I anticipate my free time to become a little better from mid-December to hopefully at least the summer of next year. Then I can get this back on track. For this dynasty, I am at a bit of a bottle neck. Either I drop all storylines and become like J. Henry Waugh, just continuing on without purpose. OR, I take the time to get in the biggest of big stories that is due in February of 2317. There were some other storylines, too, that I delayed/abandoned. But those stories now are due. I cannot continue like I want to until I stop the OOTP side and get the narrative on a sensible track. I promise that will come. Thank you again for checking in, and I hope all has been well for you, too.

January 2317
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 9 January 2317 Where Does Jarrett Metalbox Fit in CBO History? In the first year of the CBO, Easy Town's Jarrett Metalbox looked to be on his way to all-time greatness. Originally drafted at the top of the 8th Round in the 2296 Inaugural Draft by the then East Boston Prep Assaultrons, the 17-year-old Metalbox immediately made an impact in the Brotherhood League, leading with a .404 average. Two years later, when the CBO formed, he did it again, leading the Easy Town team to the NCA's second-best record behind Nordhagen Beach. Metalbox was the NCA's leader in average (.408), OBP (.453), and hits (180) in a 108-game season. That .408 average stood as the CBO record until 2307 when Barker Cocoa surpassed it with .421 mark, but it still stands as the NCA record, three points higher than Miko Miko's 2314 performance, Metalbox was named the first-ever Nuka-Hitter Award winner, to go along with the BosCom Positional Hitter Award at LF, and an All-Star selection. In leading the Trons to the Sole Survivor Series, where they were swept by a dominant Goodneighbor team, Metalbox earned the NCALS Series MVP in a 3-1 series win over Fort Hagen. His four awards proved to be the only awards of his 21-year CBO career. In 2304, Easy Town traded Metalbox to the NWL's Victory Cave Crickets where he helped them to a Nuka Series championship. He was traded back to the CBO (Starlight) to start the 2305 season but could never find success like he did in the inaugural CBO season. Still, Metalbox's career numbers are decent. He is 19th all-time among retired CBO players in career average (.3015). In Easy Town team history, he is tied with Lannie Tykeson for 2nd in team average (.328), 5th in OBP (.373), 3rd in SLG (.485), 5th in OPS (.858), 6th in WAR (18.2), 8th in runs (420), 8th in hits (939), and 6th in TB (1389). The Assaultrons did not retire his #16, currently taken by1B Albie Cannibal. He will not be considered an all-time great. What history tells is that Metalbox was an above-average player who had one magical season. He was the CBO's and NCA's Mr. 2298.

February 2317
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 23 February 2317 Changes and Sadness Nate Howard is gone. Not dead, but no longer here in the Commonwealth. Today we woke up to the news that Jimmy LaRue would be taking over permanently as commissioner of the Commonwealth Baseball Organization. LaRue, as many know, claims to have been a baseball player in the Mojave, a place in the West where the Brotherhood of Steel and a faction called the NCR had battled for control over many years. According to LaRue, the president of that NCR was someone that was vile and evil and made the land much, much less safe than it should be. Now LaRue left not long after retiring, According to him, he headed east based on tales from a person called Dee Historian who told of clues left by another commissioner of that Mojave league, someone very similar to Nate Howard, who had a vision that seemed quite similar. As my readers know, Piper Howard is my sister. She was the one who founded Publick Occurrences. She and I built it into a journalistic empire, and now we are part of the BNN where I report almost exclusively on the happenings of baseball in the Commonwealth. Piper was also a companion of Nate’s out in the in the wastelands, fighting for the freedom that we now know. They were very close for a very long time before different interests in the times of peace took them in different directions. Yes, they're both involved with baseball. They're both a part of this build that we have here with Piper now running all of the communications of the Commonwealth. And she shared with me the letter that she received today, the one from Nate Howard where he has declared that he will be here no more. She gave me permission to share it below. Nate also had other companions than the Commonwealth like Robert MacCready, the mayor of Diamond City. And Nick Valentine, Diamond City’s top detective. Among others. I'll ask them also if they received a letter. I'm curious to know whether or not they allow me to share. I don't know, but I do know this. Piper has already expressed to me that Nate will be missed. But, of course, views go beyond sports. And the politics of this land were held in check by Nate Howard being here. With him gone, there's hope here though that the people that have been put into power, have control of each of the factions we know. Those who are benevolent, who understand the importance of what we have built here and would not defy that. I am confident that the CBO will keep going, keep thriving, keep building on itself. But Nate is its foundation, and that leads to some doubt. Jimmy LaRue put out his own statement today stating that his mission is to make the CBO continue to be that foundation of its own that supports the people of the Commonwealth. That gives everyone hope that where we came from is not what we must be. There's a saying around here that war never changes. Well, Nate has changed that war saying. He brought peace and unity to this land. Nate did not believe that war never changes. He believed that if we made it our mission, our actions to fight directly for peace, for freedom, for a sense of hope that war could change, war could become redundant. And that is what we of the Commonwealth now believe. War can change. War can be redundant. We can fight on. And even though Nate is no longer here. We. Will. Survive. Nate’s letter: Dearest Piper, What we talked about that would happen has happened. This is a letter to let you know that this is a goodbye. I don't know if it's a final goodbye or it's a temporary one, but I do know that I have to go away. Far, far away and immediately. I wanted to pin this letter as that letter that would be the one that would let you know. That I'm OK. There is no need to search. It is something that I must do. And I leave to you what we've had since the beginning: that sense of adventure, cunning, and curiosity. Now, you may want to find out more about where I've gone and why, but right now that is not something that I can share. It's a part of something much, much bigger than the Commonwealth. Things that are important to the future of civilization. I appreciate every moment that we spent together, the days that we worked to turn this place from what it was to what it is, a place where people can survive and thrive. You've been among one of the best companions I've had. And I want to thank you. Yours, Nate

February 2317
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 22 February 2317 Lovetap Passes Away in Bradberton As if the news was not terrible already, BNN has learned that CBO star Homestay Lovetap has passed away in Bradberton. Lovetap had been hospitalized since October 5 when he was attacked by a swarm of flying ants and had an allergic reaction to the ants' venom. The one-time Nuka-Hitter Award winner who hit a CBO record 61 home runs in 2306, finished his career with the Oberland T-51s, his fifth squad. Lovetap was originally drafted by Jamaica Plain in the 5th Round of the 2300 Draft. He was traded to Warwick (now Spectacle Island) in 2302 and earned the SCA Red Rocket Rookie Award the following season at 21 with a .273/34/63 line. In 2306, he hit .346/61/149 but finished 3rd in Nuka-Hitter Award voting. In his Nuka-Hitter Award season (2308), Lovetap hit .315/51/106. Lovetap later played with Egret (part of 2312), Salem (part of 2313), and the T-51s (2313-2316). The Reapers franchise has announced that they plan to retire #22 in honor of Lovetap. Lovetap would have turned 35 on February 26.

Number of the Gods
In the Boston Public Library, there was a book of tales, The Treeshadow Legacy, set in a place called the Godlands by an author called Oval the Curious. In these tales, he spoke of ascension. The most curious of all of those aspects is that Oval claimed to be from a different universe where every tale within this volume was claimed to be true. The ascension was something where a human became what he called a "lesser god." He stated that at any time there could be only 32. Or was it 16? I forget now. These lesser gods were protectors of the land.
They kept the onerous, vile creatures of a higher order from destroying the world and all that dwelled on it. Oval the Curious wrote many tales about these gods and adventurers, and there was even mention of a game like the one we call baseball meant to act as a sacrificial ceremony for the higher gods. I was very curious about that. But what was most curious was a number I have seen elsewhere, the number 272. In my investigation, I found many reports by someone named West-go Joe. He was heading to the Mojave to investigate further. He called 272 the “number of the gods.” Was he just a big fan of Oval the Curious? Or is there a connection? Why is 272 associated with Nate Howard? There has to be a massive connection. Unlike those of the Institute that needed devices to teleport, Nate was able to just jump to different places in a way that no one could explain and he would never tell. It was almost as though Nate had become godlike like in Oval the Curious’ tales. Human in god form or a god in human form? The story that Nate has disappeared is out, and I think I know some of the secrets, just like West-go Joe reported. I'm going to Nick. I've got a theory. And that theory is the answer to the number of the gods.

March 2317
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 2 March 2317 It's Baseball Season! After a February to forget, it is now time for the good news: the 2317 baseball season begins tomorrow when the Play-in Round of the Nuka Cup Tournament begins. Last year, the Nuka Cup Tournament had a surprising team in the final with the Lexington Synths sweeping the Southie Brews, 3-0. The Brews had finished near the bottom of the SCA in 2315 and continued that struggle, finishing with the CBO's worst record in 2316. Lexington also struggled after a playoff season and a trip to the Sole Survivor Series in 2315, finishing 6th in the Institute League in 2316. This season, host teams in seeded order are Quincy, Easy Town, Glowing Sea, and Malden. In the Play-in Round, March 3-5, host teams get a bye, while seeds 2-7 fight for three spots in the regional brackets. The #2 seed faces the #7 seed, the #3 seed faces the #6 seed, and the #4 seed faces the #5 seed. The first game tomorrow will have first pitch at 12:05 in the Malden Regional when #6 Spectacle Island faces #3 The Slog. A pre-game moment of silence in memory of fallen star Homestay Lovetap will take place. New CBO commissioner, Jimmy LaRue, released a statement about the start of March's Nuka Cup: "We know it has been a tough offseason, but my mission is to make the CBO even better. We are still growing, and our influence now has reach throughout the Northeast." Twelve games will be played in the Saturday through Monday Play-in Round, from 12:05-9:05 each day, with the team winning two or three games in each series moving on to the next round.

Both teams were in the postseason with New Hampshire winning the Northern Commonwealth Conference and UMass entering as an at-large team after finishing 4th in the Massachusetts Conference. The Wildcats were eliminated by Yale in the Elite Eight, while the Minutemen were eliminated by Commonwealth U in the Sweet 16. Yale and the Terriers advanced to the Final Four. Semifinals Matchups - All games at the Great Green Jewel Vault 81 (#2 Malden Regional) vs Nordhagen Beach (#4 Quincy Regional) Oberland (#2 Easy Town Regional) vs Fort Hagen (#4 Glowing Sea Regional) CYL It is not often we report on game action in the CYL, but senior SP Fog Slater's performance in Portland's 1-0 win over North Adams in 11 innings is worth mentioning. Slater did not have a decision, but he did pitch 10 shutout innings, racking up a record-setting 23 strikeouts!
