1988 MLB Playoffs
The Athletics were only able to make it to the League Championship Series as the only team in the playoffs without a World Series win. Alas, the Cubs won it all for the 4th time.

1988 Hall of Fame
E.J. Kratz, CF Opponent hitters are glad to see Kratz retire, the recipient of eight gold glove awards and a force in centerfield for the Cardinals. He was also a very capable contact hitter with speed and ability on the basepaths, leading the league in stolen bases twice and hits once. He put up four 5+WAR seasons over his career and retires as the top 20-25 CF all-time just behind Juan Alonzo. Initial Acquisition: Drafted 31st overall in 1970 by the Cardinals out of Michigan MLB Awards: 8 Youssef Raadouni GG, 2 AS, 1 WS Career Stats: 8668 PA, 2208 H, 35 HR, 452 SB, .303 wOBA, 91 wRC+, 176.1 ZR, 47.5 WAR, 40.9 JAWS Adrian Storm, LF Storm was somewhat overlooked throughout his career, putting up consistent numbers but not receiving many accolades. He did lead the league in HR once and finished 3rd in MVP voting but generally didn't make much of an impression on voters. He had few weaknesses in his game and contributed with contact, power, eye, defense, and speed. He falls shy of the Hall of Fame but was one of the better Royals ever to play. Initial Acquisition: Drafted 54th overall in 1972 by the Royals out of Rose MLB Awards: 2 AS, 2 SS Career Stats: 7756 PA, 1921 H, 191 HR, 270 SB, .342 wOBA, 115 wRC+, 17.6 ZR, 43.9 WAR, 37.8 JAWS |

1989 Top 100 Prospects
After signing with the Royals as the 1st pick in the 1988 draft, Braylen Gaines takes the reins as the first overall prospect. Five of his six pitches are already nearly MLB-ready and he looks to take a huge step this year. Dylan Elmore follows Gaines just as he did in the draft. He signed with the Rangers and will play in their Rookie league this year. |

1989 MLB Draft
College shortstop Mason Bialik was this year's first overall draft pick He was a 4-time all-star in college and two time Arnold White Slugging award winner. Oh and he did just win the Phoenix Amoss MVP as well. Sean Hinshaw was the first high schooler off the board, going second to the Rangers. He is very well-balanced and won the Jeff Garcia MVP three times and the Moe Fay slugging award four times. Peyton Mowrey was drafted by the Brewers and was the first pitcher taken. He will always struggle with control but hopefully has the stuff and movement to make up for it. |

1989 Hall of Fame
Ben Johnson, RF Johnson retires in the top-10 of all-time RF, near Brady Sheard and Moe Fay. He broke into the elite 2500 hit club in his last year in the Major leagues at age 38, finishing 34th all-time in hits. A whole bunch of those hits were doubles, as he finished with the 4th most two-baggers all-time with 536. His time was split between the Rangers and White Sox but in the transition he moved from an MVP-level candidate to "just" an above-average player. Much of that change was due to his defense turning from elite to good to average to terrible. Initial Acquisition: Drafted 6th overall in 1971 by the Rangers out of Southern California MLB Awards: 1 Tomas Reed MVP, 3 AS, 3 Paul Vines SS, 1 WS Career Stats: 10048 PA, 2540 H, 244 HR, 2 SB, .356 wOBA, 125 wRC+, 34.4 ZR, 59.8 WAR, 48 JAWS Herman Adams, 3B Adams retires as a top-5 third baseman of all-time along with Chuck Allison, Jayden Fraile, Alonso Carvajal, and Jody Davison. Like Johnson, his game was built on doubles and strong defense. Adams was in the running for the MVP in 1977, the best year of his career with 6.2 WAR. He continued to put up 4 and 5 WAR seasons throughout his career until at age 35 he became more of a part-time player. Initial Acquisition: Drafted 5th overall in 1969 by the Mariners out of West Babylon MLB Awards: 1 Youssef Raadouni GG, 5 AS, 6 Paul Vines SS, 2 WS, 2 PMVP Career Stats: 8569 PA, 2057 H, 240 HR, 2 SB, .343 wOBA, 118 wRC+, 56.9 ZR, 57.3 WAR, 47.1 JAWS |

1990 Top 100 Prospects
The first top prospect of the new decade is shortstop Mason Bialik. He signed with the Reds on July 31st and played 31 games in their A club, amassing 1.4 WAR. He's in AA and might even be ready for the Majors this season. The top pitcher is A.J. Handel who made his debut with the Braves last season, pitching only 3 and a third innings. He is fragile and is currently out with a dead arm but hopes to make an impact in their starting rotation this year with a devastating curveball. |

1990 MLB Draft
Gabe Shannon, a switch-hitting third baseman with elite contact and defense, was drafted first overall. He won the Phoenix Amoss MVP in college twice and finished 2nd once. Salvador Feliciano was the first high school draftee. He is a speedy centerfielder who was born in Venezuela but went to high school in Oregon. The top pitcher drafted was righty Jack Sklar out of Pittsburgh. He looks to be solid across the board with a fastball, curve, and slider. |
