Cards news: Nov. 10 -- Brendan Donovan (2B) and Nolan Gorman (3B) both earn Silver Sluggers
The St. Louis Cardinals have learned that second baseman Brendan Donovan and third baseman Nolan Gorman have both been awarded National League Silver Sluggers for being the best hitters at their respective positions.
It marks the first time either has received the honor. Donovan, 28, batted .272 with 13 home runs and 64 RBIs in 142 games/133 starts. He also saw time at first base and in left field. Getting his first chance to be a full-time starter, Gorman took advantage as the 25-year-old batted .257 with 33 home runs and 44 RBIs in 147 games/144 starts. |

The St. Louis Cardinals have traded left-handed relief pitcher Jo Jo Romero along with minor-league catcher Jose Medina to the New York Mets in exchange for second baseman Boston Baro.
Romero, 29, has spent the last three seasons in St. Louis. But 2025, was by far, his worst as in 50 games he went 2-5 with three saves and a 5.31 ERA. Romero was drafted in the fourth round by the Phillies in 2016 and broke into the majors in 2020. Drafted in the eighth round by the Mets in 2023, Baro, 21, split the 2025 season between Low-A Port St. Lucie and High-A Brooklyn. In 95 games, he hit .274 with 10 home runs and 53 RBIs. Signed as a minor-league free agent in 2024, Medina, 20, split the 2025 season between a pair of rookie league teams. In 46 games/45 starts, he hit .203 with two home runs and 15 RBIs. |

The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired right-handed closer Jason Foley from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for minor league right-handed pitchers Edwin Nunez and Max Rajcic.
Foley, 30, has spent the last two seasons as the closer for Detroit, accumulating 56 saves in that span. Signed as a free agent by Detroit in 2016, he broke into the majors in 2021. In 2025, he got into 63 games going 7-6 with 28 saves and a 2.23 ERA. Over the course of his career, he has worked in 273 games, all in relief, going 14-15 with 63 saves and a 2.93 ERA. Signed as an international free agent by St. Louis in 2020, Nunez, 24, spent the 2025 season at High-A Peoria where he went 11-3 with a 2.60 ERA in 26 games/17 starts. For his career, he has gone 21-21 with 12 saves and a 5.60 ERA in 155 games/36 starts. Rajcic, also 24, was taken in the sixth round of the 2022 draft by St. Louis. He split the 2025 season between rookie-league Jupiter and low-A Palm Beach. In 17 games/20 starts, he went 2-1 with 11 saves and a 4.31 ERA. |

The St. Louis Cardinals have announced the signing of left-handed relief pitcher A.J. Minter to a one-year contract worth $2 million.
One of the better left-hander relievers over the past 10 seasons, Minter spent the 2025 campaign in Houston where in 57 games he went 4-6 with two saves and a 4.31 ERA. For his career, he played for Atlanta from 2017 to 2024, he was 28-35 with 38 saves and a 3.44 ERA in 441 games. |

The St. Louis Cardinals have announced the signing of 34-year-old left-handed reliever Hoby Milner to a one-year contract worth $1.9 million.
Milner spent split last season between Milwaukee and Minnesota where in 57 games he went 2-4 with a 3.31 ERA. Milner broke into the majors in 2017 with the Phillies. In 351 career games, he has gone 12-9 with one save and a 3.74 ERA. |

The St. Louis Cardinals have announced the signing of left-handed relief pitcher Tanner Scott to a three-year contract worth $34.5 million.
Scott, 31, will make $11.5 million person, although the 2028 season includes a team option. The left-hander spent the 2025 season in Atlanta, where he helped the Braves win a World Series. In 69 games, he went 4-3 with one save and a 2.61 ERA. A fifth-round draft pick by Baltimore in 2015, Scott broke into the majors in 2017. In 452 games, he has gone 35-27 with 56 saves and a 3.43 ERA. |

Brito, 33, spent the 2025 season with Washington where in 150 games/148 starts he hit .243 with 20 home runs and 75 RBIs. He broke into the majors in 2015 with the Diamondbacks. In 249 games/186 starts, he has hit .225 with 25 home runs and 93 RBIs. |

The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired 31-year-old outfielder Alex Call from the Washington Nationals in exchange for minor-league starting pitcher Conner Loeprich.
Looking to add a right-handed bat which can play the corner outfielder positions, Call batted .343 with three home runs and 14 RBIs in 30 games/27 starts for the Nationals last season. Call, who has spent his entire career in the Nationals' system, has played in 205 MLB games/165 starts during which he has hit .231 with 16 home runs and 65 RBIs. Signed after being released by Pittsburgh following the 2024 season, Loeprich pitched at AAA Memphis in 2025 going 4-7 with nine saves and a 5.32 ERA in 34 games/13 starts for the Redbirds. |

The St. Louis Cardinals have announced they have signed catcher Carson Kelly and outfielder Bryan De La Cruz to contract.
Kelly, 31, began his career with the Cardinals but it being during the Yadier Molina-era struggled to find playing time. He spent five seasons with the Diamondbacks after leaving following the 2019 season. Since that time, he has played with Detroit, Texas and Minnesota. In 20225, while with the Twins, he played in 25 games/23 starts during which he hit .195 with four home runs and 95 RBIs. The Cardinals are hoping Kelly can serve as the backup to starter Ivan Herrera, while also allowing them to allow prospects Leonardo Bernal and Jimmy Crooks to get consistent playing time in the minors. De La Cruz, 29, was added as outfield depth at the corner outfield positions. Last season, he played at at AAA Indianapolis hitting .302 with 19 home runs and 55 RBIs. The 2024 season saw him play for the Marlins, getting into 105 games/54 starts during which he hit .245 with 18 home runs and 51 RBIs. |
