A trio of Redbirds -- shortstop Gustavo Melendez, starting pitcher Thomas White and relief pitcher Steven Howard -- will be members of the National League roster for the upcoming All-Star Game.
It is the first selection for Melendez and Howard and the seventh for White.
Melendez, 26, was selected via fan vote to be the starting shortstop for the National League.
In 58 games/56 starts, he has hit .244 with nine home runs, 39 RBIs, 53 runs scored and 24 stolen bases.
In his first season with the Cardinals after establishing himself as one of the league's best pitchers while with the Miami Marlins, the 29-year-old White has gone 9-5 in 14 starts this season with a 3.53 ERA.
The left-hander has pitched a total of 114.2 innings, striking out 126 and posting a 1.14 WHIP.
This will be the first All-Star Game for the left-handed Howard, who the Cardinals acquired from the Chicago White Sox in the offseason.
He has pitched in 38 games going 4-4 with one save and a 2.08 ERA.
Howard has pitched a total of 47.2 innings, during which he has struck out 68 and posted a 0.82 WHIP.
