Buildings

Is there anyway I can put building behind some of the historical 3D parks so the park doesn't look like it is floating in space, e.g. the old Cleveland League park? I hate to ask you to do it because you are always doing something to help others and I don't want to be another burden.

Thanks.

As I mentioned previously. You don't want to get into putting too many extra 3D buildings into the model because it will increase the file size and the load time of the stadium.

I hear ya with the floating in space thing. There maybe a way to incorporate a large background image if you can find one.

Yeah, I dunno. Putting a 2d background really messes with the effectiveness of 3D in my opinion. It would be great if they could build in a day and a night background into the environment

Any suggestions as to where I could look for better city scapes that would work with 3D?

I'll leave this open to the rest as it is a bit beyond my knowledge

I'll just try to describe it better:

As far as foul territory in the OF and in fact even right around 1B/3B, the park I picked as its basis (partially for the reason of all the foul territory) is good. But then in the IF, down the 1B/3B lines (ideally even behind home plate), I want it to have below average foul territory, the idea being that I don't want lots of foul balls caught. I'm trying to make a good hitters' park except for giving up a below average amount of HR's (but not that far below average, the reason for the close CF and why I just decided to move everything in).

The other aspect is RF, where I'd like it to come in to be 363 feet from home plate at its closest point kind of just behind where the RF plays, and then have a bend in the wall-- not smooth, but an actual bend as it's angled near that near-point as it the RF line were going to be 350 or something but suddenly when it hits 363 it makes a sharp turn (the angle doesn't change that hugely, so it may not be all that sharp) back out to 373 down the RF line. The sharp turn keeps it from looking too much like the 70's cookie cutter parks.

Oh, and its foul territory in the corners should actually be deeper than fair territory down the lines. The game may be limited in how much it lets the ball bounce around in there, but at least the park should be designed so that in real life it would do that. And the park I'm using that I only modified with the in-game editor, the ball just dies in the corners a lot and the fielders at least have to dig it out...so I think I can get some of what I'm looking for, anyway.

Thank you for volunteering to do a bit extra to get it just right!
So, i fixed the foul territory a little in right field, but with the distances you gave, it just wasn't showing that drastic of a bend that you wanted so I just stuck with the park I was working on . Perhaps I will go back and work on it some more later on at some point, but here is something you can use now

Hey Silvam,

First off, thanks for all of the ballparks! Amazing work, and I'm using many of them in my various leagues. Here's a quick question. Have you checked out the default minor league park that comes with the game? It has a different (and, arguably, better) style for the seating. I'm not sure where the various styles and templates come from, but I just thought I'd point out these seating images in case you hadn't encountered them.

A couple small requests: If you have a chance to revisit any of your fictional parks, two things I'd love to see are 1) real-looking grass in the ones where the grass looks kind of plastic, and 2) versions without lights (for use in old-timey, pre-night game leagues). For the record: I completely appreciate how much time you've spent on all of this. If there were Academy Awards for OOTP mods, you win this year, hands down. So, no pressure or anything for my idiosyncratic request, but maybe there are other old-time players who would appreciate it, too.

Thanks again.

Thanks for the kind words and also for the requests. I think most of my historical parks use the same grass patterns, but I'll go back and check the older ones. That's an easy fix that can and should be done.

As far as the lights are concerned, I realize that some users have their own "things" that make the game feel authentic, but I am hesitant to make multiple versions of certain stadiums with (what I consider to be) minor changes. Stadiums are more involved than just an image. It's a group of files and pics that can get quite cumbersome and confusing (especially trying to name the stadiums so you can know which one is which).

With that said, I have started including the sketch up files in the zip so anyone can go in and remove the lights, or change the advertisements, or change anything else they want, and then export it into OOTP.

For you, all you would have to do is load up the file in sketch up, select each set of lights, and delete them. Voila. No need for any special skills at all.

Let me know if this interests you. I will readily share my sketch up files

Also. As far as the minor league stadium and the crowd. It is interesting, but I'm not convinced it looks better. From a distance it looks kind of metallic. I'll have to see if I can find the textures that were used.

Thanks for the quick response. I'll see if I can figure out the light-removal deal (although I'm always hesitant to mess with computer stuff that's above my pay grade ). As for the parks with the funky grass textures, I was referring to the fictional, not the historical parks you've made.

Cheers.

I looked at the files for the 3D parks that come with the game and the ones that have building behind/around the parks have the building 'built' in to the .wep files. The 3D parks that come with the game are obviously formatted differently than the ones you make. I searched around for some digital 3D cityscapes but to no avail unless I pay for them. Since I don't have any 3D software nor the knowledge about it, I guess I can't help.

Adion,

I hate that...it would be nice to have some type of background there so that the parks aren't floating in midair.

3D park backgrounds

Some of the parks that come with the game have buildings built in to the park file and they look okay. You can see them in .WEP files. Why they don't have them for all the parks, I don't know. I believe that all the 3D parks were not formatted by the same person. I noticed differences in the .WEP file formats when I has adding signs. I tried to find a way to modify the the .obj files but couldn't. I don't have the software or enough knowledge. Silvam has done a really good job with the 3D parks he has made but his formatting is different that the ones that come with the game. I suspect that eventually Silvam, or someone else, will come up with a good way to add those backgrounds so that we don't have floating parks. I enjoy playing the game in 3D mode and for a lot of the parks you don't see much outside the park when you actually are playing a game.

I'm really focusing on the parks themselves at this time. I suspect it will take a while for things to get perfected. (OOTP didn't get to where it is now over night)

I am not trying to project myself as any kind of expert in 3D modeling. I'm just someone who always loved the uniqueness and quirkyness of baseball stadiums and wanted to try to learn how to make them.

I appreciate that people have a hard time with the current background, but I like to look at it as if I had this as a board game on my kitchen table and little guys are hitting and catching the ball in a lifelike historic park. Doesn't really matter what is on the other side of he kitchen to me.

Again, if it didn't take up so much file space, I would have probably had some generic buildings to put down as a background. Or taken some from the 3D warehouse. It just isn't a priority for me.

My money is on that people would rather have more historic and fictional parks with no background, than only a handful with backgrounds
