National League Batter of the Month
The Chicago Orphans may not have played as well as their devoted fans had hoped for, but no one will cast blame towards 1st baseman Jake Beckley for any lack of effort. For his efforts in July, Beckley was named the National League Batter of the Month after going 51 for 126 (.405 batting average) with 19 Doubles, 3 Triples, 24 Runs, 15 RBIs, and 3 Walks that resulted in a slash line of .405/.419/.532 which was good for a 184 OPS+ and 1.8 WAR.

National League Player of the Month
Heading into the month, there were rumors that Brooklyn Superbas pitcher Doc White might get sent down to Triple-A due to his 4-14 record and a ERA approaching 3.50 for the season. Not only did he successfully make the needed adjustment, he went 7-1 with a 1.57 ERA to receive National League Pitcher of the Month honors. This is the first time that White has received monthly honors.

MLB Standings
With one full month left in the season, the playoff race is likely locked up in the American League (Boston maintains an 11 game lead over the Tigers), while the National League race remains tight (Boston holds a 5 game lead over the Cardinals). The race for last will come down to a battle between the Chicago White Sox and the Philadelphia Phillies.

Boston Americans - July 1902 Recap
A nice month for the team as they posted a 18-11 record and maintain an 11 game lead in the American League race. The team continues to hit the ball well but just cannot seem to generate much power. The pitching staff has played well, but does have a tendency to serve up the long ball and the bullpen has been shaky at times. The team looks set up well for the playoffs.

Boston Americans -- Front Office Snapshot
The team finances remain solid, as attendance and revenue per game are up significantly, while player payroll remains very manageable. Will continue to maintain flexibility to make moves as needed.

Not the most-likely player to take home an award, but St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Herm McFarland put together a fine string of games to take home the National League Player of the Week award.
