I was going to write 5,000 words about how Andres Gimenez is my new favorite Met because he can hit, he can field, and he looks like 16 years old - all completely novel concepts on the Mets.

Then they cocked up leads of 8-2 and 10-5, though, and the funny thing is that I called it as soon as Porcello was ravaged in the fifth. Porcello might suck, but the Mets' pen is ten times worse, and now I can't give a flick anymore.

What a **** game...

Where in the world is Yoenis Cespedes?

Will MLB really start playing 3-inning tripleheaders every day, so Billy Hamilton can really shine?

This team, greatest show on dirt even if I don't pay attention to the T-Ball Jamboree.

Who trades any sort of prospect for Billy ****ing Hamilton??

Welcome to Metsland, where your GM is a royal idiot.

The Cespedes thing has me feeling queasy.

Cespedes opts out of season by word of DiComo.

And like every chapter in the Cespedes-Mets saga, this played out in the weirdest way possible; this very much includes the game against the Padres where everybody brayed that Wilmer Flores was traded for Carlos Gomez while Wilmer was on the field, weeping - the deal that fell through before the Mets went out and got Cespedes in the first place.

What a weird, weird, weird, weird franchise.

Jordan Humphreys, designated for assignment, threw 80 innings in 2017 in A ball and 2 innings in rookie ball last year.

He wasn't really a prospect

It's the best soap opera, no teams come close. The Giants have 3 beat writers and they all write the same story; I can spend 10 minutes a day keeping up with them. The Mets crank out the content, in season and out of season.

First game of the season I couldn't watch, and immediately they win? Faithless bunch!

Also, three Mets infielders down with various ailments and Soroka tore his achilles - was it raining high-explosive shells?

It's not various ailments, it's "tightness". Yet another tragic outbreak of Hamstringus Constricticus. We should organize a telethon for Tightness Awareness!

Quality dirt on the Cespedes telenovela too, Nimmo* and other reliable sources making clear some guys in the dugout/clubhouse knew he wasn't showing and told the team before The Bro made his Sgt. Schultz press statement.

*if you've never watched the (fun) OOTP 21 Mets playthrough Rich always calls him "Nemo", and I don't think it's an ironic reference to his twitter handle

See, teams can't hit like this forever, if you let them score all the runs in one game their bats will be tired and therefore unable to score in subsequent games.

I love Nimmo and I've been rooting for him to play in CF but either he slowed down over the last year or he's regressed tracking balls, he shouldn't spend so much time with his back to the camera chasing balls down.

Fun fact: this only counts as one loss.

But, good grief. I will choose not to watch any highlights.

Is talking up Matz as #2 through now? I mean, I love Matzie. He has infinite credit for the absolute riot that was his debut in '15. But he spoils in the pressure cooker. He's best used as a #5 with no expectations whatsoever.

Edit: I see Guillorme pitched a scoreless ninth? **** Sewald, put that kid in the pen!

There were no highlights, so don't feel guilty about that!

I love Matz too, and not just for that game. I'm a sucker for the locals that Fred and Jeff bring "home". I've never subscribed to all the "mentally weak" arguments, but boy were his shoulders slumpy last night, and they had a shot of him in the dugout after he departed staring at the field like a zombie. In some ways he reminds me of Jonathan Sanchez, although his pure stuff isn't as good and he's not as nutty as El Guapo. But like with Sanchez I wonder if Matz could be more effective out of the bullpen, maybe limiting his pitch selection some. I'd try it, but this year they'll have a hard enough time finding bodies to throw innings for the rest of the Jamboree.

I don't get what they see in Sewald other than his ability to convert oxygen into carbon dioxide and have a number next to his name under "IP" in the box score. If they had any of the 47,000 pitching prospects they traded over the last 5 years for utility players they might have other options next year!

Stroman opts out of season, mere nanoseconds after accruing enough service time to become a free agent this fall.

[Redacted] that guy.
That guy is awesome!

Teams do it to players all the time

Hold them down to get an extra year. Trade them just before they get 10 and 5 rights

I hope Wilpon and the other owners will see this though, so they'll know their propaganda dollars are being well spent

Gaming the system as the system is set up (both pro-player and -owner). If we're okay with one side doing it, we should be okay with the other.

But the owners' boots are much tastier than the players'. Finer leather. Not covered in dirt, chalk and grass.
