Wanted: 1925 Dubuque Team Photo
I'm looking for a team photo of the 1925 Dubuque team, managed by Joe McGinnity to start the season. Included in the photo should be a pitcher identified as Blackburn, who was in fact Verne Blackbourn. Verne Blackbourn pitched one game for the White Sox in 1921; this game is currently incorrectly attributed to Charlie Blackburn. Blackbourn pitched for Dubuque in 1925 from the start of the season through mid-August.
I have located a photo of Verne Blackbourn from later in his life, when he was a farmer raising cows in Wisconsin. |

1888 Leadville Blues team photo
This team seems to have been under independent status for 1888, but here is a team photo. According to historycolorado.org, the players are supposedly: Marshal “Butch” Blake (first base and manager), Dawson (center field), Dolan (left field), Warren “Lefty” Fitzgerald (pitcher; front row, left), John Foutz (shortstop), Green (right field), W. H. Hughes (third base), King (secretary; center, wearing street clothes), Orth (second base), Angus McDonald White (middle row, far left), and George Washington Whyte (catcher; front row, right).

Probably wrong but I just want to make sure
Some sites listed this image as the 1921 minor leaguer F.F. Richardson. The image itself was colorized by me like 5 years ago because I thought it was a cool image but I'm not convinced this is the player, and I am 99.9% sure the name on the bottom is the photographer's name, not to mention that I don't think the uniform style really matches those of the 20s either (or if that's even a baseball uniform at all for that matter). I will just ask the experts on here to officially confirm it though.

1901 and 1904 Colorado Springs Millionaires Team Photos
By request.
I don't have IDs for the 1901 photo, and only partial IDs for the 1904 image, which, according to the IDs provided in 2013, shows Bunk Congalton on the left of the middle row, Jimmy Ryan in the center of the middle row, and Rabbit Nil in the center of the front row.

Colorado Springs Sky Sox 1950 Player ID?
I've been trying to identify this player in a Colorado Springs Sky Sox uniform. I bought it off eBay in a collection of 3 players from the 1950 team, but this one was not identified. I've tried to match the face from two team pictures (beginning of season/end of season) but not sure. As there was no ID, I also think it may be a player that did not have a long career. My guess at this point it is either Bill Briggs from the early newspaper team photo (COS Gazette April 23, 1950) or it is Gene Evans from the late season photo. Thoughts?
1950 Colorado Springs Sky Sox (end of season photo ID - bottom) Back row left to right - Dick Strahs, Joe Kirrene, Tex Beesley, Ted Shandor, Jim Kamis, Jim Baumer, Russ Oppliger, Joe Dahlke, Sam Hairston, Buddy Hassett Middle row left to right – Gene Evans, Bob Boyd, Connie Juelke, Buddy Phillips, Pat Seerey, Walt Smola, George Rutenbar, “Doc” Bob Bricker Front Row – Bob Paterson, Larry Long, Jim Cunningham |

and despite the caption in that early season 1950 Sky Sox team picture, that is NOT 'Red Schoendienst' - it is his brother Elmer. He was trying to continue his minor league career as a pitcher, but it did not last long.

1952 Pueblo Dodgers w/families
Since I am new to this forum, I'll be posting a few pictures I've found interesting in my collecting.....first, is this picture of the 1952 Pueblo Dodgers, Class A Western League. I've never found this picture in a newspaper, tho the paper did do a story about the player wives and their kids for Mothers Day May 1952. I assume this picture may have only been given to the players. A note on the back however says it was sent to the Sporting News for possible publication, but I've never found it there either. I always have thought this is a pretty unique picture. I'll post later a "clean" (or usual) version of the 1952 team.
Five in this picture made it to the majors at one time or the other: Glen Gorbous, Clyde Parris, Ray Shearer, Bill McCahan, Joe Stanka |

1952 Pueblo Dodgers Team Photo
1952 Pueblo Dodgers Team Photo
L-R 1st Row (sitting) – Gil Shirk, Marvin Williams?*, Norman Postolese, Bat Boy?, Bud Fustin, Jonathan “Clyde” Parris, Lacey Curry 2nd Row (standing) – Robert Crain?*, Leonard Lamont, John (J.C.) Walker, Bill McCahan (manager), Lynn Rogers, Dale Steen, Ray Shearer 3rd Row (standing) – Harvey (?Trainer?); Danny Hayling, Jack Elkins, Al Leap, Glen Gorbous, Ira Moxley, Joe Stanka, Ernest Nichols * There is no identification of the player in the first row and I cannot make out the signature/name on the player in the second row. However, based on the Pueblo team “family” picture posted earlier, I believe these two players are Marvin Williams and Robert Crain. I put Crain in the second row based on his eyebrow (! although the first row player is shaded by his hat), but they could be switched. Welcome any thoughts. I used baseball-reference’s Pueblo roster to confirm the roster and names. https://www.baseball-reference.com/r...gi?id=e38db134 There are four players from the BR roster that appear to be missing from this picture – Bill Mosser, Dick Spady, Chris Van Cuyk and Red Witt. But even with the illegible identification on the player in the second row, I don’t think any of these players are in the picture. But…… Final note – Baseball-Reference shows Clyde Parris as having played in the Negro Leagues and Lacey (Kirk) Curry as born in 1928 but no passing date. I just googled him and whoa – I believe he is still alive (in Chicago). There is a story there! |
