The Royals had a good start to the year with no injuries during preseason or early Spring Training with the usual call up for the 42-man roster and opportunities for individuals to learn new positions.

Major League Predictions

The Royals are predicted to take a big step back in 2045 although still predicted to be too strong for the AL Central with a 90-win season predicted. The Astros dynasty is scheduled to continue with a 112-win season 20 games better than any other team in the AL.

No Royals make the top players lists either giving plenty of fuel to the roster to prove the doubters wrong.



The Dodgers are also predicted to take a step backwards but still win their division with the Nationals expected to deliver the best record in the NL, 22 games back from the Astros.



Opening Day Lineup

The Royals will open with 14 hitters in the 27 for the first time in several seasons as only Edgar Noriega and Chris Kern won’t start at against either LHP or RHP. The main changes will see Luis Aceves take over 1B moving Gilberto Matos to the DH role while Edgar Mir will sit against LHP for Arturo Oramas, and Jorge Conujo will start in CF everyday.

One of the great months of the Stewart reign as the Royals go 24-4 after winning their only game in March as part of a 14-game winning streak.

The win against Cleveland on 17 March, 8-4, was momentous as Dan Nichols recorded the save, becoming the first player in Major League history to record 100 wins and 100 saves.

Edgar Noriega is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest American League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In April the Kansas City hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .342 average with 25 hits, 7 home runs and 22 RBIs.

25-year-old Chris Morrow sent shock waves through Major League Baseball last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the American League Player of the Week Award.

A newcomer to the league, Morrow made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .474 average, 9 hits in 19 at-bats, 4 home runs and 5 runs batted in.

Where the Kansas City Royals left fielder goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but Morrow certainly made his mark last week.

This season, Morrow has hit 8 home runs and posted a .308 batting average.

Bobby Nickelberry is on a tear! After posting a .356 average in May, the Kansas City right fielder took home the American League Batter of the Month award handed out earlier today.

He cracked 36 hits with 11 home runs and 25 RBIs and scored 20 runs. The 26-year-old also collected 6 free passes and posted a .398 on-base percentage.

This year, Nickelberry is hitting .288 with 15 home runs and 37 RBIs to his credit. He has gotten on base at a .332 clip and scored 33 runs.



One change in the pitching rotation as Ethan Chafin replaces Curt Bogans – Bogans had several solid performances but with his stamina down to 35 is now seen as an emergency starter so will pitch the rest of the season out of the bullpen.

Benton Geldart of the Northwest Arkansas Naturals outdistanced his peers on the mound this month. He fashioned a fine 3-1 won-lost mark and 0.77 ERA in 5 starts to get the Texas League Pitcher of the Month honors.

Geldart had a very impressive May, finishing with 42 strikeouts in 35 innings and holding opposing hitters to a .133 average.

To date this season, Geldart has a record of 4 wins and 3 losses and a 2.21 ERA. He has appeared in 9 games and struck out 69 in 53 innings.

The vote is in and Ismael Rivas, the 21-year-old catcher for Columbia, is the winner. Today he was honored with the Carolina League Batter of the Month award.

In May, Rivas wowed voters with a .344 average while posting 8 home runs, 19 RBIs, 21 runs scored and a .494 on-base percentage.

To date this year, Rivas is batting .304 with 12 home runs.

June's Batter of the Month has been announced by the American League. This month's trophy was presented to the Kansas City shortstop, Jadon Tezeno.

He starred by hitting .422 with a .455 on-base percentage, totaled 38 hits in 90 at-bats, 9 home runs, 24 RBIs and scored 21 runs.

This year, Tezeno is batting .321 with 79 hits and 14 home runs. He has scored 37 times and has batted in 43 runs.
The votes have been tallied and the winner of the American League Player of the Week has been named. It was awarded earlier today to Jadon Tezeno for his great week at the plate.

The Kansas City shortstop took home the trophy by banging out 10 hits in 21 at-bats for a .476 batting average, driving in 9 runs and scoring 6 times.

So far in 2045 Tezeno is batting .322 with 14 home runs, 42 RBIs and 34 runs scored. He has 73 hits in 227 at-bats and a .369 OBP.

Jadon Tezeno of the Kansas City Royals had a lot to celebrate in today's 16-11 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks after pounding a trio of home runs at Chase Field.



Ethan Chafin of the Kansas City Royals is the American League Pitcher of the Month. In June, he sparkled and shined on the mound with 4 wins and no losses in 6 starts.

Chafin checked opposing batters on 25 base hits and a .180 batting average. He rang up 45 strikeouts in 38 innings of work, surrendered 7 walks and fashioned a 2.13 ERA.

The June Pitcher of the Month has been chosen and the Texas League award went to Northwest Arkansas hurler, Julio Lucio.

During the month, Lucio was impressive with a 1.77 ERA and 4 wins and 1 loss. In 35.2 innings he struck out 41 and gave up 23 hits and 5 walks.

This year, Lucio has posted a record of 7 wins and 5 losses with a 2.64 ERA. He has appeared in 14 games and struck out 100 in 99 innings.

Jimmy Oates has made a definite impact on the baseball world by snatching Midwest League Batter of the Month honors for June.

In 23 games the Quad Cities batter hit .375 with 11 home runs, 25 RBIs and 26 runs scored.

On the year, Oates has hit .331 with 23 home runs, 54 RBIs and scored 55 runs.

When Tim Parsons takes the mound, a Columbia victory is usually the result. That was the case in June.

That's why he was voted the Carolina League Pitcher of the Month.

Parsons throttled league hitters the whole month with an impressive 3-0 mark and 0.85 ERA in 5 starts. The Fireflies star hurler also rung up 30 strikeouts in 31.2 innings.

This season, Parsons has compiled a 8-1 mark, 1.56 ERA and made 14 starts.

The Royals strong form over the first half of the season saw eight Kansas City All Stars, matching the high of 2043. Among pitchers, two starts and three bullpen arms were selected. Greg Moehring is selected for the fifth year in a row, while Jeremy Ogans earns his second selection. Dan Nichols has a ninth All Star selection, with Luis Danys Rhodes earning his fifth, and Juan Anaya his second after missing selection last year.

Among the batters, Luis Aceves and Arturo Oramas are All Star debutants, while Jadon Tezeno makes his second team, and Bobby Nickelberry his third. Edgar Mir’s struggles mean he missed out on an All Star selectin while Jorge Corujo might feel unlucky not to earn a selection.

Wrigley Field was host to the 2045 Home Run Challenge, the annual celebration of the longball. Ismael Betancur finished first in the field of eight Major League Baseball sluggers, with Chicago Cubs third baseman Ismael Betancur topping Bobby Nickelberry in the final round by a score of 20-19.

"There's no better feeling in the world than hitting a home run, so imagine how I'm feeling after my performance tonight," said Betancur.

Betancur has registered a career batting average of .303 with 1945 hits, 440 homers and 1291 RBIs.



The American League were shut out as the NL took a 3-0 victory. Luis Aceves got one of the three hits for the American League, while Bobby Nickelberry was the only other Royal to get on base, courtesy of a walk. Nichol, Moehring, and Anaya all pitched one clean inning of work but Rhodes was asked to pitch two innings and gave up 3 H, 2 R.



The Royals, unsurprisingly with their record, are happy with how their bats have played this year although will be hoping that Edgar Mir can find some form in the second half of the year. Bobby Nickelberry will have Royals HR records on his mind while rookie Jorge Corujo will be thinking the same for the SB record.



The Royals pitching corps have been exceptional, underpinned by their 5 All Stars. The starting rotation has been strong although with two LHP the two All Stars an elite RHP starter might be a nice luxury for the Royals to find. In the bullpen, the Royals back end is elite, with Joe Manley only missing out on an All Star selection because he isn’t needed too often.

Things are moving in the right direction and it looks like we have the talent to hit our preseason goal of making the playoffs. Our fans will be counting on us to push the team to get it done, so do what you have to do to make the postseason happen.

Extend your player:
I know it's hard to talk extension early with some guys, but I was hoping that Estanislau Covete would have been an exception. Keep the dialog open with him and try to get him signed as soon as you can.

Improve Staff Cohesion:
The coaching staff is working together efficiently. Let's hope it continues.

During our time working together, I have been happy with your progress towards the goals I have set out for you. Considering your current and past successes, I am very happy with your overall performance. It's important to have success on-field and in the boardroom, and you seem to be on that path.

2045 Draft

Another year, another low draft pick for the Kansas City Royals. With the 32nd pick, they selected HS OF Esmarly Roseberry. Although likely a corner rather than centerfielder, Roseberry has average speed paird with plus potential in contact and power, with an average eye.



The rest of the Royals to five picks played out with a High School tilt, and 2nd round for a HS C seemed a reach but was backed by Scouting Director Christensen.

A tough month for the Royals bats with only Estanislau Covete (147 wRC+) in his limited chances hitting much above league average for the month.



Transactions & Injuries

The Royals receive Rule 5 draft pick Juan Medina back from Brewers to add some additional infield depth although Medina struggled in the big leagues this year, with a .172 average in 336 PA.

The Royals had been looking at additional RHP rotation support in case of injury and to counter the Astros juggernaut as the end of the month approached. The trigger to commit to a trade was losing Mike Herzner for a few weeks to bicep tendinitis. The Royals moved quickly, giving up LHP David Aguilar who had been okay in the bullpen but nothing more, prospect Aguirre who’s greatest attribute was being a LH infielder, and 2038 Scouting Discovery SP Arturo Morales to the Cubs and getting HP Chris Kuehn in return. Kuehn has plus stuff, movement, and command, with a five pitch arsenal. The Royals also got the Cubs to tack on potential RP Chris Morrow into the deal. The hope is that the Royals now have options for whatever the playoffs throws at them.

The #1 pitcher this past month in the International League was Julio Lucio of the Omaha Storm Chasers. He worked the hitters over real good, finishing August with a superb 5-0 record and a 1.84 ERA.

The Storm Chasers star made 6 starts and surrendered 29 hits in 44 innings. He struck out 41 and walked 10.

This year, Lucio has gone 5-0 with an ERA of 1.76 and has 54 strikeouts in 56.1 innings.

September is its usual month of achievements as the Royals clinch the wild card on the 2nd day of the month with a 4-1 victory at Houston before moving to 100 wins for the season on the 6th, beating the Tigers 8-1 at home. The Royals reward for the second best regular season in history will be a Division Series match up against a divisional opponent, as they will face either the 102-win Detroit Tigers or old nemesis the Chicago White Sox. The Royals and Tigers have only met once in playoff history, Detroit sweeping a League Championship series 3-0 back in 1984. The Royals and White Sox, meanwhile, have been regular post season foes and this would make it seven times should they meet. The series is tied at three apiece, with the Royals taking the last three, including a sweep in the most recent match up, the 2041 Division Series.

It is a seventh post season match up as the White Sox upset the Tigers and set up a rematch of the 2041 ALDS.

The White Sox went 89-73 basing their success on the starting pitching which ranked 4th in the American League. Former Cy Young winner Josh Webb won 19 games with a 2.77 ERA and he is backed up by three more right handed pitchers, with Rob Cope and T.J. Nooks both young and developing elite arms.
