July 2318
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 15 July 2318 Four-Team 50-Win Club Includes Three in IL The Institute League has been considered to be the "weakest" league in the CBO for quite some time. This season, though, the CBO has four 50-win teams and three of those teams reside in the IL: Fort Hagen, Lexington, and Concord. Vault 81 is the sole 50-win team in the South Charles Association. As it stands, 10 total teams are within three games of the CBO's top record, 51-37. Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization: Teams (Total Points, Tendency): 1) Starlight Killers (107.3, ++) 2) Concord Radstags (106.2, ++) 3) Lexington Synths (105.2, -) 4) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (104.3, ++) 5) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (103.4, +) 6) Vault 81 Dwellers (103.2, --) 7) Diamond City Swatters (102.1, +) 8) The Slog Ghouls (99.1, o) 9) FHE Yao Guai (97.1, --) 10) Goodneighbor Hancocks (96.1, --) 11) Cambridge Coursers (96.0, +) 12) Easy Town Assaultrons (95.0, ++) 13) University Point Deathclaws (91.1, --) 14) Glowing Sea Radscorpions (91.0, ++) 15) Malden Grognaks (90.0, --) 16) Southie Brews (89.9, +) 17) Nahant Celtics (87.0, --) 18) Oberland T-51s (86.7, ++) 19) Atom Cats (85.0, o) 20) Egret Ninjas (84.1, -) 21) Roxbury Rad Sox (83.0, +) 22) Spectacle Island Reapers (82.7, --) 23) Salem Witch Hats (80.9, --) 24) Bunker Hill 75ers (79.9, -) 25) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (77.6, +) 26) Quincy Granites (75.9, -) 27) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (60.5, +) 28) County Crossing Bloodbugs (60.5, -) NCA Current Seeds: 1. Fort Hagen 2. The Slog 3. Lexington (3-2 vs Con) 4. Concord 5. Starlight 6. Easy Town SCA Current Seeds: 1. Vault 81 2. Jamaica Plain 3. FHE (4-3 in 3-way tie: 2-3 vs DC, 2-0 vs Good) 4. Goodneighbor (3-3 in 3-way tie: 3-1 vs DC, 0-2 vs FHE) 5. Diamond City (4-5 in 3-way tie: 3-2 vs FHE, 1-3 vs Good) 6. University Point Brotherhood League The Slog continues to lead in the BL, but Easy Town has crept up into second place, just three back, with the Assaultrons now in the playoff picture. Nahant and Malden are at .500 with a cold Salem now four games under .500. Country Crossing and Nordhagen Beach are the CBO's two worst teams. For the Bloodbugs, being a powerful team from 2301-2313 was a given, including their Sole Survivor Series championship in 2306. Since then, well, they have fallen off, dropping to 6th place in 2314 and then never finishing above 6th or 7th in the standings since then. This year appears to follow that pattern. One big problem is pitching, where the Bugs are 14th in runs allowed (528), Starters ERA (5.15), and Bullpen ERA (6.13). Ace SP Scooter Harcourt (8-7, 3.65) has been the lone holdout in terrible pitching. On offense, County Crossing is a little better, at least in rank for runs scored (10th with 415 runs). CF Scott Eacott (.322/14/66) may be their sole All-Star quality player. Trading Block Players of Note: County Crossing - 2B Yoink Yukon, SP Whip Lashley, SP Shaak Ti Easy Town - CF Eden Babz (!!!), SS Stormin' Normin MacDonald (!!!) Malden - 3B Jacob Tarberry (!!!), 2B Jack of Diamonds Cordero, SP Hrye Caje, SP Ahsoka Tano, LF Taffy Dare Nordhagen Beach - LF Mork Mendee, SP Nervous Patron Institute League As mentioned in our opener, three of the CBO's top records reside in the IL. But we did not even mention the CBO's #1 team in this week's Power Rankings, Starlight. By dropping their game to Southie yesterday, the Killers saw their nine-game winning streak end, one that included sweeps of the Ghouls, Witch Hats, and Vault 81. The Slog and the Dwellers are 1st-place teams in their leagues. Starlight is hot! Following them, Cambridge, Bunker Hill, and Sunshine Tidings are all below .500. The 75ers have a legitimate star in CF Esau Babz (.327/24/60/23 SB), but this team just cannot win consistently despite being heavily talented. The 75ers are 4th in runs scored (458) and tied for 9th in runs allowed (458), so statistics show they should be about 44-44 at worse. That would have them as a playoff contender. Instead, Bunker Hill is far back of being in that number at 40-48. Others having a good year on the team include RF Kasami Goto (.313/21/52), 2B Chris Tardy (.326/13/54), 3B Miko Miko (.340/11/550, and SP Junior Griff (8-3, 2.29). Trading Block Players of Note: Bunker Hill - 1B Zod Gaycey Starlight - C Justin Lower, 1B Brian DeLong Sunshine Tidings - SS Peter Pan Calvillo, LF Family Sam Partridge, SP Eugen Gym Minutemen League It may not be the tightest league for the current race, but the top three teams are within three games of each other. Jamaica Plain has taken over 1st from Goodneighbor thanks to the Hancocks' four-game losing streak. University Point rounds out teams over .500, with Atom at .500. Southie is a game under .500, but Quincy and Spectacle Island are quickly missing their chance in the playoff race. The Brews are in the race, but they will have to enter the trade rush to better their team enough to have any chance. As it stands, Southie is still the only CBO team without a single playoff appearance. That is likely to continue in 2318m, though there is promise in the future as long as the team is not blown up. RF Clean Blake Dean (.307/10/42) is an up-and-comer, and we feature a nice feat by SS Aaron Squire (.294/8/37) in the "Noteworthy News" section, who accomplished something for the first time in CBo history. Ace Jobe Christie (10-4, 3.40) has been OK. MR Elmo Tickle (8-1, 2.83) has been great mopping up wins. Trading Block Players of Note: Southie - SS Aaron Squire, LF Huge Hugh Testerman, RP Quintus Navale Spectacle Island - LF Bumpy Redfern University Point - SS Rock Rampage (!!!), CL Matt Hoernig, SP Clubhouse Treelover, Railroad League As mentioned, the Dwellers have the SCA's best record, a game back of the Shroud. Diamond City and FHE are two games back, with Egret the last team over .500. Glowing Sea is at .500 with the CBO's co-coldest team with Salem, Roxbury, 2-8 in their last 10, in 6th place. Oberland remains in 7th. The Radscorpions may have assumed the road to the playoffs was aligned, but then the 2318 season started. Now, scouts are really down on their offense, especially when start CF Enigma Montgomery (.288/9/41) is nowhere near his Nuka Hitter Award numbers of 2314 and 2315. 1B Rome Ennaday (.262/17/43) is the leader in homers. The pitching is great and keeping the team in it. Glowing Sea is 1st in both runs allowed (345) and Starters ERA (3.21) with all four starters--Alex Language (8-7, 3.19), Hot Lips Houlihan (5-10, 3.01), Cutter Redman (13-2, 2.93), and Black Red (8-8, 3.74)--with sub 4.00 ERAs. CL Gumbo Le Troutstain (7 SV, 3.38) has been OK for the 11th best Bullpen ERA (5.07). Trading Block Players of Note: Glowing Sea - CF Enigma Montgomery (!!!), SP Alex Language (!!!), SP Hot Lips Houlihan, C Yvuh Jet, RF Naga Arakaki Oberland - 1B Foo Fieterz, SP Tarzan Rogers, SS Gav Gidree, SP Sarthis Idren, CF Jurgen Windcaller Roxbury - 2B Odd Todd Walker (!!!), SS Brennan Colt-45, SP Freak Mouton, SP Saint O'Fender Vault 81 - C Phantom Vargas (!!!), SP Zack Million CBO Standings CBO Players of the Week July 8 - It's always a thrill for fans of the team and students of the game alike when a superstar in the making shows what he's got. Scott Eacott, the County Crossing Bloodbugs 24-year-old center fielder, put himself in the spotlight last week making him the clear-cut choice for North Charles Association Player of the Week honors. He ripped 12 hits in 23 at-bats, compiling a .522 average with 3 home runs and 12 RBIs. This year, Eacott is hitting .326, produced 64 RBIs and 13 home runs, scored 52 times and gotten on base at a .376 rate. When it came to hitting the baseball, Pockets Wrench was in a class by himself in the South Charles Association this past week. Nobody did it better. The outstanding right fielder for Vault 81 tagged opposing pitchers for a .545 average and was voted the Player of the Week Award. Included in his stats were 12 hits in 22 at-bats, 2 homers, 8 runs scored and 8 RBIs. This season, Wrench is hitting at a .340 pace with 16 home runs, 69 RBIs and has scored 62 times. July 15 - This week's Player of the Week was Floren Habern of the Malden Grognaks. He battered North Charles Association pitching for 10 hits in 22 at-bats, 4 home runs and 9 RBIs while hitting .455 and scoring 6 runs. For the season, Habern is batting .286 with 78 hits and 12 home runs. He has scored 45 times and batted in 49. It was announced today that Vault 81 third baseman Nathan Done has been acclaimed by the South Charles Association as the Player of the Week for his outstanding play last week. Done posted a .577 batting average as he collected 15 hits in 26 at-bats, 1 home run and 7 RBIs. Done is hitting .343 so far this season with 58 RBIs and 42 runs scored. He has 105 hits including 15 home runs, 28 walks and .396 OBP. CBO Noteworthy News July 2 - The County Crossing Bloodbugs and The Slog Ghouls have put the finishing touches on a deal that was weeks in the making. County Crossing will part with 22-year old minor league C Underoo Diaz and 23-year old minor league RHP Cruz Howell, while the Ghouls have dealt 25-year old minor league LF Name Brand Brown. "This one took a while to figure out," said County Crossing general manager Adan Cent. "We must have gone back to the drawing board five or six times over the past few weeks. I'm glad we finally got the deal done. I think it is a good one for both clubs." This year, Brown is batting .288 with 2 home runs and 11 RBIs. In 27 games he has scored 11 times. July 4 - Back-to-back five-hit games are rare. It was not rare for former #1 overall pick, Southie SS Aaron Squire. On July 3 and July 4, Squire registered five-hit games. Aaron Squire was sizzling at the plate. In a game played at Gwinnett Brewery Park, the Southie shortstop blistered the Oberland T-51s for 5 hits in 6 at-bats to pace his club to a good 4-3 victory. "Squire was too tough to get out," T-51s skipper Squirt Becker said in his postgame interview. "No matter what we threw him, he hit it. And he hit some good pitches, too." Aaron Squire singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, grounded out in the 7th, walked in the 9th, doubled in the 11th and singled in the 13th. Posting a .272 batting average to date, Squire has 8 home runs and 31 RBIs. Even as a kid, Aaron Squire said his coaches told him the key to hitting was making contact, and letting everything else flow from there. At Gwinnett Brewery Park, Squire showed how well he learned that lesson. The 31-year-old shortstop had 5 hits in 7 at-bats for the Southie Brews, helping his team knock off the Oberland T-51s by a score of 9-8. "They always said, just keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing, make contact and you never know what will happen," he said. "That's all I did." Aaron Squire singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a two-run single in the 5th, walked in the 7th, grounded out in the 8th, singled in the 10th, flied out in the 12th and singled in the 14th. Currently Squire has 8 home runs and a .284 batting average. July 7 - The news was not unexpected, but that didn't make it easier to accept for the Atom Cats: second baseman Lee Mayhew is out for the year. Mayhew suffered a broken kneecap on 07/04/2318. The team knew that the chances of seeing him return were slim to none. But today it was made official. This season, Mayhew is batting .303 with 81 hits, 12 home runs, 35 RBIs, .379 OBP and has scored 55 runs. July 8 - Southie has sold the rights to the Providence expansion franchise for the Castle Strength. The Brews announced that they had come to an agreement that the Castle Strength would be an affiliate of the providence franchise starting in 2318. However, Southie has also stated that it will relinquish the Castle Strength name after the 2318 season. In their stead, the Brews have purchased from the CBO the rights to the Conquerors name, which was once a team name in the Brandberton Boys League. The Conquerors will begin play in 2319 in Concord, New Hampshire. July 14 - The Diamond City franchise has also made a move in their minor league affiliation for the 2319 season. The Swatters announced that the Winchester Bashers of the GBRL would relocate to Amherst, Massachusetts, beginning in 2319. The CBO is expected to have a number of minor league shifts heading into the 2319 and 2320 seasons. CBO Rookie Watch There is a short list of rookies with a 2.2 or higher WAR in the 2318 season. Here they are: 3.2 - 2B Phil Brodie, FHE - .345/10/53/1 SB 2.9 - SP Casan Evans, Salem - 5-5, 4.08, 134.2 IP, 78 K 2.7 - 2B Good Breath Supply, Nahant - .293/14/48/7 SB 2.7 - 2B Derek Cureall, Goodneighbor - .271/10/32/32 SB 2.2 - LF DJ Shark, Lexington - .310/23/72/3 SB 2.2 - SP Hyand Lowe, Lexington - 9-7, 3.78, 128.2 IP, 99 K 2.2 - SP USA Prinwick, Southie - 2-6, 4.20, 90.0 IP, 49 K

BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL by Nat Wright-Kawolski BMU Regular Season Complete Another regular season is in the books, and the playoffs will begin in a couple of days. It will be a battle of survival -- and the final survivor will be the Boston Minor Union champions. The "haves" will be in their radiant glory, playing for the league title, while the "have-nots" will be at home, sitting by the hot stove until springtime. A playoff baseball game has a surreal atmosphere. Fans become one, roaring in unison at a great play and sharing the grief at blown opportunity. Victory and defeat play out in a rainbow of colors, sounds, smells and feelings. Boston Minor Union playoff baseball is a memorable experience. What is it like? Ask the 10-year-old sitting with his dad as he plucks a foul ball out of the air. Ask the veteran slugger who hits that walk-off home run. Ask the manager in the big game after coming from 10 games back to win the pennant. Ask the countless number of legends who have flourished or those greats who never won the big one. Or tomorrow, ask any of the rookies what it's like to play in one of the Association Championship showdowns: Kingsport Moon Monkeys (SAL) vs Melrose Eyebots (Qui) Mass Pike Radroaches (Slog) vs Foxborough Minutemen (Good) GBRL Regular Season Finishes, Brattteboro with Top Record Happy days are here for the playoff-bound teams. The Greater Boston Rookie League regular season is over and the playoffs will soon get under way to determine the league's best team for 2318. The clubs are planning their lineups and pitching rotations, going over scouting reports, trying to glean bits of information that might give them the edge. Nothing is seemingly left to chance. It takes a lot of talent and sometimes a little luck to bring home the Rookie Series trophy. Playoff baseball generates a reaction in every fan. To the fan of the perennial loser, it's a time to moan again about their team's misfortune. To the fan whose club defines success by the number of Rookie Series championship trophies lining their clubhouse walls, anything short of the ultimate victory is a disaster. This is playoff baseball. Baseball lovers can't help but be consumed by it in some way or another. There is nothing better than playoff baseball. These League Championship battles will unfold later today: Portland Pops (ST) vs Brattleboro Collectors (GS) Norwalk Pickpockets (JP) vs Sandwich Bay Snakes (Rox)

BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 25 July 2318 7/25/18: One for the Ages There are not many days like this! In one day, we had a no-hitter, which was not even the third-best performance on the day. No, all three performers of the day awards went to Fort Hagen hitters on a day the Silver Shroud spanked 2nd-place Starlight, 22-3. Let's look at the no-hitter, first. In a brilliant performance at Oberland Stadium, Roxbury pitcher Torcan Frawley entered an elite group by tossing the CBO's 25th no-hitter against the Oberland T-51s. In the effort, he fanned 7 and walked 2, leading the Rad Sox to victory, 2-0. "I was getting my off-speed stuff over so they couldn't sit on the fastball," Frawley said in the clubhouse after the game. "My guys made some nice plays behind me and cut off several hits, too." This year, Frawley has compiled a 7-7 mark with a 3.79 ERA in 21 starts. It is the first no-hitter since July 23, 2316, when Spectacle Island's Jason Costcaps tossed a no-hitter against Quincy. Frawley is the first Rad Sox to toss a no-hitter. Fort Hagen's offensive onslaught included a record-tying performance. C Red Jay Jones went 6 for 7 with three home runs, five runs, and seven RBI. Jones was the first NCA player since Gavin Deux-Gas in 2311 to have six hits in a 9-inning game. He also tied the team record for homers and runs scored. In addition to Jones' performance, Blaine Stabb did a number on the Killers in the 22-3 Fort Hagen victory -- and the number was 5. The Silver Shroud center fielder banged out 5 hits in 7 at-bats at Valentine Detective Agency Field to lead his club past the Starlight Killers. "I felt good in the batter's box," he said. "I had confidence in my swing and knew that it was there and that I could get the job done." Stabb doubled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, struck out in the 3rd, flied out in the 4th, doubled in the 6th, singled in the 7th and hit a GRAND SLAM off Dennis Heck in the 8th. This season, Stabb is hitting .314 with 13 home runs. Pad Yeo rounded out the trifecta, going 3 for 5 with a double, a home run, two walks, four runs scored, and three RBI. That would earn the CBO's Player of the Game in almost all cases. Here, Yeo was third.

July 2318
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 29 July 2318 100 Games In: Fort Hagen-Vault 81 Lead Associations We are at the All-Star Break, and we must say that this is one of the most balanced seasons in CBO history. At the current pace, Fort Hagen with the CBO's current top record is on pace to have the lowest winning percentage in CBO history by the regular season title winner. The previously low was in 2315 when Vault 81 finished 80-50 (.615). The Shroud are on pace to win 76 games. Speaking of the Dwellers, they currently hold the SCA's best record, one game back of the Shroud. Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization: Teams (Total Points, Tendency): 1) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (109.2, +) 2) Vault 81 Dwellers (107.4, +) 3) Starlight Killers (106.6, -) 4) Lexington Synths (103.6, ++) 5) The Slog Ghouls (100.0, ++) 6) Diamond City Swatters (98.2, -) 7) Salem Witch Hats (96.8, ++) 8) Egret Ninjas (96.7, ++) 9) Atom Cats (94.8, --) 10) FHE Yao Guai (94.4, +) 11) Southie Brews (93.7, ++) 12) Goodneighbor Hancocks (93.4, ++) 13) Cambridge Coursers (90.8, --) 14) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (90.4, --) 15) Glowing Sea Radscorpions (89.0, --) 16) Oberland T-51s (88.8, ++) 17) Roxbury Rad Sox (87.4, ++) 18) Easy Town Assaultrons (87.2, o) 19) Malden Grognaks (87.2, --) 20) Concord Radstags (85.4, --) 21) Bunker Hill 75ers (83.8, -) 22) University Point Deathclaws (83.2, +) 23) Nahant Celtics (82.4, --) 24) Spectacle Island Reapers (81.8, --) 25) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (77.0, o) 26) County Crossing Bloodbugs (75.0, o) 27) Quincy Granites (70.4, +) 28) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (63.4, -) NCA Current Seeds: 1. Fort Hagen 2. The Slog 3. Starlight (5-3 vs Lex) 4. Lexington (3-5 vs Star) 5. Concord 6. Salem (2-0 vs Cam) SCA Current Seeds: 1. Vault 81 2. Goodneighbor (5-3 vs JP) 3. Diamond City 4. FHE (2-0 vs JP) 5. Jamaica Plain (3-5 vs Good; WC - 0-2 vs FHE) 6. Southie (1-0 vs Egr) Brotherhood League The Slog has been consistent winners in the CBO's weakest league overall. At two games above .500 and in 2nd place, Salem is the only other BL team in the playoff conversation. Malden, Easy Town, and Nahant are all just below .500, while Nordhagen Beach and County Crossing are battling for the top pick in the 2318 draft. The Ghouls statistically may appear to be an anomaly, currently 4th in runs scored (524) and tied for 6th in runs allowed (487). However, when you consider that three IL teams have a better record than The Slog, then they look good versus the rest of the IL. Easy Town seems to be the only team with a realistic chance to catch the Ghouls in the last 30 games. The Assaultrons are 2ns in runs scored (556) and 1st in several offensive categories. Pitching has not been good, and the Trons gave up Lonely Gale, trading him to Vault 81. That means pitching is much weaker. If they can be a bit better, Easy Town could still win the BL or at least battle for a wildcard spot. Institute League The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud continue to lead both the IL and CBO, but both Starlight and Lexington are just two back at the break. Concord has struggled, going 2-8 in their last 10, dropping them six back, with Cambridge rounding out teams above .500 in 5th place. Bunker Hill cannot get the pitching it needs to catch up, despite making some moves, but they are still just five back of the wildcard. Sunshine Tidings is the only team in the CBO not in the 40-59 wins range. This is usually our ho-hum league, but 2318 is different, with any of the top three teams considered legitimate title contenders. The Synths have been the most banged up of the trio during the season, Once RF Hurr Lee Reyes returns from his knee injury, the Synths may be the team that takes over. The Silver Shroud have been the best team statistically, with the top-ranked scoring offense in the CBO (578 runs), 22 more than the second-best team, Easy Town. They are also 4th in the NCA in runs allowed (466) with the 3rd-best Starters ERA (4.05). While Lexington is improving with Reyes coming back, the Shroud made perhaps the biggest move in 2318, acquiring star C Red Jay Jones (.354/20/71) , featured for his record-tying performance in the Noteworthy News section below, from Sunshine Tidings on June 15. Since joining Fort Hagen, he has simply hit .406 with 14 home runs and 42 RBI in 30 games. He is likely t be the July Player of the Month. Starlight is the team we feel will lag a little behind, but they are still really good. The Killers are 3rd in runs scored (529) with the 8th-best runs allowed (498) mark.. At the very top of their rotation, Mercury Morris (12-6, 2.64) and Liam Kosta (10-4, 3.59). have been great, but the rest of the staff needs to do better. Minutemen League The IL may be exciting for its top-heavy league, but the best top-to-bottom race is in the ML. Goodneighbor and Jamaica Plain are knotted at 53-47 with Southie 1.5 back and Atom 2 back. University Point, which went 3-7 in their last 10, is now two games below .500, with Spectacle Island lingering three back of them. Quincy has faded away in 2318, dropping to 7th place and three back of the Reapers and Oberland for the SCA's worst record. The Granites would draft #4 if it started today. While the Red Rockets are supposed to be the best team, we are not sure if they can make any distance appear in the standings in the last 30 games. The Rockets have the SCA's top-scoring offense (552 runs) but are 10th in runs allowed (491) with the 14th (last in SCA) best Starters ERA (4.80). They just acquired SP Make Money (7-10, 3.68), who promptly lost his first start, despite a Quality Start (6 IP, 3 ER). Money is a move that may make a difference, but a second quality starter to join Money and Crash Cox (10-7, 4.55) in the playoffs rotation would help. Goodneighbor still seems to be in pretty good shape. They are not the most-talented team, but their talent is spread out well. Maybe they can try to grab a 2B to complete the lineup, but the Hancocks look to be a playoff team, especially with the acquisition of SP Emperry Alizm (9-7, 3.28) and the outstanding season by rookie CF Derek Cureall (.271/11/38/34 SB) at the top of the lineup. Atom may feel the loss of star 2B Lee Mayhew (.303/12/35) more than they want to, which gives us pause on keeping them actually in the league winner race. We expect Southie to fade and finish below .500. Railroad League The Dwellers lead this league by four games, matching the Ghouls for the CBO's largest league lead. Vault 81 has been consistently winning throughout July and got a boost from a 7-3 mark in their last 10, tied for the best in the CBO with Salem, the Shroud, and Oberland. Diamond City, FHE, and Egret are all above .500 and in the playoff race. Glowing Sea could get in the race at .500 and just 1.5 back of the last wildcard spot. Roxbury has struggled, The T-51s have been hot of late, pulling themselves out of th CBO/SCA gutter. Vault 81 is not exactly the same team of 2310-2316 when they won the RL four straight times (233-2316) and finished just a game back twice in that stretch. That all culminated in their first title in 2315. The Dwellers are great again, but a balance of power without domination permeates their team, currently 4th in runs scored (492) and 2nd in runs allowed (427). RF Pockets Wrench (.321/20/84) is in the Nuka Hitter Award discussion. SP Fang Storm (7-4, 2.09) has been a pleasant addition to the starting rotation. The acquisition of Lonely Gale (10-7, 4.59 overall, 4-1, 3.74 with Vault 81) has also boosted the championship chances for the Dwellers. Diamond City continues to break PAM's metrics. While pitching is not as dominant as last year, currently 3rd in runs allowed (438) with the 2nd-best Starters ERA (3.86), they are still playoff worthy. 40-year-old legendary SP Beachboy Nut (4-6, 3.91) has started to fade in his perhaps last season, but the CBO's all-time leader in wins (296) and WAR (130.97) is still giving the Swatters a better chance than most starters in the 4th slot. Any of the Swatters' starters can shut down an opponent in any given game. FHE is the third team with a realistic championship shot, though the Yao Guai have to find a way to improve either their offensive production (7th in scoring with 475 runs) or their pitching success (tied for 7th with 471 runs allowed). Their stats show a team that will finish around .500 if this continues. SPs Baker Dozen (14-8, 4.43) and Lane Phrasemaker (7-6, 4.56) have benefitted from good run production but need to hold other teams down more. CBO Standings CBO Players of the Week July 22 - This week's Player of the Week was Scott Eacott of the County Crossing Bloodbugs. He bombarded North Charles Association pitching for 10 hits in 22 at-bats, 4 home runs and 12 RBIs while hitting .455 and scoring 7 runs. For the season, Eacott is hitting at a .331 clip with 18 home runs, 78 RBIs and has scored 65 runs. He has 108 hits, 27 walks and a .383 on-base percentage. Speak softly and carry a big stick and you could win the South Charles Association Player of the Week Award just like Brass Well. He really dazzled on the diamond this week with a .481 average to take home the trophy. The FHE shortstop went 13-for-27, drove in 7 runs, scored 4 times and hit 2 home runs. Thus far in 2318, Well is hitting .275 with 10 home runs, 58 RBIs, 40 runs scored and has compiled a .312 OBP. July 29 - It was an extraordinary week for Red Jay Jones of the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud. First he goes on a hot hitting streak, batting .480, then he is voted the Player of the Week in the North Charles Association. Last week Jones went 12-for-25, racked up 5 home runs and 12 RBIs and scored 8 runs. It was a heck of a week for the Fort Hagen catcher. This season, Jones has delivered 116 hits in 328 at-bats for a .354 average with 20 home runs. He is getting on base at a .382 clip and his totals also include 71 RBIs and 52 runs scored. This year Jones has played in 79 games. When it came to hitting the baseball, Aaron Wright was in a class by himself in the South Charles Association this past week. Nobody did it better. The outstanding center fielder for Vault 81 tagged opposing pitchers for a .619 average and was voted the Player of the Week Award. Included in his stats were 13 hits in 21 at-bats, 0 homers, 2 runs scored and 1 RBIs. This season, Wright is batting .329 with 10 home runs. He has scored 34 runs and driven in 44. CBO Noteworthy News July 19 - In a move that has fans in both cities buzzing, the Southie Brews and the Oberland T-51s have agreed to a deal that will have 18-year old minor league LHP Owl Alford heading to Oberland in exchange for 25-year old SS Gav Gidree. Provided they pass a physical, the players should be with their respective teams in time for tomorrow's games. So far this year, Gidree has hit .265 with 7 home runs, 32 RBIs and 36 runs scored. July 20 - Fans in Bunker Hill woke up this morning to learn that their team had traded 18-year old minor league SS Sheridon O'Sullivan to the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys. In return, the 75ers will receive 24-year old RHP Jacques Of'Ten. This year, Of'Ten has compiled a 7-10 mark with a 3.23 ERA. July 21 - Exxie Summerset of the Vault 81 Dwellers nailed down his 200th career victory with a 5-1 win over the Roxbury Rad Sox today at Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury. Summerset, 34, fired 2 strikeouts over 3 innings of work. He gave up no runs, no walks and allowed 1 hit. "I feel great," Summerset said afterward. "I try not to get caught up in the moment. It's hard with so much press coverage these days, but I tune all that out when I go out there and pitch." Summerset has logged a 200-100 record in his career, appearing in 458 games with 1929 strikeouts and 834 walks in 2771.1 innings. He has been credited with no saves and has a 3.68 ERA. July 22 - Newspapers in Jamaica Plain and Quincy reported that the Red Rockets have reached a deal sending 21-year old CF Samdean Winchester to the Granites for 29-year old LHP Make Money, 23-year old minor league LF Wonderwave Moseley, and a 10th round draft pick. This year, Winchester is batting .199 with 3 home runs. So far this year, Money has compiled a 7-9 record with a 3.65 ERA. July 25 - No matter what the Starlight Killers threw at him, Red Jay Jones hit it. He easily handled Killers pitching, going 6 for 7 and helping the Silver Shroud triumph, 22-3, at Valentine Detective Agency Field. "The way I was swinging, I think I could have closed my eyes and hit the ball," he told BNN reporters in the postgame interview. Told of Jones's quip, Killers skipper Bryan Pingree said he "would take him up on that next time." Red Jay Jones hit a two-run home run off Phil Pearlman in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Phil Pearlman in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, hit a three-run home run off Closecall Jones in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, singled in the 8th and grounded out in the 9th. At the moment, Jones is batting .352 with 18 home runs and 66 RBIs. He has played in 76 games and scored 49 times. July 25 - History was made today at Third Rail Stadium -- College Luckyman won game #200 to seal his name in the league record books. The Quincy ace downed the Goodneighbor Hancocks 4-3 to gain entrance into the elite 200 Club. "I was wound up at first. I think I threw too hard," remarked Luckyman, "I had to calm down and go out there and pitch... not just throw. I think I got better as the game wore on. I started to think less about 200 wins and more about doing what I had to do." In his whole career, the 37-year-old Luckyman has won 200 and lost 136, piling up 1908 strikeouts and 1038 walks in 3039 innings with a 3.78 ERA. Opponents have hit .258 against him. July 25 - In a brilliant performance at Oberland Stadium, Roxbury pitcher Torcan Frawley entered an elite group by tossing a no-hitter against the Oberland T-51s. July 29 - It's All-Star Game time -- time for the superstars to shine! Every year Commonwealth Baseball Organization takes a break in the schedule to play the annual All-Star Game. It's a battle of the superstars -- the North Charles Association All-Stars versus the South Charles Association All-Stars. August 2318
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 1 August 2318 The August 1 Super Post CBO Top Performances Hitter - We already featured July 25, so you can probably guess which date has both the top performances of July and the season. On that date, Fort Hagen's Red Jay Jones had a historical day, going 6 for 7 with three home runs, five runs scored, and seven RBI in the Shroud's 22-3 victory over Starlight. The 143 game score was 16 points better than what had taken over the top season score, Jeremiah Stingwing's July 17 performance in a Malden win over the Ghouls. Stingwing set the Grognaks team record with nine RBI. Pitcher - You would think it would be the absolute top. but it is only tied for the highest pitching score of the season. On July 25, Torcan Frawley threw a no-hitter in Roxbury's 2-0 win over Oberland. In nine innings, Frawley pitched 108 pitches, walkign two and striking out seven. It was the Rad Sox's first no-hitter in team history. CBO Players of the Month NCA Hitter - Donnie Gray, the Easy Town first baseman, certainly made a name for himself this past month. He banged out a .402 batting average with 35 hits, 9 home runs, 26 RBIs and scored 19 times. That kind of hitting earned him the North Charles Association Batter of the Month honors for July. In this current campaign Gray is hitting at a .362 clip with 20 home runs and 69 RBIs. SCA Hitter - When Alex Bragman stepped up to the plate in July he did it with confidence, and today he was honored with the South Charles Association Batter of the Month award. The young Diamond City shortstop posted a .379 batting average with 6 home runs, 18 RBIs and scored 18 runs. Bragman also worked pitchers for 14 walks to post a .471 on-base percentage. Looking at his season stats, Bragman has compiled a .342 batting average and a .420 on-base percentage, while hitting 17 home runs and driving in 61 runs. NCA Pitcher - [Lee's note: WTFudge? Dude has not yet pitched for the Trons. He just got traded from Glowing Sea!] Which North Charles Association hurler dominated in the month of July? According to the voters who decide the North Charles Association Pitcher of the Month award, it was Cutter Redman of the Easy Town Assaultrons. He put together a record of 5-0 with an ERA of 1.83 in 6 starting assignments, [addition] all with Glowing Sea. In addition, he struck out 21 in 39.1 innings. This season, Redman has compiled a 15-2 mark, 2.61 ERA and made 24 starts. SCA Pitcher - July's top hurler was Ethan Pearce of Oberland. He shackled South Charles Association hitters the entire month and claimed the Pitcher of the Month award with a sparkling 5-0 mark. The 23-year-old Pearce added 14 strikeouts in 41.1 innings and 8 walks to his season record and compiled a 3.05 ERA. Other clubs hit .311 against him. This year, Pearce has gone 5-4 with an ERA of 5.00 and has 26 strikeouts in 63 innings. NCA Rookie - When it came to hitting the baseball, Donnie Gray had few peers in the North Charles Association last month. The gifted first baseman for Easy Town tagged opposing pitchers for a .402 average and was voted the Rookie of the Month for July. Included in his stats were 35 hits, 9 homers, 19 runs scored and 26 RBIs. This year, Gray has socked 114 hits in 315 at-bats for a .362 average with 20 home runs. He is getting on base at a .436 pace and his totals also include 69 RBIs and 64 runs scored. SCA Rookie - Oberland starter Ethan Pearce chalked up 5 wins on his way to winning July's South Charles Association Rookie of the Month title. He struck out 14 in 41.1 innings as he compiled an ERA of 3.05 over the past month. He had a 5-0 mark in 6 starts and held opponents to a .311 batting average. This season, Pearce has fanned 26 in 63 innings and collected a 5-4 record with a 5.00 ERA. NEBL Analysis There are only six more games in the 2318 regular season. All four divisions are still up for grabs. Here are the teams still in the race: Maine Division - The Revere Beach Shoremen have a one-game lead on the Danvers Sonics. The rest of the division is out with the Lowell Sentry Bots in third at 8 games back. Vershire Division - There is also a two-team race. The Manchester Mammoths are tied for the NEBL's best record at 61-41. The Worcester Cannons are two games back. Mass Division - All seven teams are technically alive, but the Bradberton Tycoons are six back, meaning there is no realistic return for them. The three most likely to win are the three 51-51 teams: the Providence Warlocks, Warwick Mirelurks, and Hartford Melonheads. Trailing them each by an increasing number of games starting at 1 are the Fall River Rippers, New Britain Oceanics, and Pawtucket Pips. Connri Division - There are three teams still alive with one currently up three on the other two. The Danbury Gazelles lead both the Bridgeport Gulchers and New Haven Champions. NEBL Players of the Month PL Hitter - Graygarden Action Boys fans may just have witnessed a star player blossoming before their eyes in July. Burtie Belmore put up a remarkable month at the age of 24 and has been named the Patriot League Batter of the Month. For the month, Belmore hit .303 with 6 home runs, 24 RBIs and 19 runs scored. For the season, Belmore has hit .299 with 13 home runs and 43 RBIs. He has played in 58 games and scored 33 times. YL Hitter - Bradberton Tycoons fans believe they've got a talented young star in Puny Merchant. He did nothing to dissuade that notion in July, as he hit .309 with 4 home runs, 17 RBIs and 22 runs scored. The end result was the left fielder being named the Yankee League Batter of the Month. Merchant is currently batting .295 with 10 home runs, 46 runs scored and 52 RBIs. His OBP is .384. PL Pitcher - This month the Patriot League spotlight fell on pitcher Rev Atkins of the Lowell Sentry Bots. What a July he had! A fine 3-2 won-lost record, 0.78 ERA, 6 starts, 34.2 innings pitched and 21 strikeouts -- good enough to get him the PL Pitcher of the Month. In 22 starts this season, Atkins has registered a 11-9 record and a 2.62 ERA. YL Pitcher - Last month's cream of the crop on the mound was Alt Errigo of the Fall River Rippers. He captured the Yankee League Pitcher of the Month award for his outstanding performance in July. Errigo started 6 games, threw 33 innings, yielded 29 hits and logged a 5-0 record. He put down 29 batters on strikes, walked 8 and compiled a 2.73 ERA. Opposing teams batted .227 against him. This season, Errigo has a 9-6 mark in 23 starts with a 3.89 ERA. He has given up 127 hits in 125 innings, struck out 89 and issued 38 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .263 batting average against him. MML Analysis The Massachusetts Minor League also has just six games remaining with all four divisions either already or very close to being wrapped up. In the Boggs Division, the Haverhill Grooms have a five-game lead over the Nashua Sams. In the Murtagh Division, the Woburn Bobbleheads have the smalest lead of three games over the Marlborough Firemen. The Neponset Park Criticals have a six-game lead over the Marshfield Savages. In the Yastrzemski Division, thhe Dedham Bombers have already clinched and have a four-game lead on the MML's top record. They lead the Somerville Place Shamrocks by 12 games. MML Players of the Month LL Hitter - Even though he is a newcomer to Massachusetts Minor League, Auno Sulkunen put up some good numbers in July and earned the LL Batter of the Month award. He was one of Nashua's offensive leaders with a .284 average in 27 games. He also racked up 8 home runs, 20 RBIs, and 17 runs scored. This year, Sulkunen has batted at a .282 pace with 49 hits, 11 home runs, 33 RBIs and scored 30 times. SL Hitter - For a rookie just breaking in, King O'Spades certainly put together a successful month. It was good enough to win the SL Batter of the Month award for July. The 22-year-old first baseman for the Dedham Bombers hit .355 with 7 home runs, 12 RBIs and 11 runs scored. To date O'Spades has chalked up a .284 average with 8 home runs, driven in 15 runs and scored 19 times. LL Pitcher - In July Haverhill starter, Lukas Koretnaar really put the strong arm on the other Legends League teams and hauled in the Pitcher of the Month trophy. He did it with an impressive 7 wins and no losses. In 7 starts and 41 innings of work, Koretnaar limited opposing batters to 33 base hits and a .219 batting average. He fanned 32, issued 18 walks and had a 1.10 ERA. In 16 starts this season, Koretnaar has recorded a 9-3 record and a 1.89 ERA. SL Pitcher - There's no doubt that Bombers starter Gussy Ridel earned his Stars League Pitcher of the Month award. He left absolutely no room for doubt as he mowed his way through the opposition in July. During the month Ridel was 5-1 with a 2.60 ERA. He made 6 starts, tossed 45 innings and had 38 strikeouts. Ridel has made 21 starts so far this year and put up a 12-3 won-lost record with a 2.87 ERA. In 141.1 innings he has allowed 126 hits, walked 34 and struck out 120. BMU Playoffs Sometimes the winner is the one who got the lucky bounces and the lucky calls, and sometimes the winner is just the one who played better. It was the latter case in 2318, as the Mass Pike Radroaches topped the Kingsport Moon Monkeys 9-4 tonight at Wayne Gorski Field at MPI Park to win the Boston Minor Series. It was the 2nd title in franchise history. "When you play for championships, you have to play better than the team in the other dugout. We did that in this series, and all year. Now we're the best team in baseball," said Mass Pike right fielder Gnaw Simic, who was named series MVP. The Radroaches took the series 3-1. The new titleholders completed the regular season with a first-place finish in the Massachusetts Association Glowing Sea Division and a 48-40 record. Mass Pike manager Jason Vaultick grinned and nodded when asked to comment on Simic's words. "Gnaw said it best -- we played better than the other team," the skipper said. Hometown officials announced they were already planning a "grand celebration" for the winners in the days to come. BMU Players of the Month CA Hitter - Candy Yegammai made his presence known as one of the best young stars in the Commonwealth Association this past month. The Melrose Eyebots third baseman shined through the month of July and has won the Batter of the Month award. The 18-year-old hit .358 with 3 home runs, 7 RBIs and 11 runs scored. MA Hitter - Not known for his offensive prowess, Metro Rhamkette set the league afire in July and took home the Massachusetts Association Batter of the Month award. The Rockland first baseman posted a steady .440 batting average, 3 home runs, 11 RBIs and 6 runs. CA Pitcher - The Commonwealth Association named the winner of the Pitcher of the Month Award. It went to Fogarty O'Leary of Sandy Coves Freaks, who impressed the voters with a glittering 3-0 record in July. The Sandy Coves star hurler made 4 starts, allowed 11 hits in 23 innings, struck out 28 and had a 0.78 ERA. Since his debut, O'Leary has marked up 6 wins and 1 loss and fashioned an ERA of 1.89. He has fanned 49 batters while pitching 62 innings. MA Pitcher - There's something about a young rookie winning the Massachusetts Association Pitcher of the Month trophy that sends shock waves through the league. Such is the case with Voya Hoffmann, a 19-year-old starter for the West Roxbury Mole Rats. In July, he topped off the month with a 3-0 mark and 1.83 ERA in 3 starts, tossed 19.2 innings, fanned 17 and held opposing teams to a .208 average. GBRL Playoffs The Brattleboro Collectors stunned the Norwalk Pickpockets by sweeping the Rookie Series 3-0. The Collectors dumped them 4-0 today at Jay Grounds in the deciding game of the series. This was the 1st time Brattleboro has been the league champions. During the regular season the powerful Collectors chalked up a 56-32 mark and finished in first place in the North League Northwest Division. GBRL Players of the Month NL Hitter - At only 20 years of age, Everton Elwell could very well have many more months like this last one during his career. That would be great news for fans of the Sanctuary Hills Zetans, as July was one to remember for the first baseman and he has captured the North League Batter of the Month award. On the month he hit .453 with 7 home runs, 23 RBIs and 11 runs scored. Looking at his career stats, Elwell is batting .292 and has totaled 35 home runs. SL Hitter - Blowhard Keats may be much younger than other hitters in the South League, but he performed like a seasoned veteran in July to win the Batter of the Month award. The 21-year-old Watertown first baseman hit .536 with 2 home runs, 11 RBIs and 16 runs scored. NL Pitcher - July's #1 hurler was Pennies Ingham of Switchboard. He gunned down North League hitters the whole month and claimed the Pitcher of the Month award. The Gun Fu star piled up 3 wins and no losses to take the honor. The 17-year-old Ingham added 22 strikeouts in 23 innings and 4 walks to his season record and compiled a 1.17 ERA. Other clubs hit .190 against him. In his career, Ingham has gone 9-3 with an ERA of 3.84, picking up 99 strikeouts in 98.1 innings pitched. SL Pitcher - The Roadside Pines Cosmos owe Digger Jung a lot for his performance this past month. One of the league's most dominant starters in July, Jung tore up the opposition with a fine 3-0 mark on his way to the South League Pitcher of the Month award. "When you're pitching this well," analyzed Jung, "it's a lot easier to come to the park. I don't judge my performance by the stats, I judge it -- the team judges it -- by the score of the game. I could say I'm tossing electric stuff right now and that would go over big. But if I toss that same stuff -- exact same pitch selection and location -- and they bang me around tomorrow, I was awful. That's the way baseball is." It was Jung who did the banging in July as he tossed up 18 strikeouts in 23.1 innings, holding opponents to a .220 average and posting a 2.31 ERA. In his career, Jung has chalked up 7 wins and 6 losses and compiled a 5.43 ERA.

Season Pass Association
---------------------------------------------------------- Nuka News Update Reporting on the NWL and APL by Evan Guy 1 August 2318 Last Month Begins with Grape and Orange as Leaders Neither division in the Nuka World League is yet determined, but the Grape Painted Ghouls and Orange Tourists are both their divisions' leaders as we enter the final month of the season. Grape leads Victory by four games, with both Wild and Quantum six back. The Painted Ghouls are led by their pitching, which ranks 2nd in runs allowed (350). Kory DiLeva (11-2, 2.79) has been the most successful pitcher this season. In the South Bradberton Division, the Tourists lead Dark by two games and Cherry by three games. Quartz is mostly out of the race, 11 games back, and in possession of the league's worst record. Orange is the offensive juggernaut, ranking 1st in every offensive category but stolen bases and base running. Multiple players stand out, but the 2314 Nuka King Award winner, RF Doman Northsea (.388/11/58), may be the best. Doman Northsea battered Nuka World League pitchers all July and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award. "I've been around Nuka World League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 33-year-old Northsea told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month." In 21 games, Northsea hit .446 with 2 home runs, 21 RBIs and scored 18 runs. A look at his current stats shows Northsea with a .388 average, 11 home runs, 58 RBIs and 51 runs scored. He has played in 64 games. The #1 pitcher this past month in the Nuka World League was Kory DiLeva of the Grape Painted Ghouls. He worked the hitters over real good, finishing July with a superb 5-0 record and a 1.10 ERA. The Painted Ghouls star made 5 starts and surrendered 34 hits in 41 innings. He struck out 27 and walked 15. Thus far this season, DiLeva has worked 116.1 innings with 69 strikeouts en route to a 11-2 record and a 2.79 ERA. The standout Nuka World League rookie in July was Wild's right fielder Bitsy Blume. Last month, he played in 24 games and hit .384 with 3 doubles, no triples, and 6 home runs. Blume also scored 18 times and drove in 25 runs. Blume is hitting .384 in 2318 with 54 RBIs and 14 home runs. APL With 12 games left per team, multiple teams can still claim the North and South Divisions. In the North Division, the Nuka Jolly Elves lead the Red Rocket Radrats by two games and the Nuka Bottling Plant Pack by four games. In the South, the Nuka Plan Electrics have the advantage by two games over the Dunmore Ferris Wheels and four games over the Grandchester Flying Ants. Jonathan Wynn has a lot going for him. The Nuka Plant third baseman just broke into the majors this year and now the Amusement Park League has just picked him as its top hitter for July. In 18 games last month this outstanding rookie batted .382 with 9 home runs, 22 RBIs and 17 runs scored. In the current season, Wynn has put up a .351 batting average with 67 hits, 17 home runs, 42 runs batted in and scored 39 runs. Adolphus Murtry of the Nuka Bottling Plant Pack strung a bunch of high quality starts together in July to earn the Amusement Park League Pitcher of the Month trophy. For the month he finished with a superlative 3 wins and 1 loss and a 2.40 ERA. The Nuka Bottling Plant star started 4 games, pitched 30 innings and struck out 18. Checking out his stats for the season, Murtry has registered 5 wins and 3 losses in 11 starts, posted a 3.05 ERA, and struck out 50 batters in 76.2 innings. ---------------------------------------------------------- Vim! View News of the Vim! League and Its Affiliates by Jimmy Gresham 1 August 2318 Echo Lake Hottest Team, Fog Division Tied A month ago, Dalton Farm seemed to be running away with the Fog Division. After a 10-14 month, the same month in which Echo Lake 18-6, closing an eight-game gap. The Harbormen, 9-1 in their last 10, are now tied with the Fog Crawlers for 1st place. Far Harbor still leads in the Harbor Division, now 10 up on Grand Hotel. Both Acadia and Cranberry Island have been eliminated, trailing by 20 with 18 to go. Vim! League Players of the Month Hitter - Castor Puzzlemaker of the Echo Lake Harbormen spoke softly and carried a big stick in July and was justifiably proclaimed the Vim! League Batter of the Month. The Harbormen left fielder rapped out a .432 batting average with 32 hits in 74 at-bats, drove in 26, scored 22 runs and chalked up a .494 on-base percentage. So far this year in 61 games, Puzzlemaker is hitting .373 with 19 home runs, 58 RBIs and 55 runs scored. Pitcher - Far Harbor's Putt Putt Ashburn hated to see July end. It was one of the single greatest months the reliever has posted, and the 25-year-old reliever did so well that he garnered enough votes for the Vim! League Pitcher of the Month trophy. Ashburn held the opposition to a .095 batting average in 13 relief appearances. He worked 12.2 innings, collected 9 saves, sat down 10 on strikes and posted a 1-0 record and a 0.00 ERA. This year, Ashburn has made 32 relief appearances and saved 15. His record is 5-3 with 27 strikeouts in 32 innings and a 3.94 ERA. Rookie - The top-ranked Vim! League rookie in July was Echo Lake's left fielder Castor Puzzlemaker. Last month, he played in 19 games and hit .432 with 7 doubles, 1 triple, and 11 home runs. Puzzlemaker also scored 22 times and drove in 26 runs. This season, Puzzlemaker has hit at a .373 clip with 58 RBIs, 19 home runs and 55 runs scored. He has played in 61 games. MDIL The Small Bertha Division is tight, while there is some distance in the Old Longfellow Division. In the Bertha, the Brooke's Head Lights are the leaders, two over the Rock Point Barnacles and three over the Cliff's Edge Actors. In the Longfellow, the Rayburn Point Patcheyes have a five-game lead over both the Kitteredge Rad Rabbits and Haddock Cove Engineers. MDIL Players of the Month Hitter - It's perhaps an award he'll win many more times through his career, as at age 21 CV Masterson has a lot of baseball ahead of him. But for now the young Kitteredge Rad Rabbits star can enjoy the numbers he put up in July, which have garnered him the nod as the Mount Desert Island League Batter of the Month. His breakout month featured a .397 average with 7 home runs, 16 RBIs and 13 runs scored. Masterson is currently hitting at a .362 pace with 10 home runs, 24 RBIs and has scored 29 times. Pitcher - It was a sensational July for Sal Jakkelsen as he mystified, mesmerized and terrorized opposing batters to capture the Mount Desert Island League Pitcher of the Month trophy. Jakkelsen locked down a 3-0 mark in 4 starts last month, striking out 19 while walking 7 in 28.1 innings and posting a 3.81 ERA. In 12 starts this season, Jakkelsen has recorded 4 wins and absorbed 3 losses. He has pitched 75.2 innings, allowed 85 hits, struck out 41 and has a 6.30 ERA.

August 2318
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 7 August 2318 CBO Draft Pool The CBO announced its allotment of 3456 draft-eligible players entering the 2318 Draft. The pool includes 46 players that the CBO's scouting group, the OSA, considers to be potential superstars. Here are five that we think may go highest: SP Arcade Anderson, Northeastern - 25-3 in three seasons with the Huskies, Anderson is one of the CCBL's all-time greats. He is the all-time leader in ERA (1.31), shutouts (9), H/9 (7.25), WHIP (0.93), Opp. AVG (.219), Opp, OBP (.248), Opp. SLG (.292), Opp. OPS (.540), and WAR (16.65). We cannot imagine a player more worthy of #1 overall based on his dominance at the college level. Scouts think that he is equally good throughout his four pitches, with great movement on his pitches to keep hitters guessing. He is expected to be the ace of the lineup, though he is likely to start at the bottom of the rotation before working himself up. SP Rhubarb Coombs*, Gloucester Dog Trainers - The CYL standout is a knuckle curve pitcher who frustrates hitters at his level. Scouts think it will translate to being a highly successful pitcher in the CBO in one of the strongest pitching classes ever. In his CYL career, Coombs is 33-11 with a 2.29 ERA and 607 Ks in 424.1 innings pitched, or about 1.43 Ks/inning (12.87 K/9). He is not Hayes, featured below, but he did finish second all-time in WAR in the CYL, surpassing former #1 Paul Stains. SP Eagle Eye Hayes*, Marblehead Mess - Like Anderson featured above, Hayes is the all-time great pitcher out of his league, the CYL. Hayes went 46-4 with a 1.80 ERA in his four years with the Mess. Hayes is the all-time leader om ERA (1.80), Win% (.920), and WAR (26.13). 1B Bear Jones, Tufts - The national champion 1B who won the Top Collegiate Hitter Award and was MVP of the Elite Eight, Final Four, and College Series rounds, Jones is a beast. Expected to reach .333/30/100 levels at the CBO, Jones will be a centerpiece to whichever team takes him. Despite only playing two years with the Jumbos, Jones leaves tied for 19th all-time with 57 home runs. LF Steven Shin*, Boston College Prep Professors - Shin never exploded in his power. but scouts see Shin as a future big league slugger. They like his even, consistent swing that makes him a threat to either put the ball over the fence or off it. He also has the potential to develop the eye that makes him a great OBP hitter in addition to his SLG. NEBL New England Baseball League just concluded the regular season -- and the playoffs -- the real season -- are slated to begin soon. The playoffs separate the men from the boys -- there are no weak sisters in the playoffs. Only the best clubs qualify. You have to play your best to survive. Fans become one, roaring in unison at a great play and sharing the grief at blown opportunity. Victory and defeat play out in a rainbow of colors, sounds, smells and feelings. New England Baseball League playoff baseball is a memorable experience. Or tomorrow, ask any of the rookies what it's like to play in one of the League Championship Series showdowns: Manchester Mammoths (SI) vs Danvers Sonics (ET) Warwick Mirelurks (Star) vs Danbury Gazelles (Sou) MML Close the book on the Massachusetts Minor League regular season. For most of the ballclubs, it's all over except for the crying. Now attention turns to the playoffs. It will be the best against the best to determine the Massachusetts Minor Series champion for 2318. And it all kicks off soon. The all-important second season is about to begin. The Massachusetts Minor League playoffs start today! Only a handful of teams remain in the running for the ultimate prize -- the Massachusetts Minor Series championship. It's playoff time -- a time of glory and victory awaits one of the teams. The team that rises to each eventful occasion -- the team that makes all the right plays at the right time. Today is the start of the League Championship Series and here are the opening games: Woburn Bobbleheads (SI) vs Haverhill Grooms (GS) Neponset Park Criticals (V81) vs Dedham Bombers (Egr)

I don't know if the Institute is still up to its cloning shenanigans, but, when I read today's headline in the BNN news segment, I had pause.
You see, I remember it well. June 1, 2296. The remains of Nordhagen Beach reliever, Kevin Containment, were found, the victim of a mirelurk attack on a small sand dune in the Atlantic. It was big news. So, when I read today's story, my first thought was, "Wait. What?" Here's the story from the BMU awards revelations for the day: "Manager Kevin Containment was speaking before a Foxborough fan luncheon when word came down that he'd been awarded the Massachusetts Association Manager of the Year. Containment's face turned to surprise as the club's owner made the hasty announcement." He's alive! Or, maybe, he is dead but the Institute placed a new Kevin Containment into the Commonwealth. I read that play before. Something is rotten in the state of Denmark.

That's exactly it! I did not consider that he could become coach. Future player deaths may mean wiping out all of their bio-coach stats. Baseball IQ and Leadership seem likely coach makers.

BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 19 August 2318 IL Sports CBO's Top Three Teams With just two weeks remaining in the 2318 regular season, the CBO's top three records all reside in the Institute League. Fort Hagen and Starlight are tied at 69-48 for the best record, while Lexington is a game back at 68-49. Vault 81 possesses the SCA's top record at 67-50. County Crossing is currently the CBO's worst team with a 44-73 record and join Nordhagen Beach and Sunshine Tidings as the only teams to have been eliminated from playoff contention. Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization: Teams (Total Points, Tendency): 1) Starlight Killers (115.2, +) 2) Lexington Synths (105.6, ++) 3) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (104.2, -) 4) FHE Yao Guai (103.5, ++) 5) Diamond City Swatters (103.1, o) 6) Concord Radstags (101.4, ++) 7) Oberland T-51s (101.3, ++) 8) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (100.8, -) 9) Vault 81 Dwellers (100.1, -) 10) The Slog Ghouls (99.5, --) 11) Malden Grognaks (96.3, --) 12) Egret Ninjas (95.3, ++) 13) Southie Brews (91.8, ++) 14) Cambridge Coursers (91.3, -) 15) Roxbury Rad Sox (90.3, --) 16) Atom Cats (88.8, --) 17) Easy Town Assaultrons (88.3, --) 18) Goodneighbor Hancocks (87.7, +) 19) Spectacle Island Reapers (84.5, +) 20) Glowing Sea Radscorpions (83.7, -) 21) Bunker Hill 75ers (82.5, +) 22) Nahant Celtics (79.7, --) 23) Quincy Granites (77.9, +) 24) Salem Witch Hats (73.6, -) 25) University Point Deathclaws (72.9, -) 26) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (71.7, +) 27) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (68.3, o) 28) County Crossing Bloodbugs (58.7, -) NCA Current Seeds: 1. Fort Hagen (5-2 vs Star) 2. The Slog 3. Starlight 4. Lexington 5. Concord 6T. Cambridge (2-2 vs Mal) 6T. Malden (2-2 vs Cam) SCA Current Seeds: 1. Vault 81 2. Jamaica Plain 3. Diamond City 4. FHE 5. Southie (5-2 vs Atom) 6. Atom CBO Standings Pennant Chase With 19 games to go, we will spend time in each league discussing the pennant race in terms of winning the league and the playoff push. Here is the current state of teams in the race: Brotherhood League The Slog leads the BL, but they will need to win a lot more on the road in their final 13 games then they did so far this season: 26-30 on the road. The Ghouls have three-game trips to Jamaica Plain, Easy Town, and Spectacle Island, before ending with two two-game series at home versus the Assaultrons and Nahant. Malden is the only team realistically in striking distance, and they are currently tied for the 6th spot. The Grognaks are also one of the statistical anomaly teams. In fact, by PAM's estimates for wins, Malden is a CBO-worse nine games below their expected wins total. Malden also has the CBO's best run differential (110), showing how bad they have been in tight games (9-17 in one-run games and 3-5 in extra inning games). The Grognaks may have the most favorable end schedule despite also having a 12-game road trip, like The Slog. They play at University Point, at Salem, at the Celtics, and then host the Witch Hats and Trons to finish the season. Easy Town, Nahant, and Salem are all alive, but they need to win games to close the gap. The Assaultrons are just two back of the wildcard, but they have a tough slate to end it. They are at Goodneighbor, hos the Ghouls, visit County Crossing, and then travel to The Slog and Malden. Outlook: 1. The Slog (#2) 2. Malden (#5) 3. Easy Town 4. Salem 5. Nahant 6. Nordhagen Beach 7. County Crossing Institute League This one is fun! There is a three-team race for seeds 1, 3, and 4. Concord and Cambridge are each trying to maintain their current standing as a wildcard team. Bunker Hill and Sunshine Tidings are out of the race. Fort Hagen is officially in 1st thanks to leading the season series record against Starlight, 5-2, meaning they have one more series to play. The Shroud finished the season 2-8 vs 3rd place Lexington, so they want to finish above, not tied, with the Synths in the standings. The Shroud has a road trip to Diamond City, host Quincy, and the Killers in three-game sets, and then have two-game series against Nahant and at Sunshine Tidings to finish the year. Starlight has a road set in their next nine, going to Roxbury, Cambridge, andf then Fort Hagen, before finishing with two series at home against the Coursers and Concord. The Synths have to love their schedule to finish the season, with only two winning teams remaining. That starts with a three-game set at FHE before hosting Bunker Hill and Cambridge. Lexington then finishes with trips at the 75ers and party Boys. Outlook 1. Lexington (#1) 2. Starlight (#3) 3. Fort Hagen (#4) 4. Concord (#6) 5. Cambridge 6. Bunker Hill 7. Sunshine Tidings Minutemen League The IL may get all the attention, but the ML has a tight league also, even with Goodneighbor beginning to fade late in the season. Jamaica Plain has a two-game edge over both Southie and Atom, with the Hancocks four back. Spectacle Island, University Point, and Quincy are out of the race. For the Red Rockets, it is not that difficult of a path. The Rockets get the Ghouls at home, travel to Southie, host University Point, and then get two game sets against the Brews and at Oberland. Southie may best control their destiny since they play the other two top teams in the ML. The Brews host the Celtics, Rockets, and Atom in three-game sets before going on the road for the final four games against Jamaica Plain and the Deathclaws. While The Red Rockets do not have an easy path and Southie controls their own destiny, the Cats actually have the easiest remaining schedule. Atom hosts the Bloodbugs, visits the Reapers and Brews, hosts Spectacle Island, and then visits Goodneighbor. The Hancocks do have a chance to get back in this race. They host Easy Town, visit the Claws, visit Quincy, host University Point, and then host the Cats. Winning all of those series probably puts them in 1st place even with a four-game gap with 13 to play. Outlook: 1. Atom (#2) 2. Jamaica Plain (#5) 3. Goodneighbor (#6) 4. Southie 5. University Point 6. Quincy 7. Spectacle Island Railroad League No team in the RL is out of the race, with Glowing Sea at 57-60 in 7th place. That puts the Radscorpions just four games shy of a wildcard spot. They could still get in, so let's breakdown the full league in the last 13. First off, Vault 81 is in 1st by two games over Diamond City. The Swatters are trailed by a game by FHE, and then Egret is seven back and both Roxbury and Oberland are nine back. Vault 81 only has two road games remaining on the season, and they are favored in every remaining game. The Dwellers host Cambridge for three, as well as the Scorpions and Chemists. They then travel to Glowing Sea and then host the Yao Guai. The Swatters start by hosting the Shroud, and then have home sets against the T-51s and Radscorpions, travel to Oberland, and then host the Rad Sox. FHE gets Lexington at home, travel to Nahant, host the Ninjas, get two at home against the Granites, and then visit Vault 81. Egret plays Concord, faces the Sox at Roxbury, visits the Yao Guai, hosts Roxbury, and then hosts the Radscorpions. The Sox, T-51s, and Scorpions all need to win a lot to close the gap. While Glowing Sea has a hard schedule, they are the ones who most control their own destiny. They host Bunker Hill, visit the Dwellers, go to Diamond City, host Vault 81, and then host the Ninjas. Winning those series will help them climb the standings. Based on the 2318 version of Glowing Sea, though, well, the outlook is not good. Outlook 1. Vault 81 (#1) 2. FHE (#3) 3. Diamond City (#4) 4. Egret 5. Roxbury 6. Oberland 7. Glowing Sea CBO Players of the Week August 5 - Two Shoes Rivera demonstrated his potential to be a star in the game last week and today he took home the North Charles Association Player of the Week Award. The Concord first baseman wreaked havoc on opposing pitchers last week, pounding them for a .471 average (8-for-17) with 5 home runs and 9 RBIs on his way to claiming the honor. For the year, Rivera is batting .317 with 18 home runs. It was an extraordinary week for Biddy Juhan of the Oberland T-51s. First he goes on a hot hitting streak, batting .583, then he is voted the Player of the Week in the South Charles Association. Last week Juhan went 7-for-12, racked up 2 home runs and 6 RBIs and scored 7 runs. It was a heck of a week for the Oberland left fielder. This season, Juhan is hitting .302 with 7 home runs. August 12 - His hard work and hustle paid off this week. The hard-working and hard-playing Jacob Tarberry was rewarded with the North Charles Association Player of the Week honors. The scrappy Malden Grognaks third baseman hit .458 while collecting 11 hits in 24 at-bats, 6 home runs and 16 RBIs. So far on the season, Tarberry is hitting .377 with 24 home runs, 92 RBIs and 82 runs scored. He has 144 hits and played in 107 games. It's always a thrill for fans of the team and students of the game alike when a superstar in the making shows what he's got. Joey Bell, the Roxbury Rad Sox 24-year-old right fielder, put himself in the spotlight last week making him the clear-cut choice for South Charles Association Player of the Week honors. He ripped 10 hits in 21 at-bats, compiling a .476 average with 3 home runs and 9 RBIs. This season, Bell is swinging the bat at a .264 pace. He has hit 18 home runs and scored 66 times, while driving in 57. His on-base percentage is .336 and he has played in 108 games. July 19 - It was an extraordinary week for Packs Ton Kling of the Lexington Synths. First he goes on a hot hitting streak, batting .500, then he is voted the Player of the Week in the North Charles Association. Last week Kling went 12-for-24, racked up 4 home runs and 9 RBIs and scored 6 runs. It was a heck of a week for the Lexington center fielder. For the year, Kling has hit at a .274 clip with 70 RBIs, 26 home runs and 74 runs scored. It's always a thrill for fans of the team and students of the game alike when a superstar in the making shows what he's got. Earthwind More, the Southie Brews 23-year-old first baseman, put himself in the spotlight last week making him the clear-cut choice for South Charles Association Player of the Week honors. He ripped 12 hits in 32 at-bats, compiling a .375 average with 3 home runs and 8 RBIs. For the season, More is hitting at a .320 clip with 3 home runs, 12 RBIs and has scored 13 runs. He has 24 hits, 4 walks and a .354 on-base percentage. CBO Noteworthy News July 30 - Beantown Brewery Stadium was the place to be for baseball fans tonight, as the best CBO players gathered for the annual all-star game. On the field, the North Charles Association downed the South Charles Association by a score of 3-2. Off the field, game MVP Phantom Vargas said he thinks everyone had a good night. "You looked into the stands and it seemed like everyone was having a fantastic time," said the 30-year-old, who went 2-for-2 in the game. "A game like this is good for the sport." Lifetime Vargas has played in 1044 games, batted .292 with 181 home runs and 1006 base hits. July 8 - It's official. Stu Gains of the Vault 81 Dwellers hit his 400th home run tonight. The Vault 81 Dwellers took on the Oberland T-51s and downed them 4-3, but the big story of the night was the milestone home run for Gains. He rounded the bases with a smile and politely stepped on home plate and walked back to the dugout. "400 is a big number, and I am thankful for the ability to get to this milestone. But it's all about the team today, my accomplishments are just one piece to the Dwellers puzzle." The Dwellers left fielder went 1-for-3 with 1 home run and 1 RBI as the Vault 81 Dwellers topped the Oberland T-51s. Lifetime Gains has played in 1758 games with a .294 batting average. Among his 1846 hits are 343 doubles, 14 triples and 400 home runs. He has also scored 1177 runs and driven in 1252 runs. August 16 - Baktu DaWell said it's time for him to concentrate on "being a father and a husband" after this baseball season. At age 36, the native of North Adams, Massachusetts has announced he will retire from professional baseball. "I want to thank all my teammates, the fans, and the The Slog Ghouls organization, but this is it for me," he said. "I've got a lovely family at home I can't wait to spend more time with." Career-to-date DaWell has rung up a .311 average, played in 1654 games and collected 243 doubles, 26 triples and 360 home runs. August 19 - Young prospects and unproven veterans seek to anchor positions in today's expanded 40-man roster, in place until the playoffs commence. CBO Injuries CBO Team vs Team

September 2318
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 1 September 2318 The September 1 Super Post CBO Top Performers Hitter - After the thrilling performances of July, August was a let down for offensive prowess. The top performance of August came at the bat of Huge Hugh Testerman of the Southie Brews in a 12-5 dismantling of Jamaica Plain on August 24. Testerman was 3 for 4 in the contest with a triple, two home runs, a walk, three runs, and six RBI. He earned a game score of 98, 45 points behind the season's best, Red Jay Jones. Pitcher - While August was disappointing for hitters, it did produce the season high game score, 93, outpacinf Torcan Frawley's July no-hitter. On August 12, Diamond City's Macho Lopez stole the show in a 9-0 win at Quincy. Lopez pitched a complete-game one-hitter, walking two and striking out 10 in the process. It was Lopez's second one-hitter of the season. He also accomplished that mark on July 13 against Malden. CBO Players of the Month NCA Hitter - Esau Babz, the Bunker Hill center fielder, certainly made a name for himself this past month. He banged out a .357 batting average with 40 hits, 13 home runs, 34 RBIs and scored 29 times. That kind of hitting earned him the North Charles Association Batter of the Month honors for August. This season in 125 games, Babz has hit at a .331 clip with 164 hits, 41 home runs, 108 RBIs and 111 runs scored. SCA Hitter - Pockets Wrench battered South Charles Association pitchers all August and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award. "I've been around Commonwealth Baseball Organization long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 27-year-old Wrench told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month." In 27 games, Wrench hit .358 with 10 home runs, 33 RBIs and scored 19 runs. In the 2318 season Wrench is hitting .330 with 30 home runs. NCA Pitcher - Mercury Morris of the Starlight Killers outdistanced his peers on the mound this month. He fashioned a fine 5-1 won-lost mark and 2.05 ERA in 7 starts to get the North Charles Association Pitcher of the Month honors. Morris had a very impressive August, finishing with 33 strikeouts in 48.1 innings and holding opposing hitters to a .232 average. This year, Morris has a 17-7 record and a 2.51 ERA. SCA Pitcher - In August Oberland starter, Sarthis Idren really put the strong arm on the other South Charles Association teams and hauled in the Pitcher of the Month trophy. He did it with an impressive 5 wins and 2 losses. In 8 starts and 58.2 innings of work, Idren limited opposing batters to 44 base hits and a .210 batting average. He fanned 38, issued 16 walks and had a 1.69 ERA. Thus far this season, Idren has tossed 222.1 innings in 33 starts, fanned 162 batters, walked 82 and put up a 3.04 ERA with 13 wins and 11 losses. NCA Rookie - Ian Tankengep's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young The Slog left fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month. In August he was voted the Rookie of the Month. During the month he hit .373 with 7 doubles, 2 triples and 6 home runs. Tankengep also scored 19 times and drove in 27 runs. This season, Tankengep is hitting at a .287 pace with 15 home runs, 75 RBIs and has scored 71 times. SCA Rookie - The Rookie of the Month Award has been selected and the South Charles Association honor went to Oberland hurler, Emanuel King. For his excellent outings in August he has been named the league's top rookie. During the month in 7 starts, King was superb with a 3.40 ERA and 4 wins and 1 loss. In 45 innings he struck out 18 and gave up 45 hits and 7 walks. On his stats sheet for the year King shows a 4-1 record, 7 starts, 45 innings, 18 strikeouts and a 3.40 ERA. NEBL Playoffs With a 8-4 win over the Danvers Sonics at The Metalbox at Danvers today, the Danbury Gazelles wrapped up their 1st title in team history. The Gazelles left little doubt who was the better team. Celebrating a banner year, "team" was the word of the day in the victorious clubhouse after the game. "Hitting, pitching, fielding; those are all things you need to win, but most importantly you need a team, a team that works together toward the same collective goal," said Danbury manager Cujo Jones. "Our players felt that way all year, and they played that way. When one guy had an off day, 24 others stepped up their game and filled the void." A jovial mood filled the air as Danbury celebrated into the night. The city's mayor said parade plans were underway and a "huge celebration" would be in order. "I hope they have a big celebration," Danvers manager Calvin Kuhl said. "They deserved to win this series and they deserve to celebrate it." MML Playoffs It was a hard-fought battle for both teams to make it this far. But as the saying goes, "to the victors go the spoils." For the victorious Dedham Bombers, that meant the Massachusetts Minor League Massachusetts Minor Series trophy. The Bombers took a 8-2 victory over the Woburn Bobbleheads at The Outpost, winning their 1st championship after taking the series 3-1. "We've got grit," said Bombers third baseman Cyclone Bolt, who was named MVP of the series. "We know how to win when we have to." The new titleholders completed the regular season with a first-place finish in the Stars League Carl Yastrzemski Division and a 73-35 record. MML Awards LL Hitter - When it came to hitting the baseball, Mutty Foster had few peers in the Legends League this year. The gifted center fielder for Marlborough tagged opposing pitchers for a .280 average and was voted the Hitter of the Year Award for 2318. Included in his season stats were 106 hits, 28 doubles, 3 triples, 12 home runs, 52 runs scored and 40 RBIs. He received 26 first place votes out of a possible 28. "That's my basic approach." The top hitter put up a .278 batting average this year, as well as a .333 on-base percentage. At the age of 22, many players are still trying to find their way in Greater Boston Rookie League. Coombs has not only found his way, he's already established himself as one of the game's brightest stars, today being named the winner of the North League Future Player of the Year Award. "I didn't expect to hit .377 this year, that's for sure," the right fielder said. The Marblehead Grenades star also put up a .483 on-base percentage this year, with 107 hits, 11 doubles, 3 triples, 24 home runs, 64 RBIs and 64 runs scored. At the age of 21, the Stamford right fielder has been named the winner of the South League Future Player of the Year Award. He had a .361 batting average and a .470 on-base percentage this year. In 83 games he piled up 103 hits, 18 doubles, 3 triples, 17 home runs, 48 RBIs and 57 runs scored. "I'm blown away by the season I was able to put together," he said. "I'm looking forward to trying to do it all again next year." He received 19 first place votes out of a possible 28. The Lincoln starter had everything working for him this past season as he breezed to a 2-4 record. In his award-winning season Tarheel crafted a 3.19 ERA in 107.1 innings with 119 strikeouts and 57 walks. Opposing batters hit .225 against him in his 21 starts. For his brilliant performance this season he was named the South League Young Gun Award winner today. He started 15 games, running up a 4-3 record and a 2.40 ERA. Roach held opponents to a .250 average while striking out 70, walking 18 and allowing 67 hits in 71.1 innings of work. He received 28 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. But he certainly seems to be a quick study, as the Portland Pops reliever was better than all others this year and has captured the 2318 North League Clutch Arm Award. "I hope to win this a few more times before all is said and done in my career," the Northampton, Massachusetts native said. For the season, Arizz had 1 save in 24 relief appearances, which totaled 24. He fanned 22 betters, while walking 11 and put up a record of 3-1 to go with his 1.88 ERA. He received 14 first place votes out of a possible 28. His teammates and manager said he had a poised demeanor about him that was typical of someone much older and more experienced. His poise has paid off, as the 20-year-old turned in a sparkling season and has been named the winner of the South League Clutch Arm Award for 2318. The Quincy, Massachusetts native won the award with 6 saves in 27 relief appearances, 28 strikeouts in 26.2 innings and a record of 1-3 to go with his 2.36 ERA. He received 23 first place votes out of a possible 28. September 2318
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 3 September 2318 "Best Last Day Ever" The 2318 regular season has come to an end, and boy, was it a doozy! Heading onto the last day, the following was up for grabs: * The #1 seed in both the NCA and SCA * The Minutemen League crown * The Railroad League crown * 5 of the 12 playoff clinches ( 2 spots in the NCA and 3 spots in the SCA) * Spots 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6 in the NCA * Spots 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6 in the SCA Only the second seed--The Slog in the NCA and Southie(!!!) in the SCA--was sure for each association. Southie. They overcame all odds, not only clinching their first playoff berth, but bursting into the Minutemen League title after Jamaica Plain faded as of late. On September 1, that meant a lot of games mattered. Here are some scores that helped to determine playoff seeding: Starlight 5, Concord 4 - The Killers clinched the IL with the win and left the Radstags in position where they needed help to get in the playoffs. Lexington 3, Nordhagen Beach 0 - Needing a win for a chance at the 3rd seed, the Synths' Hyand Lowe pitched a shutout on closing day. Sunshine Tidings 1, Fort Hagen 0 - The Silver Shroud could have been the #1 seed if things had gone their way. Instead, they are the #4 seed. Cambridge 4, Bunker Hill 3 - The Coursers' four-run 6th propelled them to the #5 seed in the playoffs. Easy Town 9, Malden 7 - The Assaultrons had already been eliminated but played spoiler, sending the Grognaks into a tie with Concord for the #6 seed. Diamond City 10, Roxbury 3 - The Swatters needed a win or a Vault 81 loss, and they got just that, clinching the #1 seed in a game they led throughout. The rad Sox were eliminated with the loss. Vault 81 7, FHE 3 - The Dwellers were already the #3 seed thanks to the Swatters win. The Yao Guai needed the win to clinch the #4 seed. Egret 5, Glowing Sea 3 - The Ninjas jumped into the #4 seed by defeating the Radscorpions on closing day. Glowing Sea had already been eliminated. Jamaica Plain 3, Oberland 2 - The Red Rockets needed a win and a Goodneighbor loss to guarantee a spot in the playoffs. They edged the T-51s, which played much better in the second half of the season. Atom 13, Goodneighbor 11 (10 inn.) - The Cats were already eliminated but played spoiler, scoring two in the 10th to topple the Hancocks playoff dreams. Goodneighbor was eliminated with the loss and Jamaica Plain edged out FHE for the #5 seed. After the results of September 1, there was still one more game to play. We were under the assumption that there are no tiebreakers, but the CBO had one: Malden vs Concord for the 6th spot as a sort of play-in game. Well, as you can see below, we know the final result: Concord 10, Malden 6. Callahan Barton knocked in 4 runs to help Concord beat Malden, 10-6. Barton produced 1 single and 1 home run. With this game in the books, Concord is 67-64, Malden 66-65. With Concord leading 1-0 in the top of the first, Barton hit a slider from Ahsoka Tano for a 3-run home run. It was his 19th home run of the season and put the Radstags ahead, 4-0. "I just tried to make good contact," said Barton. Final CBO Standings CBO Playoff Tree CBO Players of the Week August 26 - Dude Lebowski has the tools to stick in this league for many years. The 24-year-old left fielder of the Lexington Synths had a hot bat in the North Charles Association over the past seven days and won the Player of the Week honors. Lebowski batted .500 with 11 hits in 22 at-bats, 3 home runs and 7 RBIs. This season, Lebowski is batting .316 with 144 hits, 15 home runs, 82 RBIs, 42 walks, .375 OBP and has scored 66 runs. He has played in 118 games. What's in a number? In baseball, just about everything. The numbers that Spectacle Island's Dynamo Bynes put up last week were the envy of the league, as Bynes came away with South Charles Association Player of the Week honors. He belted out 11 hits in 23 at-bats, 4 home runs and 6 RBIs last week as he posted his .478 batting average. This season, Bynes is batting at a .332 clip with 30 home runs and 70 RBIs. CBO Noteworthy News August 20 - Reed Botti said he's made enough money in professional baseball, so it's time to move on. "I did pretty well for myself, my bank account isn't hurting, maybe I'll become a manager or a team owner or something so I can make even more," he said, announcing this season would be his last. "I'm 38 years old, so I've still got some time to make something of the rest of my life." Taking the hill 612 times in his career, Botti has compiled an ERA of 4.46. He has tossed 1395 innings with 756 strikeouts and 522 free passes. Opponents have hit .273 against him. He has a record of 62-68. August 30 - His The Slog Ghouls teammates were not terribly surprised when Silvam Fourteen announced his retirement today. In a low-key affair, Fourteen explained his rationale. "My aches and pains have caught up with me. They don't seem to go away like they used to when I was a kid," he said. "I'm spending more and more time in the trainer's room and less and less time preparing for my next game. I've come to a realization that I've done what I can in this game and spending more time playing baseball is just stealing from my future self." When asked, the team manager noted "Silvam has always been an honest man and when he says he's done, well, he's done." Fourteen is hitting at a .264 rate over his 1660-game career. Lifetime he has 312 doubles, 13 triples and 217 home runs with 851 RBIs and 657 runs scored. August 31 - Beachboy Nut entered the record books today as he collected win number 300 at The Great Green Jewel. "Wow! This is a select group of pitchers. I am honored and thrilled to be in it," Nut said after the game. "I never dreamed of winning this many games." In his historic outing he went 7.1 innings and gave up 2 runs on 4 hits. Nut also had 4 strikeouts and no walks as his Diamond City Swatters topped the Roxbury Rad Sox 7-2. During his career, Nut's won-lost record is 300 wins and 166 losses with a 3.16 ERA. He has limited other teams to a .247 average. CBO Records This feels as though it is getting harder to populate, though some of those career records are falling or just being added on to (Cocoa, Nut). We'll throw out a couple of Wow! career records. Single-season records broken or tied goes first: Triples - 17 - Finnan Hunt, Easy Town; Previous record: 16 - Jonathan Abern, 2299. Career records (unbreakable?): Wins - 300 - Beachboy Nut, Diamond City; Next closest - 260 - Derek Green Home runs - 670 - Barker Cocoa, University Point; Next closest - 555 - Babs Rooth

Not surprised the Radscorpions missed out, but this season had a strong amount of parity. No 80 win teams and just one team with a win percentage below .400. The league is in a good position under the new commish!

Good observation! I mentioned in an earlier update that the CBO was on pace to have its lowest winning percentage by the top team and forgot to follow up on that. Starlight's .592 winning percentage represents the lowest by the top record. I need to add that to the playoff preview since this is the most wide-open playoffs that the CBO will have seen.

CBO Playoffs 2318
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 4 September 2318 CBO Playoffs 2318 CBO Playoff Tree CBO Playoffs Overview In a season with the lowest winning percentage, .592, by the team with the best record, Starlight, we think these playoffs may be unpredictable. Therefore, we are going to change up our early preview and look at the playoffs overall before discussing individual matchups below. One thing is for sure: neither of last season's Sole Survivor Series participants, the champs Easy Town and the runners-up Quincy, will be there again this season. First, let's return to PAM's predictions for the playoffs and where they are actually: NCA 1. Malden (no playoffs) 2. Lexington (3rd seed) 3. The Slog (2nd seed) 4. Easy Town (no playoffs) 5. Fort Hagen (4th seed) 6. Concord (6th seed) The #1 seed, the Killers were picked to go 61-69 and the #5 seed, Cambridge was picked to go 63-67. SCA 1. Jamaica Plain (5th seed) 2. Vault 81 (3rd seed) 3. Atom (no playoffs) 4. Glowing Sea (no playoffs) 5. FHE (6th seed) 6. Egret (4th seed) The top two seeds were picked to miss the playoffs. PAM has not Diamond City despite its top pitching staff; they were predicted to finish 64-66. Southie, the #2 seed, was picked to go 61-69. While BNN does put out out Power Rankings, those tend to look at trends in winning versus win potential. We want to look at teams in terms of their perceived abilities so that we have a better idea of what teams are capable of. We want to begin by stating that a #1 vs #1 Sole Survivor Series would be a surprise. Playoff Power Rankings Below are the Power Rankings. Teams are listed by seeds 1-6 of the NCA, followed by seeds 1-6 of the SCA. The number following their team location is their overall rank. Starlight - 7th Offense: 3, Pitching: 7, Defense: 12 Best Hitter: LF DJ Shark - .279/29/91 Best Pitcher: Mercury Morris 17-7, 2.51 Overview: The Killers are a good team and have home field advantage throughout the playoffs as long as they advance. While they have a well-balanced team, Starlight is also the sloppiest team on defense, opening themselves to those runaway innings that can lose a game and a series. We have them as the 7th most likely team to win the championship in 2318. The Slog - 5th Offense: 4, Pitching: 9, Defense: 3 Best Hitter: LF Ian Tankengep - .287/15/76 Best Pitcher: Buzzcut McDonald 17-9, 3.68 Overview: The Ghouls have balance throughout their lineup but no one that is anywhere near the Nuka Hitter Award. Their pitching is solid, but only McDonald is a pitcher in the rotation that can take over a game. The Slog has a chance to win it all, but we put them behind four other teams. Lexington - 4th Offense: 11, Pitching: 1, Defense: 6 Best Hitter: LF Dude Lebowski - .314/15/82 Best Pitcher: Hyand Lowe 15-9, 3.54 Overview: We keep waiting for the Synths offense to match expectations. Lebowski had a great season, but most of the others were mediocre overall. Packs Ton Kling did get 28 homers. Pitching has been good and will be the reason why we think Lexington has a good chance to win this. They just need the offense to produce a lot more than it did in the regular season. Fort Hagen - 1st Offense: 1, Pitching: 8, Defense: 8 Best Hitter: C Red Jay Jones - .355/26/91 Best Pitcher: Nuke Laloosh 16-7, 3.43 Overview: This is our pre-playoffs pick to win the Sole Survivor Series in 2318. Two greats, Jones and Laloosh, lead the offense and pitching, respectively. Fort Hagen can hit throughout the lineup, including 8th hitter, 2B Lobster Schintzius (.284/10/64) who would win the CBO award for best 8th hitter in the lineup if there were such an award. The one pause to this team is that the starting rotation could allow games to get out of control from time to time. They will need to be much more efficient. Cambridge - 9th Offense: 10, Pitching: 5, Defense: 5 Best Hitter: LF Bubbler Mayhem - .332/26/89 Best Pitcher: Scooter Yaghmour 12-13, 4.70 Overview: This pitching rotation was scary just two seasons ago, including Yaghmour unanimously winning the Vim! Pitcher Award. This season's rotation is not that, though there are plenty of pitchers who can hold teams down. When the offense is on, the Coursers win. Unfortunately for them, we cannot see that consistency beyond a chance to win the Wildcard Round series against the Shroud, which as you saw above, we do not see happening. Concord - 11th Offense: 5, Pitching: 10, Defense: 11 Best Hitter: RF Jannar Arbor - .304/28/93 Best Pitcher: Kevin Gauzeman 14-12, 4.33 Overview: The Radstags had to win a play-in game over a more-talented Malden team, which probably gave Lexington a large sigh of relief for its Wildcard Round matchup. Concord is a decent team but are also in the right place by talent and productivity as the 6th seed. We do not expect them to advance. Diamond City - 2nd Offense: 9, Pitching: 2, Defense: 1 Best Hitter: SS Alex Bragman - .327/21/83 Best Pitcher: Macho Lopez 15-12, 3.06 Overview: Still our favorite rotation, which will include CBO legend Beachboy Nut (300 career wins!, 8-8, 3.71 this season) as the 3rd starter. The lineup is not great but decent throughout, maybe just a notch below the Shroud. We think that the Swatters are the best bet in their association and have a chance to join the Silver Shroud in the Sole Survivor Series, the same matchup as the 2299 and 2300 series. Southie - 12th Offense: 6, Pitching: 12, Defense: 9 Best Hitter: 3B Mikita Sato - .296/25/73 Best Pitcher: Jobe Christie 15-5, 3.33 Overview: As the only first-time-ever playoff team, Southie may already be at a disadvantage. Talent-wise, they rank last. Statistically, they . . . also rank last. They are then a statistical anomaly with a run differential of +3 at 10 games over .500. When it comes down to it, though, we expect the Brews to be out in the Association Semifinals Round. Vault 81 - 3rd Offense: 7, Pitching: 3, Defense: 10 Best Hitter: RF Pockets Wrench - .331/31/121 Best Pitcher: Zack Million 13-7, 3.04 Overview: For most of the season, the Dwellers were the 2nd-best team behind Fort Hagen. Despite falling short of being the #1 seed, Vault 81 is still worthy of that designation and will be the greatest threat to the Swatters. Vault 81 can hit and the pitching, though aging, is still one of the better rotations in baseball, especially since adding Lonely Gale (13-10, 4.65) during the season. Egret - 8th Offense: 8, Pitching: 4, Defense: 7 Best Hitter: RF Deez Phantom - .331/20/86 Best Pitcher: Mike Searocker 14-6, 2.77 Overview: The Ninjas are back in the playoffs for the first time since 2311. This season's team was sneaky good, almost surprising teams as they consistently won ball games. Neither of the squads stands out but both are well above average in productivity. We pick them as the 8th best with bonus points for their statistical consistency but knocked down by lack of playoff experience. Second-year pitcher Searocker makes every Game 1 winnable. Jamaica Plain - 6th Offense: 2, Pitching: 11, Defense: 4 Best Hitter: 3B Tre' Morgueman - .287/21/95 Best Pitcher: Make Money 12-11, 3.28 Overview: The Red Rockets had the Minutemen League won before getting cold at the end of the season, finishing 4-6 while Southie surged past them by going 7-3. The trade for Money was in pursuit of winning this all, and that does give the Rockets a chance. We have them as the 6th ranked team, somewhat because they have to win a lot of road games to win it all. They were OK on the road (33-32) but it is still a tough ask. Egret will be tough to get past at first, so it will be a tough road for Jamaica Plain. FHE - 10th Offense: 12, Pitching: 6, Defense: 2 Best Hitter: 2B Phil Brodie - .334/16/79 Best Pitcher: Baker Dozen 17-11, 4.27 Overview: Just like Concord in the NCA, the Yao Guai are right where they belong seeding-wise. We do not expect them to advance, but this is a decent team that is deserving of being in the playoffs. Our biggest concern is that the starting rotation gave up lots of runs. Having to depend on the bullpen in the playoffs will become taxing quickly. They could win a series, but it would not be likely to move beyond that, well, of course, except if Southie is shell-shocked. Wildcard Previews NCA: #6 Concord Radstags (67-64) vs #3 Lexington Synths (75-55) Season Series: Lexington 6, Concord 4 Prediction: We think that the Synths are one of the best teams in the CBO for a reason. We see them nailing the Stags in two games. Lex 2, Con 0 NCA: #5 Cambridge Coursers (68-62) vs #4 Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (75-55) Season Series: Fort Hagen 6, Cambridge 4 Prediction: The Silver Shroud are our pick as the 2318 champions, so we think they will get through this one easily with Laloosh dominating and then the offense overwhelming the Coursers pitching. FtH 2, Cam 0 SCA #6 FHE Yao Guai (68-62) vs #3 Vault 81 Dwellers (73-57) Season Series: Vault 81 9, FHE 1 Prediction: The Dwellers dominated the season series, and we expect that to continue. We expect Vault 81 to be in the SCA Championship Series, so of course we are picking them here. V81 2, FHE 0 SCA: #5 Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (68-62) vs #4 Egret Ninjas (68-62) Season Series: Egret 2, Jamaica Plain 2 Prediction: This is our one series we expect to go three games. In the end, we think that Jamaica Plain will have just a little bit more and make it past the Ninjas. JP 2, Egr 1 BNN's Path to the Championship Predictions Here are our picks in every round: Wildcard Fort Hagen over Cambridge Lexington over Concord Jamaica Plain over Egret Vault 81 over FHE Association Semifinals Fort Hagen over Starlight Lexington over The Slog Diamond City over Jamaica Plain Vault 81 over Southie Association Championship Series Fort Hagen over Lexington Diamond City over Vault 81 Sole Survivor Series Fort Hagen over Diamond City
