Had a feeling it might have been a record or close to! As a neutral it's exciting and I'm not even going to try and guess who wins. Very surprising start too with three 2-0s. Would have been expected in a more lopsided year but of course baseball tends to ignore the script!

CBO Playoffs: Association Semifinals Previews

Association Semifinals Overview

The league winners are now in the mix, hosting the first two of the five game series against Wildcard Round winners. Both #1 seeds should be favored in their series, but both #3 seeds have better records than the #2 seeds based on rules of all league winners getting the top two seeds.

Now that our pick of Fort Hagen winning the Sole Survivor Series is no more, here is the Playoffs Power Rankings order of the eight remaining teams.

Power Rankings
1. Diamond City
2. Vault 81
3. Lexington
4. The Slog
5. Jamaica Plain
6. Starlight
7. Cambridge
8. Southie

NCA: #5 Cambridge Coursers (68-62) vs #1 Starlight Killers (77-53)

Season Series: Starlight 5, Cambridge 5

Overview: In 10 games, both teams won five each, so this is not a series for the #1 seed to cruise through. Starlight's successes came against the other side of the bracket, so this may be their bigger challenge for matchups. The Coursers won their first series in team history and now hope to push past another round.

Prediction: While there are even parts to this matchup, the battle of the aces, Mercury Morris (17-7, 2.51) is in the Vim! Pitcher Award, while the Coursers' Scooter Yaghmour (12-13, 4.70) is nowhere near his former award-winning self. Killers in five. Starlight 3, Cambridge 2

NCA: #3 Lexington Synths (75-55) vs #2 The Slog Ghouls (70-60)

Season Series: Lexington 4, The Slog 0

Overview: The Synths owned the season series and now look to match that success in the playoffs. Lexington did not hit their offensive potential, scoring 15 runs over three games against Concord. Still, with the pitching success, five runs per game could lead Lexington to a championship. The Slog benefited from a weak Brotherhood League, but have not shown the championship push just yet. Both hitting and pitching performances have been OK but not great. Pitching better than Lexington may be the key, but Buzzcut McDonald (17-9, 3.68) is the only Ghouls pitcher in the same league performance-wise as the Synths' rotation.

Prediction: We think the Synths are a championship-caliber team that has underperformed in 2318. While they do not have the home field advantage in this series, they do have more talent and success. We think this is the shortest of all semifinals series. Lexington 3, The Slog 0

SCA: #5 Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (68-62) vs #1 Diamond Swatters (74-56)

Season Series: Diamond City 3, Jamaica Plain 1

Overview: This is the battle of PAM's pick for the #1 seed (JP) and the actual #1 seed (DC). The Swatters are powered by the best pitching rotation in the playoffs, with all three, including 40-year-old Beachboy Nut, with ERAs below 3.00. Hitting is decent but nothing to brag about, except maybe Alex Bragman (.327/21/83/a8 SB). The Red Rockets are a worthy opponent with the offense needed to win a championship. While the overall average was not great, the Rockets were good at getting on base and getting bunches of extra-base hits. Peppering balls off the Green Monster may help the Rockets.

Prediction: Great pitching versus great offense. In the end, the Swatters offense will have more success against the Jamaica Plain pitching than vice versa. This is a good series, but we do not expect it to reach the maximum number of games. Diamond City 3, Jamaica Plain 1

SCA: #3 Vault 81 Dwellers (73-57) vs #2 Southie Brews (70-60)

Season Series: Southie 2, Vault 81 2

Overview: Welcome to the playoffs, Southie! Now, see what you can do against a powerful team in Vault 81. The Brews produced a low of runs (653) but also gave up a lot of runs (650), which makes their 70-60 record surprising. The Dwellers are legitimately the second-best team in the SCA. While Vault 81's pitchers are beginning to fade, Zack Million (13-7, 3.04) is the most-dominant pitcher in this series. One vs one, Vault 81 has the pitching advantage each game. Offense favors the Brews overall, but RF Pockets Wrench (.331/31/121) is the likely Nuka Hitter Award winner in 2318.

Prediction: We are not expecting Southie to enter this series and just freeze. When they play ball, they have shown to be pretty good throughout the lineup and rotation. However, we think that the Dwellers have a serious chance to be the champions. Vault 81 3, Southie 1

Whitetiger was 2-4 with a double.

CBO Association Championship Series Previews

We are now down to four teams, and we must say that the two expansion teams are the biggest surprises, even though one is a #2 seed. Cambridge and Southie both took care of business versus tough opponents to get to their first Championship Series in team history. It could be an interesting Sole Survivor Series should both make it.

Their opponents, Lexington in the NCA and Diamond City in the SCA, are teams use to winnings. The Synths are seeking their second Sole Survivor Series appearance, with their first coming in 2315. The Swatters have been there twice (2299 and 2300) and won them both.

NCA: #5 Cambridge Coursers (68-62) vs #3 Lexington Synths (75-55)

Season Series: Lexington 5, Cambridge 5

Overview: Lexington has to be pleased to not only battle through Concord and The Slog, but they also missed both Fort Hagen and Starlight in the playoffs. They get a hot Coursers team that also played well against them in the regular season.

Looking at the lineups in Game 1, it appears that Cambridge has the more-talented team. Like always, we are expecting the Lexington to blow up at any point, but now we can see that OSA scouts give less credence to the Synths lineup than we do. Cambridge's LF Bubbler Mayhem (.332/26/89) is the highest-rated player from either side, and he had the numbers to support that high rating, including earning the Series MVP against the Killers.

The Synths' pitching gets the top nod here, leading the NCA and CBO in runs allowed (494), NCA in Starters ERA (3.62), and NCA and CBO in Bullpen ERA (3.10). Ace Arron Noluh (10-12, 3.73) had the worst ERA of the three playoff starters. Cambridge was 3rd in runs allowed (587), 6th in Starers ERA (4.37), and 2nd in Bullpen ERA (4.13), but, though good, far behind the Synths.

Prediction: The pitching is where we think this series is determined. While the season series was knotted, 5-5, we think the Synths take an early advantage and always hold the Coursers at length. Lexington 4, Cambridge 2

SCA: #2 Southie Brews (70-60) vs #1 Diamond City Swatters (74-56)

Season Series: Diamond City 3, Southie 1

Overview: Every game in the regular season was close. The teams split in Diamond City with the Brews winning 3-2 and then the Swatters winning 2-0. In Southie, Diamond City took both, 7-5 and 5-3. Beachboy Nut dominated his two starts, allowing three earned run in 17.0 innings to go 2-0. His first start at home resulted in a complete-game, one-hit shutout.

Diamond City has thrived on its pitching prowess, and that also showed itself by holding Jamaica Plain to four runs over three games. All three starters pitched well, with Nut giving up the most runs, 2.

Southie is a team that depends on its offense to get it ahead in high-scoring affairs. In the series against the Dwellers, wins resulted in 11, 9, and 8 runs. On the two occasions where offense was not successful, Games 3 and 4, scoring just one total run in two games, Southie was blown out.

Prediction: While the Brews' story is an interesting one, and many are pulling for them as an underdog on the season, a team that came out of nowehere, we think that dream dies here. The Swatters are loaded in a way that PAM was not able to see, but is obvious in just how well they pitch throughout the staff. We think this one ends early. Diamond City 4, Southie 1

CBO Association Championship Series Results

NCA: Cambridge Coursers vs Lexington Synths

Game 1: Lexington 5, Cambridge 1

Association Championship Series Game 1 Victory for Noluh and Lexington

The Lexington Synths started the Association Championship Series in style, downing the visiting Cambridge Coursers at Super Duper Mart Stadium by a score of 5-1 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Synths right-hander Aaron Noluh threw 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball.

Noluh was in the zone, shutting down Cambridge hitters over 7.1 innings. Noluh, who threw 88 pitches, allowed 1 run on 4 hits. He also tallied 6 punchouts.

"Aaron did a heck of a job," said Lexington manager Jon Castro.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Super Duper Mart Stadium in Lexington.

Game 2: Cambridge 4, Lexington 2

Mayhem Blasts Synths, Coursers Take Game 2, 4-2

The Cambridge Coursers defeated the Lexington Synths, 4-2, in Game 2 of the Association Championship Series. Making an impact was left fielder Bubbler Mayhem, who went 2-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. The win moves Cambridge into a 1-1 tie with Lexington in the series.

The game was at a stalemate until catcher Clownie Blammo came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Lexington pitcher Hunter Kim, he hit a full count fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Cambridge on top, 4-2.

"We'll take some time to unwind," said Blammo, "and then get after it again."

Game 3 is scheduled for Thursday at Cambridge Polymer Field in Cambridge.

Game 3: Lexington 3, Cambridge 2

Road Win Lifts Lexington to 2-1 Lead in ACS

The Lexington Synths got a strong performance from pitcher Admiral Kelm, who stymied the Cambridge offense en route to a 3-2 win in Game 3 of the Association Championship Series. The Coursers could never get a bead on the right-handed Kelm, who threw 5.2 innings allowing 2 runs. The Synths now hold a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-7 series.

Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Dude Lebowski? The Lexington left fielder had a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth inning to put the Synths on top, 3-2. For the game, Lebowski had 1 double and 1 single in 3 at-bats.

"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Lexington skipper Jon Castro.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Cambridge Polymer Field in Cambridge.

Cambridge Wins Association Championship Series

The Cambridge Coursers are riding high after winning the Association Championship Series and eliminating the Lexington Synths by a series score of 4-2.

The final blow came tonight at Super Duper Mart Stadium, when Cambridge secured its spot in the Sole Survivor Series with a 10-8 victory.

Cambridge took the lead for good in the top of the 4th on their way to the series victory. Trailing 6-5, Lexington pitcher Lyle Pine walked Bubbler Mayhem and Pro Jabonete to start the inning. Quincy Craggs then singled to load the bases. Ace O'Spades hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game, 6-6. Then . . . Clownie Blammo earned himself an award. blasting a three-run bomb that ultimately helped to send the Coursers to the Sole Survivor Series.

"It feels good to put them away because we really didn't want to let them crawl back into this series," said catcher Blammo, who was named Series MVP. "A team like that, you need to bury them when you get the chance."

Blammo certainly helped his team's cause, as he hit .455 with a .520 on-base percentage in the series. He also chipped in 3 home runs, drove in 7 RBI and scored 5 runs.

The Cambridge Coursers don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Diamond City Swatters - Southie Brews series. Southie leads the series 3 games to 2. The Sole Survivor Series schedule will be announced after the Association Championship Series finishes.

Diamond City manager A-Juan Rodriguez commended his team for "banging out a nice win."

"We're happy," Navale told reporters after the win. "When you're in the playoffs, you've got to treat every game like it could be your last."

Game 4: Diamond City 5, Southie 0

Diamond City Wins to Pull Even With Southie

The Diamond City Swatters knotted up the Association Championship Series at Gwinnett Brewery Park, thanks in large part to starter Macho Lopez. Lopez quieted the Southie Brews, enabling Diamond City to grab the 5-0 win and move into a 2-2 tie in the best-of-7 series.

In his 94-pitch effort, Lopez allowed no runs on 4 hits over 7 innings. He walked 1 and struck out 6.

"That was a really good outing by Macho," said Diamond City manager A-Juan Rodriguez.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Gwinnett Brewery Park in Boston.

Game 5: Southie 6, Diamond City 4

Critical Game 5 Goes to Host Brews, 6-4

The Southie Brews needed some late heroics to do it, but ultimately emerged one game away from the Sole Survivor Series. The Brews needed 11 innings before taking the 6-4 win against the Diamond City Swatters in a walk-off at Gwinnett Brewery Park. Southie second baseman Gav Gidree was 2-4 with 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. The win gives the Brews a 3-2 advantage in the best-of-7 Association Championship Series.

Southie got a knockout punch from Clean Blake Dean. The right fielder hammered a 2-run home run in the bottom of the 11th inning to win the game. It might've been his only hit, but it decided the outcome.

"Our team found a way to get it done," said Dean.

Game 6 is scheduled for Tuesday at The Great Green Jewel in Boston.

Game 6: Diamond City 8, Southie 2

Arana, Swatters Wallop Brews in Game 6 of ACS

The Diamond City Swatters and the Southie Brews will take the Association Championship Series to a decisive 7th game. In a must-win situation, the Swatters beat the Brews, 8-2, at The Great Green Jewel to force the series into what will essentially be a one-game playoff. Diamond City catcher Ramrod Arana went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3.

In the bottom of the third, Diamond City first baseman Slob Zuzoric had a productive at-bat. With runners on 1st and 3rd and two out, Zuzoric stroked a 2-run double to center. It made the score 4-0, Diamond City. For the game, he was 1 for 4 with a double, while adding 2 RBI.

"We didn't help ourselves, it's as simple as that," said losing manager Austin Shuler.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at The Great Green Jewel in Boston.

Game 7: Diamond City 4, Southie 1

Swatters Heading to Sole Survivor Series

The Diamond City Swatters and Southie Brews held nothing back in an entertaining Association Championship Series that went the distance.

In the end, it will be Diamond City advancing to the Sole Survivor Series, after a 4-1 triumph in the final game at The Great Green Jewel, to wrap up the series 4-3.

The Swatters took the lead for good in the bottom of the 3rd. Tied 1-1 entering the inning, Vignar Graymane led off with a single off Jobe Christie and then stole second. With one out, Alex Bragman walked. Teng Dgebuadze then singled to load the bases.

Slob Zuzoric followed with an RBI single that ended up allowing Bragman to also score on Clean Blake Dean's fielding error in RF. That made it 3-1, a deficit the Brews could never overcome as starter Macho Lopez and closer Machine Beard shut them out the rest of the game. Lopez was named Game MVP. He finished 2-1 in the series in three starts.

The Swatters players celebrated jubilantly in their clubhouse after the game, while the scene was one of dismay on the opposing side for the Brews.

Graymane was named series MVP for Diamond City. For the series, Graymane hit .370 with a .414 on-base percentage. He had 2 home runs, drove in 3 RBI and scored 6 runs.

Sole Survivor Series 2318

BNN Report

News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

27 September 2318

Sole Survivor Series: #5 Cambridge Coursers (68-62) vs #1 Diamond City Swatters (74-56)

Season Series: Cambridge 2, Diamond City 1

June 1-3 @Cam: DC 8-4, Cam 12-4, Cam 8-4

Analysis

For the second-straight season, we have a #5 vs #1 matchup in the Sole Survivor Series. Before that, it was #6 vs #3. That is a trend of three straight seasons where one team in the Sole Survivor Series had "road-field advantage" throughout the playoffs.

Historically, there is only one precedent of the two teams here, and that playoff record is not that outstanding versus some other franchises. In the case of the Cambridge Coursers, this is not only their first appearance in the Sole Survivor Series but 2318 also marks their first victory in the playoffs in just their second appearance and their first series win to go along with their second and third series wins. Not only that, but the Coursers' defeated the CBO's top three teams as far as regular season standings are concerned. They now face the team with the CBO's fourth-best record. Defeating all four would be an accomplishment no other team has done on its way to a championship. No team has ever defeated the top three teams, either.

Diamond City is the "capital" of the Commonwealth, and its baseball team (as well as the CBO and our BNN offices) now completely occupy The Great Green Jewel and the rest of the town moved on into the historical Fens. Over time, the Swatters have seen success, especially in the 2299 and 2300 seasons when they defeated Fort Hagen in the Sole Survivor Series. After seven straight appearances in the playoffs from 2298-2304, Diamond City disappeared for the next eight years. They are now in the playoffs for the sixth-straight year, and hope to return to that 2299-2300 form, also their only Sole Survivor Series appearances. The Swatters are the only team to have appeared in multiple Sole Survivor Series and remain undefeated. Technically, that is also true of The Slog, but the 2296 and 2297 Sole Survivor Series are not considered official as part of the CBO.

Looking at the 2318 Cambridge team, we have to first state that the overwhelming definition of BNN's thoughts on them is "underdog." We wrote them off. You wrote them off. Everyone wrote them off but the Bobrov brothers, owners of the team and everyone down from them in the franchise, including manager Katt Daniels, who has been their only manager in team history despite some early down years.

This season, Cambridge's offense lacked proficiency, finishing tied for 9th in the NCA in runs scored (623). There were still stars on offense, though, considering LF Bubbler Mayhem (.332/26/89) and CF Pro Jabonete (.341/18/88) occupy the middle of the lineup. For pitching, the numbers were not outstanding, though they were good. The Coursers were 3rd in runs allowed (587) and 6th in Starters ERA (4.37). Ace Scooter Yaghmour (12-13, 4.70) did not appear to have a good year. However, in the playoffs, he has been 3-1, 2.60, showing flashes of that 2315 Vim! Pitcher Award campaign. The bullpen was 2nd in ERA (4.13) with closer Monte Ward (27 SV, 3.97) leading the way.

For the Diamond City squad, everyone looks at pitching, which is their strength, but the bats have some pop, too. The Swatters finished 7th in runs scored. SS Alex Bragman (.327/21/83) was the leading hitter in the regular season, but he has also been hot in the postseason, too, homering twice so far in 10 games, scoring eight, and driving in five. Rookie RF Teng Dgebuadze, a 4th-round pick out of of Greenfield College in 2316, has been even hotter, batting .351 with a double, two triples, a home run, seven runs scored, and seven driven in.

For pitching, we know the Swatters rank among the best. Diamond City was 2nd in runs allowed (548) with the 2nd-best Starters ERA (3.80). All three playoff starters--Macho Lopez (15-12, 3.06), Dropper Millieu (7-5, 3.68), and Beachboy Nut (8-8, 3.71)--are capable of taking over a game. CL machine Beard (31 SV, 3.21) has been solid out of the bullpen, though there are some weaknesses on that unit.

When comparing the lineups expected for Game 1, Cambridge may have even more advantages than we think. They already earned a pitching matchup advantage by playing six games in the NCACS, while the Swatters had to play seven in the SCACS. Diamond City has advantages at the 2nd and 5th slots in the lineup, but the Coursers have more advantages overall. This talent comparison has shown us something and taught us a lot about just how tough Cambridge had it in the Institute League in 2318. It is amazing they are the team standing but may actually be better than all the opponents they have faced, just not as exposed.

The position vs position matchups look this way with a change in just naming the expected starters for the first three games in direct competition. These are based on OSA scouting ratings only, not 2318 productivity. Easy Town vs Quincy in order of players:

Game 1 SP: Scooter Yaghmour > Dropper Millieu
Game 2 SP: Freon McMahan < Beachboy Nut
Game 3 SP: Malik Watts < Macho Lopez
Top RP: Bullets Barnes > Heaven Fontenot
CL: Monte Ward < Machine Beard
C: Clownie Blammo < Ramrod Arana
1B: Frigate Magdaleno > Slob Zuzoric
2B: Arbor Creek < Chill Pillman
3B: Ace O'Spades < Hey Dentra Venski
SS: Dave Clifford < Alex Bragman
LF: Bubbler Mayhem > Todd Smithfield
CF: Pro Jabonete < Vignar Graymane
RF: Jim Geiger < Teng Dgebuadze

Prediction

Based on their standing, home-field advantage, and history, everything looks to be in Diamond City's favor. Well, not everything. Cambridge had more wins in the regular season and has some lineup matchups that could give them the upper hand. We keep underestimating the Coursers' ability, but they have shown through three rounds that they can be consistent and dangerous. And they are a hot team. We are flipping tables and going against all gut instincts here, picking a new champion to rise from the CBO stockpile. Cambridge 4, Diamond City 3

Nuka World - CBO

The wait is over, and we know which team will be the CBO representative from the Bradberton-Nuka World region: The Nuka World Thrills.

According to Sierra Petrovita-Bradberton, Nuka-Cola's Marketing VP and wife to Nuka-Cola owner John-Caleb Bradberton, the owners wanted the team name to be authentic to the theme park theme, something that sounded exciting, and something that would express the Nuka World brand without relying on the Nuka-Cola logo.

A few team names as alternatives had combinations of being called either Bradberton or Nuka World as the location and finalists for the mascot included:

Tycoons
Caps
Sippers

Cambridge's run has been impressive, why should it stop now? I think they're going to pull it off

I am about to enter a nice little busy period of about 3-4 weeks, so I simmed ahead and will report on the full results instead of reporting every time the teams switch locations. The spoiler is that they reached a third location!

I like that Cambridge may come out of nowhere to win it. I don't know if they will get another chance with this core, so it may be their time to get one.

Sole Survivor Series 2318

BNN Report

News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

5 October 2318

Classic Sole Survivor Series Ends; Swatters on Top

The 2318 season has come to a close with the Diamond City Swatters defeating the underdog Cambridge Coursers, 4 games to 2. It is the Swatters' third Sole Survivor Series championship, but their first since 2300.

"Eleven years," Series MVP Todd Smithfield said between gasps after getting up from a pile-on. "I have been in DC for 11 years. This is the top!"

Smithfiled hit .385 with 4 home runs and 6 RBI.

Raul Esparza, who has been a part of all three championships, thanks to his time in Diamond City from 2298-2318, had a few thoughts.

"This may be it for me, I don't know," Esparza said. "I do know that I am 39 and will now get my third ring with this team. I honestly didn't expect it to happen again after 2300."

Esparza pitched in two games in the Sole Survivor Series, allowing no runs on two hits with a strikeout in 1.1 innings.

"This feels nice," Swatters team star Alex Bragman said. "I didn't start here. I was with Starlight at first, but all my CBO days have been here. I love playing in The Great Green Jewel. I am so happy that we were able to win the Series here in front of our fans and all of the Commonwealth."

Bragman led the team by hitting .407 in the playoffs but had no home runs despite leading the team and finishing 9th in the CBO with 27.

Diamond City went 3-1 in one-run games in the Series, with pitching being the only "tell" in a difference like that.

Sole Survivor Series: Diamond City 4, Cambridge 2

Game 1: Diamond City 5, Cambridge 4, 11 inn.

Walkoff Double Wins Game One in 11

The Diamond City Swatters took the first game of the Sole Survivor Series in dramatic fashion, topping the Cambridge Coursers, 5-4, in an extra-inning walk-off win. Swatters left-hander Dropper Millieu threw 6.0 innings of 5-hit ball.

The decisive blow was delivered by Hey Dentra Venski in the bottom of the 11th when he hit a 2-run double off 23-year old right-handed pitcher Bullets Barnes to win the game for Diamond City. The home crowd went nuts. The win was set up when Heaven Fontenot, pitching and relief, had to bat with two outs and no one on base. He singled, leading to the eventual game-winning, walkoff double

"I'm just looking to see the ball, hit the ball," said Venski.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at The Great Green Jewel in Boston.

Game 2: Cambridge 10, Diamond City 7

Magdaleno Blasts Swatters, Coursers Take Game 2, 10-7

Cambridge first baseman Frigate Magdaleno was the difference-maker for the Coursers in what turned into a shootout with the Diamond City Swatters. Magdaleno earned accolades after going 4-for-5 in the 10-7 Coursers win. With the victory, the Coursers moved into a 1-1 tie in the best-of-7 series.

Pro Jabonete came through with a big-time hit for Cambridge. The center fielder smacked a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 10-7. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Cambridge manager Katt Daniels.

Game 3 is scheduled for Monday at Cambridge Polymer Field in Cambridge.

Game 3: Diamond City 8, Cambridge 2

Pillman, Swatters Wallop Coursers in Game 3 of SSS

Riding the 2-hit performance of second baseman Chill Pillman, the Diamond City Swatters got a road win against the Cambridge Coursers, 8-2, in Game 3 of the Sole Survivor Series. Pillman went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once for the Swatters, who now lead the best-of-7 series, 2 games to 1.

With the game tied, 1-1, in the top of the sixth, Pillman had a key at-bat for Diamond City. With the bases loaded, Pillman hit a grand slam home run off Freon McMahan, making the score 5-1, Swatters.

"My job is to go out and play as hard as I can for the Swatters," said Pillman.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Cambridge Polymer Field in Cambridge.

Game 4: Diamond City 7, Cambridge 6

Almost There: Diamond City On Cusp of Sole Survivor Series Triumph After 7-6 Win

Riding the 2-hit performance of left fielder Todd Smithfield, the Diamond City Swatters got a road win against the Cambridge Coursers, 7-6, in Game 4 of the Sole Survivor Series. Smithfield went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Swatters, who now lead the best-of-7 series, 3 games to 1.

Slob Zuzoric came through with a big-time hit for Diamond City. The first baseman smacked a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 7-6. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

Coursers manager Katt Daniels did not take questions after the game, telling assembled reporters that he would hold a press conference "if and when we win the Sole Survivor Series."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Cambridge Polymer Field in Cambridge.

Turning Point: Assuming Game 5 would go the same way with the Coursers taking that game, Game 4's 9th inning proved to be the point where the Swatters could take the Series.

Trailing 6-3 entering the top of the 9th, Diamond City decided to get offensive. With Monte Ward on the mound, Ramrod Arana started with a solo home run to cut the lead to two. After a fly out and strike out, Alex Bragman singled, followed by a single by Teng Dgebuadze. Slob Zuzoric then hit a three-run home run to give the Swatters the lead.

Game 5: Cambridge 3, Diamond City 2

Coursers Clip Swatters, 3-2, in SSS Contest

Malik Watts was not about to watch an opponent celebrate a championship on his home field.

The left-hander pitched the Cambridge Coursers to victory at Cambridge Polymer Field, staving off the Diamond City Swatters, who remain one game away from a title. Watts threw 6.0 innings allowing 2 runs. The win cuts the series deficit for the Coursers to 3-2 in the best-of-7 series.

John Cluff drew 1 walk for Cambridge. With two out and the game tied in the bottom of the seventh inning, Cluff, who is rated as the 21st best prospect by BNN, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Diamond City hurler Ted Iam, he drew a walk, driving in 1 run to give the Coursers a 3-2 lead.

Cambridge manager Katt Daniels called it "a good, solid win."

Game 6 is scheduled for Friday at The Great Green Jewel in Boston.

Game 6: Diamond City 5, Cambridge 4

It's Over! Diamond City Defeats Cambridge

It was all about winning for the Diamond City Swatters -- and win they did.

There was nothing fancy in how they went about it, players said, they just prepared mentally and physically and then went out and played baseball.

"We did the little things right and we did the big things right," said left fielder Todd Smithfield, who was named series MVP. "Now we're the league champions."

Diamond City defeated the Cambridge Coursers by a score of 5-4 at The Great Green Jewel to take the series 4-2.

Slob Zuzoric's 8th-inning solo home run proved to be his second game-winning homer of the series. This time, it clinched the Series.

"Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you make your own luck," said Diamond City manager A-Juan Rodriguez. "We got lucky a few times, but mostly we did the right things by being prepared for each game and playing the game the way it's meant to be played."

October 2318

CBO Offseason

While this offseason will not bustle as next offseason, when four new teams* join the CBO, as well as the four minor league teams per new team, it is still an important one.

We know that next offseason, the NWL and Vim! Leagues will fold into the CBO to become a part of the Greater Boston Rookie League. We feel as though the CBO teams becoming the parent club of those teams will retain only stadium, name, and uniform rights, while all of the Season Pass Association players become free agents, though there has been no announcement. Let's just explore a few things we know are coming before we focus on the shift from 2318 to 2319.

The CBO plans to maintain the four league system, thus each league gets one franchise. The announced information is thus that the following leagues will get the following teams:

Brotherhood - Far Harbor Fog
Institute - Nuka World Thrills
Minutemen - Cape Cod Mirelurks
Railroad - Providence Super Mutants

Details on minor league affiliates are still coming in, with the expected shifts in affiliations, locations, and minor league levels starting to take place wholesale sometime after the draft through early 2319 and then again following the 2319 season.

The CBO is trying to get the top levels, especially the New England League and the Massachusetts Minor League to expand their borders. Some cities expected to be in the NEBL are based on a settlement population survey conducted in 2315. From those results, the ten largest population centers by town/city in New England include:

1. Boston as the obvious most-populated city center and also includes multiple CBO teams
2. Worcester (studies into future expansion are already taking place)
3. Providence
4. Bradberton-Springfield
5. Hartford, CT
6. Bridgeport, CT
7. Cambridge
8. Lexington
9. Manchester, NH
10. Quincy

Speaking of other short-listed future expansion possibilities (please note: there is no current plans for further expansion), here are some thoughts. Worcester is mentioned as a place to add an extra franchise or move a team struggling financially. Some of the small-market teams are always on the brink. There has been some shift in markets since we last reported. On the daily basis, most fan bases are local, so population centers are important, thus why locations like Abernathy Farm and Finch Farm could not sustain long-term. Other locations that we think could eventually move to larger population center include:

Sunshine Tidings - Low population center overall. In proximity to Concord, which also has a large enough population center and team. Lowest attendance in the CBO (which determined this order).

Nordhagen Beach - Owner Emogene Cabot seems to like money, and moving the Party Boys could provide more of that. The population in Winthrop competes with the Brotherhood of Steel HQ at Boston Airport. With the close proximity of two teams, both get hurt by lower revenue, though their games against each other tend to have high attendance.

Egret - Also a low population center. While the population has expanded farther out from being right up against Egret Tours Marina, the settlement of Egret does not have much more room for expansion compared to places with more established infrastructure.

Jamaica Plain - JP is a large enough population center, but the attendance is pretty poor even with a good team in recent years. While we thing that JP is less likely to relocate compared to the three named above, it is a possibility. Since owner Kasumi Nakano has a connection to Maine, it would be a wonder if Portland would be in contention for this franchise.

Easy Town - As mentioned with Nordhagen Beach, one of the Boys or Assaultrons may eventually go. Even with a recent championship, the Trons have a hard time getting a large crowd on hand since many of the residents in the area are members of the Brotherhood of Steel. Even Winthrop and the Easy City Downs racetrack and gambling center seems to associate more with Nordhagen Beach. Majority team owner Deb Merchant was associated with Bunker Hill before purchasing the Easy Town franchise, so there is no allegiance to Easy Town.

There were a large number of retirements and releases in both players and front office personnel throughout the CBO. Here is the list of retirees with big names bolded and one bolded and enlarged:

College Draft Outlook

With the draft less than a month away, we want to start focusing on what scout's think is a really good class overall with lots of players expected to premier in the CBO within the next three seasons. Some are expected to be on CBO rosters to begin 2319.

Scouts have settled on their current ranking of talent. While we at BNN have ranted and raved about the three pitchers, and we still believe this is a much-needed strong pitching class, they still see position players going heavy early. In the Top 5, the current expectation of picks is: 1B Bear Jones, Tufts; SP Arcade Anderson. Northeastern; 1B Ryanab Costello, Vermont Tech; C Cade Atombride, Acadia College; and C Guffy Verizon, Bunker Hill.

Here are the Top 5 teams in the 2318 draft and where we think they may go based on team needs and scout ratings:

1. County Crossing

Needs: OF, SP, RP

Our thoughts: If 1B Jones really is the top pick, he will be taken despite 1B Scott Eacott being perhaps the Bloodbugs' best current player. Eacott could be an All-Star. but Jones could be a legend.

If things even out and looking at top talent by OSA ratings, Both CFs Javon Lambert and Taco Dobson do have an "elite potential" rating. We think, though, that SP would be the more likely need-based pick with Arcade Anderson as the most-pro ready elite-level prospect or youth leaguer, Eagle Eye Hayes, getting the call as someone we believe could be an all-time great with the likes of Nut and Lalosh.

Our initial call: SP Arcade Anderson

2. Quincy

Needs: SP, C, 3B

Our thoughts: Of course, Anderson, Hayes, or Cap Anson could go here, but we had another thought with the assumption that County Crossing goes pitcher first: 3B can be less of a need with a change. Current 1B, Dodge Squallbender, is capable as a 3B. Moving him there and then drafting a 1B stud could solve their 3B need situation right away.

This is where we think Jones makes a better choice. He would solve some of the power-hitting woes of the Granites and slots in immediately in the 3rd or 4th spot. Quincy does not get their pitcher yet, but there are some good options that will be around in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

Our initial call: 1B Bear Jones

3. Sunshine Tidings

Needs: SP, SS

Our thoughts: The Chemists are a young team, so they may have some of their pieces in place. Pitcher is one place that they do not have those pieces, so pitching is the best option. They could also upgrade the SS position, though Down Home Dahl (.348/5/16) handled the job well in limited time (56 games, 23 starts).

The draft pool is not heavy on can't-miss SS prospects, so finding a better option for Dahl does not appear to be at the #3 spot. CYL's Boston Harbor
s Average Joe Wilson could work towards becoming a SS, but scouts believe that he will be moved to 1B and focus on his power hitting instead of defense at the next level.

The reality is that the Chemists will probably turn their eye to Hayes, or one of the other potentially elite pitchers, including Anson, SP Rhubarb Coombs, SP Envy Cockburn, and SP Pattie Harborman.

Our initial call: SP Eagle Eye Hayes

4. Nordhagen Beach

Needs: RP, 2B, SP, C, SS, 3B

Our thoughts: The Party Boys are the neediest team, and they will likely be picking #1 in 2319. They can look forward to SP Graham Cracker Fontenot of Elms College, RF Old Blue Sandoval of Narragansett U, SP Starlight Ball of the Salem Werewolves, or SP Bryce Yaag of the Truro Hatchlings. That's 2319, though.

In 2318, we sincerely think that the Boys should take the highest-rated players. Assuming that the first three picks are Anderson, Jones, and Hayes, there are still a lot of strong options.

The catcher position then becomes interesting here. Scouts believe that Acadia College's Atombride is a late-bloomer whom they expect to be the best catcher in this draft when time has passed. That may be a risk, so youth options Guffy Verizon of Boston Common and Carl Ireland of Lexington. Ireland's teammate, 2B Boob Willis, could also be a player the Boys fall in love with.

Well, we have to make a decision, so we will go with . . .

This could also be the third pitcher picked as we predict will happen. Anson or Coombs would probably play well here.

Our initial call: C Guffy Verizon

5. Bunker Hill

Needs: RP, RF

Our thoughts: We think that Bunker Hill is decently talented. Pitching was not great, but they tried to address the position during the 2318 season by acquiring Jacques Of'ten from the Party Boys. Relief pitching is still bad, but that position is not being addressed with the 5th pick.

That leaves outfield as a position of need. Ruby Randle, the 19th-overall pick in 2315, may be that person, but he has not shown it yet in three seasons with the organization. Of course, Esau Babz started as a RF, the position he played when teammates with his twin brother, Eden, with the Weymouth Locksmiths. Moving Babz to RF and drafting the top CF is the option we think is best for the 75ers.

That is why we are turning our attention to the top OF prospect, Javon Lambert of the Barrington Chess Knights. Lambert has been a solid hitter throughout his time with the Chess Knights. He also has shown flashes in the outfield. Scouts think he may fit best in LF, but he does have the speed and range to play CF. LF Steven Shin of Boston College Prep and CF Taco Dobson of Danvers are other options. Dobson is similar in probably moving out of CF in the pros, and he does offer more power potential for a team looking to build up the home run potential on their roster. Dobson is second all-time in career home runs (121) in the CYL.

Home runs are something the 75ers are actually good at, so our choice is on the other parts of the team needed: hitting for average, basepath speed, and solid defense.

Our initial call: CF Javon Lambert

CBO Awards

NCA Hitter - Jacob Tarberry, the talented Malden third baseman, certainly made his name known among North Charles Association hurlers this season. He hammered them for 171 hits, 42 doubles, 3 triples, 28 home runs, 106 RBIs and scored 101 times. That kind of output made him the choice for North Charles Association Nuka-Hitter Award for 2318.

NCA Manager - Bryan Pingree celebrated a successful season with the Starlight Killers by hosting team officials and select media at a Starlight area first-class eatery. But when he first came to town, the 2318 North Charles Association Manager of the Year was met with a good measure of skepticism.

"Very few people believed in our ballclub when I got here. It just goes to show you that a bunch of talented ballplayers playing together can make any old manager a genius," a modest Pingree joked, not fully recognizing his own stature in the baseball community.

However, baseball journalists duly noted his managerial skill as he skippered the Killers to a 77-53 record this year and a first place finish in the North Charles Association Institute League.

SCA Manager - A-Juan Rodriguez, skipper of the Diamond City Swatters, was voted 2318 South Charles Association Manager of the Year and accepted the award earlier today.

He guided Diamond City to first place in the South Charles Association Railroad League with a 74-56 record.

"I'm very happy about this," he said at the press conference. "But I'm more happy about what my boys did on the field. They battled their butts off for me all year. They should get the credit."

NCA Rookie - What a season it was for Easy Town's Donnie Gray in this new star's first year in the North Charles Association. He put together a year that earned him the 2318 Red Rocket Rookie Award.

The 26-year-old first baseman crunched some good numbers with a .351 batting average and a .419 on-base percentage to go with his 25 home runs, 88 RBIs and 83 runs scored.

He received 28 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. DJ Shark of the Starlight Killers finished second in voting, while Kicks Stannard of the Cambridge Coursers finished third.

NCA Reliever - Wizard Albutt said he thinks hitters often underestimate him, as he's only 23 years old.

But he'll certainly be getting a lot more respect now, as the Starlight Killers rising star has won the North Charles Association Fallon's Reliever Award for 2318.

He captured the award on the strength of his 2.48 ERA over 58 innings. He also had 28 saves in 52 relief appearances, 62 strikeouts and only 13 walks.

He received 23 first place votes out of a possible 28. Crazylegs Jones of the Malden Grognaks finished second in voting with 5 first place votes, while Carter Hall of the Nahant Celtics finished third.

CBO Draft: Five College Players to Watch

We mentioned a few college players in last week's draft preview of the Top 5 picks. This week, we will take a look at five more top college players in addition to the players mentioned last week. Just a note, youth league players are much more highly rated as a group.

1. 1B Ryanab Costello, Vermont Tech - The three-year starter for the Maples, Costello helped to lead his team to the playoffs all three seasons. He hit .407 in his junior (final) season with 21 home runs and 49 RBI. Scouts love his ability to hit for power and see him as a middle-of-the-lineup addition to any team he plays for. The lefty is a decently-good 1B, so he can be an everyday player.

2. SP Pattie Harborman, Hartford - While the Hawks of Hartford University have yet to make the playoffs, than can be proud of the development of Harborman. Harborman became a SP after leaving the Sandwich Screamers of the CYL as a reliever. In three seasons with the Hawks, Harbormen just went 25-15 with a 2.99 ERA, including recording 452 strikeouts in 403.0 innings. Scouts consider his fastball and curve to be CBO-quality, so he should be able to make it at least as a reliever in the CBO. He is getting better and better at controlling where his pitches go, and scouts love that he truly has a "next pitch" mentality.

3. 2B MJ Saw, Massachusetts Maritime - The first of two Buccaneers considered to be 1st-round worthy, Saw is a talented infielder who has looked really comfortable in the CCBL at 2B. He can also [play SS or 3B in a pinch, so he is a defensive utility man. On offense, Saw was among the team leaders in all three Triple Crown categories for the Atlantic Sound Conference champions. Saw can hit for power, but he can also swipe bases, accumulating 28 stolen bases in his two seasons with MAMU.

4. SP Diddy Balcome, Massachusetts Maritime - While he is not likely to go in the 1st round when compared to some of the other pitchers, the Bucs' Balcome has show flashes of greatness. Scouts are excited about what his slider brings to the league. Balcome's low potential comes in his control. CBO pitchers would either hold off on the bad pitches or blast away those that go dead center. Should he learn to control his pitches, scouts are sure that he can break into a starting rotation.

5. RF Aethan Fry, Greenfield College - Like Saw, Fry only played two seasons with the Greenies, sitting out completely during his freshman season. He has since been a two-year starter for Greenfield College. Scouts think he is a rising potential star but are realistic that Fry may be taken in the 3rd round at earliest. Scouts think that full development makes him a good, not great, CBO player who will be good enough at the plate and in the outfield to play every day.

Edit: 4/23/2026 - Because of the glitch, I re-ran the post Sole Survivor Series sim. Two of the winners, both from the NCA, ended up changing. Stories below:

NCA Hitter - Bunker Hill's Esau Babz put the wraps on a fine campaign today by winning the 2318 North Charles Association Nuka-Hitter Award.

The 24-year-old veteran scorched the opposition with a .335 average, picking up 167 hits, 32 doubles, 4 triples, 41 home runs and 108 RBIs, while scoring 111 runs.

He received 17 first place votes out of a possible 28. Jacob Tarberry of the Malden Grognaks finished second in voting with 8 first place votes, while Nauseous Revere of the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud finished third with 3 first place votes.

Player - Team - First Place - Total Points

Chris Tardy - Bunker Hill 75ers - 0 - 4
Jannar Arbor - Concord Radstags - 0 - 1
Zap Mast - The Slog Ghouls - 0 - 1

NCA Starter - The Starlight Killers have a rising superstar or maybe even a budding Hall-of-Famer in the making. It's Mercury Morris, this year's North Charles Association Vim! Pitcher Award selection. This blossoming hurler wowed fans, peers and sportswriters with a fabulous performance.

Morris compiled a 17-7 record in 32 starts, tallied 175 strikeouts in 222 innings and recorded a 2.51 ERA. Other clubs managed only a .236 batting average against him.

He received 16 first place votes out of a possible 28. Paul Stains of the Salem Witch Hats finished second in voting with 12 first place votes, while Nuke Laloosh of the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud finished third.

BNN Report

News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

28 October 2318

CBO Draft Preview

We are just over a week away from the 2318 Rookie Draft, with the pool of 3456 players awaiting word if they will be one of the 560 players selected.

This week, we are going to look at some high level youth league (CYL) players who were not discussed in the Top 5, but are possible picks in the Top 10. This season's draft is considered CYL-heavy for the available talent with many more CYL players predicted to go early than CCBL players. Here are five we're watching starting in 2319.

1. 1B Grizz Cunningham, Littleton Beasts - Cunningham saw a productivity drop off in 2318 after hitting 32 bombs in 2317. Part of that was that pitchers pitched around him more, evidenced by the 42 walks in 2318. Cunninghman has been consistently good, though, and scouts think that he could develop into an elite power hitter. He is also good at 1B and could play anywhere in the infield in a pinch due to his strong throwing arm.

2. C Griff Hope, Plymouth Hunters - Guffy Verizon is the catcher getting the most attention, but two on this list shows that teams needing catcher prospects will have plenty to choose from. Hope is one of those prospects who appears to be the most well-rounded. What he is not is a power hitter, racking up just 21 in four seasons in Plymouth. He did finish with a .420 batting average splitting time with another talented catcher in Snoopy Barron. Hope is also a good defensive catcher, though he is much better handling and framing pitches than throwing out runners.

3. 2B Florante Lisao, Nauset beach Lurk Hunters - Lisao is someone you would call a surprise power hitter. He finished tied for 7th all-time in home runs (110), just 17 behind the all-time leader Sluggo Luge. In the past two seasons with the Lurk Hunters, he hit 33 and 35 homers, respectively. Scouts think that he will be a great SLG hitter and think that could raise him into the Top 10. He is a pretty good 2B and could slide to 1B if needed.

4. SP Mad Dog Waqanitoga, Kittery Skippers - One thing will hold back a very talented pitcher in Waqanitoga: health. Scouts have expressed that the talent is there but the body may not hold up. Especially concerning is that Waqanitoga missed time in 2318 with back issues. When he is on the mound, though, he can reach 100 MPH with a killer fastball. He has a four-pitch repertoire with really good forkballs and sinkers. Batters hit over the top a lot and hit a lot of easy grounders to 2B and SS. Waqatinoga finished 18-8 with a 2.20 ERA in 43 career starts and 270.0 innings pitched with Kittery. He struck out 317 batters and walked 33. His ratio of 1.10 BB/9 is the all-time best in CYL history. 0.39 better than Mister Burns (2304-2305) as the 2nd-best.

5. C Carl Ireland, Lexington Minuteboys - While Hope is not a power hitter, Ireland most certainly is. Scouts think that he will be among the best of catchers in home run totals. He may not be Red Jay Jones level, but Ireland is still expected to bat in the middle of the lineup at whichever level he plays. In four seasons with the Minuteboys, the 6'9" Ireland saw his home run numbers climb from 12 his freshman season to 27 his senior season for 80 total. He is also a good defensive catcher with a strong arm to throw out runners at a decent rate. He will be an everyday player in the CBO sooner than later.

More of the draft pool's top prospects:

CBO Top Ten Prospects, 2318 Offseason

Now that the season has finished, it's time to look forward to the future, and what better way than to look at the brightest future stars of the league, courtesy of BNN. This year, 18 year-old CF Walker Cress of the Concord Radstags is the #1 prospect overall.

Here is the top 10:
1) CF Walker Cress, 18, Concord Radstags
2) C Peter Krenwinkel, 19, Bunker Hill 75ers
3) C Rad Malina, 18, Glowing Sea Radscorpions
4) LHP Stlee Jensen, 22, Easy Town Assaultrons
5) RF Edan O'Dwyer, 20, Lexington Synths
6) 2B Heady Stepniewski, 18, Spectacle Island Reapers
7) LHP Key Nam, 20, Sunshine Tidings Chemists
8) SS Early Duvet, 19, Diamond City Swatters
9) RHP Talley O'Reilly, 18, Sunshine Tidings Chemists
10) RHP Alex Moon, 22, Malden Grognaks

CBO Offseason News

We are still awaiting some of the changes to take place. Commissioner Jason LaRue did not allow players from the entering CCBL and CYL leagues to enter the draft, citing that none of the 10 incoming CCBL institutions nor any of the 12 incoming CYL teams had players scouted to be drafted in the 20 rounds. Speculation is that scout time was devoted to the currently 3456 players in the draft pool for the current CCBL and CYL teams. Apparently, this class is so good that scouts did not seek out "diamonds in the rough." They are content with the current talent pool.

What we do know is that there will be plenty of movements sometime after the draft into early 2319 season. Apparently, the CBO is rearranging some of its minor league affiliations with a lot of that movement coming this offseason and then completing a lot more following the 2319 season to set up for the four new franchises.

Some of the things we have gotten word on so far is this:

The Slog has announced a uniform change that will scrap the same uniforms they used since 2296. We expect to see the uniforms around draft time. All we got word of is that the team is adding a third color, black, to its dark moderate blue and white colors.

There are a few relocations of minor league teams. Thus far, we know of three:

Castle Strength (Southie) -> Concord, NH and now the Capital City Conquerors.

Winchester Bashers (Diamond City) -> Amherst, MA and now the Amherst Bashers

Neponset Park Criticals -> Peabody, MA and now the Peabody Criticals

Supposed realignment of minor league divisions will take place in January.

CBO Stats 2318

Here are the final stats for offense and defense in the CBO.

DRAFT!!!!

We will come to you on Wednesday morning with the results of the draft. This is the last of our previews on the 2318 crop.

This time, we will take a look at the OSA Mock Draft and what we think about what we are seeing. We will break down the top ten picks mentioned, noticing a few changes. We will also look at the surprises (ratings risers by OSA standards).

#1 County Crossing - 1B Bear Jones, Tufts University - We do not think the Bloodbugs need Jones' bat as much as they need a true ace to take over the rotation. However, there is no doubt about Jones' talent and his ability to blast a bunch of balls into the stands. In other words, we think the Bugs may go in a different direction, but Jones is a consensus #1 in almost any season.

#2 Quincy - SP Arcade Anderson, Northeastern University - This is our top pitcher and overall player in the draft. Quincy just won a Sole Survivor Series. They may be in a perfect position to get back there by adding Anderson to the rotation. He would slot in to the 2nd or 3rd starter in the rotation immediately. A must-pick!

#3 Sunshine Tidings - C Cade Atombride, Acadia College - We said that this is a CYL-heavy draft, so where are they? Atombride is an interesting rising prospect, showing some change late in the 2318 campaign that suddenly turned scouts in his favor. That was despite being the backup catcher for the Minks and appearing in only seven games. Something outside of baeball caused him not to follow up his 2317 season. That also made scouts drop him, but now he may be #3 overall? We are not sure why. His build? We will see how accurate this prediction is.

We also disagree with OSA's pick here when the Chemists already have a stud catcher prospecy in Austin Sapia, who probably becomes the full-time starter in 2319.

#4 Nordhagen Beach - LF Steven Shin, Boston College Prep - The first CYL player comes off the board and addresses one of the Party Boys' many needs. While he will take time to make it to the CBO, Shin has a lot of power potiential and may ne a regular 25 home runs hitter eventually.

#5 Bunker Hill - SP Eagle Eye Hayes, Marblehead Mess - Hayes was truly dominant, including going 13-0 with a 1.31 ERA during his senior season with the Mess. Hayes has the chance to be a rare CYL-to-CBO player.

However, where does he pitch if the 75ers take him this season. The 75ers will not be drafting this high for awhile, so maybe taking the best player available would be their strategy. Hayes seems to be that player here as our 2nd-rated player overall.

#6 University Point - RF Deadtree Wallatello, Boston College Prep - Wallatello is not as highly-rated as some peers, so he is another wrench in the mock. He had pretty good stats but has not projected to be a top ten pick at all, and we would be surprised to see him this high.

#7 Spectacle Island - 1B Ryanab Costello, Vermont Tech - Costello is only behind Jones in 1B talent and we can see him going early. He will never be the force Jones is, but he is consistent and is good at getting on base (.500 OBP in three years with the Maples).

#8 Oberland - C Guffy Verizon, Boston Common Baby Bellies - Verizon is a great defensive catcher who can hit for some power. He will not be in the middle of a lineup, but his defensive abilities will make him an everyday option. Racky Westheim will probably retire in 2319, and the T-51s have no solid catcher prospects. Verizon would be a great pick here and where we would expect the first catcher to be taken.

#9 Salem - SP Eye Anson, Franklin Pierce University - Anson is another prospect we are crazy about. Scouts think he has true ace capabilities, though maybe not quite as good as Anderson and Hayes. Scouts think that Anson could develop four pitches that have equal devastation, something he could use to keep hitters off balance for 6+ innings.

#10 Nahant - 1B Fortunato Cask, Chicopee Galaxy - Cask is an interesting prospect. While he is projected at 1B, he identifies at 3B. He does not have great power for a 1B, but he does have great contact potential. Scouts think that he can get into the .250/15 range of ability soon, so he as a CYL player could premier as early as 2320.

Other pick we're watching closely:

#14 Roxbury - SP Rhubarb Coombs - The definitive fourth-best pitching prospect in the 2318 draft.

#23 The Slog - 2B Boob Willis - Willis could be a lot better than people think. While he will need some time to fully grow into his body, Willis could be the something special the Ghouls need to overcome the IL in the playoffs. Well, eventually. We doubt that happens in 2319.

Second Round #9 Salem - C Carl Ireland - Ireland may actually be the best catcher in the draft, so if he drops to the 2nd round, some team will benefit. OSA thinks that team is the Hats.

Second Round #17 Goodneighbor - 2B Neaner Sheni - Sheni is the type of player you put as leadoff and just let him go. He can hit for average, steal bases, and cover lots of infield space. Sheni could be a steal at this spot.

Third Round #2 Quincy - 1B Dimmy Suciu - Suciu came on in 2318, jumping from 9 homers to 30. Scouts wonder if he has a much lower ceiling than some of his peers, thus dropping him to the 3rd round, but he could be an everyday 1B from the 3rd round. Quincy would benefit from two great picks.

Third Round #18 Egret - CF Anatoli Knazev - Knyazev is an interesting speed prospect, though he ran a lot less in his senior season. He has blazing speed and covers a lot of ground in the OF. Scouts think he will bat at the top of the order and start at LF once he is fully developed.

Fourth Round #12 Easy Town - C Breslan O'Sullivan - Another interesting catcher prospect. He is a jack of all hitting trades, meaning he will be decent but not great. He is also a pretty good defensive catcher, giving O'Sullivan a chance to make it big in the CBO.

Fourth Round - 2B Sandor Mountain - A 6'4" 2B with great range and lanky arms to reach out even more, Mountain is an interesting prosect. He needs a lot of work in improving his bat, but when he makes it, he could hit for decent average though his home run numbers may never be great.

Dang. Something glitched with my draft and there is no log, no transactions, and no records in the player "Complete History." It does show up in the draft history and on the player card that they were drafted, but I think I need to revert back to my backup save a month before.

It sucks, but something is wrong. If it happens again, well, then, I will think about what I will do with this save.

Ahh so sorry to hear! Was getting ready to comment on how a lot was going on in the offseason! Not sure what could cause that, but going back to a backup may be the way to go

Sad to see Cambridge come up short too

Two bright sides. One . . . not.

One, I always backup on the first day of the offseason. Therefore, this only set me back a month. I had a few rolls for stats boosts that I would have to redo. Not that big of a deal.

Two, on simming ahead, the draft worked as expected.

I also noticed that the award winners are not predetermined! There were some different winners, so I may update that post.

The not-so-bright side: none of the team/league logos loaded up from the backup. So I have to manually reset all logos? Uniforms, caps, and pants all still seem to be loaded. Looking for a way to mass update all logos. I would guess it is somewhere.

If that works, I will make a complete backup save and then sim that backup save ahead to see if I run into anymore problems.

I hope this save can last many, many years!

Note to self when doing this for real: Take your time!

In my recovery simulation, things seem to be working. I am in 2320 and have expanded the league. However, I have made some mistakes in the setup, so I need to pay attention to that!

I successfully accidentally deleted my AAA league when intending to delete the APL (congrats, the APL got promoted for my test sim!).

I also forgot to expand the league until the day before the rookie draft. That resulted in the expansion draft happening after the rookie draft.

The good news is that everything seems to be working much better! That is the most important takeaway. I will sim a little more and then start moving into setting up the 2318 offseason matters more. I am busy until May 8 with end of the semester business, but I will always squeeze in CBO time! If I can help it, my weekends will not be busy just because I will probably not work!
