I asked you a question about a half hour ago on another thread about random debut player quality . Don't know if you have had a chance to see it. Thanks.

Wow! The random debut works when youtake that simple step of swtting the draft to 44 rounds. Turns out that 2 of my problems playing RD are solved: first there ARE enough reasonably regular or fulk timish players to ill rosters with as some of thosr that werw getting dumped into frreeagency were actually good ones and second, since I was unawarw that my opponent were then signing rhem now my team doesn't suck.still challenging asmy 1901 Cleveland Blues are at .500 after 40 games. I set historical year to 1984 -i think i owe David Watt for that idea as well. 154 game schedule. My thanks Action Jackson.

Oh and the talent distribution in a random debut league should win Markus some type of programmer of the century award. Simply amazing. I was so worried way back when the feature was added that teams/leagues would end up loaded with super studs. Not the case at all. I think year in and year out the draft supplies just the right mix of talent.

Am I loving 1969....yes I am, yes I am. It's so great to have the offense back
What a crazy year for Bill Melton(25). Dude busts out of the gate on fire, hitting 30 home runs by the end of June. He's banging in the high .340's and is driving in runs at double the pace of everyone else in the league 65. By the end of July he has 32 home runs. There are 2 days left in August and he's sitting at 35. He's managed to keep his average though as he's hitting .341 on August 30. He has roughly 110 RBI(at work, so going on memory). Ken Griffey Jr. actually managed to catch and pass him in the RBI department.

With 17 games left to play in the 69 season, Fort Worth looks like they're set to earn a repeat trip to the Southern League championship series.. Coming off a 3 game sweep of the Corpus Christi Beach Bums the Mustangs have a 5 game cushion between themselves and Corpus and a 10 game lead over 3rd place Mobile. Fort Worth is lead by a combo of Ken Griffey Jr and Pete Rose on offense and a trio of pitchers, Frank Viola, Mike McCormick and Vern Law. Wil Myers is also having his best season so far for the Mustangs. Up to this season Myers has been rather inconsistent, looking like a star at times and a dud at others. Corpus has Bill Melton and Harry Heilmann hitting 3rd and 4th in the their lineup. Both are hitting above .340. Melton has 38 bombs and 110+ RBI. Only Ken Griffey Jr. has driven in more runs. On the hill, Jose Guzman is having a career year for the Bums. Jose leads all Southern League pitchers with 21 victories. Mobile has the trio of Kirby Puckett, Bernie Williams and a revitalized Lou Gehrig leading their offense. Van Mungo is once again having a nice year on the mound. Birmingham and Alexandria are 4th and 5th in the standings.

So we have played out the 1901-02 and 03 seasons. My Cleveland Blues have made it to second place in 1903, but face some key positions that have aging players (Chambliss at first for example, now 38). Our star is Bobby Murcer who has been hitting in the area of .320-.340 each season with between 30 and 45 homers (led the league, tied with Yaz for 1902). We sucked the first two seasons though. Best hitter so far in the league has been Turkey Mike Donley, who hit the current record of .411 in 1902. Pedro Martinez and Clayton Kershaw have ranked among the Cy Young award winners. Have to rename that thing: what if Cy Young shows up in the draft? Awkward... Anyway by not expanding automatically, the league stays (so far at least, hope this works) with the original 1901 teams - Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago Orphans, Boston Beaneaters, etc. More news to come soon. |

Looking at the screen shots for 19 looks like I have to get moving with my “experimental” RD league started in 18. I really, really hope that TigerFan’s tutorials will work in 19 because I am experimenting with variations on his great work. I am only allowing my MLB to expand according to history and then adding unaffiliated minors if and when the free agent pool grows too large, using an option where Major League clubs can purchase players. Already messed that up a few times, hope I can weed out my other mistakes before 19 March. (Probability of that is as close to zero as possible!). Must remember to create a template right after my initial league setup. By using the entire player database I am hoping that there will be at least 150 years before I runout of real players possibly more if can limit the reserve roster size to 10 or 12. The quest for my perfect game continues......

Fort Worth has now won the last two Southern League titles, making them the 3rd team to win two straight. The preseason predictions have them finishing 1st again in 1970. Will be interesting to see if they can be the first team ever to win 3 straight. Birmingham won 4 titles in 5 years early in Southern League history.
The preseason predictions have Lake Charles finishing 2nd, with 90 victories. Could this be the year they find their way into the postseason? Matt Lato's is once again predicted to be among the best pitchers in the league. What a nice surprise he's turned out to be. |

Milestone watch:
Hank Aaron is now only 5 home runs from 500 and 184 hits shy of 3000. Van Mungo is 2 wins away from winning his 250th game. |
