scored. What's the best league? The Patriot League or the Yankee League? The answer will be found in the New England Baseball League All-Star Game. All the votes have been counted and tabulated, all the players have been selected, and they will decide the question on the baseball diamond. Not only did he take the field with the game's best players, he was also a huge factor in the 14-0 Legends League victory over the Stars League All-Stars. "We had a meeting before the game, and I was struck by the talent in the room. Old stars, young stars, it's a game I'll never forget," Sugiura said. "I talked to a few of my friends from back home, and they told me to go out and win the game for them. I'm sure they'll be thrilled." The Legends League All-Stars versus the Stars League All-Stars. It happens every year halfway through the season. It's a baseball spectacle for the fans and the players alike. It's the 2314 Massachusetts Minor League All-Star Game. The fans get to see all their favorite stars perform in the same game, and the outstanding players get to play against each other. The players are out to prove that their league is the best. June 2314
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, CYL, and CBA by Nat Wright-Kawolski 30 June 2314 CBA Draft The first CBA Draft was held last night with 16 new players in circulation in the CBA. Below, we have each team's pick and 1st-round player's scouting report. 1st Round 1. Cambridge - PF Sniper Armstrong, Bunker Hill U - Pure shooter, good at crashing the glass, excellent FT shooter, OK handling and distributing the ball, makes good decision with the ball, good defender with disrupting shots and grabbing rebounds, one of the most athletic in the draft 2. Con-Lex - SF Book Smart Denson, Harvard - Great open shooter, good at blocking shots, below average FT shooting, sees court well but needs work to pass to the right spot, needs some work as a defensive player, hard worker who trains his body well and can get significant minutes 3. Boston - PF RaShawn Bergman, New England U - Good shooter, prefers post play, good FT shooter but needs work on drawing fouls, loose ball champion with lots of hustle, long arms help defend in post, solid build makes him a stronger player in the league, better at catch and shoot than handling the ball, may need to work more on anticipation of opponents; shots 4. Quincy - SF Burrow Cromer, SNHU - A bit of a surprise pick at this position. Great FT shooter, forces too many shots and does not pick high-percentage shots enough, not a great rebounder for a big man, hardly catches awry passes by the opponent 5. Medford - C Cleveland Brooker, Coastal U - Good shot mechanics but too many straight-line shots, has mid-range on shots, needs better angles on FT shooting but has mechanics to improve, rebounding champion who loves physicality inside, shot-blocking champion, great stamina for a big man, sometimes careless when handling ball, could be best player in the 2314 Draft 6. Salem - C Tiny Tommy Tarberry, Dartmouth - decent ball handling helps him drive the lane for layups and dunks, good FT shooter, solid rebounder, good defender, good teammate, needs to speed up release on shots in the CBA, needs to work on reflexes when going up on shot block attempts 7. Southie - C Roomy Chris McCoy, WCSU - tall and wide, dunker, better than average FT shooter, decent ball handler but will not do much of that in CBA, showed major improvement last season of college to drive up stock, solid court awareness, good stamina, not much range on shots, not a good passer so once gets ball he needs to shoot the ball, needs to rely more on jump skills than trying to box out multiple players, forgets high jumping ability on shot blocks 8. Airport - SG Vroom Hand, Providence - good touch on shot, solid FT shooter, decent at passing and ball handling but will never be a PG, likes to drive with the ball, needs improvement on shooting mechanics, will probably get buried on Aviators depth chart 2nd Round 9. Con-Lex - PF Brian Payton, Mass Bay U 10. Cambridge - SF Flemmy Fleming, Southern Conn 11. Boston - PF Camera Cook, Endicott U 12. Quincy - PG XMan McColpin, Boston College 13. Medford - PG Nighty Night Robinson, Acadia College 14. Con-Lex - SF Tricky Kevin West, Fitchburg State 15. Southie - PG Easy Money Freight, New Hampshire U 16. Airport - PF Andrea Hartfield, Tufts

July 2314
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, CYL, and CBA by Nat Wright-Kawolski 1 July 2314 The July 1 Super Post CBO Players of the Month NCA Hitter - To Babs Rooth, age is just a number. He may be 35 years old, but the County Crossing Bloodbugs right fielder proved in June that he's still got what it takes to compete at an elite level. With a .418 average, 10 home runs, 25 RBIs, and 24 runs scored, Rooth had all the numbers that counted and has won the North Charles Association Batter of the Month award. Rooth is hitting .313 for the season with 15 home runs, 45 RBIs and 48 runs scored. He has 72 hits in 230 at-bats and played in 69 games. SCA Hitter - Glowing Sea Radscorpions fans believe they've got a talented young star in Enigma Montgomery. He did nothing to dissuade that notion in June, as he hit .444 with 8 home runs, 20 RBIs and 21 runs scored. The end result was the center fielder being named the South Charles Association Batter of the Month. This year, Montgomery has hit 16 home runs and posted a .385 batting average. NCA Pitcher - Chris Teddybear dazzled opponents on his way to the North Charles Association Pitcher of the Month award for June. Posting a 5-0 record and a 1.34 ERA, the Salem Witch Hats starter held opposing hitters to a .210 batting average while striking out 26 in 40.1 innings and giving up 11 walks. In 18 starts this year, Teddybear has posted 8 wins while suffering 2 losses. He has pitched 100 innings, allowed 90 hits, struck out 63 and has a 3.24 ERA. SCA Pitcher - Kennett Kentucky of the FHE Yao Guai was on top of his game the entire month of June, capping it off with the South Charles Association Pitcher of the Month honors. He was outstanding in 6 starts with 5 wins and no losses, 37.2 IP, 23 strikeouts and a fine 2.39 ERA. His record this season is 8-4 in 19 starts and Kentucky has a 3.91 ERA. NCA Rookie - Miko Miko earned June's Rookie of the Month honors in the North Charles Association for last month's performance. The boyish Bunker Hill third baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level. Miko hit .448 with 3 home runs, 16 RBIs and 15 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award. This year, Miko has collected a .402 batting average to date with 98 hits in 244 at-bats, 42 RBIs, 10 home runs and scored 41 times. He has played in 69 games. SCA Rookie - Youngster Donovan Mackey emerged as the latest South Charles Association Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Spectacle Island deserved the honor, batting .360 with 5 home runs and 27 RBI. Is the month of June a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Mackey enjoy the limelight. For the year, Mackey has hit at a .339 clip with 38 RBIs, 11 home runs and 40 runs scored. CBO Top Performances Hitter - Sheedy Smith, Jamaica Plain, 151 - This is probably the one, the performance that will be the top performance of the year. On June 7, Jamaica Plain rookie Sheedy Smith surpassed his May top performance by launching four out of the park. The performance score of 151 topped Smith's previous high of 137. In the 11-2 victory over Southie, Smith was 5 for 5 with four home runs, four runs scored, and nine RBI. His four homers and nine RBI tied two SCA records. The last SCA player with four homers was Diamond City's Ani Waalk in 2310, and the last player to knock in nine runs was Barker Cocoa of University Point in 2307. Fort Hagen's Andrew Nuka set the CBO record high of 11 in 2304. Smith's four-home run performance is the fifth time in CBO history. Dusty Brownell of Concord did it twice. Pitcher - Ty Gibbs, Malden, 94 - Malden's Ty Gibbs has the best performance in June and on the season with a game score of 94 in a 1-0 loss to Salem in 10 innings on June 7. While Gibbs had a no-decision, he pitched nine innings of one-hit ball, walking two and striking out 11. Gibbs' performance just beat out the Silver Shroud's Sarthis Idren, who had a game score of 91 in April. NEBL Analysis The NEBL is in its last full month of the season with each division currently having a clear leader. Division leaders are the Clifton Vertibirds (Maine), Graygarden Action Boys (Vershire), Braintree Robobrains (Mass), and Providence Warlocks (Connri). Players of the Month PL Hitter - When Moises Joy stepped up to the plate in June he did it with confidence, and today he was honored with the Patriot League Batter of the Month award. The young Marlborough left fielder posted a .352 batting average with 9 home runs, 25 RBIs and scored 19 runs. Joy also worked pitchers for 7 walks to post a .402 on-base percentage. This season, Joy has banged out 58 hits in 175 at-bats for a .331 average with 12 home runs. He is getting on base at a .401 pace and his totals also include 35 RBIs and 39 runs scored. YL Hitter - It's perhaps an award he'll win many more times through his career, as at age 21 Waterbug Grant has a lot of baseball ahead of him. But for now the young Braintree Robobrains star can enjoy the numbers he put up in June, which have garnered him the nod as the Yankee League Batter of the Month. His breakout month featured a .421 average with 10 home runs, 16 RBIs and 18 runs scored. So far this year, Grant is batting .345 with 10 home runs and 20 RBIs. SL Pitcher - In June Manchester starter Tony Vampire Frazier confused hitters all month long. Last month's Patriot League Pitcher of the Month took home the trophy as he collected a 6-0 record in 6 starts. The 30-year-old Frazier added 40 strikeouts in 46 innings and 10 walks to his season record and compiled a 1.57 ERA. Other clubs hit .173 against him. This year, Frazier has worked 114.1 innings with 93 strikeouts en route to a 8-3 record and a 3.31 ERA. YL Pitcher - The top-rated pitcher this past month in the Yankee League was Tease McKeon of the Braintree Robobrains. He really dominated league hitters, finishing June with a 4-0 won-lost mark and a 0.50 ERA. The Robobrains ace made 5 starts and surrendered 17 hits in 35.2 innings. He struck out 30 and walked 10. So far this year, McKeon has compiled a 8-1 record with a 1.70 ERA. MML Analysis Following the same schedule as the NEBL, the MML is in its last full month before a mid-August finish. Current leaders are the Covenant Refractors and Watertown Armorers (Boggs), Littleton Ragers (Murtagh), Pawtucket Pips (Williams), and Newton Behemoths (Yastrzemski). Players of the Month LL Hitter - Revere Beach Shoremen fans may just have witnessed a star player blossoming before their eyes in June. Keen Sugiura put up a remarkable month at the age of 21 and has been named the Legends League Batter of the Month. For the month, Sugiura hit .372 with 13 home runs, 31 RBIs and 26 runs scored. To date, Sugiura has collected 74 hits for a .308 average. He has posted 31 home runs, scored 60 runs and driven in 62 runs. SL Hitter - Even though he is a newcomer to Massachusetts Minor League, Adavald Vigilant put up some good numbers in June and earned the SL Batter of the Month award. He was one of Hull's offensive leaders with a .360 average in 22 games. He also racked up 14 home runs, 27 RBIs, and 24 runs scored. Vigilant's current batting average stands at .299 and he has chalked up 31 home runs and 60 RBIs. LL Pitcher - In June when Haverhill Grooms reliever Bullet Bob Wallace was beckoned in from the bullpen, it spelled "Relief" with a capital "R." He usually put a very quick end to any budding rallies. For his sensational mound work he was voted the Legends League Pitcher of the Month. The Haverhill reliever had 5 saves for the month with a 4-0 record and 3.60 ERA. He made 10 relief appearances, hurled 10 innings, yielded 10 hits, fanned 9 and walked 2. In 2314 Wallace has totaled 17 relief appearances and saved 9. His record is 4-0 with 13 strikeouts in 17 innings and a 2.65 ERA. SL Pitcher - When Felix Robles takes the mound, a Mayoral Shelter victory is usually the result. That was the case in June. That's why he was voted the Stars League Pitcher of the Month. Robles throttled league hitters the whole month with an impressive 6-0 mark and 2.42 ERA in 6 starts. The Tricentennials star hurler also rung up 41 strikeouts in 48.1 innings. This year, Robles has a 10-5 record with a 4.20 ERA in 18 starts. BMU Analysis The BMU and GBRL only have two weeks to go, so there are some teams we know are out but no team has yet to clinch their division with 15 to play Leaders are the Lynn Woods Bloatflies (Mag# 10, Dark Hollow Pond), Union Hope Lifegivers (Mag# 6, Cambridge), DB Tech Nuclear Physicists (Mag# 15, Downtown Boston), and Greater Mass Vans (Mag# 9, Glowing Sea). Players of the Month CA Hitter - Donovan Drake has a lot going for him. The Union Hope center fielder just broke into the majors this year and now the Commonwealth Association has just picked him as its top hitter for June. In 22 games last month this outstanding rookie batted .377 with 12 home runs, 27 RBIs and 19 runs scored. Posting a .325 batting average to date, Drake has 29 home runs and 61 RBIs. MA Hitter - For a rookie just breaking in, Sawmill Sarabia certainly put together a successful month. It was good enough to win the MA Batter of the Month award for June. The 21-year-old third baseman for the Somerville Place Shamrocks hit .368 with 15 home runs, 33 RBIs and 30 runs scored. This year, Sarabia has batted at a .344 pace with 45 hits, 16 home runs, 39 RBIs and scored 36 times. CA Pitcher - Teldryn Salo is the latest Commonwealth Association Pitcher of the Month award winner. The Kingsport starter stood out on the hill time and again last month and finished June with a sparkling 4-1 record. In 4 starts last month, he fanned 27, walked 15 in 32 innings and posted a 3.09 ERA. Salo held opposing teams to a .221 batting average when he was on the mound. Salo has made 4 starts, tossed 58.2 innings, struck out 57 batters and walked 26. His record is 6-1 with a 4.45 ERA and he has limited other teams to a .265 batting average. MA Pitcher - In June, when the name of Torbjorn Shattershield appeared on the Westing Estate lineup card it was a virtual lock on a victory. He started 6 times and chalked up 5 wins and 1 loss. With those stats it was also a virtual lock that he would be named the Massachusetts Association Pitcher of the Month. Shattershield shackled opposing batters on 33 base hits and a .205 batting average. He rang up 38 strikeouts in 45.1 innings of work, surrendered 8 walks and fashioned a sparkling 1.99 ERA. This season, Shattershield has 11 wins and 5 losses and a 3.24 ERA. GBRL Analysis No teams have clinched a playoff spot, though three are close with 15 games left to play. Division leaders are the Brunswick Brainiacs (Mag# 15, NE), Fiddler's Green T-60s (Mag# 7, NW), Woonsocket Orphans (Mag# 6, SE), and New Britain Oceanics (Mag# 8, SW). Players of the Month NL Hitter - Munson Morales made his presence known as one of the best young stars in the North League this past month. The Augusta Harpooners first baseman shined through the month of June and has won the Batter of the Month award. The 18-year-old hit .318 with 18 home runs, 38 RBIs and 28 runs scored. Morales on the season is batting .226 with 27 home runs. His totals include 62 RBIs and 50 runs scored. He has played in 69 games. SL Hitter - At only 20 years of age, Clean Blake Dean could very well have many more months like this last one during his career. That would be great news for fans of the Woonsocket Orphans, as June was one to remember for the right fielder and he has captured the South League Batter of the Month award. On the month he hit .373 with 12 home runs, 26 RBIs and 24 runs scored. This season, Dean is hitting .354 with 85 hits, 33 home runs, 80 RBIs, scored 61 runs and played in 66 games. NL Pitcher - When the T-60s skipper wrote Jones on the lineup card, it was a bad omen for the opposition. Outing after outing in June he took command and usually got the win. He dominated with a 6-0 mark and 1.61 ERA in 6 starts. The gifted T-60s star pitched 44.2 innings, fanned 56 and held opposing teams to a .150 average. For his excellent mound work Jones was named the NL Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers. So far this season, Jones has logged a 7-0 record with a 1.42 ERA. He has started 9 games, hurled 63.1 innings and registered 77 strikeouts and 37 walks. SL Pitcher - Vault Boy Barnette of the New Britain Oceanics is the South League Pitcher of the Month. In June, he sparkled and shined on the mound with 5 wins and no losses in 6 starts. Barnette checked opposing batters on 29 base hits and a .220 batting average. He rang up 35 strikeouts in 36.2 innings of work, surrendered 15 walks and fashioned a 2.21 ERA. Checking out his stats for the season, Barnette has notched 14 wins and 1 loss in 17 starts. His ERA is 2.30 and he's struck out 122 batters in 109.1 innings.

---------------------------------------------------------- Nuka News Update Reporting on the NWL, APL, NWLR, and BBL Leagues by Evan Guy 1 July 2314 Wild, Cherry Lead at the Break The All-Star Game was played just last night--story below--and so we are just two days away from the second half of the 2314 Nuka World League season. At the break, the Wild Gatorclaws hold a three-game lead in the North Bradberton, while the Cherry Ghoulrillas are division leaders of the South Bradberton. Orange's RF Doman Northsea (.393/15/45/3.5 WAR) and Victory's SP Mucky Timmons (7-3, 2.46, 2.9 WAR) appear to be the early leaders for the top awards in hitting and pitching. Speaking of Northsea, he said he hopes everyone remembers his performance in June if he ends up struggling this year. His performance certainly was memorable, as the 29-year-old Orange Tourists right fielder was a step ahead all other Nuka World League hitters and was named Batter of the Month. On the month, he hit .453 with 10 home runs, 21 RBIs and 24 runs scored. Northsea is hitting .393 so far this season with 45 RBIs and 38 runs scored. He has 75 hits including 15 home runs, 24 walks and .460 OBP. June's premier pitcher was Melvin Teacup of Victory Cave Crickets. He pulverized Nuka World League hitters all month long and picked up the Pitcher of the Month award. The Cave Crickets star hurler fashioned a 5-0 record en route to the honor. He had 35 strikeouts in 42 innings and compiled a 2.36 ERA. Other clubs hit .219 against him. For the season, Teacup has compiled a 9-0 record with a 2.19 ERA. Bah Gamnan is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Nuka World League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers. In June the Quartz hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .294 average with 30 hits, 1 home run and 6 RBIs. This season in 47 games, Gamnan has hit at a .292 clip with 56 hits, 2 home runs, 19 RBIs and 25 runs scored. Roz McBerger shined brightly tonight against the best talent that the NWL has to offer. The all-star was named MVP for the annual mid-season showcase held at Fizztop Mountain Park at Nuka-Town USA, as his North Bradberton Division All-Stars downed the South Bradberton Division All-Stars by a count of 7-4. "It's humbling to even play in a game like this with legends of the sport all around you," he said. McBerger went 2 for 2 to capture the honor. His career numbers show McBerger is currently carrying a .378 lifetime batting average with 40 home runs and 210 RBIs. Half of the season has been played and now it's time for the All-Star game! It's a game where the fans will get to see their favorite players compete on the same field together, a game where the players themselves become fans and all of baseball comes together to celebrate one of the great traditions of the game -- the Nuka World League All-Star game. The North Bradberton Division and the South Bradberton Division will come together today to decide the title of the best league for this season. In the North Division, the Nuka Bottling Plant Pack and Red Rocket Radrats are tied for 1st. The Grandcheter Flying Ants are in sole possession of 1st in the South Division, two games up on the Dunmore Ferris Wheels. Alf Zimmerman may be much younger than other hitters in the Amusement Park League, but he performed like a seasoned veteran in June to win the Batter of the Month award. The 23-year-old Nuka Jolly first baseman hit .357 with 7 home runs, 19 RBIs and 17 runs scored. Question: Who was the #1 pitcher in the Amusement Park League in June? Answer: That would be Dragon Chan of the Nuka Jolly Elves. He excelled with a 4-0 mark and a 2.43 ERA in 5 starts, tossed 33.1 innings, fanned 21 and held opposing teams to a .266 average. That's exactly why the Amusement Park League scribes voted him the Pitcher of the Month. Vim! View Veracious, Vivacious, Vainglorious Vision of the Vim! Leagues by Vikky Vail 1 July 2314 All-Star Break Brings Excitement for 2314 Season Vim! League put its best players on the field today, and the game certainly showed that. In the annual Midseason Classic, the Harbor Division came out over the Fog Division by a final score of 8-5. Leading the way for the Harbor Division All-Stars was second baseman Jarrod Sebiess of Far Harbor. "I go out there and do my best every game, All-Star game or not," the star said after his great show, going 2 for 3 with a double, two runs, and an RBI in the contest. In 938 career games Sebiess has hit .304 with 1083 hits, 147 home runs, 622 RBIs and scored 593 runs. This is his 9th All-Star Game appearance. He was the 2304 Vim! MVP Award and Vim! Fresh Face Award winner. Despite the success of the All-Star Game, Sebiess's Ghoul Whales are in 3rd place in the Harbor, six games back of leader Acadia. The Acadians have a five-game advantage over 2nd place Cranberry Island. In the Fog Division, both National Park and Eden Meadows are knotted up at 26-22, three games up on 3rd place Echo Lake. Based on WAR, the probable leading hitter is 1B Hazzmatt Zuniga of Far Harbor. Zuniga leads the Vim! with a .405 average, is second with 13 home runs, and tied for 3rd with 36 RBI. His 3.7 WAR is 1.3 better than the second-best, the Hermit Crabs' SS Ricky Day-Z. For pitchers, Acadians' SP Wearya Going is having his best year in his 11th season in the Vim! League. Going (7-2, 3.62) has a 2.8 WAR, just 0.4 ahead of the Ghoul Whales' Keith Lighthouse and the Harbormen's Jason Woods. Zuniga let his bat do the talking in June and the Vim! League heard him loud and clear. He made plenty of noise as he put together a .456 batting average and was named the top hitter of the month. Zuniga's month to remember saw him accumulate 36 hits, 6 home runs, 18 runs batted in, 18 runs, 20 walks and a .570 on-base percentage. At the moment, Zuniga is batting .405 with 13 home runs and 36 RBIs. He has played in 48 games and scored 40 times. George Hickey was pure magic coming out of the Fog Crawlers bullpen in June. For his outstanding performance, he picked up the Vim! League Pitcher of the Month award. Hickey posted a 3-0 mark and a 2.19 ERA in 10 relief appearances. In 12.1 innings, he allowed 13 hits, totaled 5 saves with 7 strikeouts and no walks. To date Hickey has 6 saves with a 3-1 mark and 4.66 ERA. Opposing teams are hitting .303 against him. June was a special time for Cranberry Island hurler, Jaylin Fox. It was such a good month that the Vim! League picked him the league's #1 newcomer and awarded him the Rookie of the Month trophy. Last month the 23-year-old starter roared through the VIML with 2 wins and no losses and a 0.77 ERA as he struck out 21 in 35 innings and held opponents to a .200 batting average. This season, Fox has compiled a 6-1 mark with a 2.62 ERA. In the Mount Desert Island League, division leaders are the Brooke's Head Lights (Small Bertha) and the MS Azalea Shipwrecks (Old Longfellow). Mercy Klimek put together a good June to earn the Mount Desert Island League Batter of the Month prize. A virtual unknown, he made the most of his chance to prove to Brooke's Head officials that he belongs on the big league roster. The Lights right fielder posted a .389 batting average with 10 home runs, 22 RBIs and 18 runs scored. Over the past month Yaz Zemsky has turned quite a few heads. He's young, talented and able to pitch with the established arms in the Mount Desert Island League. He proved all that and now he's been named June's Pitcher of the Month. The rookie for the MS Azalea Shipwrecks posted 3-0 mark and a 0.79 ERA. In 3 starts he tossed 22.2 innings, permitted 13 hits and fanned 19 batters. CBO Officials Pay a Visit CBO Commissioner Nate Howard and other top officials in the front office, including Vice Commissioner Jimmy LaRue, paid a visit to Mount Desert Island, looking at several sites for what may be an indoor stadium. The CBO recently added a domed stadium just north of the "Glowing Sea" where one of the original atom bombs exploded during the Great War. Commissioner Howard has indicated that a dome on the Island could be useful for times when the radfog rolls through. Site locations scouted included Far Harbor, Acadia, Southwest Harbor, and Brooke's Head Lighthouse. What does this mean? Well, Howard was not specific, but since there were architects and construction experts in the entourage, we would assume that work on a stadium will be announced soon. If that is the case, then the additional assumption is that the stadium is not for the Vim! League but the CBO. So there may be a CBO team relocating to the Island? Now that would be something worth cheering for!

BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, CYL, and CBA by Nat Wright-Kawolski 4 July 2314 Watch Group Questioning Malden's Organizational Management A contingent of CBO fans that calls itself "The Watchers" has put out some public sentiments questioning if Malden is sincerely trying to be a winning franchise. Now in their 5th season, the Grognaks currently have their highest winning percentage at .450 (36-44). However, The Watchers have pointed out that the Grognaks have been slow to elevate some of their young stars. One place The Watchers has focused is Malden's GBRL team, the New Britain Oceanics. In 2313, the Oceanics finished a league-best 74-14 and then went on to win the championship in their first season as the Grognak's rookie affiliate. This season, New Britain is 63-13 and just a few games away from clinching the top spot again. One member of The Watchers, named Dee Historian, released this statement: "The Malden franchise is hoarding young talent on their rookie team. Look at the statistics. F. Ex. the batting average leaders as of this morning, on the day of our Independence, they have the top three in [Floren] Habern with .414, [lance] Tinter at .393, and [Keepuh] Knockin at .375. "Habern is a good example. Why is the in rookie ball for the third year when most scouts think he should be in the CBO already? He batted .376 with 30 home runs last season. What more can he do? "Look at the whole outfield in New Britain. Not just Habern, but their LF Tinter has 34 home runs and 57 RBI and their CF [Mabe] Bee has 32 home runs and 99 RBI. Something is not right!" We here at BNN tried to take a closer look, and there may be some validation. One thing we noticed, especially in looking at Malden's AAA and AA levels is that they have a lot of "veterans at max" regarding age restrictions at each level of the minors. Commissioner Nate Howard in the past has stated that there needs to be a constant path of entry for new players, thus the logic behind age restrictions. In the Grognaks' case, though, they are indeed hoarding older players, blocking that chance for advancement. Just in Plymouth, the AAA affiliate, there are 19 of 30 players over 31 years old. According to OSA scouts, only 30-year-old reliever Justin Bridges is capable of moving into the CBO of those 19 players. For further reference, the CBO roster has zero players over 30. What it looks like to us is that players like Habern, the 2311 6th-overall pick, have to jump from the GBRL or BMU straight to the CBO. There is not much room for an almost-there young player to show his stuff. We think the The Watchers group has a good point, and we at BNN are going to scrutinize the players in the NEBL and MML a little more. Are they stopping the CBO from having the best 25 players it can have? Why is the NEBL parading out 35-year-old players who never made it to the CBO and never hit above .200 in the minors? We may be getting as angry at the CBO's high minors policies as The Watchers.

July 2314
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, CYL, and CBA by Nat Wright-Kawolski 13 July 2314 CBO Analysis We have reached the approximate 70% mark of the season, and only one team has 60+ wins, the hot Vault 81 Dwellers (62-26), currently on a six-game winning streak, the second-best current winning streak in the CBO. There are no teams with 60+ losses, but there are 10 teams with 50+. We will highlight one veteran that can go to a contender from each of those teams in the league reports below. Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization: Teams (Total Points, Tendency): 1) Vault 81 Dwellers (138.9, o) 2) The Slog Ghouls (122.9, o) 3) Glowing Sea Radscorpions (122.4, ++) 4) FHE Yao Guai (115.5, -) 5) Atom Cats (107.2, +) 6) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (105.4, -) 7) Lexington Synths (105.2, --) 8) Salem Witch Hats (102.0, ++) 9) Diamond City Swatters (99.2, +) 10) Quincy Gunners (99.2, --) 11) Cambridge Coursers (99.1, ++) 12) Bunker Hill 75ers (98.1, --) 13) Concord Radstags (97.1, +) 14) Oberland T-51s (97.1, --) 15) Southie Brews (97.0, -) 16) University Point Deathclaws (93.1, --) 17) Easy Town Assaultrons (80.9, o) 18) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (79.7, +) 19) Starlight Killers (78.8, o) 20) Egret Ninjas (72.8, +) 21) County Crossing Bloodbugs (71.5, +) 22) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (70.5, ++) 23) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (67.5, -) 24) Nahant Celtics (62.5, o) 25) Spectacle Island Reapers (62.5, o) 26) Malden Grognaks (61.6, --) 27) Roxbury Rad Sox (61.5, o) 28) Goodneighbor Hancocks (56.4, o) Brotherhood League The BL continues to be The Slog and then everyone else. The Ghouls are up 12.5 games over Salem and 17.5 over 3rd-place Easy Town. The Assaultrons are followed by Nordhagen Beach, Malden. County Crossing, and Nahant. The Grognaks, Bloodbugs, and Celtics all have 50+ losses, to let's take a look at who could go for future building. We will then feature the Bugs in full below. Malden: A good veteran to dish out for some future help would be 1B Andy Stamey (.292/11/55). Stamey has been a valuable piece of the Grognaks but could serve as veteran support for a championship contender. University Point is dealing with a banged up Barker Cocoa, so that could be one destination. County Crossing: Honestly, the house. The Bugs are one o the older teams. If there would be one blockbuster deal, it could be dishing 35-year-old RF Babs Rooth (.309/19/53) to a team in need of power in RF. Nahant: There could be a few options, but 30-year-old 2B Diamond Ball (.325/14/60) seems to be the obvious choice to bring in several prospects. The 10-time All-Star was a leader in the run last season, and he should be able to lead a different team there now that the Celtics need several pitchers to be competitive again. The Bloodbugs were the BL champions in 2313, posting a record of 81-49 (.623). At 36-51 (.414), the Bugs have already lost more games in 2314 with 43 left to play. We see them as perhaps being at the cliff now as one of the oldest teams in the CBO. County Crossing is decent on offense, currently 6th in runs scored (443) with the top stat in four categories. Pitching has been a problem, though, 11th in runs allowed (488) and 14th in Starters ERA (5.74). Offense is led by 1B Plain Morris (.283/22/85) and RF Rooth (.309/19/53). SP Bendy Barman (2-2, 4.16) is the only starter with a sub-5.00 ERA. "Ace" Shaak Yi (5-8, 6.06) has not been good. Institute League Fort Hagen and Lexington are locked into a tight battle, with the Silver Shroud up by a game. Bunker Hill, Concord, and Cambridge had a bit of a down stretch, so they all have the hot Salem Witch Hats on their backs for playoff seeding. Starlight and Sunshine Tidings get to decide which vet to distribute to another team. Starlight: The problem with the Killers' veterans is that most of them are just about done and have almost no value. The one exception is probably 3B/SS Nick Maris (.212/2/22) who has seen his offensive output fade but still offers excellent defensive support for a team who may want to upgrade its fielding. Sunshine Tidings: It will take coming back from a broken foot in a couple of weeks, but 3B Ross Merchantman (.277/28/56) is the obvious choice to be a big-time prospect gainer for the Chemists. For the Chemists, they are similar to COunty Crossing. Offense has been OK, ranked 7th in runs scored (430), while the pitching is 12th in runs allowed (494) and eth in Starters ERA (5.41). The top seven hitters have double-digit homers for the top HR team in the NCA (158). C Red Jay Jones (.363/28/67) and the injured Merchantman (.277/28/56) are tied for the team lead and 2nd in the CBO behind only Salem's Brian DeLong (29). On the mound, ace SP Tiger Fanne (5-7, 4.13) leads the starters. RP Cush Baker (3-2, 2.72) has been the best pitcher on the squad. Minutemen League Watch out! The defending champions are back! While the rest of the ML struggled, the Atom Cats used a 7-3 streak in their last 10 to tie Quincy atop the ML. University Point went 3-7 during that stretch, dropping them two games back. Southie is two games above .500, so alive in the playoff race. All of Spectacle Island, Jamaica Plain, and Goodneighbor are preparing for next year and beyond. The Hancocks hold the #1 overall pick right now. Spectacle Island: The player who will get the Reapers the most bang for their buck is 29-year-old SP Jalep Temper (2-6, 4.13). The 2303 #1 overall pick, Temper has seen his ERA at his highest since his rookie year in 2306 when he has a 4.41 ERA for Finch Farm (now Nahant). Still, he is a valuable pitcher who could see his ERA drop in the right place. Jamaica Plain: Their star player is LF Ken Debate, but we do not foresee the 29-year-old star being dealt. One potential could be 35-year-old SP Derek Green (8-5, 5.71). Green is beyond his glory days, but he could provide depth help for a team that needs better pitching. Green is one of just three CBO pitchers with 200+ career wins (Beachboy Nut and Gavin Eviritts). Goodneighbor: We hope the Hancocks' brass heeds this message. Trade nobody! In recent years, Goodneighbor has traded away valuable young stars trying to shake up things. Instead of a solid base, the team remains in chaos. We suggest to hold on to the youngsters they have and continue to draft well and develop those players. The Reapers have not sown success as of late. Out of the playoffs since 2308, Spectacle Island has had a hard time climbing into the top half of the IL. Currently 11th in runs scored (413) and 14th in runs allowed (532), the Reapers still will have a long way before they are competitors again. On offense, SS Nippy ben Nippolt (.313/12/43) is the only player above .300, while RF Esau Babz (.256/21/60) is the power leader. SP Aqua Purified (8-8, 4.59) is the acting ace with Temper (2-6, 4.13) getting little run support to steal victories. Railroad League With an 8-2 mark and a six-game winning streak, only topped in the CBO by fellow RL team, Glowing Sea with a 9-1, 8-game winning streak mark, the Vault 81 Dwellers are the kings of the CBO, 4.5 games better than The Slog for the top record. FHE, the Radscorpions, Diamond City, and Oberland are all above .500 and heavily in the playoff race. Egret and Roxbury have hit the 50-loss mark, so here are their players to deal. Egret: 3B Notorious Fugate (.259/10/42) is still a top defender who can provide some offensive support from the bottom half of the lineup. He is actually currently above his career averages, so the 34-year-old still has something to offer to the right team. Roxbury: There are several we can name for the Sox, but the player with the most value currently is probably SS Purple Gupta (.260/7/33). His offensive numbers have dipped some but his defense is still top-notch, something a team with SS problems could solve. The Rad Sox saw themselves drop from 1st place in 2312 to drafting 3rd overall in 2313. With multiple stars dropping off the age cliff or being dealt before they do, the Sox are rebuilding more so than a lot of the other traditional powerhouses. We see that coming for some others, like Nordhagen Beach and University Point, but Roxbury's drop has been more dramatic. With the 13th scoring offense (382) and 11th scoring defense (464), Roxbury is exactly where it is expected to be in the playoff race: out of it. Gupta (.260/7/33) leads the team in batting average of a team batting .244. The 1st and 8th hitters, Dan Squirrel and Azzada Lylvieve lead the team in homers with 11 each. Three of the four starters have ERAs in the 4.xx range, led by SP Freak Mouton (5-8, 4.16). The lowest bullpen ERA is by RP Ice Water Williams (3-2, 4.32). CBO Standings CBO Players of the Week July 6 - It was announced today that Bunker Hill left fielder Zod Gaycey had received the North Charles Association Player of the Week Award for his impressive play last week. All week long he was terrific at the plate and won the honor with a .556 BA (10-for-18), 4 home runs and 8 RBIs. In this current campaign Gaycey is hitting at a .307 clip with 17 home runs and 48 RBIs. One of the league's most exciting young players, Yvuh Jet of the Glowing Sea Radscorpions earned himself South Charles Association Player of the Week honors with a standout performance in last week's games. For the week the 23-year-old catcher had a lofty .600 average (12-for-20), collecting 2 home runs, 7 RBIs and 6 runs scored. This year, Jet is batting .300 with 72 hits and 16 home runs. He has scored 52 times and has batted in 52 runs. July 13 - Thatch Heard demonstrated his potential to be a star in the game last week and today he took home the North Charles Association Player of the Week Award. The Salem right fielder wreaked havoc on opposing pitchers last week, pounding them for a .500 average (14-for-28) with 2 home runs and 12 RBIs on his way to claiming the honor. Heard is hitting .347 this year with 26 home runs and 88 RBIs. He also has an OBP of .360, 8 walks and scored 71 times. Austin Engill of the Egret Ninjas might have lost a step over the years, but the 36-year-old shortstop can still get it done. He beat out several other worthy South Charles Association hitters over this past week to claim the Player of the Week Award. Engill posted a .409 batting average with 5 home runs and 10 RBIs last week while scoring 8 runs. For the week he was 9 for 22. This season, Engill is batting .245 with 47 RBIs, 44 runs scored and 16 home runs. CBO Noteworthy News July 6 - Due to public pressure to respond from the Vim! League report, the CBO has released a statement that a CBO-sponsored project to build an indoor stadium in Far Harbor or the surrounding areas of Mount Desert Island will break ground as early as next month. Asked if that means the CBO will have a team in Maine one day, the spokesperson said, "Yes." July 6 and 7 - Slammin' Sammy Holloway collected 10 hits in two games on July 6 and 7, an amazing feat! Holloway was on quite a roll as he knocked the ball all over Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium on July 6, collecting 5 hits. His day of glory wasn't able to win the game, however. The Atom Cats got the 4-3 victory over the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys. "I never realized that a few hits could cause so much commotion," the first baseman said in the clubhouse after the game, crowded by reporters. "Headlines and highlights are great, but it takes a lot of luster off it that we lost." After his first couple of hits, all eyes in the ballpark were on him each time Holloway stepped into the batter's box. Even some opposing fans were pulling for him, knowing they were watching a little slice of league history unfold. When asked what the secret of hitting so well is, he smiled and said "relax, concentrate, and hit the ball where they ain't." That's exactly what he did, as Holloway finished the game with 5 hits in 5 at-bats and a line in the record book. Slammin' Sammy Holloway doubled in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, doubled in the 7th and hit an RBI double in the 9th. This year, Holloway has hit at a .353 clip with 68 RBIs, 18 home runs and 56 runs scored. Some moments become linked with a particular player's career forever. Holloway of the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys had one of those moments when he went 5-for-5 at the plate in his team's 8-4 win over the Atom Cats at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium. It was his second-straight five-hit game. "I can't believe I did it twice. I won't forget this anytime soon, and I don't expect it to happen too often," the 22-year-old first baseman told reporters in the postgame interview. "I'll be happy to just get a hit or two every day. Enough to hang around the league a while longer. Like 10, maybe 15 more years." Holloway singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a GRAND SLAM off Junkyard Gourd in the 4th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 8th. This season, Holloway has hit 19 home runs and posted a .363 batting average. July 8 - It was a special day at Battle of Bunker Hill Memorial Stadium for Vault 81's Exxie Summerset. The Dwellers ace logged his 150th career win against the 75ers. In the 7-4 decision Summerset tossed 6.2 innings, surrendered 8 hits with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. "I'm real fortunate that I had the opportunity to play with such good players during my career," said Summerset. "I just couldn't have drawn it up any better. I'm glad I did it in this uniform, too. Vault 81 is a great organization to play for." Over the course of his career, Summerset has a won-lost record of 150 wins and 69 losses with 1400 strikeouts in 1993 innings pitched with a lifetime 3.56 ERA. July 11 - The Quincy 4-2 loss to Concord wasn't all bad. Something good came out it, at least for Baywatch Fischler. As a consolation prize he got the 2000th hit of his career. The veteran Gunners right fielder went 1-for-4 in the game and added his name to the coveted 2000-hit club. He was given a five-minute ovation by the crowd, which included his wife and family and quite a few former Gunners teammates. "I could have scripted it better," Fischler commented to the press after the game, "a win would have made it a lot more enjoyable. But what the hey... hit #2000 ain't so bad." Fischler has chalked up a career batting average of .320 with 2000 hits, 179 homers and 812 RBIs. BMU and GBRL The Boston Minor Union (A) and Greater Boston Rookie League (R) will conclude their regular seasons this week with each division winner headed to the playoffs. We will post a story with the final regular season standings once each league has concluded its regular season.

July 2314
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, CYL, and CBA by Nat Wright-Kawolski 18 July 2314 BMU Happy days are here for the playoff-bound teams. The Boston Minor Union regular season is over and the playoffs will soon get under way to determine the league's best team for 2314. The clubs are planning their lineups and pitching rotations, going over scouting reports, trying to glean bits of information that might give them the edge. Nothing is seemingly left to chance. It takes a lot of talent and sometimes a little luck to bring home the Boston Minor Series trophy. The regular season has closed and now the "real" season begins. The playoffs in Boston Minor Union start today and all the clubs that made it into the Association Championship are hungry to claim the ultimate prize: the champion's mantle -- the Boston Minor Series title. The playoffs begin today with these matchups: Lynn Woods Bloatflies (ET) vs Union Hope Lifegivers (SI) and DB Tech Nuclear Physicists (Lex) vs Greater Mass Vans (FHE). GBRL For the lucky few going to the playoffs, the season is just beginning. For most, the postseason is a just a distant pipe dream -- a season that could have been. Their season is over except for the bashing, rehashing and revamping that takes place in the hot stove league. It's now time for the dominant teams to do battle for the 2314 Greater Boston Rookie League championship. It will be decided in the Rookie Series. Only the best will be left standing. The Coastal Cottage Buds didn't win the North League Northeast Division by a wide margin, but the team still has an air of poise and confidence. A walk-off win over the Brunswick Brainiacs in the tiebreaker for the Northeast Division could do that. In the bottom of the 9th, pinch hitter Mystic Moore hit a walk-off, RBI single to knock in Katoa Merton for the 7-6 win. Merton had tripled in the tying run earlier in the inning. Both runs came with two outs. "We think we've clearly shown we're the best team in the division and now we want to show we're the best team in the whole league," said reliever Jackie Jones. "Everyone in this clubhouse believes in what we can do when we play our best baseball." It remains to be seen if we will see the best of Buds baseball in the postseason, but for now the team can enjoy the franchise's 1st division crown. Manager Cujo Jones said although his team was celebrating the division title late into the night, he wouldn't be partaking in the festivities. "I'll still be up early getting us ready to win, division championship or not," he said. "It's off to bed for me." Another regular season has played out, and the stage is set for the next level. The Greater Boston Rookie League playoffs are here. It has been a long, hard grind for the contending clubs to make the League Championship. All the playoff-bound teams want to cap off the year in glorious style by capturing the prestigious 2314 Rookie Series trophy. Each team will begin that journey today with these playoff games: Coastal Cottage Buds (Sou) vs Fiddler's Green T-60s (Obe) and Woonsocket Orphans (Lex) vs New Britain Oceanics (Mal).

July 2314
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, CYL, and CBA by Nat Wright-Kawolski 27 July 2314 CBO Analysis Most of the teams have now played 100 games, and we have reached the All-Star Break in the CBO. Vault 81 is currently the kings of the diamond, holding a 71-29 record and a 4.5-game advantage over The Slog for the CBO's top record. FHE is the only other team with 60+ wins. Nahant, Egret, and Roxbury all know they will not win their leagues in 2314, though they are not yet eliminated from playoff contention. Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization: Teams (Total Points, Tendency): 1) Vault 81 Dwellers (134.8, o) 2) The Slog Ghouls (127.1, o) 3) Diamond City Swatters (112.4, +) 4) Atom Cats (110.4, ++) 5) Oberland T-51s (109.8, ++) 6) FHE Yao Guai (106.8, -) 7) Lexington Synths (105.4, -) 8) Concord Radstags (102.2, ++) 9) Bunker Hill 75ers (102.0, ++) 10) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (99.8, +) 11) Glowing Sea Radscorpions (99.4, --) 12) Salem Witch Hats (94.8, +) 13) Southie Brews (94.8, +) 14) Quincy Gunners (92.0, --) 15) University Point Deathclaws (90.4, --) 16) Cambridge Coursers (89.4, --) 17) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (88.6, o) 18) Easy Town Assaultrons (82.0, +) 19) Starlight Killers (81.2, o) 20) Egret Ninjas (70.8, ++) 21) Malden Grognaks (70.8, ++) 22) Spectacle Island Reapers (70.0, -) 23) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (69.2, -) 24) Goodneighbor Hancocks (67.8, ++) 25) County Crossing Bloodbugs (67.5, --) 26) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (66.2, -) 27) Nahant Celtics (56.8, -) 28) Roxbury Rad Sox (55.8, -) If the playoffs were to start today, two leagues would have fine teams apiece, while the other two leagues would only have the league winners. In the SCA, there is still a lot of doubt who the final 6 will be, while there is only one extra team, Salem, in serious contention in the NCA. These would be the seeds: NCA 1. The Slog 2. Lexington 3. Fort Hagen 4. Bunker Hill 5. Concord 6, Cambridge SCA 1. Vault 81 2. University Point 3. FHE 4. Diamond City (5-3 vs Glowing Sea) 5. Glowing Sea (3-5 vs Diamond City) 6. Oberland Brotherhood League The Slog keeps distancing itself more and more with their games lead (15.5) almost matching their Magic # (16). That likely means the Ghouls will be the first team to clinch a league title. Salem is two games above .500 and just two back of Cambridge for the last playoff seed. Nordhagen Beach and Easy Town are technically still in contention, but would need to be well over 10 games over .500 in their last 30 (at least 20-10) to have a chance in the end. We do not foresee that. You can pretty much count out all of County Crossing, Malden, and Nahant. The Celtics have gone from NCA champions in 2313 to possibly drafting 1st overall in 2314. They are tied with Goodneighbor and Roxbury for the CBO's worst record. The Ghouls have played the part of the best in the North all season, currently 2nd in runs scored (542) and 1st in runs allowed (380). Everything has seemed to come together for what appeard to be their best shot to win the championship. The most outstanding offensive player has been SS Gavin Deux-Gas (.343/15/67/34 SB) who leads the team in average and RBI and is second in home runs and stolen bases. Other contributors include C Silvam Fourteen (.262/17/53), CF Bill Lazarus (.281/8/39/41 SB), and LF President Washington (.265/15/39). On the mound, SP Klement Thodberg (12-4, 2.86) has been great, while the rest of the starters are all below 4.00 ERA: Flirt Perez (8-7, 3.92), Scott Fuhr (11-5, 3.10), and Isaiah Swindler (11-5, 2.95). Orlando Bransford (9 SV, 1.31) has taken over closer duties from Austen Austin (13 SV, 3.81). Institute League All five of the teams have hovered around .500 the last couple of weeks. Lexington has emerged as the current leader after getting a series sweep of Fort Hagen nearly two weeks ago. With the Shroud two games back, the rest each trail each other by a game: Bunker Hill, Concord, and Cambridge. Starlight and Sunshine Tidings are out of the race. Bunker Hill has the making of a potential championship run with the Synths and Silver Shroud in its way. The 75ers are 1st in runs scored (545) and 6th in runs allowed (488), showing the pitching needs to step up to be championship caliber. LF Kasumi Goto (.324/29/84) and rookie 3B Miko Miko (.412/15/59) have been dominating opposing pitching. Miko was the 52nd-overall pick in the 2314 Rookie Draft but has been playing way above his talent scouting. On the mound, the first two starters, Hangman Alley (7-8, 3.67) and Jason Tonelli (10-7, 3.17), have been doing well, while Pokey Chatman (8-6, 4.31) and Cleveland Heep (9-6, 4.49) need run support to win. The bullpen has not been great with CL/SU Jim Livermore (13 SV, 3.38) holding the best bullpen ERA. Minutemen League With both Quincy (three-game losing streak) and University Point (five-game losing streak) struggling, Atom is the only ML team that would make the playoffs if they started today. Southie has worked its way to two games above .500, just five back of Oberland for the 6th spot. All of Spectacle Island, Jamaica Plain, and Goodneighbor have reached the 60-loss wall, meaning that they are unofficially eliminated from playoff contention assuming there is no 30-0 run to finish they year. The Cats are "outta sight" in the second half of the season, going 15-7 in July. The defending champions still need to make up some ground statistically before they take on the powerful Railroad League in the playoffs. Atom is 5th in runs scored (537) and 8th in runs allowed (501), which will not cut it to repeat. Seven players in the lineup have between 10-19 home runs, with the first two hitters, 2B Lee Mayhew (.289/19/61) and 3B Hulk Seepley (.307/19/71) leading in homers. LF Gremlin T. Squearfish (.337/11/75) is the best overall hitter. The Cat's top two starters, Doug Creep (13-4, 3.40) and Josh Brown (8-6, 3.46) have been the atom bomb, baby. RP Lippy Lyonne (11-0, 1.55) has ben something to watch from the pen. Railroad League FHE struggled a bit as of late, going 4-6 in their last 10, while Vault 81 went 7-3 to stretch its RL lead to 10 games and drop the Magic # to 21. Diamond City, Glowing Sea, and Oberland are all crowded in the 4, 5, and 6 seeds race. Egret and Roxbury could count their contention done. For the Yao Guai, they are statistically the only team that can challenge the Dwellers for being the top SCA team in 2314. FHE is 2nd in runs scored (568) and 3rd in runs allowed (457). Leadoff 2B Slip Knotty (.268/29/56/13 SB) has been explosive with his bat, currently leading the SCA in homers. RF Cameron Triggs (.305/14/66) and CF Missile Crews (.293/16/60) have also contributed on offense. On the mound, starters Nien Nunb (15-2, 3.97) and Kennett Kentucky (10-5, 3.67) have led the team. Closer Ryan Roberson (29 SV, 4.80) gets a lot of saves, but allows too many games to be exciting in the 9th. CBO Standings CBO Players of the Week July 20 - It's always a thrill for fans of the team and students of the game alike when a superstar in the making shows what he's got. Thatch Heard, the Salem Witch Hats 21-year-old right fielder, put himself in the spotlight last week making him the clear-cut choice for North Charles Association Player of the Week honors. He ripped 11 hits in 28 at-bats, compiling a .393 average with 3 home runs and 10 RBIs. This year, Heard is hitting .350, produced 98 RBIs and 29 home runs, scored 77 times and gotten on base at a .362 rate. 21-year-old Sheedy Smith sent shock waves through Commonwealth Baseball Organization last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the South Charles Association Player of the Week Award. A newcomer to the league, Smith made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .524 average, 11 hits in 21 at-bats, 2 home runs and 7 RBI. Where the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets first baseman goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but Smith certainly made his mark last week. Thus far this season in 91 games, Smith is batting .334 with 21 home runs, 66 RBIs and 55 runs scored. He has 104 hits in 311 at-bats. July 27 - Miko Miko of the Bunker Hill 75ers had an enormous week at the plate and today was voted the Player of the Week by the North Charles Association. For the week Miko batted .560 (14-for-25) with 1 home run and 3 RBIs. In his season totals Miko has 15 home runs and a .412 batting average. Egret fans had a lot to cheer about this week as first baseman Dynamo Bynes brought home the South Charles Association Player of the Week trophy. During his week-long batting binge he reeled off a .474 batting average, 9 hits and 4 home runs. Bynes also racked up 5 RBIs and scored 6 runs. This season, Bynes is batting .326 with 109 hits, 16 home runs, 51 RBIs, .401 OBP and has scored 51 runs. CBO Noteworthy News July 19 - College Luckyman of the Quincy Gunners pitched his way into the exclusive 150-win club today at The Stone House by stopping the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets 8-3. In his historic outing, he surrendered 8 hits and 3 runs in 7 innings with 5 strikeouts and 1 walk. With a huge grin on his face, the 33-year-old Luckyman told reporters after the game, "Now I got to get real busy -- and start working on my next 150 wins." Luckyman has rolled up a 150-99 career record and he boasts a lifetime ERA of 3.71. July 20 - Zeldolph Violet said he's made enough money in professional baseball, so it's time to move on. "I did pretty well for myself, my bank account isn't hurting, maybe I'll become a manager or a team owner or something so I can make even more," he said, announcing this season would be his last. "I'm 37 years old, so I've still got some time to make something of the rest of my life." To date Violet has a .311 career batting average and has totaled 415 home runs. July 24 - Chemists ace Mike Rubric reeled in his 150th career victory by beating the Starlight Killers 8-5 at ArcJet Systems Stadium. In his historic win, he notched 2 strikeouts in 1 innings, yielded 2 runs and 1 hit, while surrendering 1 walk. "I tried to focus on each batter," said Rubric after the game, "but as the game goes by, I couldn't help but think about the possibility. 150 is a big number. It's an exclusive club and I'm honored to be a member." The 36-year-old Rubric has made 488 appearances, crafted a 150-143 record, pitched 2505 innings and fanned 1635. He has 7 saves and a lifetime 4.20 ERA. July 25 - The Killers Jerry Weisman wrote his name in the league history books by picking up career victory number 150 today against the County Crossing Bloodbugs. In the Starlight 3-1 triumph at Valentine Detective Agency Field, the 36-year-old hurler went 8 innings, allowed 5 hits and had 1 strikeout and 2 walks. "I won't forget this day," an emotional Weisman told reporters. "It's hard to stay at the top for so long and to win 150 games is quite a feat." Over the course of his career, Weisman has a won-lost record of 150 wins and 165 losses with 1656 strikeouts in 2793.2 innings pitched with a lifetime 4.59 ERA. July 2314
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, CYL, and CBA by Nat Wright-Kawolski 29 July 2314 CBO All-Star Game All-Star Oberland T-51s' second baseman Odd Todd Walker had a night to remember. Not only did he take the field with the game's best players, he was also a huge factor in the 8-6 South Charles Association victory over the North Charles Association All-Stars. His three-run homer in the 8th inning made the difference, turning a 6-5 deficit into an 8-6 advantage. "We had a meeting before the game, and I was struck by the talent in the room. Old stars, young stars, it's a game I'll never forget," Walker said. "I talked to a few of my friends from back home, and they told me to go out and win the game for them. I'm sure they'll be thrilled." Looking at his career stats, Walker is batting .296 and has totaled 56 home runs. The 2314 Home Run Challenge provided some intense drama at Valentine Detective Agency Field. In the end, it was Justin Lower, the Starlight Killers catcher, who was crowned the champ. He dispatched C Red Jay Jones of Sunshine Tidings in the final round by a score of 7-6 in the battle of power-hitting catchers. "I was told this would be a heckuva lot of fun," said Lower. "And it was." In 223 career games Lower is hitting at a .269 pace with 209 hits with 17 doubles, no triples and 56 homers while scoring 129 runs and racking up 144 RBIs. He logged 98 walks and owns a .348 on-base percentage.

August 2314
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, CYL, and CBA by Nat Wright-Kawolski 1 August 2314 The August 1 Super Post CBO Players of the Month NCA Hitter - Brian DeLong battered North Charles Association pitchers all July and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award. "I've been around Commonwealth Baseball Organization long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 29-year-old DeLong told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month." In 23 games, DeLong hit .416 with 8 home runs, 25 RBIs and scored 20 runs. So far this season, DeLong is batting .330 with 34 home runs. SCA Hitter - Gremlin T. Squearfish made his presence known as one of the best young stars in the South Charles Association this past month. The Atom Cats left fielder shined through the month of July and has won the Batter of the Month award. The 22-year-old hit .387 with 4 home runs, 26 RBIs and 17 runs scored. Squearfish is swinging at a .340 pace on the year with 11 home runs, 76 RBIs and 67 runs scored. He has played in 98 games. NCA Pitcher - The Pitcher of the Month has been chosen and the North Charles Association trophy went to Nordhagen Beach hurler, Beachboy Nut. During the month, Nut was impressive with a 1.56 ERA and 4 wins and no losses. In 40.1 innings he struck out 31 and gave up 31 hits and 7 walks. This year, Nut has worked 163.1 innings with 97 strikeouts en route to a 11-4 record and a 3.14 ERA. SCA Pitcher - The Pitcher of the Month Award has been announced and the South Charles Association winner is Vault 81 hurler, Exxie Summerset. For his standout performances in July he has been named the league's best pitcher. During the month, Summerset excelled with a 2.20 ERA and 6 wins and no losses. In 41 innings he struck out 28 and gave up 37 hits and 13 walks. This season, Summerset has compiled a 16-4 mark with a 3.12 ERA. NCA Rookie - Youngster Miko Miko emerged as the latest North Charles Association Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Bunker Hill deserved the honor, batting .422 with 5 home runs and 17 RBI. Is the month of July a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Miko enjoy the limelight. For the year, Miko is hitting .407 with 15 home runs. His stats include 59 runs batted in and 61 runs scored. SCA Rookie - Sheedy Smith is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest South Charles Association Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers. In July the Jamaica Plain hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .350 average with 28 hits, 5 home runs and 14 RBIs. For the season, Smith is currently batting .327 with 23 home runs and 70 RBIs. In 99 games he has reached base at a .380 rate and scored 60 runs to date. CBO Top Performances Hitter - Zod Gaycey, Bunker Hill - After rising performance scores each month, July was a bit of a letdown with the highest score being 112, leaving Sheedy Smith's June performance of 151 as still being #1. Still, Gaycey's performance on July 1 was the best of the month. In a 14-4 spanking of the Ghouls in The Slog, Gaycey was 4 for 4 with a double, two home runs, four runs, and six RBI. Pitcher - Make Money, Quincy - On July 14, the Gunners' Make Money had the top performance of the month and the fourth overall with an 87 score. Money pitched eight scoreless innings, allowing three hits, walking one, and striking out 12 in Quincy's 3-0 win over University Point. Ty Gibbs' 94 performance points in June is still the top performance of the season. NEBL Analysis There are just 10 games remaining in the 2314 season. One division is settled, while the other three divisions still have a race happening, including the Vershire with a tie for 1st. The Clifton Vertibirds have clinched Maine Division, while their fellow Patriot League division, the Vershire, is knotted up. The Graygarden Action Boys and Abernathy Adamantium are tied thanks to the Adamantium's six-game winning streak. In the Yankee League, the Braintree Robobrains lead the Fall River Rippers by three games in the Mass Division, and the Providence Warlocks lead by four in the Connri over the Worcester Cannons. PL Hitter - Manchester Granites fans believe they've got a talented young star in Toro Ziyal. He did nothing to dissuade that notion in July, as he hit .417 with 7 home runs, 19 RBIs and 19 runs scored. The end result was the second baseman being named the Patriot League Batter of the Month. This season, Ziyal has hit at a .327 clip and produced 41 RBI, 13 home runs and 39 runs. YL Hitter - It's perhaps an award he'll win many more times through his career, as at age 24 Odo Capchange has a lot of baseball ahead of him. But for now the young Needham Archers star can enjoy the numbers he put up in July, which have garnered him the nod as the Yankee League Batter of the Month. His breakout month featured a .430 average with 5 home runs, 17 RBIs and 22 runs scored. So far this season, Capchange has hit .319 with 15 home runs, 51 RBIs and scored 62 times. PL Pitcher - Chad Behr of Clifton had an outstanding July with a 6-0 mark and was chosen the Pitcher of the Month in the Patriot League. He topped off the month with a 1.74 ERA in 7 starts, tossed 46.2 innings, fanned 38 and held opposing teams to a .188 average. This year, Behr has a 14-3 record with a 3.02 ERA in 24 starts. YL Pitcher - Dan Sharp was a long shot to make the Plymouth Pilgrims this year, especially being a 30-year-old rookie. Now the Plymouth hurler has parlayed a 4-1 record into the Yankee League Pitcher of the Month award. In July, he chalked up 33 strikeouts in 53 innings and compiled a 1.70 ERA. To date this season, Sharp has registered 22 starts, 10-8 won-lost mark, 3.34 ERA, 143 IP, 103 strikeouts and 72 walks. Opposing teams have hit .232 against him. MML Analysis Like the NEBL, the MML is down to its final 10 games with all four divisions still unsettled. In the Boggs Division, the Covenant Refractors lead the Watertown Armorers by three games. Littleton is up by two games on the Sanctuary Hills Zetans and three on the Winchester Bashers in the Murtagh Division. Looking in the Stars League, the Pawtucket Pips are up by six games over the Hull Lead Bellies in the Williams Dicision. The Yastrzemski Division is tied between the Newton Behemoths and Mayoral Shelter Tricentennials with the Bridgeport Gulchers just two back. The entire Yastrzemski is technically still alive in the division race. LL Hitter - Keen Sugiura may be much younger than other hitters in the Legends League, but he performed like a seasoned veteran in July to win the Batter of the Month award. The 21-year-old Revere Beach first baseman hit .347 with 15 home runs, 31 RBIs and 26 runs scored. In his 2314 season totals, Sugiura has 46 home runs, .320 BA, .437 OBP, 93 RBIs and 86 runs scored. SL Hitter - Even though he is a newcomer to Massachusetts Minor League, Dexion Evicus put up some good numbers in July and earned the SL Batter of the Month award. He was one of Bridgeport's offensive leaders with a .405 average in 29 games. He also racked up 14 home runs, 32 RBIs, and 35 runs scored. This season, Evicus is batting .383 with 88 hits, 29 home runs, 66 RBIs, 33 walks, .465 OBP and has scored 66 runs. He has played in 63 games. LL Pitcher - The Pitcher of the Month has been picked and the Legends League trophy went to Sanctuary Hills hurler Nick Soulless for his strong performance in July. During the month, Soulless was impressive with a 2.30 ERA and 7 wins and 1 loss. In 62.2 innings he struck out 60 and gave up 33 hits and 23 walks. Checking out his stats for the season, Soulless has registered 9 wins and 2 losses in 16 starts, posted a 2.46 ERA, and struck out 102 batters in 113.1 innings. SL Pitcher - There's something about a young rookie winning the Stars League Pitcher of the Month trophy that sends shock waves through the league. Such is the case with Kid Boots Appling, a 21-year-old starter for the Hull Lead Bellies. In July, he topped off the month with a 5-1 mark and 2.40 ERA in 7 starts, tossed 60 innings, fanned 57 and held opposing teams to a .219 average. This season, Appling has a 17-4 mark in 24 starts with a 3.84 ERA. He has given up 178 hits in 182.2 innings, struck out 154 and issued 55 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .256 batting average against him. BMU Playoff Results The DB Tech Nuclear Physicists are champions, today and forever. The Nuclear Physicists topped the Union Hope Lifegivers 8-7 at DB Tech Baseball Diamond today to claim the Boston Minor Series crown. "Nobody can take this away from us, not ever," said series MVP and right fielder Jamel Byrd after his club had sealed the victory. "We worked hard and we accomplished our goal." The atmosphere was electric as the newly-crowned champs stormed the field at the conclusion of the game. Fans cheered, gloves flew in the air, high fives and hugs were the order of the day. "From day one of spring training, I could see it in their eyes," said DB Tech manager Lockjaw Te. "The players had that look of intensity, of hunger, of a desire to accomplish something great, and today they did that. They're champions of the world." The Nuclear Physicists took the series 3-1. The new titleholders completed the regular season with a first-place finish in the Massachusetts Association Downtown Boston Division and a 55-33 record. GBRL Playoffs Results The New Britain Oceanics stunned the Fiddler's Green T-60s by sweeping the Rookie Series 3-0. The Oceanics dumped them 10-2 today at The Trailer Park in the deciding game of the series. This was the 2nd time New Britain has been the league champions. During the regular season the powerful Oceanics chalked up a 71-17 mark and finished in first place in the South League Southwest Division. August 2314
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, CYL, and CBA by Nat Wright-Kawolski 13 August 2314 NEBL Regular Season Ends New England Baseball League has put the wraps on another season. In a few days the playoffs will launch in grand style with the league's elite clubs going up against one another for the ultimate payoff -- the New England Series crown. For the baseball fan it doesn't get any better than this -- a time of tense duels, where the outcome of the season hinges on one pitch, one play, one hit -- or one break. There is nothing quite like the playoffs. The only last-day excitement was a scheduled season finale of th Abernathy Adamantium versus the Graygarden Action Boys with both teams tied for 1st at 61-46 in Vershire Division play. In that game, the Adamantium dismantled the home team, 13-6, to claim the division crown and a spot in the playoffs. Playoff baseball generates a reaction in every fan. To the fan of the perennial loser, it's a time to moan again about their team's misfortune. To the fan whose club defines success by the number of New England Series championship trophies lining their clubhouse walls, anything short of the ultimate victory is a disaster. This is playoff baseball. Baseball lovers can't help but be consumed by it in some way or another. There is nothing better than playoff baseball. These League Championship Series battles will unfold later today: Abernathy Adamantium vs Clifton Vertibirds and Braintree Robobrains vs Providence Warlocks. MML Regular Season Ends The dust has cleared from the regular season pennant chase and the clubs that survived are getting ready to do battle in the 2314 Massachusetts Minor League playoffs. Only the strong survive to play for the Massachussetts Minor Series championship. It's the playoffs -- a very special time to baseball fans everywhere -- and they start in just a few days. There were two extra games played since two divisions ended the regular season in a tie. In the Matt Murtagh Division, the Sanctuary Hills Zetans overtook the Littleton Ragers, 4-2, to claim the crown. In the Carl Yastrzemski Division, the visiting Mayoral Shelter Tricentennials scored five runs in the top of the 9th to topple the Bridgeport Gulchers, 6-4. From spring training to the last out of the regular season, it has been the goal of every GM, team, manager and player to reach the Massachusetts Minor League playoffs. They all aspire to win baseball's Holy Grail, the Massachussetts Minor Series title. Now, for the elite teams, the first steps of that journey begin in earnest with the League Championship Series starting today. The opening playoff series will pit these teams against one another: Sanctuary Hills Zetans vs Covenant Refractors and Mayoral Shelter Tricentennials vs Pawtucket Pips.

August 2314
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, CYL, and CBA by Nat Wright-Kawolski 17 August 2314 Perfect Game Highlights Exciting Action We have copied the news story to the "Noteworthy News" section below, but that was the news article. Here is the touchy-feely part. On August 8 in a matchup against Easy Town, Salem's Jaa Thirtysix made history. Thirtysix became both the second player in CBO history to throw a perfect game and the CBO's first player with two no-hitters in his career. In 2299, Nordhagen Beach's Tommy Beach threw the first-ever perfect game in a victory over Fort Hagen. It took Thirtysix 92 pitches, striking out four Assaultrons in the 6-0 victory. To cap off his perfect day, Thirtysix also delivered a two-RBI single. Thirtysix's first no-hitter came on April 20, 2312, in a victory over Goodneighbor. No other player has had two no-hitters, though some have come close. CBO Analysis Just two weeks remain in what has been an interesting and exciting 2314 season with a lot of drama and action left to go. Just two teams, Vault 81 and The Slog, have clinched playoff. Nine teams are officially out. The Dwellers have a chance to make history, but we will chat about that in the Railroad League analysis below. Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization: Teams (Total Points, Tendency): 1) Vault 81 Dwellers (127.6, o) 2) Quincy Gunners (118.6, ++) 3) Lexington Synths (118.3, o) 4) FHE Yao Guai (117.3, ++) 5) The Slog Ghouls (115.8, --) 6) Atom Cats (111.5, +) 7) Diamond City Swatters (107.6, +) 8) Glowing Sea Radscorpions (107.1, --) 9) Salem Witch Hats (102.8, ++) 10) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (98.5, --) 11) Oberland T-51s (98.5, -) 12) Concord Radstags (94.4, +) 13) Southie Brews (93.7, ++) 14) Cambridge Coursers (89.7, ++) 15) University Point Deathclaws (89.3, o) 16) Bunker Hill 75ers (84.4, --) 17) Starlight Killers (84.2, -) 18) Easy Town Assaultrons (82.2, --) 19) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (76.5, o) 20) Goodneighbor Hancocks (72.5, ++) 21) Roxbury Rad Sox (71.7, o) 22) Malden Grognaks (69.8, -) 23) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (69.7, +) 24) Spectacle Island Reapers (68.3, ++) 25) County Crossing Bloodbugs (67.8, -) 26) Egret Ninjas (67.4, --) 27) Nahant Celtics (63.2, -) 28) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (55.6, o) The present playoff positions look like this: NCA 1. z-The Slog - Magic # 3 to clinch BL 2. Lexington - Magic # 9 to clinch IL 3. Fort Hagen 4. Salem 5. Bunker Hill (5-5 vs Concord, 29-23 in IL play) 6. Concord (5-5 vs Bunker Hill, 30-25 in IL play) SCA 1. z- Vault 81 - Magic # 2 to clinch RL 2. Atom - Magic # 14 to clinch ML 3. FHE 4. Diamond City (3-1 vs Quincy) 5. Quincy (1-3 vs Diamond City) 6. Glowing Sea Brotherhood League The Slog has been consistently good all season, with the expectation that the BL is theirs to own in just a few days. This will be the first Ghouls league title in the full CBO. Their one other title came in 2297. Salem has been one of the hotter teams, including an 11-4 record so far in August to burst into the #4 spot and a solid 2nd in the BL. The remaining five teams are either almost out or officially eliminated with Easy Town, Nordhagen Beach, Malden, County Crossing, and Nahant making up places 3-7. The Witch Hats were out of playoff contention, it appeared, at one point. Now, they may host a first-round series. Salem is better on offense than pitching, as shown being the 2nd-best run-scoring team (633) and 7th in runs allowed (582). Part of the offensive success has been the one-two punch of RF Thatch Heard (.351/36/119) and 1B Brian DeLong (.321/35/98). LF Jig McGhee (.310/18/47/33 SB) is also a top contributor to the offensive machine. On the mound, the top three starters have an ERA below 4.00: Paul Stains (7-0, 3.12), Jaa Thirtysix (11-10, 3.58), and Chris Teddybear (9-4, 3.96). CL Corpulus Vinius (22 SV, 3.35) is the player holding the bullpen together. Institute League Lexington, along with Quincy, has been the CBO's hottest team, going 9-1 in their last 10, which included an 11-game winning streak before dropping one at Jamaica Plain on Saturday. Fort Hagen is still in the running for the IL, but they need to get hot like the Synths have been. Bunker Hill and Concord are tied for 3rd, while 5th-place Cambridge is still in the race. Starlight is not eliminated but will be later this week. Sunshine Tiidings still owns the #1 overall pick for the 2314 Draft. For the Synths, offense has not been their strong suit, but they are still winning games regularly. Like The Slog, Lexington has its flaws, and getting on base is one with the Synths currently 9th in scoring (562) and 13th in OBP (.319). CF Packs Ton Kling (.280/32/74) and 3B Tommy Whitetiger (.316/23/82) have been the leaders with RF Hurr Lee Reyes (.344/6/18) banged up for most of the season. The top two pitcher on the mound, Lyle Pine (15-7, 2.71) and Admiral Kelm (12-9, 3.23) have been great. CL Hunter Kim (35 SV 2.28) is an efficient closer. Minutemen League Atom and Quincy are so close that they can smell each other's cess pools. The Gunners are one of the hottest teams in the CBO, and they are now threatening to overtake the defending champions Cats for 1st place. University Point has drifted, the veteran team battling late-season injuries that have made them uncompetitive down the stretch. Southie is also just hanging on, while all of Goodneighbor, Jamaica Plain (which just fired MGR Fowl Rivera), and Spectacle Island make up the eliminated. The Reapers currently hold the #3 overall spot for the 2314 Draft. The Gunners are quietly good and could make some noise in the playoffs, especially if they win the ML. Quincy is 3rd in runs scored (655) and 6th in runs allowed (574). The true standout on offense has been 2B Will Hell (.308/30/91). Veteran RF Baywatch Fischler (.333/13/64) is still pretty spry. On the mound, Make Money (12-6, 3.12) has been the true hero, while College Luckyman (8-12, 5.07) and Fosdyke Rochambeau (10-10, 4.39) have struggled. The bullpen is not very good, especially with the acquisition of the #1-ranked closer, Professor Harriel (23 SV, 5.55) having a bad season. He had a 1.14 ERA with Roxbury last season. Railroad League As mentioned, the Dwellers hold the CBO's best record, 8.5 games better than The Slog. FHE is one of just four teams with 70+ victories, but at 12.5 back, it does not seem as great of an accomplishment. Still, consider the Yao Guai to be a player in the championship race. Diamond City, Glowing Sea, and Oberland make up the rest of the teams over .500 in the RL. Egret and Roxbury are in as tight battle for 6th place. Vault 81 was handled in two straight weekend games but Salem, 3-0 and 12-1. Before that, they were 10-2 and on pace to set the CBO record for victories in a season. They could still get there, needing to go 9-4 to close out the season to out win the 2304 Roxbury team (91-29 in a 120-game season). The .758 winning percentage of that team will not be touched, though, until a team wins 99 games in a 130-game season. back to 2314, the Dwellers are 1st in runs scored (729) and runs allowed (480). They are the most dominant team we have seen in a while, and anything but a championship would be a major upset. All eight starters have 10+ home runs, with each of LF Stu Gains (.282/22/80), 1B Pockets Wrench (.306/20/75), and C Phantom Vargas (.264/20/61) having 20+. On the mound, the 1-2-3 starting rotation of Zack Million (13-4, 3.47), Exxie Summerset (19-5, 2.99), and Scruffy Taguchi (14-5, 3.96) will be deadly in the playoffs. Fourth starter Ryan Goodpryce (15-5, 3.84) may be the best in the CBO, though he will probably pitch from the bullpen in the playoffs. CL Dynamite Delaney (33 SV, 3.11) leads a bullpen that is also solidly consistent. CBO Standings Players of the Week August 3 - Kasumi Goto demonstrated his potential to be a star in the game last week and today he took home the North Charles Association Player of the Week Award. The Bunker Hill left fielder wreaked havoc on opposing pitchers last week, pounding them for a .471 average (8-for-17) with 3 home runs and 10 RBIs on his way to claiming the honor. So far this season, Goto is batting .330 with 32 home runs, 94 RBIs and 81 runs scored. He has 116 hits in 352 at-bats, 75 walks and a .446 OBP. Goto has played in 99 games. The South Charles Association has chosen Wee Willy Warrington of the University Point Deathclaws as Player of the Week. What a week Warrington had. He hit .500 (8-for-16) with 2 home runs, 6 RBIs and 4 runs scored. In the current season, Warrington has put up a .299 batting average with 111 hits, 25 home runs, 79 runs batted in and scored 62 runs. August 10 - One of the league's most exciting young players, Thatch Heard of the Salem Witch Hats earned himself North Charles Association Player of the Week honors with a standout performance in last week's games. For the week the 21-year-old right fielder had a lofty .500 average (13-for-26), collecting 5 home runs, 12 RBIs and 7 runs scored. Heard is currently batting .357 with 35 home runs, 117 RBIs and 89 runs scored. He has 162 hits in 454 at-bats. Foo Fieterz is respected by most Oberland T-51s fans for his no-frills style of play. The 26-year-old left fielder went about his business with vigor last week to grab the South Charles Association Player of the Week honors. He compiled a .435 average (10-for-23) with 4 home runs, 13 RBIs and 10 runs scored. So far on the season, Fieterz is hitting .312 with 28 home runs, 90 RBIs and 87 runs scored. He has 120 hits and played in 109 games. August 17 - Needham Tickler is respected by most Salem Witch Hats fans for his no-frills style of play. The 30-year-old first baseman went about his business with vigor last week to grab the North Charles Association Player of the Week honors. He compiled a .800 average (8-for-10) with 4 home runs, 6 RBIs and 7 runs scored. Currently Tickler is hitting .316 and has collected 11 home runs, 31 RBIs and scored 19 times, while playing in 81 games. Will Hell has the tools to stick in this league for many years. The 21-year-old second baseman of the Quincy Gunners had a hot bat in the South Charles Association over the past seven days and won the Player of the Week honors. Hell batted .520 with 13 hits in 25 at-bats, 3 home runs and 8 RBIs. This year, Hell has hit 30 home runs and posted a .308 batting average. Noteworthy News August 7 - The 2314 amateur draft pool was published today with barely a mention on BNN. But then, fans rarely get drawn into amateur drafts. The players are not known commodities and they're not tangible, recognizable names. They might be five years down the road, but casual fans don't get sucked in by "might be," they get excited about what is happening in the here and now. Over the next 30 days, scouts will assess their possibilities, run mock drafts and formulate their plans. To help them, Commonwealth Baseball Organization has posted an interactive draft section on its Transactions page, which will be available for 90 days before draft day. The early favorites to be high picks are the following: 1. Fuzz Copman, 17 year-old 1B out of high-school. 2. Evan Keel, 20 year-old SS out of college. 3. Halep Gutteridge, 20 year-old 2B out of college. 4. Size Man Green, 17 year-old 1B out of high-school. 5. Merlin Hodges, 17 year-old 3B out of high-school. 6. Honker Trinkl, 21 year-old 2B out of college. 7. Lateral Booth, 20 year-old 2B out of college. 8. Sluggo Luge, 17 year-old 1B out of high-school. 9. Pop Dylan, 20 year-old 1B out of college. 10. Greenie Jamison, 20 year-old SS out of college. August 8 - Salem Witch Hats starter Jaa Thirtysix was as good as a pitcher can be, as he hurled a perfect game against the Easy Town Assaultrons. In doing so, Thirtysix accomplished one of the most difficult feats in baseball and one that will put his name in the record books. "I can tell you I've dreamed about a day like this," Thirtysix told the press after the game. "Now that I've done it, the feeling is even better." In his splendid 6-0 victory at Vim! Park of Salem, Thirtysix yielded no hits, walked none and had 4 strikeouts. In the historic outing he retired 27 successive batters. This year, Thirtysix has recorded a 10-10 mark. In 28 starts he has fanned 107 batters in 161 innings with a 3.69 ERA. August 9 - Tony Bertha of the University Point Deathclaws pitched his way into the exclusive 200-win club today at Hallucigen Stadium at UP by stopping the Goodneighbor Hancocks 11-1. In his historic outing, he surrendered 4 hits and no runs in 6.2 innings with 4 strikeouts and 2 walks. With a huge grin on his face, the 37-year-old Bertha told reporters after the game, "Now I got to get real busy -- and start working on my next 200 wins." In his career, Bertha has amassed 200 wins and 118 losses with an ERA of 3.52 and 1905 strikeouts. August 17 - You can't fire the players when times get tough. Fowl Rivera learned that the hard way today as he was dismissed from his managerial position with the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets. Citing a need to "shake things up," a team official said it was time to move on. "We respect what Fowl has done for the club and we thank him for his time here, but we just think the future of the Red Rockets needs to be handled by someone else and needs to move in a different direction," said club general manager Pacheco in a prepared statement. For his part, Rivera remained upbeat about the decision. "I know it's a business and sometimes you've just got to make a change," he said. "I want to thank Jamaica Plain for the opportunity to manage here." Team officials are expected to announce an interim manager in the next few days. Season Pass Association
---------------------------------------------------------- Nuka News Update Reporting on the NWL, APL, NWLR, and BBL Leagues by Evan Guy 21 August 2314 NWL: Reg. Season Ends with Victory-Cherry on Top For the majority of the Nuka World League ballclubs, they will have to wait until next year to make the playoffs. They missed their chance this year and will be spending the offseason living the good life and also getting ready for next year, when hope always springs eternal. But for a few select teams, they are still in the hunt. They have made the playoffs. This is their day in the sun. This is their chance to win league championship. This is their moment of fame and glory. This is their chance to win the Nuka Series. Playoff baseball generates a reaction in every fan. To the fan of the perennial loser, it's a time to moan again about their team's misfortune. To the fan whose club defines success by the number of Nuka Series championship trophies lining their clubhouse walls, anything short of the ultimate victory is a disaster. This is playoff baseball. Baseball lovers can't help but be consumed by it in some way or another. There is nothing better than playoff baseball. These Nuka Series battles will unfold later today: Victory Cave Crickets vs Cherry Ghoulrillas. APL: Red Rocket-Grandchester in APS Another Amusement Park League campaign is in the books. The regular season has ended and the playoffs are about to begin. It is a time of skill, talent -- and luck. And when all the games have been played, one team will survive and be crowned the 2314 Amusement Park Series champion. What months ago was a dream is now reality. The trade deadline has passed, along with all the GMs' wheeling and dealing. Contract negotiations are on hold. Front office work is all put on the back burner. Now it's time for each club, player, coach and manager to put their imprint on Amusement Park League history. Nobody will remember the free agent who got away. No one will care about the trade that fell through. People will remember just one thing about the playoffs -- the team that wins the Amusement Park Series crown. The Amusement Park Series starts today with these matchups: Grandchester Flying Ants (Cherry) vs Red Rocket Radrats (Grape). ---------------------------------------------------------- Vim! View Veracious, Vivacious, Vainglorious Vision of the Vim! Leagues by Vikky Vail 21 August 2314 VL: Gulpers-Acadians to meet in Vim! Series Another regular season is in the books, and the playoffs will begin in a couple of days. It will be a battle of survival -- and the final survivor will be the Vim! League champions. The "haves" will be in their radiant glory, playing for the league title, while the "have-nots" will be at home, sitting by the hot stove until springtime. Playoff baseball is a special time of year. General managers who have struggled all year to steer their club to the promised land love it as they make those final, pivotal roster selections going into the Vim! Series. For them, this is an elusive, exciting, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to win the Vim! League Vim! Series. The playoff docket begins with these games today: National Park Gulpers vs Acadia Acadians. MDIL: Actors vs Shipwrecks for Finale The 2314 season has come to a close and the playoffs will commence in a few days. The qualifying teams are gearing up for the so-called "second season" that determines the Mount Desert Island League title. Soon there will be only two clubs left in the running, and they will be matched up in the Mount Desert Island Series. Then there will be only one -- the new league champions. A playoff baseball game has a surreal atmosphere. Fans become one, roaring in unison at a great play and sharing the grief at blown opportunity. Victory and defeat play out in a rainbow of colors, sounds, smells and feelings. Mount Desert Island League playoff baseball is a memorable experience. What is it like? Ask the 10-year-old sitting with his dad as he plucks a foul ball out of the air. Ask the veteran slugger who hits that walk-off home run. Ask the manager in the big game after coming from 10 games back to win the pennant. Ask the countless number of legends who have flourished or those greats who never won the big one. Or tomorrow, ask any of the rookies what it's like to play in one of the Mount Desert Island Series showdowns: MS Azalea Shipwrecks (Acadia) vs Cliff's Edge Actors (Cranberry Island).
